It’s a good diner. The food is good and the coffee is so strong you’ll have an upset stomach half way. Unfortunately the owner or manager is so rude I just can’t go back. Not sure it’s an act, thinking it’s funny to be the stereotypical New York rude (but most New Yorkers aren’t actually rude). He screams at customers and boss them around. I was polite waiting in line and was yelled to just take a seat. But the rather sloppy looking hostess/cashier was showing us to a table inside, but we wanted to sit outside but didn’t have time to tell her. When she finally realised we didn’t follow her she said harshly ‘You could’ve told me’. She meant it in a funny way but I didn’t think it was funny. I felt embarrassed in front of other customers. My advice to anyone working within the service industry- don’t make jokes. They don’t always translate well for all cultures. I certainly didn’t think it was funny. I did tell her I didn’t think her ‘joke’ was funny. The Mexican waiter was sweet and attentive though.
Food was ok. Omelet was smallish, but still decent. $4 for a bagel, so not on the cheap side. Coffee at $3, so on par with other restaurants in the area. Clean. -1 star for the employee walking around without the mask all morning. Especially in the food service business - not acceptable. Wear the damn mask people!
Waitress was nice, but the food was horrible. I ordered a Tropical Waffle with turkey sausage. The lady came out with just a waffle and sausages. She took it back and came back with strawberries and whip cream. What is tropical about strawberries? I thought there would be more fruits on it other than strawberries. The turkey sausage came out and tasted like it has been microwaved, left out and microwaved again. Waffle was okay after I drenched it would syrup. For the price they are, I expected better quality.
Take a break from the hustle of New York City and enjoy a quieter meal at the Cosmic Diner, they offer all the usual diner specialties at New York prices, but hey you are in NYC so....The service here was amazingly quick and they are open 24 hours, perfect spot to catch a meal before or after a show! They also have special at a great value. I tried their spaghetti and meatball and it was exquisite, they even serve a hint of citrus to give it an extra buzz.
Loved it! We got Belgium waffles w eggs, French toast, veggie omelette, & turkey sausage. They were really nice. My kiddo even ate and she is very picky Very chilly inside but beats the heat. Will come back for sure!
Cute little diner with friendly staff. Food came SO fast and you could tell it was fresh and “homemade”. Definitely coming back here while I visit!
Stopped in before a show-burger was fat, juicy and cooked to order, the fries were really good too-just the right crunch. Topped it off with cheesecake which was some of the best I’ve had-theirs sits atop sponge cake, delicious!! Prices good value
We ended there cause we were starving. But it was a terrible mistake (and a place). Food overpriced. The service is awful, bad energy. Hash brown and burgers did not taste good. And at the end they include 20% service fee without asking for it.
Good place. Great food. But for the love of God can it have some background music?!
Amazing experience. I walked in the gentleman greeted me politely and was ready to take my order. Food came quickly and coffee was fresh and delicious. Not to mention the location is very clean. As a New Yorker a hot meal and good coffee in the morning will set the tone for the rest of the day. I highly recommend!!! Even during this pandemic this place is still able to make you feel at home.
Excellent waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. Wait staff was all very nice
Poor value for price. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese. Could have bought a better one at a grocery store. Partner had eggs and hashbrowns. Hashbrowns didn’t seem to be fresh but pre- made and frozen. Disappointing meal for both of us.
I ate breakfast here during a recent trip. Great selection. The waffle was delicious and the service was good.I returned in the evening for an ice cream sundae to-go
Warm blooded people helping you the best way they can.
I discovered Cosmic Diner when visiting New York City two years ago with my sister, aunt, and mom on a Christmas girls trip. This little dinner stays hopping busy, but boasts the best Spanikopita that I have ever eaten in my entire life that comes with a Greek Salad covered in huge hunks of feta cheese. Greek food done RIGHT!
Classic NYC diner: abundant portions, attentive staff (very generous to locals, particularly children at holidays), and reasonable prices. Love it, especially how they have a steady stream of regulars and their historic tables (of course!).
Waiter spilled water and didn’t bring a new one. The gyro wrap had an unknown meet in it and the Caesar wrap left a weird after taste. Within a few minutes of eating we all began to feel nauseous.
Enjoyed a wonderful hot pastrami and cheese. Unfortunately I devoured it before taking picture. It was just lovely.
Food and services was outstanding. Will definitely go back
Ate here for 3 days, super food and service with great prices.
Mediocre, would have been ok at half the price. Added their own service charge, even though the service was non existent, then added a charge for not paying cash.
Don’t get the tuna melt it was disgusting.
My wife and i were hesitant at first by walking by but man they do not disappoint food was fast and tastes amazing
Excellent place! A must if you are in the area, waiters were very nice 🤗 the vibe is very familiar and the food was great, loved the waffle the texture was on point
Pleasant diner, friendly staff, solid food. Nothing fancy, but a good deal.
Best chicken souvlaki ever.
Staff is so on top of things it was amazing.
I go there whenever work brings me to midtown. Good diner No problems with food or wait staff yet....I miss the 24 hour service. But that is NY 2020.
Food was really good staff was right in top of every need thank you
Nothing cosmic about this place. Very unremarkable. Sad presentation but edible. I asked for homefries and was given hash browns. When I questioned what I received I was informed they didn’t have anymore home fries.Ended up paying $30 a person including tip. 10/10 do not recommend.
I love this place. The staff is super friendly and I loved the food. Totally recommend
Horrible! No greeting, he gave my kids which are 3 and 4 years old tall glass of ice water which they cant even pick up. When asked for kids cups with lids he gave us to go cups and just threw it on the table. We got up and left!
Great food. Good service. Highly recommend
Best late night food diner ever!
Quick service. Friendly
My favourite dining experience on my trip to New York. Went for breakfast and the diner had a Lovely atmosphere. Bustling restaurant with plenty of customers and it’s easy to see why. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Varied menu with all the staples. Reasonably priced and quality of food was excellent. Will be back
Super disappointed in the corn beef hash
This place is faster than McDonald! Which is good, their homemade chili is good but the burgers was close to average..I had a texas burger which was certainly plain, everything on the side so that I had to build it up myself.. a bit disapointing but quite american. The service was ok, not more.Would I come back? Not for dinner but maybe for an american style breakfast.
Poor service, coffee/muffin not so good
Great chicken noodle soup
Absolutely Wonderful!
The food is okay, prices are good, it’s a chill spot in the heart of Manhattan
This diner is AMAZING! We had tickets to see Mean Girls next door and we just stopped in to get a drink and get off our feet from walking all day. We ended up ordering Patty melts which were the most delicious burgers you could ever have! The fries were good too. We would eat here again.
Very nice! Decent burger, as well as some pretty good cake. One note is that the cake was a tad spongy, but it was still pretty good. Overall I do recommend! Enjoy your food!
Very nice diner. They charged my Galaxy S9+ and their Caesar Salad is nicer than Panera Bread. I would definitely go back again.
This diner was close to our hotel (Novotel) so we used it a few times. Food is OK and price is mid range. Only one thing really disappointed: breakfast cereal - it was one of those small (kiddies) cereal packets; we had got used to American portion sizes so this seemed very small.
An excellent New York City Diner that has a wide ranging menu. Its moderately priced. It has been remodeled since 2017. The wait staff is attentive, courteous and friendly. The restaurant is clean and spacious and is minimally decorated. The meals are healthily proportioned and youre likely to walk out with a doggie bag unless you bring a healthy appetite. The breakfasts are very good as are their burgers. The french fries are perfectly cooked. Dinners are a little more pricey but well worth it. Last night, I ordered the Brisket with a baked potato and perfectly cooked broccoli and it was delicious. Again, perfectly cooked and served with a lovely and tasty gravy. The girls had breakfast for dinner and my wifes Tex Mex Omelette had plenty of chili and salsa and I took a taste. It was pretty yummy. Good food, clean atmosphere and friendly we have found our new Friday night spot to eat !! Plus its nice that its right in the heart of the upper north part of the Theater District.I recommend it highly.
Party enjoyed their breakfast, go for eggs/bacon type of plates.I on the other hand was a bit disappointed at waffle #4 ... It was a plain waffle with extra sausage. No cream or nothing. Very plain. It was good and fluffy though.Service was attentive and friendly. Clean place but duct tape holding one corner... Kind of funny but still clean.
Average diner food, with above average food prices
I love diners, and Cosmic is one of my favorites. Its clean, and offers a large variety of meal choices from a huge menu. Food Id fresh, and moderately priced. There is a feeling of privacy because of the clever layout of the booths. It was recently renovated (maybe a year or so recent), and the staff is professionally friendly, even to tourists and non-regulars. BTW, portions are generous, as well as tasting like grandma makes it.
Went to Cosmic Diner after going out. The staff was very friendly and went the extra mile to make you feel comfortable. The pancakes and waffles were delicious! The only disappointment was Cosmic did not have non dairy milk ☹.
Since I am a animal Lover, I enjoyed watching all the Cute ❤️🤗💕 Furry Friends walking by with their owners, and having a good meal with a friend makes me happy. The diner was a cute diner. Because of the COVO-19 Virus, we had to eat outside, which was understandable, but I didnt mind, I was happy watching all the Doggies go by.I ordered some curly 🍟 and chocolate mousse for dinner. The fries were good, but I shouldve ordered the 🧀 for my 🍟, melted, like the 🧀 you would put on nachos.. Oh, Well..The Cosmic Diner is a old fashioned diner if you want to relax and have a cup of joe with a good buddy 😁, but its totally Awesome 😎 place to go to if you want watch the Wonderful 🐕 go by.. #DOGSRULE!
Food is good! A little on the pricier side for diner cuisine, but what do you expect, its Manhattan. For the most part, service is great: the waiters are very attentive. However, the overall dining experience took a turn for the worst when, what seems like to be, the management began scolding their staff about the new clock-in/clock-out system in front of the customers. The management ranted about how the staff would not be compensated unless they clock in and out starting today and the customers would need to tip more to, Im assuming, cover their pay. I refuse to return to this restaurant due to this display of unprofessional communication between the management and their staff.
Honestly, it was one of the worse restaurant experience. It is a tourist trap. Our bill was 60$ for 2 and the waiter automatically puts himself 20$ tips....the service was terrible. So we told him that the tip is at the discretion of the client. We still have him 15% but we should have give zero. The bathroom were nasty. Staff rude. Worse experience.
Arrived In New York from Scotland on the 30th October 2019. First evening meal venture was to a diner called Cosmic. First experience was superb along with the food. So much I tipped over the recommended 18% service charge. Sadly on my second visit I was not disappointed by the food but by the waiting staff who seemed to hover over you to get paid and send you on your way and on presenting the bill, being told that the service charge was already added $7 which was less than I gave the first night. The third and last night I visited Cosmic was when the waiter who was dealing with myself decided to frequently visit the table and ask if anything else was required. When finished, the wee guy with the balding grey hair and black moustache hand wrote the bill and decided that my service charge was $10. This was on a hand written bill not presented to myself like the first and second night. He wrote it and stood waiting on the dollars. I paid the bill including the service charge and when he came back to the table I expected my change. In a blank expression from the waiter I left disgusted. Lovely food but left feeling that my generosity was taken advantage of. For that reason I will never darken the door of the Cosmic Diner again when I return.William AllanA Proud Scotsman
A picture is better than 1000 words. This place was a disaster. The meat lasagna was anything else but a lasagna. The turkey meatloaf was totally burn and they tried to cover it with the gravy. Picture bellow. The mashed potato and corn were also inedibles. First time in my life that I returned a plate in a restaurant. On top of this the service was also very bad.Sadly is not possible to give them a zero.
