The Waverly Diner is a NYC staple. Just down the street from Washington square, this classic diner serves up all day breakfast, coffee, and an impossibly thick menu of everything else you could think of. Honestly, sitting at the Waverly and gabbing with friends and/or family before or after a stroll through the neighborhood is what New York is all about. Reasonably priced, give this place a try if you’re nearby and you want a classic New York City afternoon.
The Waverly Diner is highly recommended by New York Magazine and, despite its dark interior, the Waverly has a welcoming and homey feel. The food is good and served in generous amounts. For an affordable price you can eat an entire meal including meat, potatoes, soup, salad and bread. The service is also very good and the staff make you feel right at home.
Oh I wish! Was excited to make it “my diner”... when looking over the menuOn my phone.I was so impressed that I got out of the apartment and walked there to dine in.Maybe it’s COVID times... but one chef, limited menu and precooked food was not impressive.Below average.Something about diners located on avenues...
I actually really liked the Waverly Diner. The waiter was super nice and friendly. Yes, they do check for your vaccination card.
The Waverly Diner has a Top 20 Diners in America banner from Time Out banner hanging on the wall. They deserve it. Truly magnificent place. I rolled in after midnight after a long day and they were incredibly kind. Served a cold beer with one of the best breakfast sandwiches of my life. Service was wonderful. The place was clean, well organized, and well run. My Lyft driver said “Waverly huh? Bet your meal was perfect?” He was right. It’s been weeks and I still think about the breakfast sandwich.
Asked for a BlT on a roll salt pepper ketchup Mayo.Got some hard roll untoasted, everything on the side.11 dollars ya must be crazy.Says top 20 diner in USA, possibly correct only correction would be top 20 worst
I wish I can put 5 stars for this place cause the food is good !!! Really good !! But my experience is all ruined because of the outdoor space ! I sat here outside when it was freezing cold, and there’s only 5 tables available, and no heaters to keep the place a bit warm, even bundled in huge coat and hat and gloves and scarf it wasn’t comfortable at all eating a cheese burger that became cold and the fries became cold ten minutes after the waiter brought it out ! How do you expect us to enjoy a cold meal ? I’m referring to the owner who is very cheap to install a heater outside. With no heater outside and only 5 tables, how do you expect to bring Business?? Sitting there in freezing cold evening was torture!!and to add salt to injury you charge us card fees on the bill ???? Really ??? The owner is really CHEAP!Won’t be going back again!
God awful food. You can find the same price a block down for way better and quality food. The service is terrible too! Avoid!
Overpriced diner masquerading as a restaurant. It does take credit cards (ten dollar minimum). Classic diner menu items cost several bucks more here than at other similar establishments in the neighborhood. For example, your nine dollar tuna sandwich will cost one dollar and some change more if you want a slice of cheese and six plus bucks more if you want a side of fries. That said, some dishes are better quality, like the sausage. Breakfast dishes are charmingly served in a pan.
Great NYC Diner. Great staff. Felt like I was eating at a friends house.
Good food, a little on the expensive side. I ordered an egg sandwich and a coffee to go and it cost me $14.
If i could zero stars i would. idk why this would ever be featured in a magazine. the food is so bad!!! not worth it. just go to gracies lol or all of the amazing food places in west village
Once again becoming the best at what it was! It’s taken years to recover since their total renovation, but finally this diner is returning to its roots as my favorite Diner in New York City.
Coming here for 35 years. Still great.
Been going to this place for 20 years, hasnt lost his touch,! still fantastic place to go
Mediocre food and service, not much more to say. The aesthetics are okay.
Nice Dinner with a quiet atmosphere The Pastrami sandwich was great along with the steak fries. Great service. Will return.
Such a classic New York diner. Delicious corned beef. Delicious soup. Delicious classics. So fun to come for dinner!
I want to say an incredible thank you to the two men working here at 2/28 at 22:18. My friend and I ran inside because a man was following and harrassing us. The two employees here helped us and let us sit down for a few seconds until the man walked away. Thank you very much for making us feel safe!
Good food and staff. Overpriced for a diner but it IS NYC.
Great food friendly service. Id be back any day...
The food is fresh and delicious the coffee is amazing we been waiting for this Diner to open it was close for a year, now finally open, can’t wait to go back and enjoy the pancakes 🥞 and coffe .
This restaurant has a security guard, present at 11 AM on a weekday when I visited, who just stands right at the door like a bouncer hovering right next to several outdoor tables. No clearer sign that this diner has given up on the city than that, not to mention that he creeped my girlfriend out. Take your business somewhere that believes in New York.To be clear, low rating not due to food. Would return once they stop insulting the city.
Terrible food. Just do yourself a favor and choose another diner
A place with magic charm. It feels like being in an episode of FRIENDS. An piece of old New York that should be cherished and preserved. Plus the food is great! Love the Waverly Diner.
Slow but working West 4 Area.
Great classic diner in the village. Speedy and attentive service accompany delicious selections. You can never go wrong with this place!
Who doesnt love a diner? Despite living in the are for 10 or so if the last 20 years I always get a kick out of the diner scene in the west village. Its just not what you think of when you think of eating out in the area. Do it though. You cant beat that nostalgic feeling.
I love diner food. They did not disappoint.
The waiters was very nice, but i have to give three stars. I ordered the Veal sandwich and it was cooked to long because the veal was hard. Sorry I had to do this. Seems like a really nice place.
So great to eat inside! Love the food presentation and great service!
Very cute and intimate
During the day the patrons are old women who are keeping their weekly brunch plans with their girlfriendsat night this is the single greatest spot for people watching.i once saw a man fall asleep sitting up, fork in hand, over a plate of nothing but mashed potatoes. we sat next to him for an hour and he was still asleep when we left.i watched four middle aged women (coated in glitter) motorboat each other on a wednesday night.i listened to a drunk woman explain the difference between a cobb salad and a greek salad to a greek waiter for 25 straight minuteswaverly diner is in the perfect spot geographically, where they get the human runoff from washington sq park, the greenwich village, and houston street all at once. this unholy trifecta results in the most complex and exhilarating displays of human behavior available. its not so much a restaurant as it is a theater.the food is p good. diner food.
The Monte Carlo was terrible. The cheese cake was more like cream cheese whipped cream.
Nice place. Food was good and it was for a good price. I definitely recommend!
Classic NYC diner institution. Diverse & affordable menu.
One of those true old New York City diners!
Ordered some food was amazing cant wait to sit down in the place. People are wonderful and maintaining during rough times. Love the food but mostly the atmosphere surely miss it.
So I have been going to this diner for a very long time. I love the food and staff however Im annoyed with how the charge you a credit card fee when im there spending like 75 bucks on two people in a diner. I was also disgusted with how the other night Dec 15,2020 a super cold night no heaters were outside. All the restaurants in that area had outdoor heating when the spaces are much larger then the waverly Diner. Our food god cold in minutes and they had the nerve to charge a credit card fee as well. I think that wrong on so many levels. The owner needs to step up and do the right thing for people are still supporting the diner. I understand they have lots of take out deliveries but they alone need to be courteous to the people who are still going there. If it wasnt for Freddy the amazing and sweet waiter my friend and I were going to leave. I love the diner but doubt I will he going and freezing my buns off to eat there. BUY SOKE HEATERS AND STOP CHARGING CREDIT CARD FEES. EVERYONE IS STRUGGLING BE NICER TO YOUR SUPPORTING CUSTOMERS BEFORE YOU DONT HAVE ANYONE AT YOUR DOOR!!
We need more places like this. It’s not fancy it’s old style with booths and tables. It doesn’t have “Artisan bread.” The waiters are nice and Its got a familiar menu. I had a delicious vegetable omelette and toastNext time I’ll get a grilled cheese, with a tomato and fries. Once you’re there you’ll know it’s going to be good without even seeing the menu.I’m going on my birthday in a few weeks.
Great breakfast. Fantastic service. Get the 2 egg special. Very affordable.
The menu says breakfast or lunch anytime of day. I first thing I ordered, a baked potato, & the waiter tells me not until after 11:30AM!?! I didnt bother to choose again. I finished my beverage & left
Excellent find. Started off my birthday there with breakfast. It’s just scrambled egg, how do they make them taste so darn good. Hash Browns we great too. Polite efficient staff. Do yourself a favor and stop it.
Basic decent dinner. Excellent service. Prices way too high.
Great place, great food, the waiters very nice, good prices, I’m gone return there for sure!!
The staff was friendly and observant. Food is like a restaurant in Jacksonville I loved.
I have been eating here since it first opened. It’s one of New York’s hidden gems. Lively, great service, traditional diner food served exactly to tasteI love it, my family love it, my friends love it. Please never close
Been going here for 27yrs..& the service ambiance & food is still out amazingly Great!
Great spot to unwind after parting with your side piece. The food was great for what was ordered and came quickly. Just note that at 3:30 am all the nice reviews about the atmosphere are void. Lots of interesting alcohol infused characters stumbling in but ready to eat!
The food is great here and the service is top notch. Well worth a try, youll be glad you did.
Delicious food! Very large menu. Friendly service!
Wonderful diner food!
Too expensive dry food
The line stretched to the door, but moved fast; we had a table for two in about 15 minutes. Service was friendly. The meatball sandwich with mushroom gravy was tasty, but on the very small side, and without any sides, making the value poor. I ordered fries which were wedge cut, and a standard side dish portion. Coffee was good, but served in a rather small mug. We asked for, and received, refills at least 4 times!
For the past 20 years, Waverly has been my go-to diner in the Village. The staff is always fast and friendly. The portions are generous, and you always get an onion ring with your deluxe burger dish. Its a great spot for a filling meal after a late class, a big breakfast after a night out, or a late night case of the munchies. Its also a great place to take out of town visitors for an easy meal.
Good old breakfast food in the middle of an ever changing city
Oh I love me some Waverly Diner. Been going gear for years. The menu is vast, never disappoints, service always exceptional.
A good neighborhood diner with decent prices (in NYC!) and good food. Im not alone in my assessment, because it is never empty (and thats a good sign). Also, it is right by the subway which makes it a convenient place to grab a quick bite once you arrive at (or are ready to depart) the Greenwich Village area.
A long-time Greek diner located in the West Village. The food is very good. The portions are more than adequate and is always fresh. Seating can be a little tight. It is pricey even for a Manhattan diner and I cannot justify paying a high tab for diner food. Definitely worth the visit if you dont mind waiting during peak hours.
The food here is phenomenal. Delicious and with large portion sizes, coming to The Waverly is a wonderful indulgent experience. Also, when I am feeling more diet-conscious, there are low fat and/or low carb options available. There is a full bar, which can be great if youre in the mood for mimosas with brunch or a glass of wine at the end of the day. The atmosphere is cozy and downright charming with what must be original fixtures that are now vintage. The servers are genuine and attentive, making sure your needs are met.
Great diner for a diners sake. Awesome late night hours. Since the owner is Greek, I ordered the moussaka. It was a good large portion, but not blown away.
Place open 24/7, good food and they do have a pretty good seating area. Bottle goes for about $30. Area is pretty safe, plus you have several convinience stores around, some selling flowers.
The food here is great and the service was wonderful. Will order from Waverly again soon. Try out some of the other items on their menu.
This is place is just what you need after a long walk through Greenwich Village. Near the subway right on the corner and has all the food you love. Breakfast all day or just a simple BLT and a diet Coke. Very friendly staff.
