A nice place with great inventory and a friendly staff.

Needed a bike to get me to work and back with minimal maintenance, figured going to a physical bike store would be a lot better than online: being able to test ride, ask questions, have a place to go for maintenance, and this would be worth the bike itself being 1.5-2x as expensive as buying online. Wrong!Other than unlocking the bikes for me to test ride, staff was not helpful when picking a bike. The guy I talked to had one recommendation and really didnt seem interested in selling me a bike at all, which I dont expect him to be in any genuine sense, but man we all gotta do stuff we hate doing at work.Two months later I needed some simple maintenance, I was told to call back the next day to make an appointment two weeks out. Going to be finding another bike shop, because it seems like people who rely on their bike cant rely on bike connection.

I thought my front bike cable had snapped during transport from East to West Coast but the metal head was simply bent. The employees were very inviting and kind. They generously fixed it without charge. I will definitely be coming back.

I cant recommend this place highly enough. Theyre well staffed, both from the perspective of having enough staff and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly as well. Theyre so responsive and accommodating. Shop here!

I was having trouble sourcing the bike I wanted from the Palo Alto location. Ed at the Folsom location went above and beyond and got me the exact bike I wanted. He also worked with me on some specific requests even though he really didnt have to. I appreciate how he held his ground when I tried to drive a hard bargain but never lost touch with the customer service aspect of the business. That is a delicate balance which I think he handled graciously. I am really happy with my bike and that I got to support a local shop. I think the tuneup program they include with new bike purchases is a nice perk as well. I look forward to sending future business to TBC at Folsom. Thanks again Ed!

A neighbor recommended Bike Connection to buy my first bike. I was blown away at the personal, thoughtful service by Remy, exceedingly patient with my flurry of questions and concerns. Based on listening to my needs and fitness level, he recommended a Giant Escape 1, which has fit the bill (city street and Golden Gate Park rides). But then the follow-up visits have been just as good: fast, humble and courteous engagements with everyone in the shop, from sales to mechanics, who seem to drop everything if you come in with slightest question or fix, really. Bonus: BC has easy parking in front of the shop. Nice.

First review I had to write but maybe both parties (myself & bike shop) will reflect on bettering our experience. I made the difficult choice of returning a bike that I was very excited to purchase. To keep the review short and to the point. I returned the bike shortly after buying it because I felt purchasing the bike was intruding on their time.

One of the employees was trying to sell me a bike with a brake that makes very loud squeaky noise!I found this out when having a test ride, so I asked if there was another one with same model. He refused rudely, saying he was gonna get off from work. He also kept saying it’s normal to hear noise if you solely rely on one brake so this bike was completely fine.Then I found out there was indeed another one with the same size and model, but he had never mentioned it. He seemed really reluctant to fetch it for me, but I insisted I want that one. He then refused to let me ride it. The second bike looked just fine so I paid for it without actually riding it.It turns out the brake of the second bike was totally quiet! Thank god I didn’t hear what he said! I felt he just wanted to sell it a defected bike to me simply because I didn’t look like an expert.I give 3 stars for the bike I bought and for another senior employee who was patient explaining to us how to dissemble the front wheel, but I give 0 star to that guy.

This place was great, called asking for a part and they had it ready for me at the counter, super easy. Edit: went in today and they were kind enough to send me to a different shop because they didnt have the part instead of making me wait. 5 stars!

Such an amazing bike shop! As a female cyclist I have made some terrible experiences at some stores where I got treated disrespectfully or sometimes even faced overt sexism (a Mike’s Bikes store manager told me once that he wouldn’t sell me a mtb with 29’ wheels as they are “too fast for women”). In this store I have always been treated respectfully and the mechanics are very forthcoming. Repairs are usually done within one day with an appointment. I just wish they also had some female employees.

Excellent service and superb staff! Ed was very informative as he helped me pick my first mountain bike, the Marin Hawk Hill 1. As DIY person, I needed some advice during my fangled attempts at installing a dropper post. Jason was incredibly helpful and always had great advice. The makeshift wire tool he made me was indispensable in my internal routing attempts. All on all, a bike from Bike Connection comes with a lot more than just a bike. I am looking forward for the next visit.

Jimbo was extremely knowledgeable and a huge help! He was transparent about differences in bikes which was nice. They also have very large selection with multiple sizes which has been tough to find during COVID.

Disappointing experience. They did not adjust the bike before handing them to me. Fortunately, I was not injured after the rear tire and the handle bar came off within the first week.Poor costumer service too. Staff were not friendly either.

This morning, my roommate dragged me to The Bike Connection to pick up her newly purchased bike. What an experience. Jimbo is sunshine on a cloudy day, with bike knowledge that reaches beyond the horizons. His spirit and passion for all things bikes is beyond. He truly made our day, maybe even our entire 2021. We cannot recommend The Bike Connection and Jimbo enough. I look forward to future trips for all my biking needs.

I love this shop! My partner and I now each have a bike from them. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, though like at all shops theres variability. Remy is particularly great, and brings a depth of knowledge, attention to detail, and human care to his work. Well definitely be back here!

Jimbo - what can I say? What.a.guy. I picked up my newly purchased Marin Nicasio this morning and he was *the* guy. He helped me with the seat adjustment, the purchase of a lock and cable, and even gave my roommate a complimentary bell because of the sweet bell that my bike came with. If I could give Jimbo a 14/5 stars, I would. He catered to all of our needs and provided expert education on things such as securing our bike locks to prevent thefts.I will be purchasing all future bike needs from The Bike Connection.

Excellent rental bike that was thoroughly checked and adjusted before rental (full-suspension mountain bike, you got to choose pedals etc.), good service.

I originally bought a brand new aluminum frame bike from them a few years back. The thing worked great and lasted a few hundred miles before a ham-handed theft attempt rendered it unusuable (hugely-bent frame, cracks and holes in multiple places).Aluminum, it turns out, is hard to weld and once the bike looked like mine did, it gets pretty unsafe to ride around on. As bikes are my transportation, grocery shopper, and general exercise machine, I had to get a new one.Gregg was the only one in town who offered me trade-in value for it! Snagged a newer, better bike and havent looked back.They were also pretty good with my initial purchase, too! Got to take my time in the store fretting over u-locks, helmets, and testing various cycles.Good store overall!

[UPDATE: Aug. 18th] The owner Gregg got back to me offering refund and help with any additional costs related to damage. Weve agreed the refund would be enough. He was very polite and made sure the refund was processed right away. It is unfortunate weve got this issue with the boxing service, but the way Gregg has handle the situation have changed my mind on my review.Im giving this review based on the terrible experience when requesting boxing service for BikeFlights, paying a huge amount of money for that and after sending my feedback, dont receive any response, not even to question my feedback. This is a terrible customer service experience.Unfortunately the service for boxing was extremely poor which led to damages to my bicycle. Its unfortunate to pay $100 for packaging a bike in a simple box and receive it in this condition (see box pictures). According to my bicycle shop, the package was totally damaged because there were no protections on the wheels and the frame was totally lose inside the package which led to holes in the box and scratches in the frame.Im not much worried about the bike because its a simple single speed one and quite cheap, Im frustrated to have paid $100 (almost half of the price of the bicycle) for packaging services with you guys and to have provided all the pieces of protection that were given to me by my bicycle shop in St. Louis when I shipped it to San Francisco in the beginning of the year and still receive it on these conditions and without the required protection.

I think my experience may have been an outlier based on other reviews. I payed them $100 to build a bike that was shipped to them brand new in a box. When I asked what the build includes, they were not forthcoming about what they actually did. I rode the brand new bike home and both derailleurs were skipping and crunching like crazy, it was barely rideable. Turns out the chain had a bad link and they somehow didnt catch it. If they gave the cranks even one turn they should have caught it as soon as the bad link went through the derailleur. I was surprised by the carelessness. I would have happily just bought a new chain from them if they told me about it.

Bike Connection did a fantastic job fixing my bike. Quick turn around (under 72hrs). Replaced spokes, trued wheels, fixed derailleur, tuned and cleaned my bike for all about $100. I’ve paid more for less at other shops is SF. Will definitely be coming back.

Bike oasis in SOMA w great service

I am completely dissatisfied with the ordering department. I lost the through axel for my Giant revolt 2 and needed a replacement. Giant advised me to call a local Giant retailer, which Bike connection is. Long story short, the ordering department forgot to place my order not once time but twice. I called another local bike shop for assistance and my axel will be here in four days. Im a fan of buying local and helping local businesses but the bike connection has lost any future business from me.

These guys are competitively priced and can do jobs in real-time that other shops are booked out weeks in advance for.Not only this, but the people working on your bikes are cyclists, empathetic, and highly skilled.Love this place

Went to this store the guy with the glasses was so rude not helpful at all had an attitude and rushed us out the door. Asked him a question and he basically ignored it. I felt uncomfortable on how he was treating me. Not coming back here again

Unprofessional and negligent service. I bought a new bike from them, and the derailleurs and brakes werent put together properly. I had to take it to a proper mechanic for tuning and cost me $60. The brakes were so poorly assembled that they failed during stress test which is scary. In addition, they botched the delivery process. At first attempt, the called me up in the morning saying it will be delivered in an hour. Then they forgot the delivery.

Awesome shop, really beautiful. And the staff are seriously great. I brought in my cargo bike not really knowing why the rack was wobbling and they tightened all the bolts and screws for me, which included replacing one of the missing bolts. I mentioned that I didnt have much in my account and the man helping me told me not to worry about it. I love this store already. Ill definitely be back.

I came all the way from Canada for the escape from Alcatraz triathlon! I am an experienced triathlete except when it comes to bike maintenance. This shop had the most professional, knowledgeable and sweetest employees. I never write reviews but they truly deserve this one! They have helped me on the spot with all my bike needs this whole week in San Fran, truly recommend their shop to anyone!! O man o man. This place is awesome! Honest and comprehensive bike maintenance performed. They did a great job reviewing the options for modifying my fixed gear and recommended the cheaper option in the end. Would totally rec to anyone from beginner to experienced. They do not talk down to anyone (i was listening to other conversations with random people walking in). Awesome staff!

I bought a road bike here and visited the store at least once very everyday in the first week with a ton of questions, minor fixed, accessories returns and exchanges. Top shelf, full service bike shop on the NW corner of 7th and Folsom. Bought a (relatively) lower-end bike here and am receiving one year of service with it. Came back to buy a seat and got it installed free of charge too. Employees are knowledgeable and friendly, highly recommended.

What a great little shop! I went in just needing to get a new bolt to hold my bikes seat in place and was blown away by the individualize service I got from the second I walked in until walked out. I was immediately acknowledged when I walked in, he obtained what I needed, and even took the time to adjust my seat for me before I left. Not to mention the fact he made sure to go get my dog a treat before doing anything for me, which totally won me over from the start! Dont shop or get repairs at any major chain retailer when you have local gem at your fingertips!

In general, this is a nice store in a nice location with nice staff and good selection. However, theres a vague feeling of salesmanship that goes on that feels a little counter to the friendly neighborhood bike shop feeling. I had pitlocks installed, and one of the sales points was that I could move them between bikes if needed. Instead, they ended up throwing my old components away, so I wouldnt be able to do that. While installing them, somewhat frustratingly, they adjusted my road bike seat completely by eyeballing it, which made me feel like I should have my bike refitted. More frustratingly, they didnt tighten the seat enough, and it fell while I was in the middle of riding my bike! Overall, mixed feelings!

They only let in a few people at a time, on street parking, i had my bike on rack I didnt go in, because I didnt want 2 take 2 long, that naborhood XXX

Get your bike tuned here.This store is great! I have been here a few times and each time the customer service has been exceptional. You can tell that the staff here really love their jobs, kudos to the management here. I refer my friends here for tune-ups and what-not. The next bike I purchase will be from here because I know that the staff will be super honest about what I am buying.

Had to schedule my tune-up 2 weeks in advance, when I brought my bike in the day of the tune-up they told me that it was too late in the day and Id missed my appointment. When I tried to tell them it was not communicated to me that there was a cut-off time for the appointment, an older gentlemen got in my face and started yelling at me, then he proceeded to try to put a tag on my bike to take it in for service. I told him not to put the tag on because I wound be getting my bike serviced elsewhere. I guess when you have a 2 week backup for bike maintenance, you dont have to be nice to customers. I dont blame them for me missing my appointment, but Ive never walked into a business and had someone get in my face and yell like that.

Coming in, I was bracing myself for the upsell and negotiation to use their wrench to align my wheel, which was rubbing against the frame. Without any hassle, the technician grabbed my bike and fixed it for me for free. Id love to see this shop succeed because of this attitude. Thanks for the quick fix!

Great customer service. Went in because my chain was slipping and they put it up on the bike stand quick. Fixed it at no charge and got some good bike talk with the manager. They algo caught that i was missing a brake pad and fixed that too . thanks guys made it home safe

Today, I was asking about the prices of bikes. The service attendant was rude and tried to get me off the phone because I was asking about terminology of the bikes. I thought that extremely unprofessional.

Great place to rent a bike for a couple hours or the day. Very friendly service, great shop and bikes were in fantastic condition. They also have a number of routes mapped out in the shop. Helped us get on our way to a great bike tour of the city.

I honestly expected better service from a 4.9 star business. I had some glass in my tire and brought my own replacement tube to the store to get some advice. Next thing I know Im getting charged for a tube replacement when I couldve done it myself. Thats not even the worst part! When I arrived home, I noticed that my tire was flat AGAIN. Took my bike back to the store to get ANOTHER tube replacement, as I thought maybe I had gotten another puncture from there being glass left in the tire... only to find out that the guy doing the tube replacement never replaced the tube in the first place. He took out the punctured tube to only PUT IT BACK IN. And the fresh tube that I had brought in was still sitting on the counter. WHAT A ROOKIE MOVE AND A WASTE OF MY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. 4 hours of back and forth to the bike shop and waiting around for someone to help me.

Very bad service, I just went to see the electric bikes that they had for sale, and I decided to go on my old electric bike, when I got to the place an employee came out and told me that they couldnt fix my bike because they didnt accept that brand, but I never asked for repair, I wanted to buy a new bike, basically my conversation with him was a few words: -Hi, how are you, -We DONT FIX THAT KIND OF BICYCLES HERE, -I dont need a repair, -NEXT, BYE. horrible service, I will never return to that place

Excellent bike tuneup and repair service for my commuter bike. Done at a low price without any upsell. I also appreciated the advice from the expert mechanic how to maintain my bike myself. Highly recommended.

I was looking to buy a bike that was made and assembled locally and Marin ended up at the top of my list. The staff at their factory store were knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. They answered all my questions and let my brother and I take several test rides. I ended up going with a 2011 model that had been marked down from 1k to 650 and I absolutely love it so far.

Walked in with no appointment or heads up phone call hoping to get my seized crank arm off my SC Hightower. Jason, one of the mechanics stopped what he was doing, put it in the stand and after a few tries with some tools that I definitely dont have at home, he busted his circle grinder out and with a bit of reassurance knowing that the crankarm + BB would not be reused, he went to town and got it off in no time. Excellent service. Thank you again!

I always have a great experience at Marin bikes. Ive bought my bike here and have always thought I needed to pay for the issues Ive had and they always show me and fix the problem. Love these guys! They are always so polite. I have zero skills when it comes to understand the lingo to describe the problems I experience with the bike. They walk me through it and find the issue right away. The location is easy to find, right there on the corner of 7th and Folsom. If you gotta wait for a bit then go across the street and hang out at Site Glass and enjoy some great coffee.

I bought a bike from the shop today and Robert did everything he could to get the bike, lock, and anti-theft compenents I wanted into my budget. He was super flexible and overall an honest, knowledgable guy. Im so happy with the price I paid and Im pumped to ride my new bike around SF! Highly recommend these guys!

I had a horrid experience shopping at this store yesterday. One of the attendees said I should leave if I wasnt seriously planning to buy a bike after just arriving to the store. He said they werent interested in people just browsing and that if I wanted to do that, I should browse their selection online. Id never come back to this or any branch of this store ever again.

Hired a road bike for the day, great customer service, good local knowledge (more than just the tourist routes!), so Ill definitely be back next time Im in town.
