From start to finish it was a really great car buying experience. I was so skeptical going here at first but now I don’t think I’ll go anywhere but here. The customer service I received from start to finish was absolutely amazing. I bought a car in May. Fast forward to October, started having an issue with the car starting. The warranty was fighting to fix it. So carmax said they didn’t agree with that decision and they would fix it for us with just the charge of the warranty which is $50 when the fix would have been $300. They really didn’t have to do that and they did and I’m so excited!!
They gave me a great price for my car on-line. I went to their lot for an actual bid for my car expecting a lower price than I was quoted, but was pleasantly surprised 5 minutes later when they gave me what they had offered on-line.I left a short time later with a check in my hand!The staff was friendly and the facility was large and clean.This was a great and safe way to sell a car. Everyone was so nice and helpful. They made sure the process was smooth and car was in tip-top shape. They also gave me a good price for the old car. The experience was a good one. The only thing that a small bit negative is they have set prices for cars and wont negotiate.

Selling a vehicle has never been easier! I submitted my information online, received the initial offer, then proceeded to arrange an appointment with CarMax for that same day. After arriving for my appointment, I only waited about 15 minutes and then an employee began the inspection process. They came back and honored the full offer amount. I was there at a rather busy time on a Sunday and was still in and out in about 90 minutes. I also still had a loan on the vehicle that I was selling but CarMax had it paid off in roughly one week from my visit. They gave me a check that day for the difference. Excellent customer service from everyone that I interacted with at this location. Great experience all around for my first time stepping foot in a CarMax.
This process from start to finish has been a nightmare. And im not done. Did everything online gearing up for a home delivery(that they offered me), get to the very final step, only to be told I am 17 miles outside of their delivery zone. Ok fine. Scheduled to go in and just do curbside since I had done everything online. 30 minutes from the store, I get a call telling me we can no longer do curbside because our trade in appraisal expired by a couple of days. Aggravated, but ok. I go in. While waiting for the appraisal, we go to look at the car we are about to buy. Cant find it. Look everywhere. 30 minutes later, find it. Its out front in the curbside area. So it comes time to sign paperwork. Took entirely too long, and turns out, they had someone else sign the title to our car in error earlier that day so they had to get me extra paperwork to get a Vin inspection. Took off work early today to get that done, I dont have all the paperwork. Cant get anyone on the phone. If you call, plan for at least an hour of being on the phone, 85% of that being on hold. This has been a disaster from start to finish.

Very smooth process, until the end. The paperwork end has room for improvement - no reason to spend 90 - 120 minutes at the dealership in this day and age. Particularly when the deal was done days in advance of showing up to sign papers and pick up the car. That being said, the no-haggle car-buying process with CarMax rang true!

I have a decent amount of anxiety when it comes to buying a car. Based on my experience with CarMax, I will start here first in the future. I found the car I needed at a price better than what I was finding on other websites. The purchase experience was easy and without pressure. They even made it very easy for me to go to the DMV to get my plates; they gave me everything I would need, calculated my fees to the penny, and reminded me to bring the other documents I would need to gather. I did need to take advantage of the warranty included in the sale, and they took care of that quickly and easily with no hassle.

Fred helped me with my previous car and when I decided it was time to trade it in I messaged him to see if he was still there because the experience was so easy and he was great. He moved departments and referred me to Dave. He was also amazing and made everything as easy as could be. I had a vehicle picked out to test drive and was able to reserve the vehicle for a scheduled test drive time. So, when we arrived, an employee was waiting for me with the vehicle ready to go. We ended up not choosing that vehicle, but found another we really liked. Other than the long wait to sign the paperwork at the end, the process was great and the staff was wonderful. This is our second family vehicle from CarMax.

I love Carmax because they put customers first and are willing to work with you. Might have to be patient but they do get you going right away with the process of selling you car or buying a new car. I had great experience with them. Looking to do more business with them in the future.
The CarMax personnel were ready, willing, and able to work with us through the entire process of buying a suitable vehicle. I would have liked to have had the CarMax service department work on my vehicle before I took possession since it had a vibration in the frontend. But they were to busy. The local car dealer was more than happy to inspect the vehicle and fix the problem.
They lost my quote and had to start a new appraisal, which I was initially weary of.. but the man that helped me got back to me in 10 minutes with the same number as I had. From there, the entire process was prompt, smooth and every person I worked with was professional, kind and blatantly trying to go as quick as they could. I really appreciated that.
My rating is for the Merriam, KS team specifically Stacey and Jordan! For over a week I was struggling with the call center team, so many things started going wrong and the communication got worse by the day. I decided right before I was going to give up that I would call the actually store, withing a matter of hours (like 2) Stacey had everything set, documents that were told to me were lost resurfaced, all numbers told and shown to me honored! I caught Stacey hours before a planned trip so he passed the ball to Jordan who completely picked up and closed everything out the next day! What these men did for me in 12 hours I am truly grateful for! I appreciate all the hard work, how quickly and thoroughly things were handled and that wonderful bow you placed on my car!
Sold a car and bought another within one week. The entire process was clearly explained & hassle-free. All the staff we dealt with were friendly and very knowledgeable about the entire process. Would recommend to anyone shopping for a used vehicle.
Was treated courteously and fairly by every employee, and so far very pleased with our purchase. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is their processes: it takes a lot longer to do things than youd think. My wife is a chronic migraineur and we went on a good day, but were there so long that by the end she was crying with pain under the bright lights, noise, and activity. We made it clear to anyone who would listen that she was in pain and likely to get worse so could we please expedite the process, but that didnt appear to happen. Beyond our particular circumstances, though, I would recommend; I will buy there again.

Wife had the day off and decided to just go browse for a car, not having plans to purchase a vehicle. Ended up looking at cars at CarMax and she saw a wonderful Mercedes ML350 class. We drove it and purchase the vehicle in less than 2hours. What a wonderful experience! Highly recommended CarMax!
We have bought way too many cars in the last few years, and it’s always been a painful process. Our first purchase with CarMax in 2018 was pretty rough & exhausting, but this time around was as good as it could be (the process is still draining, that’s inevitable). Due to the daunting experience in 2018, we had planned to avoid CarMax (sorry, guys, no offense) but alas, they were the only ones open on a Sunday. We worked with John Lubianetsky and he was wonderful throughout the entire process. John was very kind and personable and not pushy at all. John restored our faith in CarMax. John is the man!
My first experience with CarMax. It wont be the last. The moment I walked in I noticed how relaxed and low keyed it was. Yet, the salesperson that I dealt with knew his job, answered all of my questions and I left having never being pressured. Not like most of my passed experiences dealing with the typical dealerships.

This is my fourth car I have purchased at Car Max. The execution of the transaction was flawless. I highly recommend Car Max to anyone looking for a used car. The car I found was a 2017 with 8,000 miles. Love the idea of searching the entire nation instead of just locally. My salesperson could not have been more professional, knowledgeable, or efficient. Awesome experience once again! They just keep getting better.
I completed a purchase which was extremely easy as everything was done online or via phone when I arrived only thing I did was sign documents. A few weeks later I found a newer model vehicle with a lower price and thanks to their 30 day guarantee policy I was able to change out the vehicles again no hassle because everything was completed ahead of my arrival. I was very impressed and satisfied. Car shopping has always been my least favorite because it is so time consuming. CarMax makes everything so fast and efficient car shopping has become my favorite.
There was a bit of a wait despite our appointment, but the wait was not excessive; and the staff was very good about keeping us apprised of the progress on evaluating and selling our vehicle. Everyone we dealt with was polite and efficient, and we were offered a fair price for the vehicle we sold to Carmax.
I am so used to bad car buying experiences that I went into this place with an aggressive, “I’m not going to get hosed by you” attitude. I was surprised that they don’t negotiate pretty much anything. It’s a take it or leave it deal. I’m sure they make money, but they should. They get you on interest rates and try to tell you that you are getting a great deal. I’m sure they always say that. Get your own financing lined up before heading in and walk out happy. We did.
We really liked the process of buying a car at Carmax. We had been all over the city working with different dealerships during the pandemic and everyone wanted to negotiate all sorts of extras into the price and lowballed our trade-in vehicle value based on what we owed on the loan, not what the vehicle was actually worth. Getting a trade-in offer online was refreshing and it was WAY more than we were offered anywhere else. We loved working with Cole. The fact the salesmen don’t work on commission meant he was truly there just to help us find the right vehicle for us. Once we decided on a vehicle the process to buy was quick and easy since there was no negotiating back and forth. Truly the only complaint we had was the wait time for financing and even that took less time than the overall time at another dealership would have been.
Shout out to sales associate Brian B for his support and excellent customer service. I had a whole slew of questions that he explained clearly. He spent the time to explain the bells and whistles of the car.The entire process was straight forward and transparent. I appreciate the no pressure environment and would recommend CarMax to any new or experienced buyer.
Most difficult and frustrating car buying experience I’ve ever had.
The car I paid a bonus price for has 2nd rate name brand tires Car Max put on. . I had one that has a cut in the sidewall and the wheel has a dimple where it is cut. I let the wheel damage go but I asked for name brand tires to replace all 4 .They said no, it is corporate policy to not change tires... Not a good policy. I only ask for normal Goodyear or Michelin name brand tires. It is also a safety concern.

Although I love my car, the interest rate is out the roof, and I have really good credit. I would advise you to get pre-approved by a bank before you finance through them. I will never be buying from CarMax again. Car had a couple issues after purchasing but service department was willing to fix the problems, but in the both times of taking my car to get the brakes fixed and the sway bars fixed, it was scheduled as a drop off which would take all day for them to fix. Both times I told them ( multiple people) when I booked the appointment that I had to be done by a certain time. At drop off they said that they were unaware of that and they were not able to get my car done by the time I needed because people were booked in front of me, even though again I stated multiple times to multiple people I needed to be out by a certain time. The second time in they resolved the problem and just gave me the parts to either fix myself or take to a local mechanic, but the communication is horrible and its definitely not worth the headache of buying a car there (edit: they completely misdiagnosed the problem, so again, taking my car to a different mechanic to get it done right)

The independent stores the one that gave me a rotten taste in my mouth but Jonathan the salesman at the store and Mariam was a very nice guy he walked me through everything and got me the car that I wanted and I really appreciate it always help
Gave 4 stars only because I did a online transfer to Kansas city. The online system is lacking in several options. 1 being Debt card only for transfer 2 being doesnt give you options and prices for extended warranty 3 being nowhere to put in county and state to figure in taxes. With that being said once delivered everything went smoothly. This was a cash purchase so cannot speak on the financing part.
My salesman Stacey was a kind gentleman with good vibes. I love love love my car. But, I’m two payments in and I still haven’t received my title. Tags are expired and even carmax corporate and the wichita location have openly admitted that this Merriam, KS location doesn’t answer their phones. I’ve been attempting to retrieve my title for so long that I finally had to call the Johnson county District Attorney’s office for advice. I understand there was an initial mix up with FedEx but why can’t the KC store pick up phones or call back? Very disheartening.EDIT: OVER 72 hours later....no follow up response from MOD or staff at the Merriam Kansas. How hard is it to call Fedex, ship the package, and provide me with a tracking number?
I have to say, I dont think I will ever purchase a car any where else, ever again. The process was relatively easy and for others, will probably be very easy. Most everything was able to be done over the phone or on-line. I found my dream car in another state, paid a fee and had it shipped to my location. Very simple, very easy. My finance portion was a little more difficult than others in that I was a bankruptcy case. I was not happy with my immediate sales person, but everyone else there was fantastic! Including the final sales person. We had three approvals come through. We went with the obvious lower finance and cheaper payment. It took several days of back and forth and in the end, the finance company reneged. My sales person then told me I was out of time and needed to come up with the massive down payment immediately or lose the car. That wasnt cool as it wasnt my fault the finance company went back on their word and it took them 5 days to decide that. The last salesman I worked with told me they wished they would drop that company as they do that to their customers all the time. Overall it was a great experience. No haggling, no hassles and a fairly quick process. I gotta say, I loved the bow at the end, I dont care how corny it is!

I absolutely would not do business with this CarMax again. I bought a Volkswagen Atlas from them back in May of 2021. There was a title defect that they assured me would be quickly taken care of. Almost 4 months later and I still dont have a title. Reaching them by phone is impossible. The business office is unreliable and unhelpful.

Selling my car was actually just like they say it would be. It was efficient and fairly quick -- all told it took just over an hour from the time I pulled into the parking space. The people were courteous, and we only had to wait a few times: first when we got there, next while the appraisal was taking place, and last when waiting to sign the papers and get the check. I had gone online and had an offer, but I was worried they would haggle down the price. It turned out that their appraiser offered exactly the same amount! I really did like the car I sold, but I hardly ever drove it.

I have NOT bought a car here, just sold, but I would suggest CarMax for a very simple way to get cash for a car. Please note, I made sure to have all paperwork ready (title, lien release, current registration) and ensured that signatures would be correct before I went, so I am sure this helped the process.

I had to drive two hours to get my van but Mr Dave made my day making sure everything was in order before I got there and checked on me throughout my drive, he walked me though the entire process, Making sure I understood everything from the payments to the term of the loan to the Carmax service plan and it was like talking to a friend that I haven’t seen in years.i love my van, The pictures on the site did not do it justice❤️. Having worst time trying to get a hold of CarMax service center about getting my rental car since they have mine in the shop. Kinda ridiculous that there’s no one to answer the phone anywhere at this location.
Was told at multiple dealerships that I didnt qualify for a loan. I was told the problems with my car with the last $600 lease would make me end up with $600 added on. I got $4000 for my trade in, with less than great credit, and got into a 2020! With under 9000 miles! WHAT!? GO HERE, YOU WONT REGRET IT
My boyfriend got his car here, then a week later I decided to get a new car. There was an suv I had an eye on the sales girl was having trouble finding the it on the lot she looked for an hour not giving up and finally found it. I like that she didnt just give up and make me look at other cars she went the distance.
My family and I have purchased many vehicles from Carmax here in KC at the Merriam location, and have never been disappointed. I trust the quality of the vehicles; knowledge of the service department; and efficiency of the finance (paperwork) department. The staff is always pleasant, helpful and respectful - as a woman, that makes or breaks a deal with me no matter the vehicle.
I had some cosmetic issues when I purchased the car. The gentleman today got me in and out when I dropped off the car. It was finished in less that 5 hours. On top of fixing the original issue. He detailed my car!
Horrible experience. Our salesman had absolutely no knowledge about the vehicles we test drove. Worse he seemed uninterested in figuring out out questions. Could not tell us how to configure Teen driving mode for example.We are buying a car by Wednesday. Will go somewhere else to make our purchase.
They demanded I log into my bank account on their computer. WTH! No! I had my own financing. They said its their policy to show proof of income. I had a verification of employment and two months of check stubs with me....and my financing with an outside vendor all set up. I said this makes no sense!!!! They said unless we do that they wouldnt sell us the car....I said....BYE-BYE!!!
Car shopping is a stressful experience, especially when you’re a young woman like me who doesn’t know a lot about cars or the “buying experience”. However, CarMax is not like those typical car dealerships that tell you every car is “great”, and resort to high pressure sales tactics that force you into a car you’re not satisfied with. Ronnie was amazing!! He was honest, and showed me cars I would like based on my preferences. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. His complete honesty and transparency is what won me over. Thank you Ronnie so much!!

Did online quote to sell car, made appointment, took car to Carmax, got a check. It was that simple, the employees were polite, helpful and fast. Nice they put our dirty plates in a bag also, it’s the simple things you don’t think about until someone else does! Recommend checking out when you are looking to buy or sell.
THE WORST! Do not be misled into believing the carmax experience will be quicker or easier. Working with them has been the single worst buying experience of my life. They promised me home delivery and forced me to buy car insurance on the car before I had even purchased it (as a condition of the home delivery), but then days later informed me that they suddenly no longer do home deliveries. This is only after I had committed money to have the car shipped from another state and to get car insurance, and after they had coordinated a set delivery time...which they ended up cancelling just two hours before the scheduled delivery. Not to mention the CONSTANT disorganization and cluelessness of every single person working there. What I thought would be a simple online order ended up being a 2 1/2 week nightmare of constantly being on the phone or responding to emails due to their disorganization. They would ask me for the same information over and over, or tell me flat out wrong information that someone else would later correct. Frankly, their dealings with me bordered on fraudulent. Even though it was the exact car I wanted, Im cancelling my order and going to a Toyota dealership where they understand customer service. This is my first time writing a review for a company, but I felt I had to....seriously there is no way to even begin explaining the horribleness of this place. What a waste of time and money for nothing!! SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND FRUSTRATION!
They gave me $2,500 more than I was going to get as a trade in. So they bought mine. I was able to get into a vehicle somewhere else. I would have bought here but they didnt have what I wanted. They were fast and thorough. HIGHLY recommend
Ill be really honest, the customer service at this location is a joke. We bought a car back in March 2021 and the options listed on the sticker were not actually options on the car. When I called CarMax to get this sorted they initially refused to do anything about it and told me the price was correct. When my husband called the next day and explained the same situation suddenly they agreed something should be done. We took the back in and repurchased for $1,000 less and they were to send us a check for the refund. It is now July and we have yet to see a check. I have called this location 6 times this week and still have not spoken to anyone. Each time I call their direct office no one picks up and I am then placed on hold/automated service line. Without trying to exaggerate I have been trying to get ahold of someone (today alone) for 30 minutes so far with no end in sight.
A close relative who’s husband had recently passed away wanted to sell his car-since it was no longer needed. She had a great SUV to sell-but is home bound and had no idea where to start. I offered to help and utilized the Carmax website - we created an online quote -entering accurate info- and we set an appointment at the local Carmax store. The website provided a list of all needed documentation and items we needed to take with us to complete the sale. Upon arriving at our appointment time, I was hesitant that something was going to go wrong; however, the process went off without a hitch. Our online quote was honored, and we dealt with a helpful pleasant responsible person in the business office. Many kudos to Latoya! The entire process took less than 2 hours and we left with a bank draft for the correct amount . Our Carmax experience was just as presented by Carmax’s ads— I will definitely use them again !
Where do I even start with how HORRIBLE my experience at CarMax has been?! On the day I purchased the car outright, they were more then eager to assist. We found what we thought was a good buy for our money. In and out in under an hour. Three days later discovered all sorts of things wrong with the vehicle and asked to bring it into service. After making our decision to return the car (they have a 30 day return policy, I decided in 6) we then became nobodies. We were told by 2 individuals that the car should have never passed inspection to be sold. It took over 3 hours to process our return. We were then told it would be another 2 weeks to get our money back in check form. 2 slow weeks later.... check arrives. We go to the bank in which it is drawn (Wells Fargo) and are told they are unable to cash any checks from CarMax, only allowed to deposit. Me, not having an account there, then goes to my bank. My bank deposits the check and now tells me I have to wait 10, yes 10!, days for funds to be verified and get the money to purchased another vehicle. (in which we found over a week ago and have been under the good graces of this dealership to hold it) I will NEVER give my business to CarMax nor will I ever recommend them.
Can to Carmax due to totaling a car and needing to get a new one ASAP. Only made sense to go somewhere that had a lot of options readily available. The salesman I had was uncoordinated and uneducated on the processes. Post out on a couple cars because he told me to “wait a bit while he goes and talks to the manager” comes back and the car has been taken. They did not register my car like I paid for them to do. And “extra” warranty is worthless! Im so disappointed with them in a time of need. Oh and to call and talk to a person, better be ready to wait on hold for 10 plus minutes just to get to the operator. Very disappointed and would trade this car in if I could.

The process of selling my car, the appraisal and getting paid 100% of offer, it was pretty seamless. The wait was long as you are waiting with people buying cars. Otherwise I would give 5 stars. If I could change anything, I would offer a separate area for folks only selling to finalize the transaction.

Zac Clifford went above and beyond - I reserved a vehicle transfer and something happened that the vehicle did not get shipped and was sold.Zac - researched for the same type of vehicle and found 1 with more features, less miles, 1K less in cost. He had it shipped in for us to review. All this while he was off work for the day. Thanks for having a vested interest in making my wife and myself a priority.
Very slow service. Nobody bothers to give the service as per scheduled time. Waiting time is too long. Dont have value for time.
We had a better experience with Carvana.Carvana paid $4k more then CarMax for our car….Carvana car we purchased was $1k less then CarMax…also the Carvana car had 10,000 less miles. I don’t know these are just a few things, but it’s definitely worth looking at other online places.
