They have grits here! And they were good! Somewhat chunky, but otherwise with a thick yet gritty consistency that almost made me forget I was north of the Mason Dixon Line. What a great find! I needed to add salt & butter, but so delightedly surprised to discover such tasty grits in Manhattan!Service was attentive, as I typically drink a lot of water. Our coffees were continuously topped off. And, at no point did we ever feel rushed. We were offered two different open tables, our orders promptly taken, and our food swiftly brought. Great breakfast prices for Midtown, as well.

A typical American diner, offering a lot of choices. Only been here for breakfast & that’s the only thing I’d recommend it for. The French toast is delicious! $2.50 for real maple syrup is a little much in my opinion especially when you are served it without asking. And the glass jar it comes in tiny. Free refills on decent filter coffee!

Great food! Great staff! We eat breakfast/lunch there most days when were in NYC (4-5 months a year). Coffee and water are prompt to arrive and speedily refilled. My personal favorite is Greek yogurt with strawberries, blueberries, walnuts and honey. And they are one of the few places in Manhattan to offer grits as an alternative for potatoes. Its also a fine place to go for a burger (or BLT, or chicken sandwich or...) and a shake. Extra thick chocolate is my choice. For those not into milkshakes, the quality of the wines and liquors is exceptional for a coffee shop. I dont know much about beer, but Id bet what they have is better than youd have guessed.Try them. Youll leave happy.

Food wasbelow average. $22 for 2 eggs, toast, potatoes, coffee, and orange juice. The $5 “Fresh Squeezed” orange juice i witnessed being poured from a store bought gallon jug. Not fresh squeezed. It lists $8.99 for the two egg breakfast, unclear that it was $4 to add the bacon. Said on top that coffee is included before 11. I sat and at 1030. Paid my bill at 1110. Had to pay the $2.50 for coffee. There are so many substantially better values at much better quality near by. Its NY city!!! I cant imagine any local frequenting this place. Survives on poor unsuspecting tourists.

The food was very good. The Eggs Benedict was flavorful and there was plenty of it on the plate. The English Breakfast was good, too, though the mushrooms were bland. Service was great, too. Im not sure why Google has only one $, though. It must be relative to the rest of Manhattan as it was still expensive for breakfast. And potatoes and what not are all extras for the Benedict. Dont come here expecting to find an inexpensive meal, just a good one.

I’m 8 months pregnant and my husband and I came in at 7:30am on a Tuesday. The restaurant was dead. The waitress tried to seat me and my husband at a table which has hard chairs. My husband politely asked if we could be seated at a booth since the seats are padded and do not bother my back which is in a bad state right now. The waitress flat out refused and said “these are reserved for large parties” so I asked to see a manager hoping that someone would come to their senses! There were at least 3 empty booths and you could easily just push tables together to accommodate larger groups! The manager said the same thing!! “We reserve these for large groups”- are you kidding me?!! I was so disgusted with them and the smell in there that we left and went a block away to Flame and had a pleasant breakfast. Please don’t support these type of people!!

Arrived in the later part of the evening for dinner (I.e., 10:00) after an earlier night out. Ordered two dishes for take out. The total they provided was overcharged by about 40%, as the employees figured we were a part of the intoxicated unaware crowd and thus would not notice. We noticed instantly and the employees stumbled upon their words, not knowing how to justify their actions. They clearly knew they were wrong and caught. Be weary of your actions at this location.

Live in the area for 10 years and finally decided to check out this diner. Walked in with my boyfriend and seated ourselves since no one greeted us at the door. A few minutes after we sat down and were already looking at the menus a waitress asked us how many people, I said just us and she asked us to move to a smaller table and walked away. Then my boyfriend reminded me that we were expecting a friend and made this known to the waitress when she came back. She still asked us to move to a smaller 2 person-table and when the third person got there she would move all of us to a bigger table. What were we supposed to do when our friend got there? Tell her we didnt think about her, pick up our plates and drinks to go to a different table? Ridiculous and rude. I understand the need for bigger tables at rush hour, but there were 4 big tables available. We got up, left and went to The Flame diner right down the street that has never let me down.

A truly UNFORTUNATE & PAINFUL dining experience. I walk past this restaurant everyday and have eaten here a few times now. The food has been good (not like Michelin star good but a good neighborhood spot). Unfortunately, now I will NEVER eat there again...for the reasons stated herein. Yesterday (8/4/17), I brought my cousin here. I suggested a dish, the seafood pasta which I had before and recommended. It was dry--severely overcooked. The mussels were shriveled & void of taste and Id still be chewing on the calamari, had I not expelled it. It tasted nothing like before. It was not edible and believe me, we were so hungry that we tried!! Its become totally inconsistent. All of this I could have forgiven and dismissed to an off night for the chef but it was the way the owner treated me after I dared to complain. When I dared to complain and tell the owner I could not eat this, instead of him offering us something else from the menu, he attacked me in front of his other diners, insisting that I HAD TO PAY FOR IT! When I assured him that I would do NO SUCH THING, he stood in front of other diners and told me to, GET OUT! I wanted very much to give the young lady who had patiently waited on us and tried to be accommodating a generous tip, he informed, WE DONT WANT YOUR MONEY...JUST GET OUT! adding, WE DONT WANT YOU PEOPLE... I turned to him and asked, What did you just say? Ive eaten in restaurants my entire life, here and abroad, and I knew exactly what I was dealing with. It was sad & hurtful but a glaring reminder that there are still places, where you are judged by the color of your skin and NOT the content of your wallet. Again, I could have overlooked the food but when you add this treatment to the mix...NO BUENO!!! IT WAS HATEFUL & HURTFUL, so much so that I had to take time out of my very busy schedule to post this. And, Ill add, if there is a Black person that you love and care about, DONT EAT HERE...BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT WANTED!
