I would personally stay away from using this company - read the reviews on various sites for reference. My experience moving from CA to MN was not a pleasant one with this company and I cannot recommend them.However, my experience with this particular smart box location in MN was positive. Got a call the day of drop off, the drop off and picked up took place as was scheduled. All my belongings were safe and exactly how I had packed them. The staff was nice and prompt - I was satisfied with the MN staff and appreciated their professionalism.
Terrible! Smart Box leaked and ruined my furniture. Smartbox takes no responsibility and told me that since the box was at my home being loaded it is not their responsibility. The minimum requirement for a storage container to move is that it is dry. I never leave reviews but I think people need to know
Moved from CA to MN and was much cheaper than every other pod shipping service. I worked with Gwen and she was very helpful and kind. Answered all my questions expertly and even emailed with me at 9pm on a Friday when I needed to switch my delivery plan.Customer service line sometimes had a long wait and there is no way to get directly in touch with the rep you worked with or the local shipping offices which I found a bit frustrating. There was also an issue with a last minute reschedule of when my box would be dropped off to pack. This is when it is frustrating to not have direct lines to local shipping offices, but the local dispatcher in NorCal gave me his personal # and helped find a rescheduled date that worked for me. A bit stressful but it all worked out.Boxes are wood, but sturdy and nothing broke! If you’re moving cross country and looking to save some money on your move, this is a great option.
STAY AWAY! LIKE SERIOUSLY. Booked a storage unit last week and received an order confirmation email with all the details of the order as payment confirmation. Started trying to call them on Monday at 10:00 in the morning and after three requests to get a call back and sitting on hold for over THREE hours I finally got a call back at 8:00 PM only to find out that the booking “did not go through” and there was essentially nothing that they could do. I couldn’t call a local location and was told to email them. I sent an email explaining what happened and didn’t even get a reply. Now I’m stuck without a storage solution for my move this week. Smart box is NOT the smart choice!
PAULA from Virginia is an absolute GEM! A customer service person who can read minds! She should get a raise! Helped me out when I needed it most by re-scheduling a pick up when we were in a pinch! So very grateful!
I was really happy with the whole process. The boxes were delivered on time and the communication was good. The only reason that this wasn’t 5 star was when I called to have the boxes picked up after we unpacked, they told me it would be a week. It ended up being 8 days. Thankfully my neighbors were understanding. Would use them again though!
Stay away from this company! We rented two storage units and had them stored on our driveway. The units were in a very bad condition and barely closed. Needless to say, they got infested with mice over winter. A lot of our items got damaged, including a mattress. We filed a complaint several months ago and still didnt get a response. The driver who picked up the units was extremely rude. When we refused to remove the mattress half eaten by mice, he threw it in the dumpster that didnt even belong to us. Throwing anything but building materials in a dumpster is illegal. He also raised his voice and refused to give me his name. We will be filing a complaint with a local government agency and BBB.
Using a Smartbox was one of the best decisions we made while preparing to put our home up for sale! We took a couple of weeks to load the box and had it delivered to our new house. Everything about our experience went smoothly!
Great service, we rented two storage cubes and it fit all of our grange stuff while the new one was being built. Drop off and pickup were easy!
Highly price and not convenient. Need something from your box? Call a national switchboard, which will then contact the locally owned Smartbox (different ownership), and you make an appointment through a middle-person for a specified time, and you hope an appointment is available. Can you provide me with the phone number of the local, privately owned Smartbox business that is storing my stuff? No, you have to tell the national company what the issue is, and they will pass it along and have the local company reach you on their schedule. Can I come out one evening this week after work to get something from my box? No. It is closed at 5:00 p.m. But what if I cant make it before then, I work? Thats the way it goes. If you want a company to pick up and drop off your stuff for a short storage period between moves, maybe its okay. But longer term with the opportunity for convenient access to your stuff, a real pain. Oh, and after I began storing my stuff with them, the company MOVED to a different location, about half an hour further from my home. Great.
Everything turned out well. I packed the boxes tight so nothing could shift. It is not cheap to store the boxes, but you are paying for the convenience. I could either rent a storage unit and haul my stuff to the storage location or load storage on my driveway. I chose convenience.
DO NOT USE--Worst customer service ever. They delivered us back or Smartbox illegally because of winter frost road restrictions and then it sat on our driveway for a month and 1/2 because then they couldnt pick it up because they were fined. They charged us for those months of storage even though it sat in our driveway empty because they couldnt pick it up.CROOKS-- I probably should call the State of MN Attorney General and tell them about crooked billing practices and driving illegally on restricted roads.
Very good experience, driver very nice guy.
Boxes are very beat up, and cant even lock one of them because of the bracket missing.Also told to call a couple days in advance for pickup of the box, but they were too busy and had to schedule 2 wks out. So now our boxes will just be sitting in the back of an unsecured empty house waiting to be picked up.
