I dont get it. I mean, I am not a fan of donuts anyway so I cant really judge if $4.4 is pricey for a cream filled donut, although I definitely did not magically fall in love with donuts after tasting it. On the other hand, I have toured a few dozens of coffee shops in Seattle and the $5.25 (after-tax/pre-tip) 8oz latte is the most expensive coffee I had. Its a good one, but overpriced. This place is absolutely cute, if thats your thing, just ignore me. For me, I think cuteness is a plus, not a reason for price premium.
I kept seeing amazing reviews for these donuts, so I decided I had to try it one day after I got off work early around the area. The store itself is beautiful and the finishing is top notch. I decided to go with the classic vanilla custard, as it was my first time trying it. I was very impressed with the taste of the donut. It was a little pricey for what it was, but that is to be expected in a boutique donut place. You can sit and eat inside and work all day and get coffee and that sort of thing, but I did take out and walked home.
Would give it 5 stars but servers super were rude. Doughnuts were delicious though! But prob won’t be coming back
Best donuts I ever had. I tried it from the store in Amazon spheres and was mind blown. So full of flavor and the right amount of sugar, salt and fat.
Its hard to describe the doughnuts here. They are simply sublime. Not too sweet, perfectly baked, original and weird flavors. Give them a try. You wont regret it.
Visited on Labor day. Good donuts, but not good service unfortunately. The staff at the counter did not say, hi, thank you, or anything, and just answered one question I asked. From her attitude, I almost felt like I was bothering her. Probably not going back.
I love this coffee shop. Their donuts are delicious (chocolate marshmallow is my favorite) and their vanilla lattes actually taste like coffee. Highly recommend this place!
Legit doughnuts; totally live up to the hype. So light and airy and totally balanced —not too sweet or cloying at all. I could easily eat a half-dozen by myself.
Go early in the morning if you can. The smell of yeasty goodness of fresh donuts will make your day. Variety, exotic, fancy…. None of that here. Perfectly crafted filled donuts is what you get. And the seasonal filling options keep it interesting enough.Damn I want a donut now.
I had the Lemon Curd and the Huckleberry and Cream filled donuts. They weren’t for me personally, although I liked the donut batter they used. Overall just too sweet and too much filling for me.Worth a stop for sure if it’s your thing.
$23 for five donuts the the server roughly crammed into a box that was to small. If youre going to charge $5 a donut, the donuts should be great (far from it) and dont smash them! Dont fall for the hype on this place.
I am a big fan of this place since I first tried it at the Amazon Spheres.Today, I went to the Capitol Hill location and got two vanilla, 1 strawberry, and 1 coconut.Surprisingly, the vanilla filled had a strong Corn flavor and me and my hubby got so confused...Strawberry one was really good. I love their lemon custard but they didnt have it today.
Favorite doughnuts in Seattle but at 5$ each just getting too expensive to get them regularly (they used to be 3.75$ 2 yrs ago, other high end doughnut stores are still 0.5-1$ cheaper today)… I hope you guys still have enough customers in the long run
One of my favorite spots to stop for a treat and a coffee. The cafe is adorable and the donuts are always excellent.
Amazing doughnuts and coffee! Highly recommend.I prefer the ones filled with cream rather than jam/fruits, so I would recommend those!
Amazing donuts. A little pricey but tasted way better than an average donut.
Decent donuts but not worth $4 each. Imagine paying almost 9 bucks for two Donuts. I know inflation is bad these days but come on.
These were certainly the best donuts I’ve had in Seattle, and maybe the best donuts I’ve ever tasted. I love that they have classic and seasonal flavors. I had a feeling this shop would have great donuts because they only sell one food item so they must do it really well.
Toothsome and buttery (an excellent mouthfeel) these are just a few of the words that I use to describe these donuts. I would recommend the americano (it’s on the secret menu).
General Porpoise has some pretty great doughnuts. They’re all stuffed with different delicious fillings, and the seasonal ones are always amazing!
After many years of avoiding the hype, mostly because I thought I hated donuts and especially filled donuts, I tried General Porpoise donuts. OMG I cannot believe I went 6 years NOT eating these donuts everyday of my life. Now I go at least once a week for a delicious treat. My favorite standard is the lemon curd, which lucky for me, tends to be the one that is leftover if you dont get there before the majority sells out (11am-1pm depending on if its a sunny day or not).Aside from donuts, their coffee is great and I love their seasonal lattes. My partner even bought us a cute tote. Anyways, try it out, you wont be disappointed.
Donuts were nothing special and overpriced
I came for the donuts. They are very rich and strong with flavor inside. You either really like them or you dont at all. I would come back to test out more flavors, but they are kinda too rich for me.Make sure to come early or order ahead otherwise they will run out.
Great donuts and lovely chai. Glad I ran into this place for breakfast during my stay in Seattle. I had the Pear Jam donut (limited time version/seasonal), which I must say was different, delightful, and the perfect balance of sugary and sweet. It is a small and quaint shop with a limited selection of donuts. Just know, they are all Wonderful! You cant miss with a donut and coffee here.
Delicious donuts and lovely staff! I’ve been going here for few years now. They have the best donuts in Seattle
The lavender honey latte is amazing!!! Highly recommended 👌
The place is super cute. We got strawberry rhubarb, lemon curd, and vanilla and they were okay. I would have gone back but the day that me and my boyfriend went their service was terrible, so that’s a big no.
Love the coffee. I dont care for the donuts tho. They are well done with a great ratio of custard to donut. However for me the donuts are too soft and Im not a huge fan of filled donuts anyway. Well executed, just not a match. :)
Matcha latte with a their limited strawberry shake creme filled donuts. You cant go wrong. The coffee is good and the wait is never long. They move people through. One of my staples when Im on the hill
Clean environment, staff was not too friendly compared to other donut shops like Mighty O’s.Donuts are overpriced for the taste in my opinion. I had the chocolate and vanilla, the vanilla had better flavor than the chocolate.Got a soy mocha- it was great!!! Not too sweet nor too bitter. Wish they offered a larger size.
Excellent, really excellent filled donuts. Also has locally roasted pour over coffee and espresso drinks.
Good balanced donuts. But not the best I had in Seattle, and pretty spendy.
I have never liked donuts until Ive had general porpoise and lucky donuts in Vancouver. GP predominantly serves raised filled donuts. The donuts are incredibly light and the magic is in their ever seasonal, spark joy, fresh fillings. Lemon curd is always solid. Today I got banana cream. Yum yum yum.
The donuts were good and the service and atmosphere was excellent! Would come back here!
Small place, but the decor is beautiful and homey. Go early to ensure that you get some donuts, but we went after brunch on the weekend and were fine. The donut itself is fairly basic, but the filling is what makes the donut. Its not too sweet and they have a couple different flavors; all of which are great. For the pricing, I wouldnt go everyday, but its a nice treat every once in a while.
I dont even know what general p is
Went for donuts but they were sold out. My girlfriend got a coffee but it didnt taste great at all, also quite expensive. Very chic place though, loving their colors!
Clever flavor combinations, fantastic coffee, great branding and ambiance. Donuts are not your average. They are high-quality and really well made.
Great doughnuts, the server was rude though. Would be 5 stars if service was better. Just negative vibes all around from her....
This place is a little hole in the wall and you would miss it if you blinked, but dont. Youll totally miss out! These are some of the most incredible doughnuts! You must try the vanilla custard doughnuts. They are my favorite and are simply amazing. ...and good coffee too. I was skeptical, but I was really impressed with General Porpoise Doughnuts. I highly recommend this place to anyone in Seattle that wants really good gormet doughnuts.
Delightful store with soft doughnuts with tasty fillings. The chocolate doughnut and lemon doughnut were tasty. Iced mocha with oat milk really hit the spot too! Love the mascot
The lemon curd was too sweet. Vanilla and Jam were okay. Nothing too great.
Ive had plenty of good fancy $4 donuts before. These arent them. Very disappointing.I like sour, but the lemon curd honestly tasted like it was starting to turn.
Yammy! These donuts are not too sweet or oily and very fresh! Best donuts I have tried in 7 years. They taste like famous european donut Berliner, I love it 😊 Great coffee too! Will be back for sure
These donuts are freaking perfection. I cant begin to describe how much I love them. Theyre a little expensive and definitely decadent so they are what I call special occasion only donuts. The lemon curd are my favorite but the vanilla custard come in close second and they always have a cool specialty donut going too. All in all, I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Check it out; you wont regret it
LITERALLY the best donut Ive ever had - I had a custard one, and I have to say that it was the PERFECT ratio of custard to dough. Not one bite felt like it was too much custard, or too much dough, and the custard itself was light and airy and never felt overpowering. I could literally go on about this forever, it was so freaking good wow. This is THE place for donuts in Seattle.
While the donuts are delicious, the manager Ashley at this location (and she made sure and mentioned MULTIPLE times that she was the manager) informed me that while customer are required to wear masks, the employees only need to wear masks if there are customers in the store. While on the surface this sounds like an ok policy, I was a little concerned that Ash wasnt wearing a mask around both donuts and cups... you know, all the things that are passed to the customers. I pointed out that that their policy is not only confusing, but also a bit dangerous seeing that it does a good job protecting the employees but not the customers. She informed me that it is their responsibility to protect their employees but NOT their customers. um, wow. She also tried to make the point that wearing a mask all day is hard and that shes not going to leave the food area to take a sip of water or drink coffee. Im not sure if this is General Porpoise philosophy, or just hers but it concerned me either way. It would probably be in their best interest to at least pretend to care about their customers health and well being.
I literally have dreams of these doughnuts. They are so soft and chewy, not too sweet. The original cream is my favorite. However, I like to venture out and try some of the new flavors. They sell out so dont wait if you have a craving. I did that once and got there at 2 and they were sold out. I ended up coming back the next day at 9am to get my fix. Wash it down with a cup of espresso 🍩☕👌
This would be a great place to buy one doughnut and an espresso to write your novel. And then sit enjoying the Italian inspired ambiance and view of the courtyard - when COVID ends in a year. Not the place to buy a dozen doughnuts for the kiddos. Limited selection of only filled sugar sprinkled - no glazed. Not Voodoo. Not even Krispy Kreme. Too expensive.
Most flavorful donuts on the Hill!
Best traditional doughnuts with the best fillings.
Great coffee, great donuts. The baristas clearly know what theyre doing
