I bought a bike last year and knew nothing about maintaining it. When the squeaking got unbearably loud, I came here and Im glad I did! Not only were they the only bike shop with reasonable hours on a Monday, they replaced my chains, brakes, and freewheel with factory parts in the same day! Not only was it quick and affordable, but they also gave me some maintenance tips so I know when to lube my chain. Ill definitely be coming back here if I need repairs again in the future. Thanks!

Really want to like this place but the staff are so lazy and unhelpful. I have tried to buy a bike a few times, get service on my bike and just buy a couple of things but I have never managed. They seem friendly enough but are always too busy with their own stuff. Seems a pity as could be great

Came in from Denver with my friend, she wanted a new bike so we went to American cyclez. The folks were busy on a Sunday but spent time with us to prove that they were interested in our satisfaction and not a sale. This is a bonefide shop with extensive knowledge and options. Thanks for the sweet two wheeler. Happy trails yall ☺️

I went in this store and tried to buy a bike tire in this store. When I asked the employee, Can I get a 700c * 35 mm tire? the employee gave the tires that, in metric units, me a 37-622. I tried putting a 37-622 tire with an Araya 700C * 35 mm rim, but it was too tight. Instead of 37-622, I asked for a 35-622 tire, which is also 700c * 35. I dont know the answer. The bike shop looks cool, though.

I have nothing but great things to say about the guys at American Cyclery! They consistently do fantastic work, whether its a tune up or just adjusting a derailleur. Ive had a few experiences where they could have up-charged me on replacement parts, but instead, they saved me a few hundred bucks by just doing what was necessary. The owner is very friendly and seems to take a lot of pride in being a part of the community.Bonus points that they are a Campagnolo shop, for the few folks riding Campy. Even though they sometimes have new mechanics, they always seem to be well trained on how to work with the Italian stuff.

This is a really inspirational shop. A great place with a variety of bikes. Even the customers that flow through there have awesome bikes. The staff is very knowledgeable. I dont know of very many other places where I have been able to discuss specific bike setups and folks knew what I was talking about but could offer multiple suggestions from recent experience.

Im so impressed with these guys. I took my old (crappy) bike to them for a service. Couldnt spend much money, because hey... the bike is a junker. They told me exactly how much fixing everything would cost in advance and then basically told me that they didnt recommend it because the bike wouldnt be worth the cost of the parts added to it at the end. 1 point for honesty, right there. After that, they brainstormed solutions. We ended up pulling apart another bike I owned to raid it for spares; they only charged me for their labor to swap the bike over. 1 point for ingenuity. Another for service. Another for price.Great work and I can highly recommend them for expert service, honest opinions, and a great repair price.

I called American Cyclery to ask them about their process of receiving bikes, given social distancing. I have a chain that keeps skipping and hoped to drop it off at their shop today. I was told by the staff person on the phone that I can leave my bike outside if I did not want to come into the shop. I began to ask a follow up question but, as I was speaking, the staff employee hung up on me. I called back and the same person answered. I asked them why the call dropped and they started telling me how the shop was busy, followed by telling me that they “can’t fix my bike over the phone.” Had the staff person listened to my question, they would know I was not trying to have my bicycle issue diagnosed over the phone. I was only trying to ask about the process of bringing my bike into the shop, given COVID. As a cyclist who does not want their bike stolen, being told to leave one’s bike outside (in the Haight neighborhood) led me to want to clarify what he meant. I found their comment rude. I also found their hanging up on me, instead of telling me that they were busy and needed to go, rude. I know bicycle repair specialists are not required to be customer service specialists. There is a basic level of respect and communication, however, that can be expected when handling an inquiry over the phone. I will ask my cyclist friends what other businesses they recommend.

Super friendly staff. I bought a bunch of gear here, and went back a couple of days later because I couldn’t get one of my pedals off with my pedal wrench. I was going ask the guy behind the counter, who was working with someone else and who I talked to before, but one of the mechanics saw me waiting and walked out and asked if he could help. He took the bike back and popped it off in 30 seconds, no charge. This will definitely be my go-to bike shop from here on out!

I love this bike shop. Dan and Brad especially. Ive bought several bikes here and every single time I get service that is hands down, exemplary. They take their time, listen to what I need, and in all cases, found the perfect bike for me. My first purchase was from Dan (this man is patient!). I didnt know anything about biking and when waiting on me, he was completely dedicated to finding me the perfect bike, test rides and all. And when I took my SOMA back several months later for servicing and a fitting, in just a few minutes with some minor tweaking, Brad had me riding pain-free. These are men who know what they are talking about, know bikes like no other, love riding, and most importantly, treat customers with respect. Love American Cyclery.

The best. Dan knows I ride my bikes into the ground, kept my last bike rolling smoothly until I was ready for a new one. When I was, put me on a test drive that fit all my needs (and addressed complaints about my last bike [not from AC]) and Im happily riding it into the ground. I forgot about my discounted 6-month check up, rolled in after a year and was treated as though it was only 6-months anyway. All that and my last bike is still a great 2nd bike.

One of the guys working there is an angel - he adjusted the cheap Craiglist bike I had just bought (had a flat tire and some other issues) so that I could ride it 3 miles home. Honestly not sure what I would’ve done without him, and I will definitely be going to them for future tune ups, purchasing a lock, etc.

American Cyclery (specifically Brad, their vintage expert) does an outstanding job of matching and assembling vintage bikes. I brought in a Peugeot frame, Fiamme rims and Campagnolo drivetrain. They did a great job putting it together. I also bought a new Bianchi bike from American. Their prices are reasonable, and Brad understands the nuanced differences between framesets including which frame can handle which wheelset, threading, and the like. That may sound elementary but most bike shops are not familiar with the various gap widths of rear dropouts etc.

I dropped off my bike for some repairs, was told it would be around$170 + $30-40 in labor. When I picked up the bike I was presentedwith a bill for $480. NOT ACCEPTABLE. I dont trust these guysanymore, will never be bringing any of my bikes there again. Its ashame, so close to my house, I had looked forward to a goodrelationship with this shop, but given how they seem to spend my moneywith utter disregard, I wont be back. This could have been avoidedwith a simple phone call. Something like, Hey, theres a bunch ofstuff that is wrong with your bike that we didnt know about... Itsgoing to be much more than we originally thought...
