Fantastic experience from this shop! Had multiple points of customer service contact with them throughout the week and they were super helpful at every stage.I couldn’t find any shops that were carrying hard shell travel cases. I called echelon and they were super helpful with locating what they had in stock, and also asking if I’d it to be set aside for me to come for it another day. Then I came into shop a few days later, super helpful with getting me the case and letting me check it out. Helped figure out if it was what I needed and if it would fit my bike. I believed I was helped by a new employee named Adam, I may be wrong, it was his first day. They trained him excellently though, because he was super knowledgeable about everything in stock and answering any additional questions I had about other parts I was looking for. Chatted with a few other employees casually and they also were super knowledgeable about all things bike, but also just extremely friendly. Really had that community bike shop feel.Lastly spoke with Curtis, one of the managers, about item pricing and he was super reasonable and respectful as well.Overall I had such an excellent experience with this shop, I left a happy customer with the hard case I was looking for and a few other items. Their customer service is excellent and their bike knowledge is extensive. Other customers also seemed extremely well attended and had all their questions answered. I definitely recommend this shop!
After paying a $100 deposit and waiting a week, I was told to come in to try the shoes theyd ordered in a few different sizes for me. When I came in, there was only one pair and it was too small. Theyd decided to reduce the ordered pairs without communicating it to me and wasting an hour of my day.
I needed a bike case today to take my bike across the country. I came in one month ago, gave them my card info, ID info and reserved one. I literally also called this morning and they confirmed that yes, one case was indeed set aside for me.I then show up literally 2 hours later and they have no idea about my reservation. They have no more cases. They claimed that they tried to call me a few weeks earlier to confirm card payment but I have absolutely no calls from them, or voicemails or emails.Absolutely terrible experience that puts me in a last minute pickle where I need to now go and find a bike case otherwise my entire upcoming trip is ruined.I would not recommend trusting these guys for anything.
Ended up being an official roadtrip to pick a bicycle and the experience dealing with Curtis was quite a wonderfully amazing experience.Spoke to Curtis and ordered the bicycle via phone the day before. The bike was all assembled and ready to go when we showed up to pick it up. Hats off to Curtis for making this transaction seamless.Definitely looking to order my next bicycle through this shop again.
Great mechanics, especially Sasha! Thanks for the great work and just bringing smiles to people’s faces :)
I came today for help for my chain that got stuck while I was at the park today. I was unable to pedal forward. They were walking distance and they were big help for me. Thank you again for your help!
When considering whether to purchase the Echelon EX-4S stationery bike be warned that should you have any problems Echelon’s customer service is appallingly bad. I have recently developed a problem that makes it impossible to use their “ scenic routes” feature on their Screen. It’s a good feature when it works. Mine doesn’t and my interactions with Echelon have resulted in well-meaning “live chat “ threads and no solutions that are intelligible. Phone calls promised and never received. I’d think twice now about buying one.
The best shop. Bought my folding bike there during early COVID. Got a flat today. Stopped in and 25 minutes later on my way!!!!
Had a bike fitting down today with Curtis. Don’t waste your time and $ going anywhere else. They are extremely professional and know what They are doing. I ride the peloton religiously and happened to run into the John Foley while I was there for the fitting. If it’s good enough for John it’s good enough for me !!
Need to make the webpage EASY to understand. Not everything on the page is in stock. Make sure to hit the IN STOCK BUTTON otherwise you’ll show up for nothing
I like supporting local shops, and probably will continue. Make sure you get a receipt and ask questions on your service.I had a flat on my ebike front wheel and it was quickly and readily replaced here…thank you. Unfortunately, two small ride days later, I had a flat again without hitting anything. Not fun.. Turns out the OEM 20x2.4 tube was replaced with a 20x2 tube which was not adequate for the bike. They should have at least indicated the discrepancy.Real bummer
Daniel was absolutely fantastic. I needed help with my Colnago frame and this shop was a god send! Keep up the great work!
Great bike shop right on 8th ave. Its so convenient for me.
Echelon has been my favorite cycling store. The friendliness-knowledge of the employees and owner(s) stands out. I have been assisted several times by Adam, he is wonderful, kind and professional...a great addition to the awesome team. There is no better place to have your bicycle serviced or get a new one hands down ! THANK-YOU ADAM, JORGE AND ECHELON.
The most professional bike shop I have ever dealt with in my 30 plus years of cycling. Danny and Curtis took so much time helping me with my purchase and fitting my new bike. I drove 400 miles to this shop for my purchase if that tells you something and will do it again. The whole Echelon team is A+ thanks guys Love My Wilier !!!
Great bike shop. Me and my daughter come all the way from Brooklyn just to get their service. Curtis is great.
I’m in the market for a used road bike, they explained that they only sell new bikes but that they were happy to help me avoid any lemons on Craigslist, OfferUp, etc. I’ll definitely be bringing my bike to them for tune ups and if in the market for a new bike will only be shopping at Echelon.
Super wonderful experience renting a bike here!! I highly recommend. The employees and owners were running like we were all in a race.. no customers were in a rush but they held themselves to that standard!!I forgot my ID and Card in the store all day and they had it for me,, no problems!!I also popped my front tire,, I walked in and they switched out the tire in under 3minutes without question!!Super nice experience here!! Nice people,, everything works out here!!I paid 40$ a day for a bike I kept for 3 days with a helmet and lock included.Thank you Echelon Cycles!!
Today was the 4th time I’ve come here and the team continues to help me out of tight spots. Definitely well worth the money spent. I’ll admit the staff can be a bit cheeky sometimes, but they’re generally knowledgeable and helpful enough to make up for it. Also, what am I expecting, this is New York, not Nashville 😂Haven’t needed any major repairs or tune ups yet. If I’m still in downtown NYC when that day comes, I’ll be going to Echelon.
When you walk into the average bike shop nowadays youre greeted with a why are you bothering me attitude from someone who is often aggravated you are wasting their time at all. I needed a suspension fork pumped up. One said they couldnt turn on the compressor since it was 30 minutes to closing, another said no since I modified it with a motor, and two others said they did not have a fork pump. Curtis bike tech pumped it up with the tools that they have because theyre a REAL bike shop.I needed brakes bled & they did it, in a half hour, for a rate 25% less than anyone else in the city. They pointed out other issues and addressed them at no extra cost, and with none of the standard fare hipster holier-than-thou attitude. Theyre actually happy youre here!I paid double the asking rate. I suggest you do as well: for a Manhattan business with this level of service, they genuinely are *too* cheap.Curtis team is above the fray.
I like how they offer advice on bike care and riding. I feel like they really do care about helping people become better bike riders
The people in this store were GREAT. I needed a bikepost shim for my Sondors EBike. They didnt carry the one that will fit my bike. So they made one that fit perfect! Thank You So Much.
I was very happy with my experience at Echelon Cycles - my closest bike shop didn’t have want I needed so I gave Echelon a call. They had what I wanted, and for a really competitive price.Super friendly guys, welcoming atmosphere (which isn’t always the case with NY bike shops..). I’ve found my new go to bike shop, for sure!
I went to this shop last year I had built my bike myself I took it in for them to just do the gears on my bike but they told me that I built the bike wrong and that they had to take it apart and do it all over again so I told go ahead when I received my bike just a week later my gears stopped functioning properly and a pedal fell off I almost died I called the shop to tell them my problem and they told there was nothing they can do and that it is my fault never going back to this place again
Very knowledgeable. No sales pressure. Great range of brands so you get honest guidance.
Stopped by for a quick flat fix and was thrilled to have stumbled upon this shop. The staff (who was understandably very overwhelmed due to the spike in people riding bikes during quarantine) was very helpful and efficient considering the number of people they were serving. Not to mention the incredible bikes and gear they had in stock. Will be back for my next bike purchase.
The reviews made me wary. Seems one’s experience will depend on the customer service.Bought a Focus Cayo, my first road bike. Patrick spent quality time with me to teach me the nuances. He was committed to sell me a bike that worked with my budget and experience. Appreciate the time he gave me.
It’s such a hit or miss. Echelon is my neighborhood bike shop, and while I’d love to continue being a regular patron, it seems like there’s a certain employee who really prioritizes making newbies feel ignorant when asking simple questions. It’s happened a couple times now over the last couple years and, at this point, if I see the employee there, I tend to avoid the place. Wishing them the best nonetheless with their business, especially now.
Bought a bike from here when I lived in Manhattan. Would not do it again. The service staff is excellent, but the folks working in the shop arent welcoming or friendly. After buying a bike from somewhere, you should want to go visit and hang out in the shop, not dread it at all costs. Also their communication isnt good, they dont follow up via phone or email when they say they will.
6/13/2020 - Brought my bike over for a quick safety check and as needed tune up/parts replacement. Was told they wouldn’t service my bike because I had bought it online and not from their shop.Wouldn’t recommend coming here if you haven’t bought your bike here.
Louis rossmann rated this place, in the ipo video
After 3 weeks in the shop, an $85 assessment and tune up on a bike that had been dormant for several years - I arrived to find that nothing had been done to the bike.Tires were rotten, brakes were shot, mud flaps had not been removed as requested. The owners were quick to take my CC for the $85 and sell me a lock. Luckily one of the sales men suggested I replace the rotten tires - after paying I road around the block and the brakes were not functioningNEVER NEVER put your bike and your life in the hands of this crew!
Never leave reviews, but this for sure seems a review. I was quoted a price went way beyond price. That’s fine. I waited 2 months to complete bike and then when the bike is completed it’s falling apart. My seat and my handle bars went rogue leading to a face plant. That is what I’m mad at. The fact that the price went up and I waited for two months only for a half done job. This is unacceptable.
Whether youre a serious cyclist or not, this place is the best. Fantastic selection of bikes and clothes. Get there on a particular day when a race is going on tv and hangout and chat. Great and friendly staff. Hope my next bike is from there!
Excellent service from start to finish. I called ahead of time to make sure the part I needed was available and within 10 minutes my bike was up and running. The staff member behind the counter was very knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks Echelon Cycles.
Excellent bicycle store
I used this shop for several things, including bike repair pre-quarantine. They did an adequate job, pricey and customer service could always use a bit of work. Things have gotten worse lately. Wait times are up at many city bike shops so these skills have become more important. Understandably, customers are supposed to wait outside now. Unlike other bike shops Ive seen, these guys cant be bothered implementing a control system. Some people wait patiently, others lose it after a few minutes. Instead of having a store rep invite people in, those that choose to cut a line just walk in. Its easy enough to put a rope on the door and greet people there. But no. On a recent visit I waited for 15 mins outside when several people barged in ahead of me. I followed and got yelled at. Sales rep was rude and refused to listen or accommodate. They are bad at limiting the number of people at their small shop as well. On the same visit the shop was crowded with a dozen people bumping inside a crammed space. These guys have no idea how to mange their shop with limited capacity and their customer service seemed to decline.
Mr Gino was extremely helpful, shop has a wide selection of good quality products and Gino guided me through my purchase. Definitely recommended and great service, thank you so much.
They had a rare size tire in stock..saved the day. I had called around and they were the only bike shop that had it, and they took less than 20mins even with other repairs going on. Professional pleasant employees. I’ll definitely be going back with all my repair needs. Thank you for helping me get back on the street;)
I go out of my way to come here. Always friendly, give good advice and pricing seems fair.
I just took my bike in with a squeaky part to my front casing. they could have charged me $60 to replace, but instead they cleaned it, tightened it and refused to charge me. In the spirit of what is happening in the world today ( April 2020), they just earned a customer for life. please visit them....
Happy with my experience here and have been back twice for additional work on my Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter M365. They are fair and happy to explain their repair fees. I dropped by scooter off at 6:45pm on Monday and the front flat tire was fixed by noon the next day.
Quick service. Modern selection of parts.
First of all, I would like to point out that this is my first Yelp review. In the past, I never felt the need to judge the quality of any stores service, because it was always adequate or better and I understand that people have off days. However, I just felt the need to post something as someone who has worked in the service industry in the past.I bought some quality panniers from Echelon recently ($150). Unfortunately, all the employees were blasé about the entire sale. They had zero motivation to help or assist. They also didnt know the price until I pulled out the price tag from the bottom of the bag (they originally quoted a price $40 dollars more than the actual price). They complained about back problems when I inquired about a bag behind the counter and he had to get up from his seat. When I by-mistakenly dropped a water-proof/durable bag 1 foot on the ground he said, Why are you throwing things around? in an very unfriendly (serious) manner - it was honestly a slip of my hand and I apologized immediately. I ended up purchasing the bags but I would not go back for anything else.If you are looking for a friendly and helpful demeanor without judgment, I would search elsewhere. If you want to go and pick up something quickly without conversing with an employee, then this is a fine place.
Called the shop and asked at what time they closed. When I asked the person’s name the answer was “I’m a busy guy!!”.Amazing customer service.
I think this is one of the only bike shops left where the workers actually have a personality. They are fun playful people, and they are also very informative and get work done. Not a place for the up-tight types.Ive gotten service done here. Ive bought parts here. Ive bought a bike here. And I will continue to do so.5 stars.
My first time in the store I had a great experience got everything I needed. Second time was so so, not sure what to make of the owner.
Been here a few times for various needs, always really great friendly and knowledgeable service!
I walked in for a quick repair for one of my brake levers and the guy behind the counter was super helpful! He even offered to only sell me the one brake lever because I told him I was on a budget. Was in and out in under an hour (just as promised). Would highly recommend to any cyclist.
This is hands down the best cycle shop in NYC. Ive been to ~10 while shopping for my bike, in comparison to other shops, youre really getting a bunch of people loving bike loving folks answering your questions. I wish I had bought my bike here rather than another shop on ~7ave/19th this shop is way better than that.
Im a bit late to the party with my review of Echelon Cycles. Aside from an unfortunate online order mistake when I placed the order for my Bianchi Oltre XR3, I was pleased with my experience. Ive taken extremely good care of my bicycle and it has brought me a long way since July of 2019. If I lived in Manhattan, Id return more often.Im very glad that this shop supports Bianchi and is an authorized dealer. Moreover, they support Wiler and Pinarello to my knowledge. I admire a bike store whose roots are in European bicycles. Chapeau !
A great bike shop whether youre buying a bike, servicing one or just looking around. The staff are all very knowledgeable, and in some cases hard core bikers, so they know their stuff. I would definitely recommend at least checking out what they have to offer.
Fix my wheel great price and fast service. Do not smoke in front then you will get yelled at. Will be going back
I was charged $5 a day on storage because I didnt pick up my bike on time after a service. When I reminded Pablo, the owner that I had been a loyal customer for years, his response was: business is good, I dont need you as client. Boom. This is the mindset, folks. Take your business elsewhere.Full disclosure: Yes, I know I was late. Mechanic and other crew, all great.
Ask for Danny and Curtis they are the best
The one star is for the one employee who had to cover for his boss, Danny, or else Id say zero stars. Danny (who I believe to be the owner) was rude, arrogant, and a displeasure to be around... On top of that the place is over priced and nothing special. I was happy to take my business somewhere else.Edit to respond to comment: Danny, I am not a liar. Your comment proves your arrogance. If you listened to anything I said, I was offering to give your employees a useful gift for free, while I was browsing in your shop. Instead you ignored me the moment I began to speak, while storming off like a child throwing a tantrum. I am not at all in sales and was not in your store to sell anything. Thank you for validating my initial review with your response!
Ive been in here a couple of times: once for repairs, once to get a new helmet. Both times the folks here were very helpful. With the repairs, they were able to immediately assess what needed to be done and give me a timeframe in which the repairs would be completed. They got the work done on time and followed up with me to let me know that my bike was available. And on top of that, their prices are quite reasonable. Ill certainly be coming back here for future cycling needs.
I spoke with the owner via telephone concerning the bike of my interest. Within 24 hours, he called back with all the information I needed. Immediately upon entering the store, a salesmen and both owners assisted with my purchase. Considerable time was taken sizing me with the right cycle, and I was allowed to ride several bicycles before making my final decision to purchase a mountain bike. The service was excellent, appeal was great, and all three salesmen took ample time in explaining the features of my chosen cycle before and after purchasing it. Ive been to several high end bike shops throughout the metropolitan area, and believe me, no assumptions were made at Echelon after entering the place of business. Several of my friends intend to buy cycles too! I will highly recommend Echelon before any other shop.
Great service and very helpful
Ive been there 3 times (for a new brake cable, a new gear shift cable and a quick cable adjustment) and each time they took my bike right away and fixed it on the spot. I highly recommend!
Very efficient, not at all pushy, knowledgeable staff. They are also very patient being that I had my 8 year old and three old daughters running around their shop (sorry about that guys). They assembled my Rad mini folding electric fat bike that I purchased online right out of the box. In under 2 hours the bike was ready to roll with no problems. And you can not like a guy with both a Autobot and a Decepticon tattoo.
I don’t know how some people can complain about the great staff here. We are tourists from Cleveland. We’ve been here four times in four years and they’ve been great. Especially the guy from Argentina, Who I keep saying he is from Brazil.
I bought my bike here years ago after seeing it in the window and being smitten.Mostly now I stop by to refill the air in the tires. However, Echelon has been crucial in keeping it running smoothly via tune-ups, repairs and accessories. My experiences at the store have been nothing but comfortable and honest - never as if they were trying to sell you something you dont need. And the repairs have been quick and flawless. The staff is friendly, funny and super cool/nice. Cant recommend this place highly enough. Theyre an essential part of the neighborhood and all-around great business.
Timely service, thorough repairs and very reasonable prices. Echelon saved me a lot of money by fixing a bike with rusted disc brakes. A great bike shop with awesome staff.
Outstanding! Great repair job. Great service. Best performance bike selection around.
Nice shop in a nice neighborhood. Shop staff knows their products and can readily help a cyclist purchase the right product. Would highly recommend this bike shop.
Been using this shop for a couple years now and they are great. Whether you are looking for an entry-level bike of any sort or the latest Pinarello with carbon wheels, they have a great selection. They did a custom build for me, which is kinda their specialty. My wife got a stock model Scott that was a great deal and she loves it. They have anything and everything else you need, and great service. If you didnt buy your bike there, theyll be glad to service it for a reasonable rate. They did for me before I got a new bike from them. Can you mail order for less? Of course, but there is a reason for Velominati Rule #58: Support your local bike shop. Without one, youll be SOL until a self-installing part arrives in the mail. A bike is not a microwave oven. Its personal, needs attention, and if its not a thing of beauty you need a new bike (and even if it is, you might need a new one anyway).
I recently purchased a new bike from Echelon Cycles for a 2-day 200 mile ride. The attentive service and proper fitting was just as important as picking the proper frame. Thanks guys!- Kurt
Great bike shop. Super friendly staff replaced the rear derailer and straightened the rear wheel in just a few minutes. Bikes for sale and a good selection of accessories (lights/locks/etc) too.
I had just got a bike online and the employee was instructing me on filling the tire. I expressed that I was pretty sure it was getting too full based on what I read about the tires online. He said to keep going and it blew my tube. I then had to pay them to fix it. What a joke. Sort of wonder if they just made a buck off me because it was apparent I was new to biking. The guy that seemed to be the owner was also aggressively rude to me.
Came in for a populo sport. The guys were great. Was very helpful. Great atmosphere. They know what they doing.
I had a very mixed experience during my visit here. A couple friends and I were bicycling on the West Side Highway and decided to stop by to look at Bike GPS units, and one of them was in the market for a new road bike. The Good:+ Nice selection of bikes and accessories+ Good service from the younger gent up frontThe Bad:- TERRIBLE service from the guy in the back, maybe the owner or manager. I didnt catch his name but he is a middle aged black man with an attitude that turned my friends and I off from buying anything. The younger guy helping us asked him what the price of one of the units were, and he literally YELLED at him THE BOOK IS UNDER THE DESK! IM NOT GOING TO ANSWER ANY MORE OF YOUR QUESTIONS!Jeez, dude, really? I also accidentally knocked off the sensor from my fork so I asked for one small zip tie to fix it until I installed my GPS unit at home (at the time I was going to buy it) and he just raised his eyebrows and stared at me. No response. Nothing. I would avoid this store at all costs.
Fast repairs. Competent but not tune-up was imperfect. I get smoother shifting and breaking at my NJ shop
Walked in this morning needing a few spare parts. They found what I needed in a hardware box and I was out. Will definitely be back for any REAL service / repairs on my two bikes.
Dont recommend because I just went to ask a question and they were open and kicked me out. Really bad customer service. 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾
The shop is friendly and serviceable. They have all the brands I like and continue to deliver reliable service. I plan to take all my business there and would recommend it to anyone.
Helpful, friendly knowledgeable. Make recommendations not pushy. Carry high quality products which are professionally curated.
I bought a tire for.my bike left shop the tube came out tire. Walked bike back 2 miles ride home and it did it again same thing. Now at another bike shop getting another tire. Smh
I went in on a Monday, had to replace a fork and they said I could pick it up Thursday at best but theyll call when its ready. Friday I called them and they said they ordered the wrong part so it will take until the following Wednesday. I run errands constantly at my job and my workload has been piling up so I asked if they could overnight the part so I can have my bike back before the next work week. They said I would have to pay for that, but I have already given them a week of my time. They did not even call to tell me it would be longer. I could have gone elsewhere and dealt with this sooner but they would rather keep me waiting.
I love the Echelon crew. My neighborhood bike shop - theyve saved me when my derailleur hanger broke, fixed a flat, fitted me with a new seat. Theyre the best.
I went to NYC from NJ on purpose to buy a cycling shoe. The first seller was kind, and helpful, until some rude guy came, he sounded like some kind of an idiot manager or something, he started to ask me not to walk with the shoes on the wood, and to remain on a small little piece of carpet, where i couldnt do much. Earlier to that he did another comment i had disliked too, he asked loud and rudely the seller to come to take the boxes for me so that i would not make the boxes fall like i couldnt handle it....some type of idiot guys that made me stop trying the shoes right away, leave the place and never wanna go back there again. CUSTOMER SERVICE= 0. dont waste your time, some other stores deserve your money more than this place.
The guys at echelon are knowledgable and helpful, they carry great bicycles for all uses, I have to say, even my bicycle is not top of the line, I was treated as VIP, and the best part of my experience was the custom fit of the bycicle to ergonomically work with my body for a complete riding experience. I have owned many bicycles and was never fit adequately. Special thanks to Pablo for the shared knowledge.
Best bike store
The absolute worst customer service. Stay far away.
Came in to try out a single-speed. Anna and her co-worker (didnt catch his name) were super welcoming and helpful. Good shopping experience.
Great bike store. High quality products, great service, good prices, nice people. Worth a trip.
My FAVORITE bike shop! Great small shop personal service. I love that they go off the path beaten by Sp@*z#d, Gi@nt and C@#^*dale - Hallelujah! I shopped half a dozen shops before my last bike purchase and found they had the best selection of brands including Scott, Willier and Colnago. Lifetime tuneups with purchase.Jorge - Best mechanic I know - the only one I trust.
Lazy and condescending, came here to browse cycling shoes, automatically assumed I needed them for soul cycle. Having the guy grab me shoes in my size and specs was like pulling teeth. And told me that cycling gear is expensive. Wow I didn’t know that. I’ll take my money for all that expensive cycling gear elsewhere.
Really happy with the service here. Rented a very comfortable bike for a very reasonable price. Efficient and friendly
Its one of the spots that I return to when I need service on my bike done. They give you a wide range of options and tell you upfront of any problems.
They did what i asked and it was well done, but the staff really isnt friendly, and the prices are quite steep for a simple fix. One nice thing though is that they have a pump freely available outside.
I love these guys. I live around the corner, and their most competent mechanic very quickly fixes anything thats not working on my bike. I bought a new moderately-priced commuter bike from them, and they patiently went through various Joe Breezer models, and gave me lots of riding time to feel comfortable with just the right one. After trying places with much larger inventory like EMS and REI, I found the perfect pair of womens cycling shoes there.Yes, its a small shop that gets very busy on weekends, so I go off peak when theyre not frazzled and get great help and service.
Echelon was really patient as we tried bikes. Pablo, an owner of the firm, gave really good advice. Nice experience overall sampling the bikes
Friendly and well-organized shop. Lots of mid-range bikes for getting into road riding. When I was there a delivery guy showed up needed brake repairs, and the owner thoughtfully described all the options & their prices.
Bought my Fuji absolute 1.7 from them. They were great, configured the bike best to meet my own geometry and Ive been very happy with it..
So you never forget your firsts, and this is the place that helped me accomplish my first successful bicycle ride. I was apprehensive and a bit cranky and everyone there was really amazing. So if you are an adult, who never learned as a child to ride, go here and itll be a piece of cake!
Very very helpful people! Free air and excellent service!
