What we didnt think about was the supply issues COVID-19 has had on the automakers.My primary dealer at Smart Toyota of the Quad Cities couldnt provide a vehicle that was suitable however, they were very helpful in letting me know that Toyota of Iowa City had a Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited coming in which checked all of the boxes my wife and I had and recommended I reached out directly.Captain Kirk Deutsch answered the the call and like a true master of his craft was able to navigate the upcoming allocations to his dealership for the Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited pictured with this review. Our experience at Toyota of Iowa City was fantastic! Hunter, our dealership associate, was patient, knowledgeable, and very responsive to our questions. We werent certain we where going to buy a car because of the limited options and the market, and we visited the dealership and met with Hunter several times on at least three or four different days over about a year to ask questions, test drive cars, and narrow down our options. We finally found what we wanted and Hunter helped us make it all happen. The entire experience was seemless, from sales, to financing, to buying OEM accessories from the Parts Department. I went by to pickup roof bars for our new hybrid Highlander about a week after we bough the SUV and Hunter even carried the box out to our car for us.

I had been apprehensive about getting a used car to replace my twenty year old one for quite some time; fortunately I found Mollie McKibben. She was the perfect sales associate to guide me painlessly through the process. Best experience I have ever had buying a car. Entire team was knowledgeable, professional, helpful and extremely kind. There were no surprises, everything was exactly as advertised and communication was on point. They went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of and that everything went smoothly. They arranged travel accommodations when my travel plans were disrupted and even surprised me with fruits/snacks for a road trip home they knew I was about to embark on. After going to several dealerships and being disappointed, Frank at Toyota of Iowa City was a breath of fresh air. He was genuine and easy to talk to. They obviously care for their clients. I bought a used car and they made sure everything was in tip top shape for me.The purchasing process was easier than expected. They didn’t try to upsell me on bogus add on stuff. My pricing list had my car, taxes, and title fee. That’s it! Definitely go see Frank next time you need a new car.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. The vehicle I was purchasing was having troubles starting when we were picking it up so they checked it out and found out that the alternator wasn’t good. Instead of doing nothing about it they ordered the part and had it fixed and ready to go in an hour from when I got there. They were very upfront about it and didn’t try to hide it at all. They also didn’t add it on to the cost of the vehicle. I definitely would go back there and would recommend them to any friend or family member looking for a vehicle.

Terrible experience at Toyota of Iowa city. The salesman would not let us test drive a car that we were interested in. We were not dressed the best but both of us were executives and one of us was a business owner. What a bunch of pretentious people! It was clear that they did not want to help us find a car even though I own three Toyotas. Hopefully this is not happening every Toyota dealer because this is unacceptable.

Hunter was great, listened to what I was looking for in a used car, showed me what was on the lot, and let me know when new options arrived. He also called me on my analysis paralysis which helped me to decide among all the cars I’d seen and dealerships I’d visited.When I finally decided to buy, I had forgotten to bring the title for my trade in and my checkbook. Just avoid repairing your car at this Toyota of Iowa CityHere is the story it could give you hint to save money by avoiding repairing your car with them, I have a 2005 Toyota Prius with 151 K miles, and I notice that every time after its raining, the red triangle of hybrid battery issue come on dashboard and car start but would not drive.I called them and told them that I have issue with my hybrid battery, they said I need to tow the car to them so they can inspect it ( they never told me in advance that they are charging $$$ for inspection), they asked me how old is the hybrid battery, I told them it’s about 16 month old and I explained to them about the raining issue and it might be there is a leak of water into the car trunk.Few days later they called me to tell me that the hybrid battery need to change, and it cost $4530 + taxCome on, the hybrid battery is more expensive than the entire car value if it is in a good running condition, I decline there offer to fix it, then I got hit with $191 bill for car diagnoses, I tried to dispute with the service manager simply because no one told me before towing the car to them it will cost too much money to change the hybrid battery and also $191 to diagnoses the car it’s a lot of money.Also, they did not fully inspect the car, they just diagnosed for hybrid batter only for $191.Also I showed them last car report of oil change and car inspection which is just happened 1 week before at Toyota of Cedar Rapids, and everything in the car was fine, is it possible that they hybrid batter need to be changed without even showing symptoms that it’s going bad ?But they insist I should pay $191, not to mention also towing cost (but thanks that towing was covered by my insurance).The more frustration part is I called 3 different Toyota Dealership to get a price for changing the Hybrid battery and it was as following.Toyota of Cedar Rapids ----------- $ 2585 including tax & laborToyota of Muscatine---------------$3001.35 in totalToyota of Des Moines-------------$1950 for the battery + between $600 – $900 for labor.**And the absolute big frustration is the hybrid batter does not need to change, I monitored for 1 week after I got my car from them, and its working fine and a full tank of gas last more than 400 miles.So, it is clear to me that there is something wrong at this Iowa City Toyota Dealership, it would be much more easier if they were upfront about their prices when I called them 1st time before towing the car and all this hassle and losing $191 for nothing during this tough time.

As far as car dealers goes, this place is fine.

We worked with Molly and she was not interested in selling a car just selling a lease. She was unhelpful and basically told us that even with pre-approval from our bank that we wouldn’t qualify for the cars we wanted to look at.

Troy is a funny, patient, and honest salesman. He knew my budget and never pushed me to go beyond that, and worked with me to find the best car for me. Service department is also very impressive. They got me in the same day I called with my issue, and called me within a few hours that it was already taken care of!

The service department has been very accommodating and excellent with getting me in the last 2 times that we needed service on both our Lexus SUVs in such a short notice. Brad truly cares for his customers. I just ran into an issue with the turbo on our car, and called from I-380, I spoke with David who was very kind and told me that they will get me in as soon as I could be there. Problem was a loose clamp. Brad took care of it, and didn’t even charge me for the few minutes spent! Thank you for the excellent and great old-school customer service!
