They had a Salsa post-lock adapter in stock (actually 2 of them) when nobody... and I mean nobody has these. Online order was easy and the pickup was available right away. Friendly staff on site when I arrived. This was a huge help in getting a regular rack on a recently purchased eBike without standard rack mounts.

I ordered the army green 4130 from State Bicycle Company. I took it to the crew at Valencia Cyclery to have it assembled by professionals. I took it over early on Saturday October 3rd, 2020. Cory and his guys assembled the ride that same day. I was so impressed with the customer service of all of the VC family in the shop and the showroom, that I also purchased a Brooks B-17 saddle for the my bike on the spot. I’m sorry I took so long to thank all you guys at Valencia Cyclery for the awesome experience of being a customer of your business. I’ve been a little too busy enjoying the ride you assembled for me! My thanks to you all is well deserved. I know where I’m headed for great service in the future. Thanks again, VC!

Their site says “same day service, just drop by” but when you do, they’ll tell you if you didn’t buy the hike from them, then they cant.I stopped buy just to diagnose a simple problem in brand new bike i bought online so I can report the issue. I was not even hoping to get repaired immediately or anything and willing to pay. But they spent so much time just asking us about all the other bike shops we should go to. The bike is stiff, how will i get to those shops? The lack of empathy and ethics for customer service is appalling.

I’ve been going to Valencia Cyclery for over 10 years. I’ve used their services to purchase a couple of bicycles, but where they’ve made the most impact for me is through their repair shop. Always super-thorough and honest about what my bike needs at the time it’s brought in. They are really fast and efficient (never have waited more than 3 or 4 days for a repair job) and the high level of expertise is obvious by the time my bike is finished. I went there knowing exactly what was wrong with my bike. But, since I bought it there I wanted to get a second opinion. They brought my bike in and 2 minutes later came out and told me something else was wrong. They told me my chain was worn out and my cranks were loose. But I knew that the real problem was that I had lost a few bearings out of the bearing cage for my bottom bracket. So, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and asked for a new chain and bearing cage. They said they couldnt sell me a bearing cage without taking my bike apart. ( Which I can figure out by eyeballing the bottom bracket) Also, they didnt carry cruiser chains. Only BMX. So I had to buy two chains. (Which were different designs, so made it a hassle to install.) So, after I go through all that, I go for a quick spin around the block. Guess what, same problem. Spent money I didnt have to and got something I didnt need. Now Ive got a chain with two master links. (Translation; two weak links) Im never going back there.

Update: The manager called me and sincerely apologized for the behavior described below. Apparently I was correct about not needing a pickup, so I ended up paying for a pickup that was unnecessary. Im still disappointed by this whole experience, but Im encouraged that the manager made an effort to contact me and ensure me that the employees behavior would be looked into.Previous review: Very rude and unprofessional experience with Bruce in the service department. I shipped my touring bicycle with Valencia Cyclery and was told over the phone ahead of time that I didnt need to pre-arrange for pickup, just bring a shipping label; they would give it to UPS next time they received a delivery. I thought this was a little strange but didnt question it because they specifically brought it up. After dropping the bike off, I called to check on status, and someone else, Bruce, answered and was inexcusably rude. He laughed at me when I told him what I was told about pickup, telling me that UPS rarely comes by anyway, and even if they did, he wouldnt give them my bike, and then flat out refusing to help, repeatedly saying, Thats your problem. I politely asked for his help to fix the problem, offering to pay whatever was necessary to get my shipment on its way, and he continued to get more and more condescending and rude, offering no help whatsoever, and specifically refusing to schedule a pickup with UPS on their account, even if I paid for it. I hung up with him and contacted UPS instead. In the end, the solution turned out to be a simple order placed on UPSs website for a reasonable price. All Bruce had to say was a polite, Oh you need to call UPS or go on their website and schedule a pickup. Instead, he chose to treat a customer like dirt and make an enemy. Do not reward this kind of attitude; dont go to Valencia Cyclery.

The manager of this place is a very rude person. He told us that if he was there when we arrived he would not have take our bike because it is a lost of money for him to repair it. He was judging us, asking why we choose to travel with this kind of bike and telling us we should not have take this one and that he could sell us good bikes to travel with. Finally they repaired our Rollhoff gears but did it wrong, we had to take the bike to another bike shop to fix it. He charged us way more that what they told us when we brought the bike (because there is 2 cable on the gear but they knew it before), telling us that the best mechanic of the city worked on it.... When we see the result I doubt a bit.//Update after the answer of Paul :I made a mistake in my comment, sorry about that. It is indeed the cables of the Rollhoff system that we needed to change. This is in no way unique because of our bike it is just a standard Rollhoff system and our shifts were reversed when we took our bike. But we couldnt realize it when we took it back because we could not pedal because of other issues.I dont blame Peter who was very nice and helpful to us. Everybody do mistakes that happen. That day I went, they officially closed 30 minutes after they shut the front door and the last customer walked out. That patience! Then they remembered me a few days later when I came to pick up the bike! Had a nightmare experience after taking my road bike here to get serviced. Took it in to replace rear shift cable, was up sold on their expensive major tune up. Long story short, they messed up the rear hub job, admitting they didnt do work theyd previously claimed theyd done, before trying to pass the blame to me saying it was my fault for bringing them a faulty part (after they happily took my $200). Despite a 60 day guarantee for their work, they wanted to give a partial refund for the part they screwed up to get rid of me instead of fix the problem. I had to basically force them to send it to the manufacturer who actually bailed them out and fixed it for free. For as much as I love to support local bike shops, I tell every and any cyclists not to take their bikes here.* Follow up to Pauls (owner) post below:What Paul fails to mention is that his mechanic recommended the $200 major tune up after noticing a small wobble in my rear wheel, and wanted to replace the bearings. I told him sure, Id also like the bottom bracket replaced, the wheels trued, and some other minor work, to go along with their recommended work of changing cables, etc.First, they did NOT replace the bottom bracket (I told them Id pay for the part), I have no idea why. My instructions were clear. It wasnt worn out, yet, but it had 10,000 miles and it was time for routine maintenance. It was like they were saying Yea... we just dont feel like it.Second, it was only after their mechanic went into my rear hub did it start having major issues. When I first got my bike back, it was making an awful groaning sound only for the mechanic to admit he replaced the wrong bearing. I brought it back, and they replaced the correct one. Same problem. Brought it back. Mechanic realize he used a steel bearing instead of ceramic bearings. Thats a really silly error for any competent mechanic to make. Check the parts you need, but problem still was not fixed. At this point, over a month had passed and Id traveled back and forth 6 times with my bike in worse condition than when Id brought it in -- it was inoperable. They admitted they were out of ideas, and the owner admitted that the mechanics didnt have the experience to handle the issue. They wanted to sever ties because, according to service manager Weve spent a lot of time on it. Too bad I dont pay you for your time, I pay you for your service, and if you dont do the job I paid you for, I want my money back (they guarantee service for 60 days on the $200 tune up). I told them first and foremost I wanted it fixed though, but they just wanted to give me $80 bucks to take it somewhere else. I didnt want to accept an inoperable wheel that they messed. They told me they were going to send the hub to the manufacturer, but called again to tell me they hadnt and werent going to, as theyd given it another look and couldnt figure it out. In short, they just didnt want to pay for shipping. It was only after telling them Id hold them fully liable for the damage to my hub that they sent it, and lo and behold, the manufacturer just replaced the hub with a refurbished one, for free. There was no manufacturing defect as Paul claims, hes just trying to spin a story.More than anything, Im just really disappointed with dealing with these people. Its not about the money, big picture $200 is not going to impact my life. What does, is instead of trying to do right by a customer, they figured theyd cut their losses (at my expense) and just try to get rid of them, quickly shifting the blame to me (as you can see below). I was very patient with them until this point. If you dont want customers to write bad reviews, then do right by customers. Im happy to pay for quality service and support a shop likely with small margins, but this is business and if you cant provide the services you advertise, then you shouldnt offer them, let alone take customer money. In all, I went back and forth to this shop 8 times, and didnt get a rideable bike back for 2 months. Take your bikes somewhere else.

Valencia is one of the busier and more popular bike hangouts in SF. I have had a number of experiences there, varying from excellent (I love the bike I bought) to confrontational (defective part discovered after warranty expired). I dont ride all that often -- about once a week.Soon after buying the bike from them I bought a mirror that was supposed to stick onto my helmet but didnt get around to attaching it for several months. When I did, it turned out to be defective, with the part that was supposed to by sticky missing entirely. By that time the 90-day warranty was out, but I was hopeful that since I had only opened the package the day before they might be somewhat sympathetic. They werent at all sympathetic -- never mind that it was clearly a factory defect!Recently the rear (disk) brake failed without any warning. I took it back to them and they diagnosed this too as a factory defect. But since it was out of warranty, they still wanted to sell me the parts and charge me for installing them. After some negotiation they agreed to install it for free.I have had maintenance performed on my bike twice. On both occasions I had to bring it back because it wasnt shifting between gears properly. At least, they didnt charge me for that! There are many employees and several of them have been extremely helpful. But you never know who youll get.I continue to go there, primarily because its a convenient location for me. Not having lived in SF for long, I havent yet found or heard recommendations for places that sounded better. So I guess Its okay.

Only glitch: riding the bike on the few blocks between the shop and my place, I realized the bike was probably a tiny bit too big for me.Came back the next day, they allowed me to try extensively the size below and the one I had bough originally to make sure I made the right choice. I ended up confirming that the smaller size was better, and they exchanged my bike without any problem. I really appreciated that!

Really helpful staff here in a laid-back, no pressure sales environment. I was really appreciative of the assistance I got selecting a bike (and then getting set up with all the accessories Id need).

Got a flat tire riding to work, so I stopped right in and got a flat fixed in under 10 minutes and just 16$. Would definitely recommend this shop to others!

I was traveling to SFO and shipped my bike to VC. I initially emailed them because they were close to where I would be, a Specialized dealer and had great hours. Even though my bike shipment to VC was delayed (no fault of VC), they still had my bike ready when I needed it! When my bike was shipped to them, it included my measurements. One of the awesome things I loved is when I picked my bike up from VC, the seat, handle bars, stem, etc. were dialed in perfect! No adjustments necessary! When my bike arrived at their shop, there was some slight damage to the box from shipping. They noticed my wheels were scratched. They took pictures, notified me (before pickup) and were concerned. They were prepared to file a damaged shipment claim! When I picked it up and saw what they were talking about, I told them it was my doing from a wreck a few months ago. They were busy on pickup and drop-off day, but were very helpful. Watching them interact with other customers, it didnt matter if the customer brought a beater or new bike; I watched them treat each customer with the same courtesy and service. Next time Im out there, they will be my go-to shop again!Long story short, they had great communications through the entire process/trip via email and phone. The build-up and breakdown for shipping was good. They seemed to have a good selection of bikes, equipment and supplies at the store. I watched them treated each customer with value and respect. And even though I was only there for pickup and drop-off, they treated me with the same care as some of their local customers (or they appear to be local customers). I couldnt have asked for a better experience!

Very busy, so even basic repairs take quite a while. Otherwise, decent prices and excellent service.

Awful place with incredibly unhelpful staffs having cold heart. I asked them to repair my bicycle; they charged around $200; it broke soon. Not recommended.

Bought a bike there and had a great experience: they didnt oversell, the selection was wide, and the prices were reasonable, either the same or lower than other locations and online. A positive experience.
