Had a great experience here. Service was fast and friendly. The coffee was tasty. Very chill atmosphere inside with lots of different places to sit (couches, regular tables, bar areas) and outdoor seating. Ill be back.

They have a meeeeeaaaaannnnn Thai iced coffee here(pictured). The ambience is really nice and is one of the more upscale coffee shops on Hillsborough street. Its very posh in there compared to say Cup-a-Joe. Staff was pleasant enough but could be a little friendlier.

Good coffee and atmosphere. parking is ok too. they have multiple plant based milks available and they’re pretty affordable. it is a great place to study or go for a chat with a friend. it’s all very clean too. they show local art, which is nice too

This place has a much more laid back atmosphere than a lot of the other coffee shops on Hillsborough. I think being a short way away from campus helps a lot. They also have a cool selection of local beer and art in the shop which I really appreciate. The coffee itself is solid, I tried the iced thai latte and was pretty impressed with the flavor and presentation. I think its my new favorite coffee shop, cant wait to back and try something new.

Came in and ordered the large caramel latte with a little less caramel. Definitely tasted good and was an excellent choice for a start to my day. Bonus, they have bass rich music :P

I loved this place. Great little place for a quick bite, some good coffee or a pint of beer. Very reasonably priced and it had a nice vibe going for it. The staff is extremely courteous and walks you through their menu when asked. Awesome place to hang with friends, get some work done or just to grab a coffee and think.

Visiting from out of town and stopped in for some breakfast. The English Muffin with Bree was fantastic and the coffee was solid. They dont have a ton of cream options out, just half and half. Atmosphere is relaxed and music was the perfect volume: loud enough to be enjoyable but not enough to drown out a conversation. They also have cool local artwork hung around the shop which is available for purchase as well.

The coffee is just okay when compared to other places near by, but the food options are tasty and there are lots of vegan and allergen friendly choices. JPs pastries and Michaels Muffins included! I also really like their tea selection. Service is efficient but surprisingly not always very friendly. Limited street parking is available. This place is always happening because its right by NC State. Great place to chat with the locals. Its a younger crowd but we dont mind. This is hubby favorite go-to place for a beer and double shot of espresso for 6 bucks. Great tables out front to catch some rays. Cheap mimosas on Sunday :-)

Love this place! The atmosphere is chill and inviting. But windows let in a lot of natural light. The tea carafes are the best! There are so many types of tea and very reasonably priced. The food is good and the English muffins are a must. Definitely recommend!

They have a lavender syrup that makes an amazing latte. For summer they also have this cool drink called a Chameleon Spritzer - its a floral/berry lemonade with fizz and it changes color when you stir it! I also really like coming here to work, and its a great place for studying. Also, they do a cake of the day and I have yet to not be amazed by them.

This morning 5 of us went for coffee and was treated very poorly by the young man working. He was very angry we were there when the shop opened. He was a few mins late opening up then was not pleased we bothered him with our order. I purchase at least 2 coffees a day and will walk a block farther to get better service and to my delight, better coffee.

Loved everything about this place except that they close at 9pm on weekend nights! It smelled amazing, the woman behind the bar patiently answered our random questions, and the wine we got was one of the best whites I’ve ever had! Can’t wait to go back to try their coffee!

I come here at least twice a week. The staff is friendly and the coffee is very good. The facility is always clean and people are nice. The only recommendation I would add is to expand the food offerings a little bit; breakfast burritos, would be a nice fit. Great job LS!

Ever since I moved to raleigh I have been going to this place because it is convenient for me to get to and I love the ambiance. Further, they have coffee cards so when you order a beverage you get one step closer to a free beverage. Like that. I order tea and I love the way they present it. It is loose tea and they put it in a French Press. In the back they have a comfortable couch and some comfy chairs. I like going there and lounging for a bit, drinking my tea and then getting on with my day. Hooray, they serve gluten free options.

What a fantastic concept! A delightful, cozy little cafe/bar that is very reasonably priced. You can order great tea, area-sourced coffee, and even good quality, but lesser known wines, and micro brewed beers! They even offer small bites on the form of pastries, meat pies (!), salads, and cheese/nut plates. Everything Ive had here has been absolutely delicious. Well worth a visit.

I love Liquid State! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, and the menu is very diverse. They even serve gluten free pastries! Liquid State also has a great atmosphere. Perfect for studying or just hanging out. I would highly recommend it to everyone!

Busy, popular coffee shop. Coffee is pretty good, but the South African meat pies are great. Why 4 stars? They microwave the pies and the crust gets soggy.

This is my new favorite cafe in Raleigh. The beverages are delicious, the service is warm and friendly, their tea selection is amazing, and they have enough freaking power outlets that I dont have to reach under someone else to power up the ole laptop! On top of it all, the combination of bricks, wood, and airiness make it a lovely atmosphere to get some writing done or chat with a friend. And in case you didnt know, there is free parking in the lot off the circle by Players Retreat! This place is a total win.

Good coffee, beans come from a local roaster. Plenty of space to plug in a laptop and do some work. They also offer a decent variety of craft beers.

The atmosphere is fantastic; great music in the background, a nicely styled interior, and a nice location. The way that the bar seating is done really nails the theme of a coffee shop combined with a bottle shop. Impressively, the place works equally as well as somewhere to concentrate on work and somewhere to get a drink with a friend.The coffee is very good, but not very remarkable. Theres not really anything on the menu that would stick in your mind as something you need to go HERE to get. This is especially noticable because its also slightly more expensive than other coffee shops.

Average and what youd expect from any cafe around Raleigh. Good drink choices, but a little light in creative eats. Michaels muffins are awesome, but mine was barely toasted and I specifically asked for darker. My matcha tea was an uninspiring lukewarm cut-summer-grass tasting disappointment.

A nice little coffee shop/bar right next to NCSU. Great for people who want to drink and allows their designated driver(dd) to have a good time too. Its also peaceful place to get work done.

I absolutely live Liquid State. While I cant say anything for their alcoholic beverages, their coffee is absolutely delicious in any of its various forms (especially the Ghirardelli Mint Mocha; it is heavenly!) and can usually be made to your desired sweetness/bitterness level. The decor and smiling faces - not just behind the counter, but everywhere around the shop - make you instantly feel warm and welcome from the moment you walk in. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a great place for any kind of beverage!

Girl puts the container on the counter and slides it towards me instead of properly handing it to me...

The coffee is great, some of the best drip and lattes in the area. The small meat, nuts, and olive plates are great. Seating is crazy hard to get, so have a backup plan. Students camp out here.

Authentic little café just east of NC State campus with a few tables on the sidewalk. Love to stop in on weekend morning bike rides for the almond croissants. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.

I am writing this review as I leave this place. They have a nice blend of coffee, teas and local beers. The staff are super friendly. I picked up a beer and to my surprise it came with some complimentary condiments. The last time I had something of such kind was in every bar in Belgium. I enjoyed them.A neighbor was done with this tea. Without him asking for a re-steep, the barista behind the bar proactively asked him whether he wanted his tea re-steeped. A nice gesture that goes a long way.This coffee place was previously a place where they sold loco pops. They still do sell locopops here.Parking: It is over next to the BB&T bank. The same parking lot that caters to patrons of David Dumping. The parking is next to the round-about.The place is right next to Davids Dumpling Bar.

Really friendly service. Serves both alcohol and nonalcoholic drinks (coffee and beer and wine). The only trade off is there is sometimes a lack of seating, especially if there are groups meeting here.

I have loved & visited this place for years. It is consistently good & always a pleasant experience. The baristas are very friendly & knowledgeable and the ambiance is very quiet, low volume music, tons of tropical plants and natural sunlight pours in almost all day. They also sell beer & wine and host wine nights- truly everything! Science nerds will get a kick out of the menu. Oh, and try the matcha latte. You wont be sorry.

I recently moved to the area and have finally decided to write a review. Ive been to many coffee shops on Hillsborough and have decided that this is the best cafe on the street.Every time I come in, the baristas are unfailingly welcoming and helpful. I come here at least 3-4 times a week at different parts of the day. It doesnt matter if Im coming in for a coffee or a beer, the service is great, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it just feels cozy.The coffee is delicious. The espresso is pulled fast and is not grainy at all. Most coffee houses are serving Counter culture, but Liquid State serves Carrboro coffee.Quite simply, Liquid State is wonderful.

Wow, this is my perfect coffee shop. I wish I lived here!Liquid state is a cozy spot with lighter fare, delicious coffee, and a nice beer offering. This is the perfect place to get work done, with plenty of tables, seating, and a comfy seating area as well. Cant wait to come back everytime I visit NCSU.

An uncluttered sleek coffee shop thats definitely worth a visit.The great: the teas are fantastic and they can be ordered French-press for a great price. Im not a big coffee drinker but a drip coffee and iced coffee Ive ordered on different occasions were both spot on. The baristas are very friendly and inviting also. Moreover, they seem genuinely interested if you enjoyed your purchase and visit.As another reviewer noted, there are tons of outlets! As far as layout goes, it has an open design and the tables and counter-space are smartly organized to provide lots of seating and working areas. But seriously, tons of outlets...The less than great: the beers are a bit pricy. The times Ive gone the cheapest was $5.50. Food-wise its basically plates of nuts, meats, etc... Seeing the plates filled from a Kirkland bag of almonds reduces perceived value.Despite this, 5 stars! Why? Food and beer arent what I go to a coffee shop for. Liquid State has great: tea and coffee, space, employees, hours, parking, and tons of outlets. Its busier every time I go. This place will be around for a while.

I frequent this coffee shop between 1 and 3 times a week! The atmosphere is perfect for working or studying, and I know Im not the only one who feels this way because its rare to see more than one or two tables open at a time. The tea selection is great; I cant have caffeine most days, and Liquid State has the best herbal tea selection in the area, hands down. Because of the aforementioned caffeine restrictions, Im not much of a coffee drinker, but I have had an almond milk latte here before and found it to be among the better dairy-free lattes in the area.I will say that parking is a bit tricky, since there are only about 10 meter spots around their block, and all of them can only be accessed from one direction. I imagine that most of their patrons are NCSU students and faculty who simply walk over from campus. Ill admit that I have never asked if they have any alternative parking suggestions besides the meter spots, so it doesnt hurt to call and ask. If there are no spots immediately outside, I usually just park further up the street and walk. Believe me, it is worth it.

Just went into this lovely jewel today. The atmosphere is calm and chill. The baristas all know their stuff. I ordered a matcha and was pleasantly surprised that they prepared it the traditional way with the hand whisk.
