The world of chocolate, anyone who loves chocolate cant and shouldnt be missing out this place. The appearance and the entire square was lit with all lights and decorations during the holidays. We can see the step-by-step how chocolate is made and processed. They give away free squares on visiting their store. their sundae are amazing!!
A must visit when you come to the Bay area!I didn’t know Ghirardelli started in San Francisco. It’s a part of history and visiting this place is a must. They offer a wide variety of their chocolates and desserts! I got the raspberry ice cream and it was heaven. It was the perfect treat on a hot Sunday morning
I was really excited to try some desserts from here, until I saw the calorie counts (900+). If youre up for some serious indulgence, this is the place. I ended up ordering the Ocean Beach, which was salty and sweet. I liked it, but the fudge quickly melted the ice cream, so you need to eat it immediately unless you dont mind some soup. Id recommend stopping here if you are in the area!
This place offers so much selection of yummy sweet treats and plenty of souvenirs to choose from. Youll fell like your a kid again, just the scent alone makes you want to stick around forever. By just looking at the different items you know delicious. The place is very organized and staff are very attentive and friendly. Checking out is a breeze and place is observing social distancing, providing hand sanitizers in different location of the stores.
One of the classics- if you come to SF you are obligated to come here. And try their famous chocolate offerings. There was a waiting line but just around five minutes - service was very quick. We first saw the old school chocolate factory which is sort of a part of the restaurant. I wish they could separate the area so people who want to see the factory don’t have to run into people giving and taking orders. The restaurant area was fully full.Coming to the chocolate offerings - we got the world famous hot chocolate sundae with a fudge brownie (hello sugar overload!) - it was as delicious as promised but I do wish they had added more chocolate - a lot of it was cream and sugar and a bit of chocolate sauce. We also got a sea salt chocolate Sundae but didn’t really taste the saltiness - and this one was also lacking in chocolate - I wonder if they have options with more chocolate? Shouldn’t they be advertising those as “world famous” considering they are a chocolate factory? It was part of a larger Ghirardelli square and they had a number of stores and places to sit and listen to live music etc. Also had a fountain. As you exit there’s also a chocolate shop. Interesting place but they need to up the chocolate quotient in their sundaes!
I have been fortunate enough to go to many Ghirardelli Shops throughout California which there are many, Florida, Chicago, Texas, Nevada and even Kentucky believe it or not. So needless to say I’m a chocoholic through and through, not to mention my sweet tooth 🤤🙄.So, I was blown away when the worker at the register told me that for any and every Sundae you order you can only order VANILLA! No offense to anyone that are just vanilla fans out there. But vanilla to me is just too vanilla, which is why that saying exists. So, I requested the Ocean Beach Sea Salt Caramel Sundae with Espresso Chip Ice Cream and the employee at the register that day 07/22/2020 at approximately 1:00PM still said that it’s not an option. If I wanted anything other than vanilla I’d have to order it additional to the sundae and it’d be on the side.As I mentioned before I have been throughout numerous locations nationwide and I have never ordered any sundae with vanilla ice cream. And I ask him, are you kidding me?! I’m attempting not to be too rude and ask, is it too complicated to scoop anything other than vanilla ice cream because there’s no labels or anything on their end and he said that’s how it is for every location and is policy. So hopefully one of the managing staff there can set the record straight for the that employee or know that there hasn’t been a single employee until now that’s enforced that rule. Either way, I’d like to hear from someone in the staff and if I am in the wrong, then I will gladly change my star review. But if this employee was just too lazy or something, people like myself, they’re losing business. But I knew what I wanted and was determined to get it, lol.So, I simply went upstairs to their West location that’s open in Ghirardelli Square and at the register asked for the same thing I did with the brain 🧠 washed employee and they did as every location nationwide has done, make a great sundae without argument or so called strict VANILLA ONLY rules, which I think is BS. That location the staff was swift, kind and to the point. Not sure which location it is in the address but it’s the one downstairs that had poor service and the one upstairs that had great service.
Who doesnt like chocolate? Even though we had our vacines, we till needed to wear our masks. I also think you can get more for your money at Costco. If possible stay to see the sign lit up. Its very impressive.
Easily seen from major road. Tourist trap, but it’s made for the tourists. Prices for the chocolates are $$$$$pensive. Buy your chocolate elsewhere. Place is clean. Location is nice. Staff weren’t friendly the day I went. They were busy restocking the bags of chocolate. Good place to check out but overpriced. Thanks.
Friend brought us here over the NFL finals....not to be missed! This place is a culinary and beverage cultural snapshot of those times by the man who came over from the old world bringing his expertise wherever he went. Amazing history (tlgw...too long; go wiki). This place has a certain charm to it. The coffee, mocha and ice cream here is amazing!
Nice supply of chocolate, but they will not let you sit inside without showing them your vaccination card! I asked them to show me their proof of vaccinations and they refused. Must be just horrible to have to live here in California. I will Not be back nor will I be spending any money in this state again! Needless to say I didn’t buy anything .
You dont just go to Ghirardelli when in San Francisco, you run there!!! Phenomenal Chocolates known the world over, great ice cream creations too, order from the To go, booth at the bottom of the hill no climbing necessary and eat your ice cream loveliness al fresco while looking at the Golden Gate Bridge, Aquatic Park and the Hyde street park / cable cars. Enjoy, Ghirardelli is a fun and needed stop when in San Francisco.
Ghirardellis is a quintessential stop in San Francisco and its worth the effort to check it out. We always go whenever were in the area. You can find all the famous chocolates for sale and some hard to find flavors as well. Theres a fun gift shop. And, they have a cafe. During tourist season it is crowed. But, the milkshakes, sundae, and coffee are delicious. You can sit a spell and people watch here and take a break from this great walking city.
Cute little area with limited shops and a few restaurants. Historic signage makes it interesting
Ghirardelli Square offers both a look back into history and a great place to enjoy what that name has come to be associated with: dessert bliss! My family really enjoyed the free samples that they were offering! It is an easy walk to the The San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park which offers a wide open expanse which is great to enjoy your Ghirardelli desserts while stretching out.It is also an easy walk to Fisherman’s Wharf which offers an endless assortment of stores to shop in.If you’re visiting San Francisco then this is one place you do not want to miss.
Not a review of Ghirardelli, but the area itself. Our car was broken into and items stolen while parked at the corner of Beach St & Larkin St, right beside the CVS. This happened between 7:30pm and 8:30pm on a Sunday during high pedestrian traffic hours! DO NOT ignore the signs all over San Francisco warning of vehicle break-ins and DO NOT leave any valuables in your vehicles for any period of time because thieves are on the prowl and watching tourists. Youve been warned!
Good to have it mostly back to normal on the insides after covid. We ordered a Chrissy Field sundae. We asked for 3 specific scoops, but communication failed and we had to ask for it to be corrected. Instead if just adding the proper flavor to the sundae, they threw it away and started a new one. Insane .
Good ice cream treats! Nice shops in the vicinity
They have other items i purchase good tasting ice cream by the bay in sanfrancisco enjoying the sights
Fun...not crowded during the week. Good product!
Great Hot Fudge Sunday. Nice outdoor seating area.
Excellent commendation during COVID-19! Friendly staff, willing to accommodate is best under the circumstances we face. You cannot go wrong visiting this place anything on the menu you order you will enjoy! Thank you to all the workers for the wonderful customer service, and continuing to have such a positive attitude.
A one time visit if you happen to be in San Francisco. The chocolate was nice and definitely an experience but missed the wow factor, question is will I go there again ? I would say definitely yes probably. I also got some chocolates for my family and friends which was awesome and everyone loved it.Why I probably wouldn’t go ? Price wise it is more expensive than the usual as it has the tourist label on it. Further, the long queues can be disappointing for the impatient. Cheers
I chose the frozen mocha. It’s nothing to Brad about. Takes like espresso blended with ice. Not worth $10Next time I won’t get a hot fudge sundae
Iconic location. Different collection of boutique stores. Well supplied, clean bathrooms. Too crowded for me just now.
One of the best places in San Francisco for those who like good chocolate. It simply makes you want to buy all the chocolates from the store. You can not choose just one, and the desserts served are perfect for a late afternoon with the wonderful views of the Golden Gate and San Francisco Bay. Love this place forever.
Fun, rich delicious home made ice cream and chocolate. Whats not to like. Friendly fast service and a bit expensive. Its in the Wharf area so expect to pay more. ParkingHard to find and expensive.
Super clean building and friendly staff. Great view of the bay.
If you are visiting SF you absolutely need to check out Ghirardelli Square! The square contains some lovely shops with unique items. The highlight of this experience is, of course, the ice cream creations at the restaurant. My personal favorites are the painted lady milkshakes. This is a delicious diversion that is great for the whole family!
Ok. As always, the ice cream and chocolate are wonderful. The place was busy, and when you walk in the entrance doors you walk right up to a row of registers. It is not a good set up.
Feel like going everyday. Must visit place
This place is popular mainly for the brand it carries. We stood in line for quite sometime n wanted a chocolate coated waffle cone with one scoop of ice cream only to learn they didn’t have any chocolate coated cone, it was absolutely frustrating that I’ve stood in line for so long and I didn’t get what was right on their menu. The ice cream taste good.
Always stop by here when I’m in town, just a nice place to chill when you have been walking all day. Usually a line out the door when you visit, but so nostalgic and great place to relax. Fast service and great desserts to choose from. Always something for everyone and a great place to grab some gifts for chocolate lovers for sure!
Walked in today 7/9 around 7:55 pm, the doors were unlocked. As soon as we walked in this tall Caucasian male came in yelling saying “No, no, no, no were closed you have to go upstairs.”He was EXTREMELY rude. If that was the case then lock the doors. He made a huge scene in front of everyone and we were just standing there shocked. Also, he let a lot of other people go in before us and randomly decided to not let us in. We will NOT be returning and don’t recommend anyone else return either. It’s the fact that he was super disrespectful that made me comment this.
This is the most famous chocolate shop in SF. This is also a must go stop when people view Fishermans Wharf. This store sells chocolate, ice cream and other dessert. They have seats inside and you can eat these. There are also plenty of gift options for you to give to your friends. They also have some machine showing the making process of chocolate which is informative.
We love visiting the Ghiradelli Chocolate Company! It has a beautiful view and CHOCOLATE! The first time we visited it was a pretty chilly evening so we bought a white hot chocolate and it was perfect. The second time we visited we got this delightful chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream dessert. We also bought some pricey souvenirs to bring back to our kids. I wish we lived closer to visit more often, but I dont think it would be good on my wallet or my waistline. 🤷♀️
Great tasting ice creams. Attentive and courteous staff. However, it may get very busy on the weekends. During spring 21, when the COVID restrictions are still in place, I waited for 35 mins in the line outside (sunny; chilly wind). But, it was well worth it.
One of the Best Chocolates i’ve tasted
It is a Little busy place, variety of ice cream and chocolate. I would recommend anyone to try hot chocolate and salted caramel. They also have a great selection of all Ghirardelli chocolate items and gifts for decent pricing.
Stop here for some great chocolate desserts!
Great place to visit when you are in SF. Went there for two hours just eating and drinking some ice cream and hot coco.
Totally decedent ice cream sundaes which the kids loved. Expensive ice cream and chocolate but really great quality.
I love the salted caramel hot chocolate. It also helps that the location is pretty nice too!
Beautiful place, with many options to eat or drink something.
When in Rome. 😎
Very busy but they got us through pretty quickly.
Ghirardelli never disappoints. You can taste the milk in the vanilla ice cream in the sundaes. Very rich. Their hot chocolate is also one of the best Ive tried on the west coast.
Pictures and words wont do this place justice. I was blown away by its beauty and scope.
It was really cool watching the chocolate making process. And the chocolate malt was to die for.
This is an Historic building that sells Confectionery treats. It use to make the Famous Ghirardellis Chocolates back in the day. Lots of Chocolate history here. The Chocolates arent the only delicious treats here, their Ice Cream desserts choices are Out of This World!
Long line but amazing ice cream!
So expensive, so much sugar, not even good ice cream...Seriously, $12+ for a sundae, which is unreasonably sweet and tastes like two cups I caramel... And that after 45min waiting in line under the sun... Im never getting ice cream there again
Chocolate! Always a perfect stop on the sightseeing tour🍫
Great ice cream but worse service ever! I specifically asked I could get a smaller size sundae knowing I would waste at least half of the regular size one and I was told know very rudly like I should know better then to ask. 3 days later we found a Ghirardellis in Monterey and they explained I could create me own sundae with just one scoop and my choice of toppings. Monterey ROCKS!!!
Paradise for a chocolate lover. Good place to buy chocolate souvenirs to take back home.
Great I think it tasted better this time because there was no wait time to order. Not my first spot I think of to get a hot chocolate but their Decadent Sippin Chocolate Is good, you have to bring your own chile peppers to spice it up not provided. Parking always available across the street from the parking garage entrance.
Somewhat long lines, but for good reason. The chocolate and other products are worth it, although store layout can sometimes be confusing.
Always fun to be here!!
Always a great place to go. Its all chocolate everything.
Great time for ice cream ...no lines or traffic 🚦⛔. Enjoy a delicious 😋 Sundae while looking at the Bay
This place offers so much selection of yummy sweet treats and plenty of souvenirs to choose from. Youll feel like your a kid again, just the scent alone makes you want to stick around forever. By just looking at the different items they have you know youll have a memorable time enjoying eating it.The place is very organized and staff are very attentive and friendly. Checking out is a breeze and place is observing social distancing, providing hand sanitizers in different location of the stores.
Amazing experience such a cute shop.
Who doesnt love this?
The sundaes are incredibly delicious (I had the espresso chip one). Its the hot fudge that makes them so great and Im not sure I would come here to just get plain ice cream (its good but didnt blow me away). The sundaes are expensive but huge, and I do wish they had smaller options- our group wasnt able to share due to different flavor preferences and a lot went to waste because a single person cant really finish one sundae. Still a must-go place for a hot fudge fan visiting SF.
We were visiting San Francisco and wanted some good ice cream. Went to this location at 11 am. There was no line. However, the cashier was EXTREMELY RUDE since we got to the place. She aggressively ask us to wear our masks (which I understood) but then her attitude got worse as we asked her about the menu options. The worse part? She was the manager of the place... or maybe she was lying about it. I am not sure. She seemed to be alone at the store. We decided to leave and call headquarters. But instead of fixing the issue, corporate just sent us a nice coupon. That didnt resolve the issue. That was definitely not the point. I wanted to make sure a situation like that didnt happen to anyone else! BE AWARE OF THIS LOCATION! DONT RUIN YOUR EXPERIENCE!
Awesome touristy place to walk around, try the free samples, and eat absolutely fantastic chocolate and ice cream deserts. This place has been around for years and recently revamped itself, so it’s much more attractive and clean. Overall, it’s a great place to hang our for a few hours and you can walk close to the water to see great views of the Golden Gate Bridge!
Super crowded with chocolate all around. They have display with actual machines demonstrating chocolate making process. We had a brownie and a icecream sunday. Icecream Sunday is too big for a person to finish and its too sweet. Brownie was nice chocolatey.
Buzzing with people with good chocolate and a cheerful environment
Amazing place and gift for your family.
My friends stayed here and loved it :)
Good lord!! Wow...ok NOT Calorie free...however....very tasty touristy spot
Best chocolate fudge in SFO.
