Dr. Annie Bacon is hands down one of the friendliest optometrists I’ve ever had. She is upbeat, knowledgeable and even when she’s wearing a mask you know she’s smiling. Her staff are super helpful and you know when staff is happy that’s because they have an amazing Dr.

Our family has been coming here for years - while we have always appreciated the expertise and service, the additional services offered during COVID have been phenomenal as well. My daughters glasses came in, and to avoid many people in the office, Eye Department arranged a drop off at our home. They are adapting and offering services to assist families during this crazy time.

I had an urgent need to get my eye checked out and was able to get into to see Dr. Bacon at the last minute this morning. Walking in her office I was easily at a 10 with fear and anxiety about the symptoms I was experiencing with my eye condition. Dr. Bacon quickly made me feel much better with her candor, sense of humor, and more importantly her experience. She helped to turn what was a scary situation into a comfortable and pleasant experience very quickly. Her staff was professional, friendly, and very caring. I would highly suggest coming in for a visit if and when you have the need.

Eye Department is great! Dr. Annie and the staff at Eye Department are knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. They all understand the intricacies of insurance, which is very helpful. Dr. Annie’s eye exams are thorough and comfortable, and it is apparent that she genuinely cares about your eye health. The selection of glasses is also fantastic; I got a fun, fashionable pair of sunglasses for a very reasonable price. I also appreciate that they offer free parking spaces for customers in a part of town where parking can sometimes be difficult.

Eye Department is hands down the best and most comprehensive eye shop Ive been to in my 20 or so years having my eyes taken care of. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They take the complexity out of any insurance issues, and are very good at explaining your available coverage and giving you different options based on that coverage. Dr. Annie Bacon is attentive, listens to any problems you may be having, and is a pro at what she does. They also have an excellent selection of frames for glasses. Their website is very easy to use, and their online booking platform makes arranging an appointment quick and convenient. I recommend Eye Department 100% to anyone looking for good care for their eyes!

The Eye Department team is so extremely friendly and helpful, and Dr. Annie is so sweet and amazing at what she does. When I get my eyes checked, I know Im getting the best service and bang for my buck when it comes to prescription lenses or contacts. They are also kind enough to write out all of the insurance and cost breakdown for you which makes everything so effortless at checkout! Michelle is also so great at calling up your insurance company for you if youre not sure about your coverage.I couldnt recommend Dr. Annie and her team enough. If you dont go to see her for a checkup, I would at least suggest you check out their hip and stylish eye glasses and sunglasses collection!

After more than a month of back and forth and $500+ I’m still not totally satisfied with my prescription, but don’t feel like I can get more help. Had an appointment and ordered glasses about a month and a half ago, got upsold to Poly Lenses. Got the glasses 2 weeks later, turns out I’m Polynonadaptive (my eyes can’t properly adjust to the material). I went in and the optician told me it was probably because I didn’t pay more for digitally enhanced lenses to start. After some haggling they agreed to switch the material back to regular plastic but no refund on the Poly, and I had to send the glasses back for 2 more weeks (back to migraines with my scratched up old old glasses). After 2 weeks they still weren’t done and didn’t know when they would be so I just went to LensCrafters and got a pair made the same day with no hassle. A few days later I got the other glasses in finally. Now over a week later I’m realizing all light is still fuzzy in one eye, which after researching looks like maybe an astigmatism issue, but I don’t feel like I can reach out to them because when I reached out before the reaction was I didn’t spend enough money rather than possibly having something wrong with my prescription.

The Eye Department is a fabulous place. Dr. Annie Bacon and her staff are so interested in serving the needs of their customers that you feel like the most important person in the world. Everyone one of us should have the opportunity to have that experience.I cannot recommend the Eye Department more highly! I love coming here. Dr. Annie makes me feel like I am the most important patient she has ever had. I have referred everyone in my family, and all of them have gotten great care. The frame selection is just perfect, not too big, not too small. I also love how easy it is to get there, essentially right off of West Burnside. I just received my new lenses from Eye Department and I couldn’t be happier! Their sales associate Monique went above and beyond helping me choose the right lenses to fit my needs. She has a great eye for fit and style when it comes to eyewear; several years ago when she knew I was shopping for new frames she told me she had found the perfect pair for me, and she was right! The frames she picked out looked so much better on me than the pair I had just purchased so I returned them and bought the frames from her. I still get tons of compliments on them to this day, and she just helped me get new lenses for them. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great experience. Doctor was very thorough and very helpful. She was knowledgeable and quick to answer my questions. Also, when initial test results didnt support my experience, the doctor went through a more extensive test to double check her results. This was a great experience. I did my annual eye exam with Dr. Annie a few weeks ago and it was very thorough. Great experience – The front desk ladies were nice and warm. Dr. Annie was professional, kind and fun to talk to. In the end of the exam she walked me through a few simple exercise that may benefit my eyes more in short & long term. I’ve been doing them ever since and my eyes already got much relieved from intense computer work.Will definitely recommend this place to family and friends!

Ive been looking for glasses for the past 3 months, looking in several different shops throughout Portland. But when I walked in here it felt different. Very welcoming, they actually helped me search for a pair of glasses similar shape to the ones I already have, like I requested. With their help I found a pair- just what I was looking for! What an absolute treat! Real talk - I’ve been dragging my feet to go get my vision checked out and endure the dreaded puff of air into my eyeball that they always insist on doing, but finally booked the appointment at the Eye Department as a new patient. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but they truly went above and beyond throughout every step of the process. They made me feel welcome and comfortable and listened to my concerns with sincerity. The Eye Department gave me one of the best experiences Ive ever had getting new glasses.For background, I had just had new lenses put into a pair of previously purchased frames at another optometrist, which is fancy enough that I expected quality care, closer to my house. The people there were not very helpful and, frankly, didnt do a very good job with my glasses. They didnt even offer to adjust the frames to my face. I had to ask and then they were so curt about it, that I didnt feel I could ask for necessary additional adjustments to get a proper fit.I had another pair of frames that needed lenses, so I went to the Eye Dept, which had been recommended to me by a colleague. The people working were all friendly, knowledgeable, and they took as much time with me as if I had purchased the frames there. They explained all the options clearly, with no pressure, and answered my (many) questions about the various coatings and materials. My new glasses came back quickly, and then they spent time getting the frames to sit evenly on my face (who knew I had one ear higher than the other?). I even came back a week later to get additional adjustments, and they were super friendly and got the glasses just right for me.While I was waiting, I asked them if they could adjust my frames from the first (bad) optometrist, and they said of course! and got those frames to fit me properly too.I whole-heartedly recommend The Eye Department for all of your eye needs. Dr. Annie is incredible and I cant wait to have a reason go back and get a pair of the fabulous frames they sell in the store!

Had to bring glasses back 2 times to get adjusted and still not 100% to where I want them. After a long day my eyes still hurt but I feel there’s no hope at this point. I chose this place because of their rating and while they were very nice and somewhat helpful, the product was not worth it. I will look for a new eye doctor when I need to upgrade(which won’t be long).

The staff at the Eye Department are super friendly and answered all my questions. I was in the need for some new frames and the selection and designs were great. The optometrist annie is professional and courteous. She listened to all my needs, and my upgraded prescription is awesome! I was having some headaches at work staring at a computer screen all day and didn’t realize it was related to my eyes. Since my updated prescription my headaches are completely gone and my coworkers keep complementing me on my new frames. I never realized kids could also use an eye exam so I’ll be bringing my children here real soon for a checkup. Thanks again Eye Department for a great experience!

Dr. Annie and her staff are great. I have been going to Eye Department since it opened in 2013 however I have been seeing Dr. Annie for four years prior to that. Dr. Annie does not rush the exam, she takes the time to understand not only your eye health but also your overall health. She also takes time to get to know you on a personal level. Eye Department has a great selection of glasses and options for lenses.

We all know there are many choices when I comes to getting your eyes checked and prescription renewed but for me I insist on being taken care of by someone who is going to provide the best care for me. Dr. Annie is very thorough and complete when it comes to taking care of her patients and she came highly recommended. She is also professional and polite, taking the time to get to know you and decided what type of treatment is going to give the best outcome for your particular situation. Dr. Annie is such a wonderful eye doctor. I have always had trouble with my contacts and she took the time to have me try 3 different sets over a 2 week period. Her patience and determination to get me into something comfortable and to improve my vision was so appreciated. My eyes are not as dry,my vision is better and I can wear them all day and night with no discomfort. I am so glad she offered other lenses for me to try.

The Best Experience one could have at an optometrist. Fast, Friendly, and courteous. I usually dread getting a new Set of glasses or visiting the optometrist, but this was a great experience and I cannot recommend them enough. They have the newest equipment and technology to make the appointments fast and high tech, and the best part hands down was the updated Eye pressure testing to not require the airpuff that I usually have to take a xanex to handle. Their glasses selection was quite vast with a number of great options, and helpful staff when looking around despite my lacking of specifics.

My experience with the Eye Department blew away my expectations. Yesterday I found this office as a need for a last minute, emergency eye appointment. A sudden loss of vision almost entirely led up to, what I was unfamiliar with, a very intense migraine. Even though Doctor Bacon was pretty certain, she was incredibly caring and still ran tests to make sure it wasnt something more serious. Even with my debilitated state, the whole entire staff was nothing short of hospitable, making me feel incredibly comfortable, especially regarding the circumstances. I was cared for and looked after while I needed help and the exams were incredibly easy and helpful. I could not recommend this office more and feel so grateful for the assistance and kindness that was displayed. Best service I have ever received by a landslide!

The Eye Department made getting glasses a genuinely great experience. The staff is knowledgeable and helped me pick out a style that I really loved. Highly recommend coming here!

Dr Annie is AMAZING! She works with you by modifying your glasses for sports even when you have astigmatism and prior surgeries! I can still do what I love thanks to her!

Recently got frustrated with my glasses again and decided to go back to Dr. Annie after years of using another optometrist in town.Despite remaining a bad candidate for lasik, I can see sharply at all distances again and without taking off my glasses...Highly recommended, nice new facility with friendly staff and a focus on getting it right!

Unfortunately, parking at this location leaves much to be desired. I received a 45.00 parking ticket when there was an open space directly across from me. I need to mention that I’m visiting from Nebraska and did not fully realize the extent of the “parking game” in play here. Everyone, please take note- these businesses have only two available parking spaces per business! Evidently the girl at the front desk of The Eye Dept. is not busy enough seeing patients but instead has enough time to stand around and phone in complaints regarding parking. Super disappointing to know that people at this location are not willing to walk next door and ask the “offender” to politely move their vehicle. This behavior might be the reason that theirs were the only open parking spaces!

I have been seeing Dr. Annie for years and I love her very friendly and positive attitude. She is a great optometrist and all of her staff at the Eye Department are wonderful as well. I would highly recommend seeing Dr. Annie for your eyecare needs!
