Its a small spot with 7 small tables with 2 chairs each, inside. Only 2 table/seats outside on the sidewalk. It gets busy in the morning. I arrived a little after 10 am and there was a line. That being said there is only one person taking care of the food order and payments. So they might forget a portion of your order- double check before you leave. Prices are reasonable. I had a plain croissant for $4 and a nice sized portion of veggie quiche for $6- all tasted good. The cakes look so good and you can order slices. They also sell small plants, but pricey. I appreciate that they use biodegradable shopping bags :) Lastly, they offer 10% discount for essential workers.
Really enjoyed nearly everything at sugar bakery & cafe. the croissant was light and flaky and the jam scone was super tasty! the bacon breakfast sandwich was a bit odd to me. the bacon seemed rubbery and the baked egg square just didn’t taste very good. so i guess you chalk it up to win some and lose some. coffee was decent as well.
The cake and coffee were delightful and the shop was very nice and cozy, 5/5 for those.I hate to dock stars from an otherwise great place but that bathroom is gnarly. At first I was charmed by by the adorable cook book pages on the wall and how nice it smelled in there. I saw the candle and then realized with horror that the ceiling wasnt supposed to be black, it was probably all soot from the candles built up over time. I started to feel the familiar tickle of my asthma being triggered and decided to get out asap. Really hoping it gets cleared up soon.
Oh Sugar! Have you ever found a place where every single time your order is perfect? And you go there for years and years, through good times and bad, before during and after long days at work, and every single time you feel valued and seen as a human being when all you are asking for is coffee and a pastry? A delicious flakey buttery baked good with a rich cup of satisfaction? This is The Good Place. Thank you Queenie and staff for taking care of us!
Cute cafe with a decent London fog. I tried 4 different cakes and they were also good. None of them held flavor though. Birthday cake was flavorless. The strawberry champagne was amazing! But the next day it was not good. The salted Caramel was pretty good but very strongly flavored. Same thing as the strawberry though, the next day it had no flavor. It was strange! I dont even remembered the final flavor of cake. Cute place decent selection but I wouldnt go out of my way for it again
I live close by, so finally decided to try this bakery. I like to bake as well. I stopped by right before closing.Today I tried their creme brûlée cake.Pros:The cake tasted like a cream brûlée. I liked the alternating cake and icing with the caramel on top. They did a good job with flavor.Cons:The cake was dry.The slice was too small in my opinion.Experience:The server was friendly. No issues there. Nothing exceptional, nothing terrible.I also felt like I cur smaller slice. Out of 2 slices, why give the smaller one? It’s closing and you can’t sell it tomorrow. To be honest that might not be the case, it is just how I felt. I left a little disappointed before even trying the cake. To me the experience and service matters as well.I’ll give them 2 more tries before making a final decision on this bakery. 1 strike, 2 more chances to go.
Top notch service! I ordered a cake from India for my sister in Seattle. The payment gateway was smooth and the website had all the relevant details. Even though I messed up the delivery instructions, the team promptly helped me out via timely email. As for the Pink Champagne cake that I had ordered, it was fresh and delicious with a mouth watering blend of raspberry! Kudos to the team!
I love the food but service lately has been terrible. I had to wait almost 5 minutes for someone to assist me. People were baking and ignoring me. There is one person to take orders and that same person fills the order with no sense or urgency, taking their sweet time making coffee. When I mentioned after 5 minutes I was still waiting I got a very rude response back, ya Ill get to you when I can. I had wait quit a few more minutes for this person to prepare my order as they do not train their employees to help customers efficiently or quickly. Hire a person to take orders and a different person to prepare orders. I love their food, I used to live in this neighborhood but the service is so poor I doubt I will come back anytime soon.
Best to call and speak to the team in person before placing a cake order online. I ordered a red velvet cake for my partner and when we served ourselves a couple slices there happened to be two layers of chocolate inside instead of the traditional white frosting. The menu doesn’t state that there is chocolate in the cake so it was disappointing to have paid 40+ dollars to not receive what I had ordered.
Good to stop by and try, though I probably wouldn’t return.Interesting selection - they had a havarti croissant and cinnamon brioche bun, curry chicken croissant sandwich (served cold). And a few interesting drink selections I didn’t try.The seats weren’t too comfortable though so I probably wouldn’t go there to work. Service was just decent. There’s water cups though!
If you order from Uber they will keep bumping you to the bottom of the list and will make walk up coffees before yours.$15 for a latte thats starbucks/mcdonalds HOT and basic reheated breakfast sandwich is not worth the wait or $.Where the standards at?
Third times a charm I wont be back because sadly their baked goods are not very good.Today I ordered a cinnamon brioche and a chocolate chip cookie. The brioche tasted stale and was hard as a rock, the cookie was about as good as a chain store bakery cookie. The time before that I ordered croissants for 3 people, each one a different flavor, all three tasted like they were made with rancid shortening.
De lish! Vegan blueberry muffin is soooo good! Had an Americano with it. Smooth and tasty.
The coffee was mediocre.Service was terrible. The lemon bread that I got wha stale, so I asked the lady if she could do anything for me, like a refund or replacement or whatever, she said “let me talk to my manager “then she went back inside, we waited out in the cold for a while, and then we saw her cleaning getting ready to close, so I proceeded to go back in and I asked her what her manager said, she said she was still waiting on her manager, and I asked if there was anything she could do, and she finally came up and said “ there’s nothing I can do”She could have easily said that from the beginning instead of just wasting my time.
Sugar Bakery & Cafe is located on a main road, so you have to either park a couple blocks away or use the pay-to-park lot around the block (next to a burger shop) and walk to it.I purchased a slice of Fudge Chocolate cake, a red velvet cupcake, and an iced coffee. The cupcake was moist with the perfect amount of icing sweetness, the fudge cake tasted dry/stale, and the iced coffee was extremely bitter. They offer a nice selection of pastries but the lack of enclosure (most items sitting out exposed) was probably the cause of staleness as well as the fruit flies I noticed hovering around the pastries.5 stars for customer service, 3 stars for the quality of baked goods, and 1 star for iced coffee.
Croissants and Jam scones are amazing. I havent even tried the cakes. The cookies taste great as well!
Was closed when we got there google maps needs updated or something I wont be back just because I dont want to waste my time again so I suggest straighten it out with google or something so next guy doesnt feel the same. I realize its a pandemic and hours change but its not hard to update them when they do
Super small spot so dont expect to hangout here. But DO expect tasty coffee from Caffe Vita (Seattle staple) as well as tasty treats. I tried the iced cinnamon brioche rolls and they were great heated up with icing that oozed out if the center. (You know that one perfect bite in the middle? These had it) friendly staff as well. Looks like they do larger cakes too for those office parties. Looked very delicious and pretty special.
OMG is the best adjective I can think of. If your looking for a sweet treat that makes time stand still, then look no further. I ordered a few things thru UberEATS and I was not disappointed. The Salted Caramel Croissant was not gooey like I might have suspected but more flakey but definitely all salted caramel. The Havarti Croissant, eh, I could do without. Dont get me wrong, its delicious. I was just looking for more cheesy. On the savory side of things, the Bacon Breakfast Sandwich is perfect. And its got a fantastic spicy kick to it. Not too much bit just right. The Bacon Chocolate Chip cookie sounded better than it was. Again, very good but nothing spectacular to write home about. Its tastes just like it looks, a chocolate chip cookie with bacon on it. And last but not least The Cinnamon Brioche! Its listed as a menu favorite for a reason. You cant order from here and not try this. Well, I suppose you can but it would feel right. Definitely recommend this place and the items even traveled well thru UberEATS under 30 minutes!
Great baked goods and coffee! Cordon Bleu chef approved!
Super warm atmosphere and delicious pastries, cookies, coffee and cake - what more could a girl ask for!!?! The kitchen is wide open and you can see all the mixers and stuff they use to make the food! The staff are all super friendly and knowledgeable about their food. They also have a neat loyalty card system where you can get a free coffee or cookie on your 8th visit. simply put it’s a wonderful place to have breakfast or lunch.
Yummy and many prices reasonable!
Worst customer service ever. I waited an hour for a breakfast sandwich I was super hungry the manager kept telling me fives mins and I didn’t end up getting food I just got my money back. Horrible experience in Seattle
We stayed at a local hotel the night of 2.16.21 which gave a 10% discount coupon for the Sugar Bakery. The next morning I was admitted to Swedish at 5:30 in the morning and my husband and I walked there together. After dropping me off on the way back to the hotel he passed by the bakery and stopped to look at the menu in the window to see if he wanted to come back later that morning. Someone in the bakery saw him and started screaming at him to leave and wouldnt listen to him in any way. Husband backed off and quickly left. Maybe my husband reminded this guy of someone, he has no idea, but just fyi, we will never go there and will assure others not to.
Super Yum. Lots of options. Get the Cinnamon Brioche warmed up amazing.
Ever since I came to Seattle this restaurant has been notorious for wait times. Im sure tha food is good, idk, I havent been able to try it. My impression of this restaurant is that they offer entirely too much variety for tha staff they have working. Save me tha covid scapegoat, this restaurant has been like this since Ive gotten to Seattle and so I know before accepting deliveries here there will be an extended delayed wait time. My advice would be too get more staff or reduce variety of menu items. I dont like coming over here.
The service was terrible. I am a disabled individual and have issues in my legs - while she was charging me, one of my legs began collapsing and I quickly grabbed a chair to prevent myself from falling. She very rudely told me I was not allowed to dine in and I explained the situation to her, to which she rolled her eyes and scuffed.
Not a fan. I got some cupcakes here and the taste isnt that good. I would suggest looking at some other place.
Some of the best croissants I have had in Seattle! The plain croissant is crisp, light and buttery but with a really nice flavor. Their ham and gruyere croissant is one of my favorites as they add what tastes as a small amount of mustard which if you are not a fan of, as I am usually not, trust me it works so well as it cuts through the richness of the croissant and the smokiness of the ham. Their blueberry danish is also excellent and well balanced!
After ordering breakfast for my family, on my way out stopped to look at the options presented on the cake shelf. Responded to an incoming call and got distracted. Within 10 seconds I got another reminder to wait for my order outside. Covi-paranoia? Simple rudeness? Idk 🤷♂️Besides that they always make you wait outside in cold for the pickup instead of making the new customers wait until the ones before them are served. The place is always on the slower side for some reason.By the way, I didnt receive my receipt in any form.I bet, if theres any response to my review whatsoever, it will be a template based one.
Great coffee, Croissant and Nanaimo bar. Close to all the medical centers, so convenient to drop in.
Not sure what happened as we had prior good experiences. Neither my friend nor I could understand anything the individual working was saying so we couldn’t ask questions about the drinks or food. While my beverage turned out good my friend noted the americano was burnt and had to toss it.
Sugar Bakery on Madison delivered a selection of pastries to me in South Seattle on very short notice for my birthday, and each one was better than the last. Im looking forward to the day Ill be able to eat there in person.
CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR HOURS. Google says they are open early on Saturday, and the door was unlocked when we arrived at 7:46; however the gentleman working was annoyed and yelled at the people who entered before us that they do not open until 8AM and rudely told us all to leave and come back in 15 minutes. The bakery smelled great, and we would have gladly waited until 8, but the man behind the counter was so rude we found somewhere else.
Small bakery with variety of breads, croissant and coffee.
The crepe cake was $9 for a slice and not good at all, I was also disappointed by the chocolate croissant which had barely any chocolate in it but the croissant part was pretty decent. It is pretty pricey even for the neighborhood. The only thing I really like from there is the creme brulee cake which comes out to $10 with tax and tip for a rather small slice. Ive waited 15 minutes to get a single muffin even though there were only 2 people in front of me as they prioritize take out orders. The espresso drinks arent worth getting unless youd like to add 5 minutes to your visit for something burnt and bitter. The drip coffee is better at the Amazon go store somehow. Ive only gone because its so close to me, and its open after all the other bakeries are closed, but honestly its not worth it. Id rather go to top pot a block away. They give you immediate service, the coffee is better, the donuts are better, and the prices are better too. This place is so popular, and after going a couple dozen times, I have no idea why and dont go anymore.
I feel so lucky to live right by this place - a bit pricey for just coffee (though its good) but they really shine with their pastries and food. SOOOO incredible. Some of the tastiest croissants, the curry chicken sandwich is so good too, I love this place! I hope to try their cakes soon.
Good coffee but go when your not hungry because the smells will have you ready to lick the walls.
Relaxing ambiance, friendly and helpful staff, and nice small curated variety of desserts (cookies, brownies, bars, macarons, hand pies, scones, cakes, cupcakes). They do have a sandwiches and coffee. But I was looking for something sweet. The lemon chiffon cake hit that spot. Portion was good for $6; buttercream was not as dense as others and not too sweet; cake was in between dry and moist and did not crumble; and the lemon flavor is just sour enough to blend well with the other components. Free wifi is a plus. I would recommend this place for a quick bite to satiate their sweet tooth.
Its a lovely cafe. The pastries are really, really good and a great late as well. Definitely worth a visit!
Awesome soup and easily the best caprese sandwich that I’ve ever had can be found here. Staff were super friendly and all wore masks correctly, and I appreciated the extra measures they took COVID-wise. Oh, and the compostable containers are nice (as opposed to the recyclable minimum set forth by the city). I will absolutely be returning soon😋
Great food and coffee but terrible service. Just be very sure what you want before you order staff are not all great at helping or explaining
The best creme brulee cake in the world
The vegan blueberry muffin keeps me a loyal customer!
The Caprice sandwich and Vegan Muffin are both really good. And vegan too.Overall the food is really good but dont expect a quick turnaround if youre in a hurry.
A dessert nook. Nice baked goods and big cake case. Yum! Cakes can be bought whole or by the piece. A place to sit and eat inside but limited space because it’s a small shop. On good weather days l saw diners eating outside with chair and table. Bus stop is close by so it’s crowded so better to take it all home....
Less once star for the execution on the lavender shortbread. It takes a light hand with that herb to strike a balance with rich, buttery shortbread; this one tasted like air freshener. The lemon crunch cookie was amazing and their other offerings looked equally tempting.Totally worth a stop!
Delicious and quick, worth a stop!
The most amazing cake ever!!!
Whether you sit inside, out or take your pastry to go, this is a wonderful neighborhood bakery. The brioche was buttery, the personal baguette perfect and the breakfast sandwich layered with veggies and cheese was wonderful. The folks just as nice. My absolute favorite surprise was the lavender soda! I had never heard of one and it was fabulous! Refreshing and memorable! Id go back to Seattle just for the Sugar Bakery and Cafe.
This place is awesome! Amazing coffee, cakes, pastries, breakfast sandwich, cupcakes, full cakes, cheddar bagels. It truly feels like the staff puts their heart into everything they do and it shows. Highly recommend.
Best croissants I’ve ever had! Flakey outside, soft and buttery inside. Pair it with their tomato basil soup and dip it. You’ll thank me 😉
Their banana pudding is out of this world. I take a bowl to parties and its always a huge hit. Cookies-- peanut butter and brown sugar-- are awesome. I love the way this place looks, feels, and everyone Ive encountered has been friendly. Only minus-- parking. Ugh.
Delicious pastries and fast service
The first time that I got to WA my friends told me that I should visit Portos and was right. AMAZING FOOD, I recommend Tres Leches, its one of my favorite dessert
Wonderful warm sandwiches—delicious —and lovely pastries!
Wow! You know the kind of place that just has a terrific buttery appetizing aroma the moment you walk in?Everything was really nicely flavored and perfect texture. The warmed brie-proscuttio sandwich had that chewy bread that really pulls on your teeth, and was rich in flavor without being over the top.The Vietnamese coffee is like this little party happening in your teacup, and was rich and smooth. The salted caramel croissant was flaky and yet substantial, and was a little too salty, but then thats the gimmick.Definitely worthwhile.
Bad s service
I come here for one thing and that is the cheese filled bread things and they never fail me. I looove them.
The cake was beautiful and delicious! Ready in time and very easy to order. Great experience!
Americano was excellent, staff was very friendly, clean bathroom. I was hoping for a few more items to select from, but they did have some gluten free options. A nice change from Starbucks. I would go here again and I recommend it to people stuck at Swedish who are looking for some comfort.
Stopped in to redeem a gift voucher I received as gift. Had a very good almond milk flat white (warm, but not hot and with a bit of sweetness). The salted caramel croissant was a bit disappointing: too sweet and dry/stale.
Great little bakery with very nice staff, the flavored croissants are flaky and delicious!
Dude, lets talk about that SALTED CARAMEL CROISSANT.So. good. Its not a croissant oozing with caramel like I initially thought, but a croissant coated with the finest layer of caramels to give it a slight crunch on the outside, without sacrificing the buttery softness of the croissant itself. Perfect mixture of salty and sweet. The bakery is pretty no frills on the inside, but their pastries are very good. My only wish is that they could offer directly to warm up pastries.
Love the jam scones🤤
The pastries here are so good. The best Ive ever had!I highly recommend stopping by.
The veggie breaksfast sandwich is so delicious and my iced vanilla latte is always perfect. Plus, discounts for healthcare workers!!
Very tasty and flavorful sweets. Staff is also very friendly and helpful. Only reason for 4 vs. 5 stars is cost. Pricey but worth it if you are trying to impress your guests or want a special treat.Have ordered several cakes and process worked very smoothly.
Amazing chocolate croissant and turkey sandwich. I enjoyed the atmosphere and service. Definitely would go again
Amazing Bakery with perfect Service.Ordered a full cake delivery on the same day with very short notice.Sugar Bakery did even modify the cake and delivered on time!In addition to the outstanding service the cake was super delicious!Keep up the good work!
Please get the jam scone. I ate it so I don’t have a picture. The strawberry jam is out of this world phenomenal and the scone is lovely; good crumble not too sweet.
Croissants and cookies were great and warmed up fast. Croissant was slightly cool Im the middle, but tasted delicious!
Definitely one of the best bakeries in town. Fun original artwork on their walls at each location. The staff has always been consistently cheerful and their enthusiasm shows in their work! The Nanaimo bars might be my favorite-paired with a cup of coffee...SO GOOD!
My refuge from the hospital during my break or when my folks are there for their stuff. Such good coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and people (last but not at all least) here. Highly recommend the jam scone, any cookie, salted caramel croissant, dirty chai, and any coffee. Stop by. They have a second location as well.
Still with good and delicious pastries for all events. Service here is superb! Everything is perfect!
Favorite bakery in Seattle, because the focus is delicious, freshly baked treats and coffee. I’m in love with the almond croissants baked only on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the jam scone is my go-to. I was also delighted they serve Vietnamese style coffee. Affordable, friendly service, delicious baked goods - all you can ask for!
Beautiful baked goods all made in house from cakes, croissants to cookies. The staff are super nice. I don’t think the prices are high for what you get. Amazing cakes and cookies. If you are looking for something special that well balanced, fresh, and well made. Look no further! Champagne cake! Great coffee.
From the fantastic welcome to the great service and then the food and coffee were excellent. Been in many many cafes and this is without doubt the best we have visited.
Really liked the pastry
It was really good when I went. That was the best red velvet cake I think I’ve ever had! I loved the icing on it. I’ve only found an icing like that once and I’ve looked for it ever since. It’s really good!
Lots of tempting pastries and good coffee. The old school music, smell of fresh pastries, bakery look and somewhat limited seating make for a great ambiance.
I love this place!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! The BEST BAKERY I LOVE THE ATMOSPHERE AND FRIENDLY SERVICE! If you havent tried you need to. The best day old cookies! This will surely become one of your favorite little holes in tge wall your own hidden gem!!!!💯🍪🍵
Really tasty chicken salad sammich. Nice staff, slow service not so much a meal cafe. The cupcakes look fantastic though.
If youre close enough to drop in here and you pass it up, you are doing yourself and your taste buds a disservice. It is ALSO worth making a dedicated trip; the croissants are the best Ive had in years. Definitely plan on sitting down to enjoy these treats!
Their cake and pastry are amazing. I dont like cakes that are too sweet, their cakes are just the right amount of sweetness =D So delicious and people are super nice too!
Delicious treats, super warm and welcoming staff. What more could you want? Came here for breakfast then returned to quench my sweet tooth after lunch. Only wish I lived closer!
Cant imagine my mornings without you!
