Ive been torn on whether to post this as my appt was a while ago, but finally decided I should. Had an eye exam not too long after moving to Portland. The exam itself seemed fine and went off without a concern. Dr. Murray recommended a procedure (cant remember the name of it) due to a family history of glaucoma. Procedure is a couple hundred which I did not have at the time. I thanked him for his recommendation and told him Id call him to schedule it when I was able to. Cut to maybe 3 days later and he calls me after business hours while Im making dinner asking me to schedule the appointment. I politely brushed it off as not a good time and said Id call back later. He pushed back a little and I just repeated that Id call him back at some point. So maybe a few days later he calls me again, and again it was after hours while Im eating dinner with my husband. I tell him its not a good time and that I will call him back to schedule when I can. He starts asking me why, I try to make excuses like Im busy, work is busy and its hard to take time off for appts....just anything to get this guy off the phone. He starts asking me personal questions about my work and why I cant take time off. Then he gets really creepy talking about opening his shop just for me after hours so he can do the procedure. I finally had enough and told him that I find his manner highly inappropriate and that I will not be going back to him. He threatens to send me a certified letter saying I need the procedure and I hang up. Call back the next day to tell his secretary my experience and that I find him creepy, wont be going back and he can save his certified letter. She gives a long sigh and goes...I get it. She clearly had heard similar things before.
I am giving this man one star for the fact that he poked around at my eyeballs for half an hour and gave me one months worth of contacts out of the six months I had ordered back in February. When I arrived at my appointment he wasnt even there. The door to his office was unlocked, all the lights off, no one to be found. My appointment was earlier in the morning and there had been a recent snow storm so I excused his tardiness. He arrives. Dawdles around for ten more minutes. Drinks orange juice, finishes off his breakfast and doesnt bother to wash his hands or put on gloves by the time he gets around to the eye exam. His office was a mess. Peoples files were out for anyone to see and everything was very disorganized. When it was finally time to pay he gave me some random price off the top of his head which included 6 months worth of contacts, the exam itself, and one pair of new contacts I could leave with that day. The total cost was $390. My mother called over the phone to pay the three hundred dollars with a debit card. He wrote down her card number, expiration date and all, and I had to tell him to give me the paper back so I could shred it.I dont hear from him for a couple months. When I called it went straight to voicemail. I finally got one months worth of contacts (1 pair of contacts) a couple months ago. He asked me if I had more contacts coming, I said yes, five more months. He said he will call me when they come in. I just left him another message today which Im sure he wont acknowledge.I went to this guy out of desperation and for lack of research. It has turned out to be an ongoing joke at my expense. Hopefully this issue gets resolved in a timely and appropriate manner.I also just noticed that all the negative reviews that I read after the fact have all mysteriously disappeared. Cheers.
Great service. Very polite will go back again
I had my exam December 28th 2018. It is now March 21st and I have still not received the contacts I ordered on that day. The doctor was an hour late to my appointment and proceeded to conduct the exam without sanitizing any equipment beforehand. I have called numerous times asking where my contacts were and he said he was still waiting on my insurance. (even though he put through the sale while I was in his office during my visit.) I have no idea what that even means. When I gave him my name he said Doesnt ring any bells. What kind of world is he living in? He shouldnt even be practicing as far as Im concerned. Worst experience Ive ever had.
I wrote a very long review about the terrible experience I had at Eyecare Today but like someone before me mentioned, all of his horrible reviews have mysteriously vanished! I dont want someone else to make the mistake I did of going to this poor excuse for an optician, so please dont waste your time at this office!I went to Eyecare Today because it was THE ONLY optician in the area that took my insurance. Long story short: I went in for a routine exam because I wanted to update my glasses/contacts. I chose new glasses, did my appointment (was told I would need heinously expensive contacts due to my poor vision so he gave me a brand of contacts that only a few opticians in the state of Maine carry; a $120 contact lens!), and went home. Called back in about 2 weeks to find out the state of my glasses I was getting a prescription put into. The receptionist didnt know what I was talking about, said I didnt have any glasses there, etc., but apparently Dr. Murray had stepped out, so she couldnt ask him. (Dr Murray later told me that his previous receptionist who did my paperwork had quit her job there abruptly and didnt let anyone know what happened with patients files, etc.). Called back in a few hours to hopefully speak with Dr. Murray, who didnt remember who I was, didnt realize I was a patient, didnt know where my glasses were. Halfway through speaking to me, he changed his story and said that they were sent to the lab and it takes a few weeks to come back. I called back in two weeks and still got basically the same story, but with an added twist this time: the person at the lab is on vacation, so itll be another week before Dr. Murray can ask him about my lenses. I call back in another week (its been a month now) and the lab has no idea about my glasses. Turns out Dr. Murray never sent them in, even though he told me on the phone that they were at the lab waiting to be processed three weeks prior. His company did not put my glasses through correctly for my insurance so I ended up having to pay $200 for my glasses even though it should have been covered by my insurance. I called back a forth time to try and get my glasses/contact prescription faxed to me so that I could finally take my business somewhere else, and they essentially held my prescription hostage: I called 5 times in one day asking them to fax my prescription over because I was trying to order contacts online before I had to be in a wedding and I kept getting the run around with them saying they would do it in 5, 10, 15 mins. I understand that they were busy, but it takes 2 minutes tops to fax something and it took them 9+ hours to do so after CONTINUOUS badgering.
Dr. M is the best!!!!
