I wanted to replace the tires on my bike so I brought the bike down and asked them if they could tell me what the widest size gravel tire I could mount. They couldn’t, so I asked the very kind and helpful young man if I could buy three and return the one I didn’t use. He checked in with the mechanic the back and came back and told me yes.Tonight when I brought the tire back, unused and unopened, I was told that I could only have in store credit. Disappointed, I bought a couple of items and asked to speak to the owner or manager because I felt that this was not right. It turned out to be the same guy that approved the idea of the return in the first place, without mention of the store credit only policy.Good customer service, that brings many returns, would back up an employee misstep with a refund. But I think it goes to the level of dishonesty when the manager/owner? gives the go ahead and no mention of a store credit only policy is made. (Even if the policy is in the receipt that was emailed to me after the agreement was made)I could be wrong, it could have been an honest mistake, but bottom line is very poor customer service! My business will go elsewhere…

Had the most perfect bike ride around golden gate park and ocean beach! $25 each for all day (til 7pm in winter) including helmet and lock. Bike seats was uncomfortable after a few hours. Bikes were given to us without having any choice in it but they looked cute! However, we probably could of requested a more comfortable seat if we had known it was pretty uncomfortable. Either way, was a very good ride in a great location! Guys were amazing and friendly, even recommended a dinner place!!

I had a flat tire and needed some help. With the pandemic, so many shops are booked for weeks, and many are not open at convenient hours.These guys were kind, professional and available on a Monday morning.They were able to see me right away and give me two new tires within two to three hours.Ive already scheduled a tune-up in the next two weeks.Very grateful to find a professional shop like this in the neighborhood.

Went in today for recs on new handlebars, and upgrading my bike pedals. This is my second visit, purchased a bike seat from Swell last month. First gentleman, I didn’t catch his name, was friendly and made sure I had someone assist me with my pedal questions.Ron then assisted me, very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations based on what I was looking for, super friendly, patient and polite. I chose the MKS pedals, followed by having them installed same day. Alex installed my pedals immediately, and was very generous to give tips on caring for my fixed gear bike, very polite as well.Overall, I had a very great experience, and will continue to return for my bike needs. We rented a bike for the day, to cycle around Golden Gate Park, Baker Beach and the Golden Gate Bridge. Super awesome attention by the owner. Bikes were amazing. He provided a helmet and a bike lock as well.

Insensitive, Rude, and CheapInsensitive, rude, and cheap.I stopped into the shop mid-November with a heavy e-Bike in need of a tune-up. They told me I could make an appointment to drop off in a few weeks but would need to leave a $50 deposit. Despite the persons really bad attitude about my bike, about the current seat height (he spent 5 min telling me how tall it was even though I explained to him that wasnt the actual seat height), and theyre complaining about how bad UPS guys were (even though I handed them a UPS notice that they obviously had missed when they opened the door that day -- I told them its pretty hard for everybody in Covid) I decided to make the appointment and left the deposit.The week of the appointment, they kindly reminded me about the appointment ( I appreciated that) and so when I had to call and tell them I wouldnt be able to make it because I needed to take care of my 84-year old ailing father in law who had unfortunately contracted Covid, they were really understanding. (Thanks!) I then explained the missed appointment to my own father, he kindly went and got the bike and brought it to the shop to see if they could still fix it since I was going through a rough time.When my dad got there, they let him know that they had given the appointment spot away and that my dad shouldve called earlier (he was just trying to do a nice thing and surprise him.) I called them back to try and resolve and honestly, I think they were just embarrassed they had given my spot away, they complained about my dads mask (I wasnt there I dont know what happened on that one, but def dont think my dads bad about his mask, being that hes in a risk group himself) and then started to berate me about the whole thing. Listen Swell-dude, Im going through Covid I know how serious it is, no point in yelling at me.So theyve gone ahead and despite taking in new business, they kept my deposit, which I think is cheap, lazy, and not neighborly of them. Theres obviously some deep seeded insecurity at that place and Im bummed Ill never be able to use them. But listen theyre a small business and you may chalk up the above to a one-off (very well could be!) you should still give them a try. But anyone who talks poorly to caring for a sick person or to UPS guys/gals doing their jobs isnt anyone I want to do business with.Hope you enjoy my $50 deposit, Swell!

Great shop and amazing staff. I got here with a flat tire on a Saturday afternoon when why were almost going to close. They quickly took care of my bike, gave me great advises and kindly answered some questions i had. The shop itself looks quite supplied.

Employees are outstanding but the owner is unfortunately rude and unprofessional what a shame and I’m also a business owner and I would never even think of doing what the owner of this shop did to me very confrontational type will report to BBB and chargeback with bank stay away go to other bike shops down the street!

Went here as a walk in for brake adjustment. They took me right in and fixed it up right away, works great. Friendly, takes all forms of electronic payments.$15, 15 minutes, all good.

Really a great shop! Had my old school ball beating bottom bracket swap out with modern sealed bearing cartridge. They did it as walk in on a Saturday afternoon for $ 50 . Very capable, trustworthy, and economical. 👍🏻

Today (June 10 Saturday 2017)in the morning, me and my wife stopped by to get some adjusting of my kids bikes and one person, aproached me and started helping me out installing some nuts in the brakes and did it on the two bikes in less than five minutes I was good to go, he was friendly and accurate....I left some tip in the jar,... good job!! These people are amazingly friendly and helpful!!!!!

Swell Bicycles friendly, competent, over the top service saved our cycling outing yesterday! Not only did they unstick the chain on my bike after the chain came off the derailleur, they tuned up the gears and stopped the rear fender from rattling, too. All for $20 and in about 30 minutes. If ever you need help with your bicycle, especially near Golden Gate Park, I highly recommend this shop.

Family of four staying at AirBnB around the corner rented 4 bikes to ride through Golden Gate park and over the Golden Gate Bridge and back. The bikes were perfect. They showed us google maps how to avoid some MAJOR hills and gave advice on other local stuff to see and try.

Genuinely helpful, knowledgeable service. Practical and not too trendy. Very reasonable people, who have gone out of their way multiple times to be accommodating and useful. Definitely recommended.

Fantastic service. I broke my chain in GG Park and coasted to this shop. I was taken care of right away, and although the mechanic fixed my old chain, and didnt push me to get a replacement, I decided it was time. Nice work and not expensive.

Im a pretty knowledgeable bike person. I went in to this shop with a very specific list of things I needed. Instead of helping me get what I needed they gave a 10 minute recommendation shpiel. If I wanted a reco, I would have asked for one. Snooty a-holes at this shop as far as Im concerned. Overpriced also for the service provided - Ive had bikes tuned here and its a complete rip off. BUYER BEWARE!
