Place talks all about their tofu and dairy-free options but doesnt actually carry any from what I can tell. They say they have a pint of hard dairy-free ice cream for $12? Im honestly confused by the whole thing, and so were the workers, and assume they should just take down dairy free from anything.
I found this little ice cream place after walking around the mall and what a gem this is, their taiyaki was so good I will probably dream of it. I also had never had black sesame ice cream and i am hooked now. Loved this experience.
Dessert: 4/5Service: 3/5Ambiance: 4/5Overall: A yummy good time! The extended review...Dessert:Black Sesame Takoyaki - 4/5 - Yummy. There are only a few places in the city where Ive had this flavor as an option. I also am not a soft serve person but this was surprisingly delicious for me.Service: 3/5 - Friendly staff.Ambiance: 4/5 - Its more a storefront which makes sense for a mall location. The mall itself is a nice setting, fairly clean and pleasant to be in.
Taiyaki cone was fresh. Better hurry and eat it fast before it drips all over. Lined up half an hour for this dessert fix.
When you crave something creamy, cold, and sweet, youll have to make a few decisions. Savory black sesame? Energizing matcha? Or maybe sweet ube? Do you want the aesthetic appeal of things poking out of your dessert? Or are you in a keep-it-simple-sprinkles kind of mood? Regardless, heres an equation to help you out: uji + soft serve + fish cone = yum-splosion.
I had Uji Time over a year ago in San Mateo, and I was very impressed, but this particular site in Japantown was a disappointment. The taiyaki seemed old and stale, and the ice cream was very grainy and half-melted, like it wasnt being kept cold enough? Just kinda gross. It was nothing like the smooth texture I had in San Mateo. This location also looked very run down and shabby, it didnt look at all like the other Uji Time stores Ive seen.
Taiyaki!!! IG - @masturplater$7 for a small which comes with 2 toppings but only 3 ice cream flavors - matcha, black sesame, and tofuFilled with either Nutella or red bean paste.Pretty quick service, everyone working there seems like high school age and you can tell they’re trying! Long lineFree water also :)
We got the fish with matcha for around $7. It comes with 2 free toppings. The portion is not than enough for 2. Good experience. Contact free ordering via machine. Quick and pain-free
We wanted the taiyaki fish waffles, but they were out when we went, so we had to get waffle cones instead. The soft serve definitely had some ice crystals going on, as it did not have a smooth consistency. My friend got the red velvet flavour, and I got the tofu flavour. The taste was okay but not fantastic. This particular soft serve would not even pair well with taiyaki fish waffles in my opinion. I don’t plan to return.
We drove to Japantown for some ujitime dessert black sesame + matcha swirl 🍦 and their limited July flavor lavender, which I got in a redbean-filled taiyaki cone with tofu soft serve swirl (I really wanted to try the tofu one and it was delish) topped with matcha pocky sticks and dango (mochi balls with a brown sugar syrup). Long lines but move quickly
I was taken here by my friend and it was a very nice change of your normal flavors. Ended up getting a large black sesame taiyaki with red bean filling and it was really good! And cute. We also decided to try out the mochi ice cream. Wouldnt get another but cant say we didnt like the experience. It did take a few minutes to get our stuff since we had 5 people but we didnt mind. Would go back for more taiyaki
If you are a big fan of matcha green tea ice cream, you shall not miss this joint.I have tried matcha green tea ice cream in many places even at gourmet ice cream factory as well.No place make it like Uji does, the flavor is well balanced in sweetness and just enough of cream but not overwhelming. The tofu was an interesting one also.
Appreciate that the Honey Lavender (seasonal) ice cream actually had a strong honey lavender flavor!
This ice cream is the cherry on top of your Japantown experience!!! The match soft serve Ice cream is super delicious and the black sesame omg soooo yummy!! We also tried some of the mochi and super good!!!The prices are fair and very decently served, I might even recommend sharing as it is pretty big and filling...I will make a note - their is usually always, always a line of at least 5-10 min. minimum wait just to order, so if you really want to try it just keep this in mind as their is also a wait time if you get the specialty cone!
Delicious ice cream and cones, tasty toppings, flexible ordering, fast service. We had a great time.I liked how they were flexible about exactly what we ordered. Im also glad they had a small size cone option, though it is still quite large. We ordered the matcha flavor, which was strong and deep--very satisfying. I tasted to black sesame. Its also excellent. Id love to try it with the Nutella they offer.
Pretty good place. I havent had any of the flavors they were offering in the past, except for green tea ice cream. Its the first time Ive tried toasted sesame flavored ice cream, it was better than I expected. Right when you walk in, you can smell the deliciousness of their taiyaki. I definitely want to come back and try the other products.
Every time Im in Japan town I make sure to stop by here and get the black sesame ice cream. Its absolutely amazing and I miss it when Im not in the city. Visit this place and get hooked.
Its ok place. Not worth to wait in line. Got matcha green tea & red bean flavor mochi. Sweet & chewy but no taste of red bean & matcha just purely sweet. Tried honey lavender (seasonal flavor) soft serve. Strong lavendar flavor which is great but not creamy instead more like slush & icy. I will choose Matcha Maiko more than this place.
Absolutely definitely fabulous desserts. Mochi at its finest. We tried all the flavors.
The ice cream was delicious and they tasted amazing.
I got the small taiyaki cone with with matcha ice cream, matcha powder and red bean paste. The ice cream itself was good, but probably not the best Ive had. The matcha powder helped increase the green tea taste of the ice cream. The taiyaki cone was perfect making up for any lost flavor of the ice cream. I would recommend if you have never eaten a fresh taiyaki cone before.
Great place for delicious soft-served ice cream. Line can get quite long on weekends, holidays, or special events, maybe 20+ mins. Otherwise its usually around 5-10 mins. Wait time after ordering is about 5 mins.Although they also serve slushie drinks and mochi ice cream, the main draw is their soft-served ice cream. They only have 3 flavors(matcha, black sesame, and tofu) and one seasonal flavor, 2 types of cones(taiyaki and waffle), 2 types of fillings(nutella and red bean) and various toppings(red bean, kinako, matcha powder, matcha powder, pocky stick, poppy seeds, sprinkles, wafer stick, and French crepe). My go-to is usually a matcha flavor topped with red bean and sprinkles in a nutella filled taiyaki cone. The taiyaki cone isnt that impressive, but its a slightly sweet pastry thats somewhat soft and crumbles easily in your mouth. Still, altogether its a delicious treat.
Heard about the Taiyaki ice cream from an online post, and had to try it myself. Although first surprised at the price (the large was ~7.50 with tax) what I got was well worth it. The taiyaki was stuffed with red bean on the bottom, had roasted sesame ice cream (my favorite flavor here) in the middle and matcha ice cream on top. The taiyaki cone tasted like a soft, sweet belgium waffle. It was indeed large, and could have easily been split amongst two people. Feels like you’re eating four desserts in one! Definitely worth trying.
Delicious matcha ice cream in fish waffle cones!! I want to try their black sesame and tofu flavors next!
Quick service! Pictured is Ube flavor. Not pictured was black sesame. Ube was delicious, first time tasting it! It’s like a vanilla-y nutty flavor? It was SOO good and I’m hooked. Black seasame tasted like sweetened sesame oil which sounds gross but was surprisingly tasty but I could only have a little because sesame is just so strongly flavored haha. Fish cone was also super cute!
Very tasty taiyaki worth the wait in line. Try it!
Matcha ice cream! THE BEST! Im not an ice cream fan, but this one rocked my world! And my husbands. He is a fan!
There was a really long line but the matcha soft cream was good... more ice than creamy. We had it with the taiyaki cone which was also good, although we were unaware it comes with red bean paste at the bottom. They have a picture of Taiyaki anatomy but they forgot to add that it comes with the red bean paste, which we dont like. My husband told me taiyaki usually comes with red bean paste but I insisted it didnt because of the picture. Other than that, its worth a try.
Was it the best ice cream Ive ever had? No. But it was a rare and warm day and we decided to treat ourselves. The small was plenty for me. The thing about the fish cone, is that you gotta eat quick otherwise the ice cream melts right through it and all over your hands. If you have time to kill and a sweet tooth to fulfill, its worth checking out.
Tip: Uber popular Berkeley dessert shop comes to SFs Japantown. Waits can be considerable (expect 30 minutes) but its a treat worth trying. The ice cream flavors are delicious and the Taiyaki Cone is lined with adzukiBeans and a meal unto itself. Extra toppings are a bit pricey but do make a better IG photo.
The sesame ice cream was delicious and quite interesting. Not the best ice cream Ive ever had but definitely worth a few more visits. The cashier was very polite and welcoming. Also has a nice place to sit outside the store to enjoy your ice cream and a colored wall for the gram!
Pretty yummy. The fish shape cone taste like a sugar cone, but the texture is closer to a thin dense cake. I got the lavender honey and black sesame ice cream with red bean as a filling. Really good! One of my daughters ordered mochi and said it was very good too.The novelty was worth the price.
Good desserts
Great, fun ice cream!
Their taiyakis are the cutest desserts ever! Absolutely love coming here. Theres usually a bit of a wait but its definitely worth it. Would also recommend trying out their seasonal ice cream flavours, theyre pretty unique and hard to find elsewhere
Their roasted purple yam ice cream is delicious, this is something I wish we had in Sacramento or Modesto. I will be craving more of this purple ice cream forever now!! I will be back when Im back in SF.
Strongest Matcha flavors for soft-serve.
Delicious ice cream! Perfect place to go to after eating at a restaurant nearby. The taiyaki comes warm, and you could choose no filling, sesame filling or hazelnut chocolate filling (nutella). If you ask, they could give you a taste of the ice cream. For an order of small you could get one flavor ice cream and two toppings.
I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now and.. this place was what I expected it to be. I have heard this place had dessert that did not attract people with sweet tooths but I do not like super sweet desserts, so this was great. The tiramisu cake was a bit dry and thick, which I did not like but the powder and cream was not too sweet! The ice cream was good..could be a little sweeter but overall I loved the presentation!
