I went in search of a frosted cinnamon bun at the suggestion of Google. This is what they call a cinnamon bun in NYC apparently. It was delicious, but not what I was searching for.

Under-rated bakery! Great cookies. Wide coffee assortment!Likely the one place I make sure folks who love good breads make sure to check out - its a full 5 stars for the bakery! Why 4 stars? One star taken away only because of a pet peeve: coffee temperatures. Especially when asking for extra-hot, the coffee is still just at regular temps - would love to see this addressed (I still come often and get coffee!)

Part of being a good store is its ability to address customers concerns - in this case the all day line outside the store. The line is caused by people ordering specialty coffee. Those orders take longer so people hang around inside waiting for their orders. Please stop selling specialty coffee and focus on selling your excellent bread. The line outside turns away many customers. If people want specialty coffee, there is Starbucks across the street.

I really love this location. Not only are the breads and desserts beyond fresh and delicious but I also appreciate the lovely staff. They are always very pleasant and polite. Its great how they always enforce the mask policy so that we all stay safe. My favorite employee is Joe. I always know Im going to receive great, kind service whenever I see him. Hes been my favorite staff member for months. Its nice to go to a store where people recognize me and even remember my name. Having such personalized experience is what makes me stop by this location 1-2x per week. Keep hiring such great staff and baking the delicious food please!

I posted this on yelp too, because I am very upset. Look me up and I never give review anywhere! But this was unacceptable!!I have lived in the UWS for over 20 years and support every small business in our area. Breads has excellent quality products. They are the best bakers, and I know bakers. I come from France. However, Breads lost a loyal customer of many years, today. And I honestly never do this, but I am very upset with todays staff. The guy that was serving me on July 1st, 2021 at 5:15PM, light color hair, was the worst jerk and the rudest person I have been served by (well I left, so he did not serve me).It is sad that poor service is one of the main reasons a business dies.

I finally got to try the famous chocolate babka. I saw they were all packaged to go in the store so asked if they were fresh. I was told they were baked that morning. Unfortunately, I found it to be very small and quite dry/over-baked, which is pretty disappointing for $15. I would love to try their other baked goods but I don’t think the pre-wrapped babka is worth it... I also didn’t get the most welcoming vibe by the counter stuff.

Shout out to friendly staff! Was in the neighborhood and popped in to try their chocolate babka. I was coming in from a workout and didn’t have a mask but manager? (lady with short hair and glasses) was super accommodating and understanding as she grabbed me a disposable one they keep on hand. Some places can make you feel unwelcome and embarrassed but not so here!It was morning and she was busy getting stuff set up yet took the time to be friendly.Staff behind the counter were also helpful and courteous. Brief but great experience in store.Chocolate babka (while $$) is rich and decadent- stuffed with chocolate and buttery - perfect with coffee or tea.

Everything about this place is fantastic...the food, the personnel, the cleanliness, the speed. Highly recommend the burekas, breakfast sandwich, cheese sticks, and rugaleh. A small bakery located almost immediately across from the Lincoln Center. Given the location and its size, usually very packed, but lines as far as I’ve seen are usually not that heavy. The Japanese cheapness in me thinks that the price here seems to be high, but objectively they are not. Looking at their croissant, for example, costing $3.25, I’d say the price is average for artisanal bakeries in the city. If I were to add, for some reason I recently had a mysterious thought that took me to the Starbucks and purchased their “everything croissant”. I am sure it had lots of chemicals, preservatives, fats, sodium, along with other unwanted injected things. Costing me exactly the same, if I remember, $3.25, the bites of chemical mass produced croissant contributed to a headache, mouth watering, and unpleasant stomach feeling for the next a few hours. $3.25 for croissant at an artisanal bakery in the city isn’t high in price.Their chocolate babka, is sinfully tasty. I am sure it contains lots of sugars and butters, but every bite is worth. And needless to say, unlike Starbucks’s products, it won’t leave a bad taste in you afterward.Price might be high, but value is up there, too. I might well be too cheap to pay for my own for the chocolate bubka, but it is a great gift. I am happy to rate this place 5/5.

If you want authentic donuts there is only one place to get these once a year treat. EDIT I was a big fan of breads for a long long time. Literally every Friday and every Jewish holiday I would stock up on their items to fill my table. Being French in NYC quality is super important to me when it comes to bread. I would have said without hesitation that Breads was the best bakery in NYC... That is, until Hanukkah of 2018. I host a party every year and usually get 4 dozen sufganiyot to serve. About a week before I went to Breads to buy one of each flavor to try and much to my surprise when I ate my first donut there was zero jam inside. Like, nothing. I was kind of upset but figured it was a mistake. I reached out to both the Breads Bakery via instagram and also Uri Scheft himself and got zero response. I guess they feel that they are too big to respond to individual customers. Or maybe they just dont care? After hearing nothing from them I was kind of turned off. I obviously couldnt buy and serve tons of donuts that were no good and werent filled. So I went to Orwashers instead. I actually havent been back to Breads since that bad trip. I dont plan to either. Its a shame because their food used to be great. At this point I dont want to plan on serving something when I am not sure of the quality. Honestly in NYC it is possible to find other good options with consistency and good customer service. Bye bye Breads. ----ORIGINAL REVIEW : Where to start ? The BEST bakery in New York. Their babka is to die for ! Im French and I assure you that their pastries are a true taste from home. Everything is always right on the spot and fresh. The staff is friendly, a little pricey but soooo worth it!

Good baked products. So long as you arrive late enough. Most of the products are good - croissants, baguettes, brownie/chocolate cake. The issue is the inconsistent arrival time of any baked goods in the morning. They open at 7am. But play it safe and arrive at 9am. Even after 8am you may arrive to empty shelves...UPDATE: 08.20 again no baked goods... so disappointing not to have consistently or at least the decency of better communication to manage customer expectations on when you plan to stock your store at the start of the day

I preordered two babkas and a loaf of sourdough online a day ago and when I arrived at the bakery at the designated time, they told me they were all sold out. I traveled from Astoria to pick up my order so I was infuriated. The two solutions they offered me was either a refund or pick up again the next day which were neither acceptable for me. They’re really irresponsible and from the attitude the cashier gave me, it probably wasn’t the first time it happened. I know their babka’s good, but it isn’t worth the terrible experience.
