Amazing absolutely amazing. Their ice cream is fantastic and their staple taiyaki with ice cream is definitely worth the visit!!! Their staff was super friendly and quick service as well. I highly recommend you stop by if you get hit by that sweet tooth craving. 100% planning to go again soon and try more flavors!
Unicorn taiyaki - Those first few bites at the top were delicious, among my favorite bites of any ice cream ever. I shouldve asked what those pieces in it actually were. Im rounding this review up to 5 stars for that. The base was also satisfying, and seemed more freshly made than when I had a similar dessert at BBF.Mochi donuts - I tried the black sesame and oreo dream. Both tasted fresh. I appreciated that they tasted distinctly different. Personally preferred the oreo flavor.I tried buying the donuts with cash and was told its card only, which surprised me.
Everything was top of the line from the customer service to the food itself. I had the matcha and classic pancakes, which are only available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 2 PM, as well as one of the unicorn ice creams with a red bean taiyaki. Saw it on Food Insider, it not only lived up to the hype, but exceeded it.
The soft ice cream was really good. The bottom cone part was surprisingly good. Not warm but still had a little bit of crunch and it was tasty. One had red bean in it which I love and the other chocolate one had custard in it. Really nice dessert and the ice cream and the taiyaki mix is just fantastic. I would come back for more.
I have been wanting to go here for years and I just happened to be in the neighborhood, so I had to finally try it! I was not disappointed; do you see how cute this dessert is?! You’d be crazy not to want this. They had so many combinations to choose from, but I needed unicorn ice cream in my life. They also have fluffy pancakes that I’ll be going back to try!
Honestly I thought this place was going to be OK and all about the social media pictures. After tasting the icecream though I can honestly say this place is well worth the visit and isnt just for the cool Instagram pictures. The strawberry mango was amazingggg!! A must visit! Icecream on a fish is $8 with 1 free syrup of your choosing and 2 free toppings of your choosing.
Wowwwww!!!!! You would think that icecream is always the same wherever you go but NO!!!!!! It is NOT!!!First, I LOVED my Unicorn icecream because to me it was very unique, first time I see someone putting in the effort to really make it look like an unicorn.Almost didnt want to eat mine. Ha ha!Second, the taste was incredible!! The icecream was extremely creamy, the sprinkles were DELICIOUS, the unicorn ears and horn were HEAVENLY, the combination was a sweet great one but not overwhelming, which makes it PERFECT.The cone was something else, very crispy yet so soft!! I really liked the taste of it and the surprise it had in the bottom of the cone. I didnt really read what was on it, so came to the store and simply asked for the Unicorn Taiyaki with vanilla icecream and when it was almost over I was surprised to see it had this creamy sweet thing that I couldnt figure out what it was, after me and my boyfriend devoured the whole thing within less than 3 minutes I went on to read the menu and found out it was red bean... yesss, red bean on an icecream, and it was REALLY GOOD TOO!!!!!!!!!I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!!!!!!
Completely overrated. I took my two kids and the service was completely rude, snotty, and they were out of everything my kids wanted. I can see paying eight dollars for great service and great product but neither was offered. Big disappointment but I gave them credit for their social media because they give the appearance that this is something amazing but it’s not.
Great product and quality. Staff could be more friendly. Worth to visit.
Went here for the first time on Sunday and I loved it! There was no line and the ice cream came out quickly. We got the matcha and hojicha swirl topped with rainbow sprinkles and mochi in a Rilakkuma cone. It was adorable and tasted great. Stop by if you’re in Chinatown—it’s a great place to pick up some dessert.
Came here with a relative. Definitely enjoyed the ice cream, it was super thick and beautiful. I tried the green tea flavour and I did not enjoy it but if you are into green tea, youll love it because it tastes just like green tea! I loved the chocolate (Mr. Softy type flavouring) and mango (makes you feel like youre on a tropical yacht) with coconut flakes. It was amazing and I would come back. I sadly did not try the red bean cone but I did try the custard cone and it was so yummy (it tastes sort of like bread). I usually never eat the cones so this was crazy to me. I love the texture and how soft the cone was.
So Ive always wanted to try this place as I saw it a few times on Instagram. I ordered the swirl which is a twist of matcha and roasted matcha. I bite into it and was shocked at how good it was!Honestly, I never like ice cream cones because it always end up being messy and the cone is soggy. NOT THIS ONE. Literally the cone is so sturdy and crisp till the very end. Its almost like the cracked the code of making a perfectly handcrafted cone. Also the rice ball toppings is sooo good!Ill definitely be coming back for more!
Everything looks fun and tastes great. I’ve been before for the taiyaki, but this time I went late at night for a box of donuts and there was a big crowd. The staff was all still so polite and helpful to everyone in line even though it was late and they had to explain multiple times which items were sold out, etc. Great vibes.
Ive been to this shop a few times now, and all the ice cream Ive had there is absolutely delicious. The taiyaki cone is unique and really well executed. The store is small on the inside, but well worth a visit. Even better is the staff, who are super nice and polite even when they have to move quickly to accommodate the line. On our last visit, my cousin forgot her phone in the shop, and the employees held onto it and allowed us to pick it up the next morning. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for a quick, sweet pick-me-up.
Yummy ice cream! I wish I wasn’t in a hurry so I can try their fluffy pancake!
Very tiny icecream shop but I love them and have been here many times. The icecream is great and Ive fortunately tried their fluffy pancakes as well which were delightful. Such a gem in Chinatown.
Very high quality Japanese style ice cream, excellent cones as well. Service is good and quick. When our child dropped their ice cream, they came over and replaced the whole thing for free. You guys rock !
Come here if youre in the mood for a nice, refreshing summer treat. Here, they use the taiyaki (fish-shaped waffle) in lieu of a cone for your soft serve ice cream. You can either choose from their 7 signature taiyaki soft serves or build your own. The last time I was here, I ended up choosing from their signature taiyakis, the #5 “Beach, Please” (partly because the name made me chuckle, heh). The #5 had strawberry and mango ice cream swirl, coconut flakes and was served in a custard taiyaki cone.I absolutely loved it! Strawberry and mango are flavors that go really well together. It did not taste like traditional ice cream but more like sorbet. Very refreshing and light. And the taiyaki cone was perfect. It was obviously made fresh, was still slightly warm and had a wonderful crunchy exterior. The custard filling gave it an extra taste layer as well. I thought the overall presentation was so very cute and the result was a great dessert.
Its nice and clean I went right around when they opened and the donuts werent available at that time yet, going to go back at a different time for them. I got the straight outta japan taiyaki and the icecream was so good! The staff were so nice and gave ne time when the donuts would be out. Just a reminder that they usually take electronic pay and if youre going to pay with cash you should have an exact amount because the cashier might not have enough change.
It was pretty busy but the staff were on the ball. Got in, ordered, got our stuff all in approximately 5 minutes. We got one of the new donuts, as well as a #3 Taiyaki. Everything tasted very good, and fresh
All in all, I think the package was quite good. The soft serve and the soft sorbet were thick, rich, and refreshing (in the case of the sorbet). I found the taiyaki fresh and stuffed with red bean paste, seasoned well and not too sweet. The mochi skewers are a gimmick, though, dried out and old.
Ice cream over a taiyaki is super cute and if worthy. The taiyaki is on the thicker side, probably to accommodate holding the ice cream and be soggy. The taiyaki is crunchy and tasty, the red bean is great not too sweet. The ice is yummy but not outstanding. Honestly, nothing is especially special about the taste of the place, is just cute and pretty, but that may be just enough for the trip!
Got my first Taiyaki ever here and have absolutely no regrets! in fact, it was so good I came back the next day to get another one... this little guy is not only cute, but also scrumptious! its around $9 for one, but its super filling and definitely shareable! i made my own and got the custard taiyaki with hojicha + matcha swirl ice cream, condensed milk, and two mochi sticks! the ice cream had a super strong roasted tea taste and was light, fluffy/creamy (does this make sense??), and smooth, and the taiyaki was crispy and lightly chewy. The mochi was a bit hard but honestly i didnt mind it too much because the rest of the dessert was so good!! yet another dessert that isnt too sweet for me!
After having Taiyaki from a different store in San Jose, we were excited to come here in New York.We came here twice. The first time we got the unicorn specialty Taiyaki. We enjoyed it, but I have to say I was a little disappointed in their flavors. The only filling options were custard and red bean paste. The ice cream flavor options seemed more American tailored (strawberry, mango, etc).We had heard a lot about the souflee pancakes, but we didnt realize they only have them Friday-Sunday from 11am-2pm. We came back the next day to get them. They were amazing. The were huge fluffy pancakes. Im not a huge pancake fan, but these light fluffy pancakes were great. I would definitely come back for these.I think this place is definitely worth a stop while in NYC.
Great service, great ice-cream! I recommend the #4 as its the most popular one there- and well deserved too!
I always love their taiyaki, every time I visit! The traditional one with custard is my favorite, and I also love their matcha/hojicha ice cream with condensed milk on top. Perfection. They also sell mochi donuts occasionally, and while those are cute, I cant say Im a huge fan. The donut itself is alright, but sometimes the icing can be too sweet or grainy. Still definitely recommend trying!
Not all its cracked up to be. Still waiting for the custard filling. Runny ice milk . Dont waste your time, honestly
Having an ice cream cone in the shape of a fish sounded too fun to pass up. I had the unicorn cone with vanilla flavor with sprinkles. The fish was a tasty waffle texture.
I was very excited for the fluffy souffle pancake. After a wait of 20 minutes, I got my pancakes. It looked great, but when I cut into it, the egg white was uncooked and some of it was not mixed with the batter. Taiyaki refunded the price of the pancake but could not serve another plate. It was disappointing to not get my pancakes after making the trip to Chinatown and spending almost half an hour there.I was able to eat the mini-taiyaki that comes with the pancakes and that was delicious.
This tiny, adorable shop offers quick service and a clean atmosphere. At busy times, the line goes out the door, and one of the Taiyaki workers directs the line. Theres very limited seating on the inside of the shop, but during hot summer days, its really the best option to stay inside so your soft serve doesnt melt too fast.Overwhelmed by all the people and the new-to-me menu, I missed the part where it says that the fish-shaped waffle cone is filled with red bean curd filling. It wasnt bad, but it was a surprise to me. The second visit (yes, we went back again) I opted for custard filling, which I enjoyed more. I also ordered the classic pancakes, and those were beyond delicious. Also, $8 for a cone is not cheap to me. But I guess, price is relative. The shop was very clean for being constantly filled with people.
I love the ice cream flavors, the custard filled taiyaki and the classic souffle pancakes. Everything is delicious!!
Somewhat of a novelty experience, but still delicious and memorable. The waffle fish cone was the best part! Filled with custard rather than the red bean, it was warm and crunchy. The unicorn horns and ears were adorable and the sprinkles tasted like very sugary. The ice cream itself was delicious and complemented the cone well. I wish I was hungry enough to have both pancakes and ice cream because the pancakes looked extra fluffy and yummy!
Love the green tea Taiyaki!
Fun destination! Delicious Taiyaki—ice cream in a fish-shaped waffle cone.Small shop, but efficient.Someday I would like to try the fish-shaped pancakes.
Who doesn’t love ice cream in a fish shaped cake soft waffle textured cone? Our first visit to Taiyaki happened after a friend recommended the restaurant. The Baxter street location is so small you will almost miss it, but good things do come in small packages (or spaces) after all. The staff were very friendly and patiently tolerated all our requests to sample different flavors. What I didn’t realize was that the fish shaped cone was filled with either a custard or red bean filling. Yes, red bean. I thought this was the nastiest sounding filling, but was surprised by the sweet and palatable flavor. It had a texture much like marzipan. Do yourself a solid and stop by Taiyaki. You’ll be saying “domo arigato” all day long.
Small shop with so much foot traffic, it was worth the wait though. Their souffle pancakes are delicious, light and airy. If you are ever visiting China town this must be on your list of places to eat.
Awesome Instagram worthy place with delish ice cream!
Not a big ice cream bro. However this was delicious. Got the chocolate one. Big fan. But the big surprise, the cone is WARM, and mind-blowing.
The red bean Taiyaki cones are so delicious! They have a custard filling which melts in your mouth after youre done with your ice cream swerve on the top. truly worth a visit!
Really cool concept with delicious ice cream. Cones not that big but cant really complain because the taste is that good!
The fish shaped cone is soo good, it’s like eating a super soft waffle. I would say get your ice cream from home and have it with their fish shaped cone !!
We came here when we travelled to New York at Christmas in 2019! It was delicious!!!Great service too :)
Love the ice cream here. great service. courtesy of my friend tiffany :P
