Hood Famous holds a special place in my heart. I used to come here all the time with my mother. Purple was her favorite color so when she discovered their ube cheesecake and lattes, she was beyond ecstatic. I no long live near enough to visit as much as Iβd like but every time Iβm in downtown Seattle I make it one of my priority stops. My most recent visit was no different than all the fantastic times Iβve dropped by and picked up a delicious treat. To my dismay, I had arrived too late for ube cheesecake, however they did have Pandan ($8.00), my second favorite. Hood is famous for the pretty purple pastry, however the Pandan is a close runner-up. The flavoring is just right. You can definitely taste Pandan but itβs not overwhelming. The cake itself is super rich. The serving size is rather small, but itβll take you a couple occasions to finish it to not upset your stomach. The creamy, smooth confection envelopes your tastebuds in a heavenly experience. Truly amazing, delicious, you cannot pass this one up.Another Hood staple is their gorgeous Ube Latte ($5.75). I like mine iced so I can admire itβs beauty. Even on a cold day, it hits the spot. Donβt be a wuss, get it with whole milk or else itβs not worth it (unless you really canβt do dairy, Iβm so sorry). Itβs hard to compare this because the taste is very unique. It wouldnβt be fair to say it tastes like something else, itβs really got itβs own flavor you just have to try to understand. If you like your coffee strong just ask for an extra shot because itβs definitely on the lighter side. One other item you have to grab are their Ube Cookies ($14.00 for a pack of 6). These will remind you of super soft and fluffy sugar cookies but better. Rich in flavor and texture, they have a longer shelf life compared to the cheesecake and other treats, so this is a great items for tourists who want to bring a little bit of Hood home.
Hood Famous is very prolific on Instagram, so we made the trek here to check it out. Hood Famous is located on the busy street outside of King Street train station. There is no seating inside or outside in August 2021. Pro tip: Park at Ujimaya for 2 hours parking free if you spend $20 at Ujimaya Japanese groceries as parking in the area can be quite difficult without a paid lot ($14 for 2 hours). The Ujimaya food court was frankly a lot more interesting and fun than this tiny cafe. Selection around 1pm was very limited, a few scattered pastries -- full drink menu of espresso / matcha drinks -- and referigerated cheesecake including Ube. The Ube cheesecake was very good and looked great - didnt have much of a strong Ube taste. The pastry was average although fresh. There is a good selection of unique gifts from the Phillipines. An okay place if you are already in the area, wasnt worth any special trip.
Great neighborhood cafe with delicious syrups and good quality espresso beans. Grab a cheesecake to go, you will not regret it. If you are there during bar hours, the calamansi sour is one of the best cocktails in Chinatown.
5/5 for food/drinks: the ube cheesecake is so unique and tastes incredible, you will not find anything else like it anywhere else in Seattle, maybe even the country.3/5 for price: understandable in that itβs obviously very high quality food, but i cannot believe that their ube cookies and cream ice cream is $14 a pint. Granted itβs addicting and delicious, but thatβs a high price to pay every time you get the craving. I can only buy for very special occasionsOverall, should definitely be tried at least once!!!
There are a lot of places that will tell you where to get coffee in Seattle that mostly end up being bigger, chain feeling, coffee shops, but this is the cant miss coffee shop. The barista, Isaac, was even able to recommend an amazing coffee shop (Carabello Coffee, Newport, KY) that i was able to visit on another trip... Knowledgeable, friendly and the best coffee in the city coming, in part, from their own farm in Costa Rica. Couldnt recommend more highly!
Hood Famous new cafe + bar is *really* nice! The staff are all wonderful and cheery! The coffee is good, the desserts so tasty, and just the right sweetness. The butter mochi waffles are delicious! Have tried the salmon and the fresh fruit both! The space is beautiful and industrial cozy, and proximity to the stadiums will make it a great possible stop before the game. (qβ’Μα΄-)Ω ΜΜβ§
One of my favorite spots in the International District. The love for Filipino food is in everything they do.
Just went for lunch and the Ube cheesecake π±in love with and the Passion Hibiscus π₯°just right! Shout out to you guys!!! Made feel like I was home in Bk,Ny in some way lol
Food 4/5Great take on asian flavoured cheese cakes. Itβs on the pricier spectrum but its delicious. Tho, i found their cakes $2 cheaper at the nearby asian supermarket.Ambiance 5/5Dont think thereβs dine in right now but the shop is really really clean and lots of other merchandise.Service 5/5Very friendly and helpful
Cute little store with a lovely cashier and the cheesecake truly is worth the trip up. The shop is on the corner, a little hidden, but the interior is super cute and comfortable. A little cramped, but hopefully their second location will be a lot better. The ube cheesecake was exactly how I imagined: smooth, sweet, and soft. It was rich and brought back memories of my childhood. Loved it here!
Loved the ube cookies, ube latte, and corned beef pandesal. I really liked the aioli and pickled onion in the corned beef pandesal. Also, the corned beef quiche was good, but I would have preferred it to be much hotter. This place is nothing short of cute with pops of Filipino flavors and decor. Loved the vibe and the menu. The customer service was also great!
Such delicious treats! I dropped in, and the person at the counter was friendly and helpful.
What a lovely and unique place. We visited twice during our visit to Seattle, we had to hit a few places on the Filipino foodie list. The Buko Pie is so incredibly good I think it might rival their famous Ube cheesecake. The coconut/buko cheesecake and longanisa quiche is also incredible. Great coffee and drinks, cool vibe, and chill folks at this cafe!
This place is to die for!! They have the best ube goodies ever
Iβm so glad I visited Hood Famous in the ID. It did not disappoint. I visited on a weekday morning around 9am and the place was quiet with a few customers. I really like the contemporary dΓ©cor mixed with Filipino touches like cookie cans above the open kitchen. I ordered the longanisa quiche, pan de sal, calamansi bar, and the buko (young coconut) pie. Everything was delicious. I especially enjoyed the pan de sal with the eggs and longanisa inside. The crust they got on the top of the bun mixed with the savory filling was an amazing combination. I also loved the buko pie β itβs one of the best pie slices Iβve ever had. The crust was savory but sweet and the coconut filling was fresh and rich. The coconut slices added a great texture and mellow sweetness. And to it off, literally, the streusel topping melted my heart, not literally. The calamansi bar was really good as well and you could definitely tell it was calamansi with its distinct flavor. I liked Hood Famousβ place in Ballard but Iβm really glad they found a great place in the ID especially since theyβre representing Filipino culture which has a long history in the ID. Iβm definitely coming back soon.
Reallyyy good. The only down side is you gotta go early otherwise you will be waiting in a line for a while!
The stuff they do with their coffee is amazing. Definitely try the coco jam coffee. Youll not regret it.
Getting an ube cheesecake fresh from the storefront is way better than getting it at Uwajimaya! My son and I loved every bite. Aside from this little spot in Chinatown having the dope vibe, they made me a dope drink to pair! I ordered an ube oatmilk latte... Been craving it ever since. Cant wait for my next Seattle visit to go back!
Coffee bar was closed by the time I got there (7pm) but got a longanisa and cheddar scone with their drip coffee from Philippines. Loved the savory scone, though the coffee was a little light for me. It was my first time trying beans from the Philippines and I left with a pleasant impression.Cozy atmosphere on a weekend evening, do drop by for their alcoholic offerings!
This place is super chill! I have been twice in two days....I got the Ube Latte with soy each time, game changer if you like Ube and coffee lol. The venue is small but offers up a three seat bar on top of decent seating for hanging out for a bit. The baked goods are also very good looking...Ive only had the Calamansi Bar, which was delicious, think lemon bar but not as sweet or sour. Calamansi is very underrated, and is a must try if you like citrus. The focus of the food, beverages and atmosphere is Filipino, and I wish that there were more Filipino restaurants/bakeries etc everywhere. It can be hard to get good Filipino food if you dont know where to look, if at all. A travesty that it isnt a more popular cuisine, but Im liking the new trendiness of it that Ive been seeing and Im hoping for a flood of quality good Filipino food to come forward!! Fingers crossed.
Delicious Latte Delicious Cheesecake Great Staff
Their food and drinks were delicious! I had an iced Ive macchiato and a longanisa and cheddar scone which I highly recommend. Of course their cheesecakes and cookies are just as delicious as always. Im a fan of their art and decorations which have nice hints of the Philippines while still being modern. They also have their own merchandise now which appear very high quality with great designs. They also hand stamp each of their cards.
This cafe and bar is so many beautiful things. As a Filipino-American in Seattle you get used to adapting to the culture around you. There are few places that are particularly meant for YOU. This is one such place. Every single detail is unapologetic in its embrace of the Filipino heritage of its owners Geo and Chera. Most all of the Filipino staples including ube, pandan, longanisa, and even corned beef are incorporated elegantly and effectively into their pastries, drinks, and food. The decor honors the historical contributions of local Filipino culture and the vein of protest and solidarity that runs through it. Geo and Chera could even be forgiven for managing all of this and missing on the execution of their food and drink, but they simply do not. Every drink, pastry, and food item I have tried in their two days of offerings has been near-perfectly executed. I love everything about this place. Chera and Geo please keep up the good work. Maraming salamat! You are a gift to our city...
I love the ube latte. Just slightly sweet. They have great covid protocols here. I love the little shop inside. And the ube cookies are delicious (I got some for myself and a friend)
Love this place- always friendly and always good food. I always get a buko pie wh. Im in the area
Amazing coffee drinks in the CID. Also, the pastries are out of this world. I will stop by here more often on my way to sporting events.
Ube ice cream is the best I have ever eaten (and I love ice cream!). The cheese cakes are also extraordinary. This place is a gem.
I got the calamansi cheesecake and an ube cookie, and they were both delicious. The cake was a good cheesecake, baked really well with a nice citrus flavor coming from the calamansi. The ube cookie was surprisingly moist and tasty. Im really looking toward to trying all the other things they make, especially the savory quiches.
This is my favorite cafe in the whole city. The coffee tastes great, the food is always amazing (even the day olds!) and the staff are so friendly. Its always a treat to stop in, for the food/drink and the company! I also really appreciate how thoughtful they have been with navigating COVID in a way thats compassionate to service workers. Cant wait to come back for a cocktail when its safe to do so!
Ever since Hood Famous has opened, it has immediately launched up to one of my favorite Cafe in the Seattle area. Incredibly comfortable always clean, and fantastic cookies and cheesecake πYesterday I stopped by, because of the International District Food Walk. Hood was one of around 30 restaurants participating in the Food Walk and they were offering Bulut (look it up), $2 Strawberry Taho. I came for the bulut and stayed for the Ube cheesecake which is scrumptious. Love this place.
Im so happy this place opened up! I work from home so I try to work at cafes every now and then just to get out of the house. The cafe is so cute!!!! I love everything about it.... the decorations, food, drinks, community.... everything. I ordered the iced ube macchiato and I had a friend who ordered some pan de sal and the longanisa quiche. All of the food was really good. The pan de sal was nice and warm, sweet, salty, and soft. I honestly ate it by itself because it didnt need anything to me but you can grab butter and jelly if youd like. You can also have a pan de sal sandwich with corned beef! The longanisa quiche was so good! It tasted light but still meaty from the longanisa. I came on opening day so it was getting pretty packed just before lunchtime. Luckily, I snagged a spot at the bar with an outlet and purse hook. Definitely adding this place to my work rotation.
Buko pie was so good it made me cry. Bless you
I saw this place in the Seattle Met magazine of my hotel room, and said Iβd give it a try since it was on every of the top best brunch places in Seattle. Just had the salmon and cream cheese on top of waffles with leek salad side. Absolutely delicious! The batter for the waffles was so tasty, and the leek salad had a beautiful light authentic Philippino style dressing. Love this place! Will definitely come back.
Delicious coffee and pastries
Amazing treats and drinks. I cant believe I came here for so long before trying the cheesecake! Its delicious as is everything else. Im pretty sure the ube cookie is a perfect cookie. Nothing else compares.
The only craft coffee in the neighborhood as far as I know. Fantastic beans, different milk varieties, heart alcohol if you want it, very interesting pastries. Only downside is limited seating but its also a limited space. Parking in the back wonderful place to visit.
Place was open late and had a really chill vibe. Ordered the Pandan cheesecake and an old fashioned. Owner was friendly talked to my friends and I about the the restaurant and their business. Very cool place. Looking forward to the launch of their small plates/bar food menu.
While walking by the Hood Famous Cafe + Bar, a sign beckoned us in. The restaurant is lovely and clean and well set up even for a busy day such as today was. We were escorted to a table within a very short time. There were several specials going on food and drinks and the staff described it all in great detail. We had some appetizers and a few drinks and will certainly return next time we are in the area.
Delicious hot drinks and lots of great artwork, swag, and goodies to go.
Always delicious. Buko pie was creamy and the crust was perfect. Cheesecakes are a great staple. You cant go wrong with any of the flavors.
100% the best latte in Seattle. You must try an Ube Latte. It is purple! And sweet! And delicious! 10/10
They did not update their schedule, so I went there with a client when they were closed. The client left and I lost out on 1.2 million dollars.
This place is legit!! Surpassed my expectations in all the right ways. Good food, good drinks and amazing atmosphere. Im blown away and will be back for sure
I love this little cafe and bar. Cocktails and desserts are friggin awesome. Super friendly staff and there are some fun retail items as well.
The Filipino desserts are great. I love how they celebrate the Filipino history of ID with the pictures they have up. The coffee drinks are similar to your typical third wave shop.
First time visiting. Baked goods are very good a d the coffee is worth a try. A good brake from the usual Starbucks fare.
Had the coconut and passion fruit cake- so good, very moist and flavorful! Also the tapioca is probably the best Ive ever had. Love the decor as well, very airy and chic
If youre looking for some pretty unique and interesting dessert, this is the place to visit in ID. I ordered the Ube and Vietnamese Coffee mini cheesecake. I prefer the Vietnamese Coffee. You can taste that wonderful coffee flavor in each bite. The taste was rich, creamy and decadent. I didnt really taste any Ube flavor in the Ube Cheesecake. I will past on it next time.
Unique fare and calming atmos. Im not sure about their other location, but the one on fifth is where I go to relax before work. Love the Longanisa Sausage and Chedder scones especially!
Hood Famous is one of my favorite places in Seattle! All of their cheesecakes are delectable, but the OG ube cheesecake is my #1. (They sold out when I took these pics!) The scone was amazing too β flaky and tasty. The cafe + bar is a great spot to chill, do some work, read a book, etc., and Iβm so happy for them to have been able to open up this 2nd location. Iβd highly recommend!
Super nice presention of food and drink. I had ube cheesecake and coconut cheesecake. Neither had the flavor of ube or coconut. 3 stars great atmosphere and presention but no flavor.
By night, an intimate wine bar with Filipino-influenced cocktails and exotic fruit cheesecakes.
Very friendly staff. The vibe is so chill and the cafe is clean. I love the fact that the cafe gives you a little bit of Philippine craftsmanship. Their treats were not UBErly sweet (in a good way). Also their Pandan Latte is a must try! I recommend you guys to go check them out!
Nice interior. The ube cheesecake does not taste much like grape and neither does the ube macchiato, but it is really, really good. I would definitely recommend the macchiato. Best one Iβve had so far.
Best cheesecake ever! Wish one was closer to where I live but maybe its good that one isnt.
The breakfast sandwich was amazing. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and tasty baked goods. Highly recommend
Its a nice, small cafe. Its supposed to be a bar too? The ube cheesecake was pretty good. Considering cheesecakes are dense, having it smaller makes it easier to finish. I had iced Americano, which I thought was okay. Ill come back here to try their other cheesecakes.
2/7/2020: Popped in for drinks and dessert. Couldnt decide so we ordered 4 cheesecakes and a pie: matcha, ube, white chocolate guava, and pandan cheesecake as well as the coconut pandan pie. So delicious!! The pandan cocktail was really yummy as well. A bit sweet but nice.
Calamansi sour cocktail was the right amount of sweet and tart. Fantastic drinks.
Pro tip: the door on the β¬ οΈ is the way in. I had an amazing slice of longasina (funky pork) quiche and a coffee. They have beer during the day and the spot turns into a bar in the evening, like really late. No 2pm happy hour here!? Coffee was ok (fulcrum), service was a little overwhelmed with the lunchtime rush of ravenous ube cheesecake fans (who isnt?) but made up for that with ace customer service.
I got a Matcha Cheesecake, Ube cookie and the Iced Ube Macchiato. The Macchiato was good, I didnt taste too much of the Ube. I drink coffee once in awhile, typically not a huge coffee drinker but I actually enjoyed it!The Ube cookie was delicious.I wish they had the Ube Cheesecake... But the matcha was pretty good still :)
The photos around the cafe are historical photos of store fronts in the International District that were Filipino owned. They are helping keep Filipino American history alive other than just serving delicious coffee and pastries.
We had heard of Hood Famous Bakery and wanted to try it. Christmas was in a few days and we thought the mini cheesecakes would be the perfect dessert after Christmas dinner. My dad is getting older and he is trying to incorporate less sugar into his diet. Since Hood Famous Bakery is a Filipino bakery, I imagined that the bakery would use a bit less sugar, like many other Asian bakeries. I called a few days before we were going to the bakery to check their hours, since it would be the week of Christmas. Customer service at this location varies, depending on who is working that day. The lady I spoke to on the phone Friday morning was very friendly and helpful in answering my questions about the availability of the cheesecakes and the pricing; she also assured me that the cafΓ© would be open at 8 AM and that there would be a good variety of cheesecakes available. This ladyβs friendliness and enthusiasm made me excited to visit the cafΓ©; a part of any eatery is the experience. However, the lady behind on the counter the following Monday morning was less enthused. Perhaps I offended her by showing up at the door at 7:59 AM, and clearly, it was my sole decision to schedule her to work the morning shift on the Monday before the holiday. After she unlocked the doors, I approached the counter, where she couldnβt be less interested, and more inconvenienced to help me purchase $30.00 worth of cheesecake. Letβs put that into perspective-- $30.00 for five mini cheesecakes. In the big picture, the cheesecakes are not that expensive; however, her attitude displayed her lack of appreciation for our business, or future business. She most likely forgot that she works at Hood Famous CafΓ© and Bar, not Cupcake Royale.I chose a variety: the signature Ube, Matcha Green Tea, Vietnamese Coffee, and two Calamansi Mango (my parents enjoy mango). Since it was the holidays, I inquired if there was a decorative box available, because we were bringing the cheesecakes to my parentsβ house for dinner. Unenthusiastically, she said no. I was a bit surprised, and a little embarrassed that I had to take these desserts to my parentsβ house in one of those rectangular take-out boxes. Once she managed to muster the energy to pack my cheesecakes, she rung me up. I had to ask her for a receipt, in which she sighed in exasperation over the trouble of printing a receipt.Ube: I agreed with many of the other reviewsβthe Ube wasnβt very flavorful. I expected this cheesecake to stand out, since it is the signature cheesecake. Although it is a beautiful purple color, the Ube cheesecake is not worth another try.Matcha Green Tea: the Matcha Green Tea was okay. I expected the cheesecake would have that earthiness from the matcha, but the matcha flavor wasnβt pronounced enough.Vietnamese Coffee: this was a favorite among all the guests. The coffee hits your tongue instantly, as it should; the coffee flavor was smooth, and not overly bold for a dessert.Calamansi Mango: this was another favorite among all the guests. There was a nice balance of sweetness and tartness from the mango and calamansi citrus, respectively.Overall: what we liked was that the cheesecakes were not overly sweet. I also agreed with other reviews which said the cheesecakes were dense. I was glad that we chose to cut each cheesecake into fourths to create a βsamplerβ platter for everyone to try. I would find it difficult for one person to eat an entire mini cheesecake, because they are so dense. I do wish that there was a deeper flavor in some of the cheesecakes, and that they were lighter. It is likely that we would return. Hopefully without any zombies behind the counter.
Very good Cookie. A little pricey and small but good.
Really good Ive cookies. Coffee not so much.
Can I just come here every day for coffee and cheesecake? Heaven.
