Very convenient location, near both MSK and HSS. This a great diner! Lovely pancakes that my husband and I shared as a breakfast dessert. For mains I had the Spinach and Feta omelets w sliced tomatoes on the side instead of potatoes. My husband had the Eggs w Cornbeef Hash. The portions were generous and the staff was attentive and very courteous. We brought half of the food home. My husband is still talking about the pancakes.
Ok diner with a variety of food. Prices are a little high for a diner. They are never crowded.
Liver and onions came in grey broth rather than grilled or fried. Tasted bitter. Lemon meringue pie had a somewhat chemical after taste. I live nearby and should have known better than try this place again.
Large portions of fabulous food. Super friendly and efficient staff.
I was looking for somewhere to get breakfast on my lunch break on a rainy day recently and stumbled on this diner and everything I wanted was available on the breakfast menu..food and coffee was made tasty and perfect . Thanks 👍🏼
The food had been served fast and warm however restaurant is dirty.
Nice diner with good food, generous portions, and good service.
Have been there a number of times and ordered in even more often. Everything is solid. Ago to if you live in the neighborhood for sure.
Great atmosphere and service, endless coffee :)
Good service and food
Been coming here every visit to the city for years. This is my go to. Great food and service.
We walked in for the first time few days ago. The diner looks very old school - in the cool way! The food was inexpensive and yummy. The sweetest Polish lady - Maria served us. She was very sweet and friendly and the service was fast. Well be definitely going back!
The Most Shining STAR ON SECOND AVENUE!!
I had just came out from Memorial Sloan Kattering & I was very hungry since I had no lunch today. Silver Star Dinner happen to be on my way to the bus stop. Went in had me a veggie burger was pretty good and a side order of onion rings which happen to be very thin I believe they were the frozen kind. But they were ok since I had no lunch today. The place is clean and they were courteous. But not a place I would go often.
Ate dinner at the diner the night of the big storm in mid November. It was very quiet because of the weather. The waiter was great and the food was very good. We should have split a dinner as the portions were very generous. We will probably go back the next time we visit the city.
Ordered a Chicken soup, Tea and Toast and it was nearly $16.00. Mind you the bowl of soup was more a serving for a toddler. Not worth the money at all!
The Mexican omelet is very good and always fresh coffee. My wife had the multi grain French toast with fresh berries and she loved it. The service is always good and friendly.
The waiters are so sweet and the food is yummy. My boyfriend and I come here every couple weeks, and they have such delicious cakes. Really good burgers and lamb chops, and huge menu to pick from
The chicken marsala was AWESOME.
Wait staff was competent and attentive if not very friendly. Prices were terrible for what you get. We got two orders of pancakes with fruit and one soda and it came to about $30. And that was one of the cheapest meals on the menu. Atmosphere is alright. Fairly typical Manhattan diner.
I always go here when in north Philly. Great place, always many people, its very clean, bathrooms are clean. Its kosher. Great variety of foods in the menu.
I shared an omelet with a friend although I forget the exact kind it was very good. They have a lot of variety. I also shared an order of Oreo pancakes with my friend and they were scrumptious I loved it! They have breakfast lunch and dinner food types that you can eat at anytime of the day.
Diners are surprisingly hard to come by here in the city that never sleeps. Whats even harder, is finding a Good diner at a good Cali. Silver Star does just that. The food was delicious, the service was quick and pleasant. Me and my friend are diner people and this really fulfilled that scratch for a good diner.
The food is great and the service was good. Its a bit pricey but the portions are big. I had the breakfast burrito with home fries. I had to take the rest home for later. Other dishes like steak sandwich and burgers are good as well. Its a diner with a twist. Very large menu items. Try it.
Good service and no wait on a Sunday morning which was great. Its a cozy spot the food, while fine, is nothing I would write home about.
$15.45 Macaroni that comes with a side of soup. A VERY small side. Ill forgive them because the macaroni was fire. But the staff was old and inflexible.Couldnt clearly communicate that Alfredo Pasta was not on the menu without pointing at things. And being very, very stiff. Verging on impolite but not quite. The atmosphere is.. acceptable but I wouldnt say comforting or warm.Im still unhappy their dinner wasnt a full meal. I dont think Ill come back.
Awesome diner. Big menu. Spacious. Consistently solid and fresh food.
We went to the Silver Star about 9:30 pm Thursday night, 1/24/19. There was hardly anyone there and we sat at the bar. The gentlemen behind the bar were very friendly and we had an entertaining conversation about their homemade baklava, a fish from Hawaii called opa, the NYC fish market, etc. We ate great sandwiches and bought a takeout of baklava, which they wrapped up securely so I could take it on the plane the next day in my purse. Last night when we returned home after a long travel day, we ate the baklava for dessert. It was delicious! Next time we return to NYC we will go back to the Silver Star because it was a wonderful experience. Having their baklava for dessert at home was a great reminder of our very short but enjoyable trip to NYC.
Consistent when making your food. Fast and great service.
NYC Diner. Had breakfast with friends. Very good. Decent coffee. Stayed for almost 2 hours chatting and there was no push for us to leave.
Grate food and service in old style NYC Diner/Restaurant with extensive menu. A little pricy however.
This place is not kid friendly at all. They wouldn’t accommodate us with our 1 year old needing a high chair as we needed to sit at a booth for back issues. The host was unfriendly as soon as he saw we had kids with us. The manager never stepped in as we argued back and forth with the host. The manager didn’t say a word until I asked him to step in and still he said he didn’t know what was happening. He was useless! The hate kids and are mean to people with disabilities disgusting place and staff!
The only knock on this place is that its expensive. You can eat at a nicer restaurant for the same price. However, as diners go the food is quite good, the portions huge, waiters friendly and the dining area quite expansive and with lots of big comfy booths.
Ill pay for good food but this is a joke. Expensive and not good. Wont even serve real maple syrup.
Food is always very good. Have had sandwiches and hot meat dishes. Service is iffy. Today, lunch was quiet but waiters were not attentive; asked 3 times for half n half for my coffee. Had to get up to catch his attention.
Good Food and Friendly Service
The Silver Star LOOKS like a diner. Until you see the right side of the menu. At these prices, the place should be named Golden Star, and have starched linen tablecloths and silk napkins. May be the citys only expense-account diner. Food is... well, diner quality. Quite generous portions, but the smallest wine glasses Ive seen in decades.
On a cold morning, happened to be starving and I walked pass this place. Figure, why not! Overall, ok food and friendly service. Coffee is strong enough to wake me up. Alaskan Benedict is average, good portion. Nothing more nothing less. So so at best!
The french fries are to die for but theyre too pricey as a side dish. And if you take them home and reheat, just forget about it. I would prefer friendlier service, and to not feel rushed.
Well good food..... Good seating......... Great staff... Average service.. Reason being our waiter didnt offer us drinks......
Fast service in bringing out our dishes although our waiter disappeared for a while when we needed him. The food is solid dishes, especially the omlettes but overpriced for a diner! An omelette dish and chicken salad cost us $40 before tax and tip not including any drinks. The chicken salad portion was ok but not enough to justify $20! Would only go if there are no other options around otherwise skip it!
My breakfast sandwich was good. I enjoyed the coffee as well. The service was quick and friendly.
Service is awful. On the menu they state that they can refuse you service for not buying over 11$ worth of food. So if you want to order coffee and a cake, there is a chance they will kick you out. This is odd considering they call themselves cafe in addition to being a restaurant. The menu also states that if you share one dish with the person you came with, they will charge you an additional 5$ just for splitting a dish. When we arrived my wife and I were seated in a comfortable booth . We ordered a milkshake, cappuccino and marble pound cake. Upon taking our order the waiter changed our seat to a less than comfortable one. The pound cake they brought us was wrapped in its plastic wrap . The cappuccino and milkshake were just ok.In conclusion, I would not come here again . Very bad service and the owner manager is quite stingy.
Traditional Greek restaurant. Food is high quality, with generous portions and nicely prepared. Along with a friendly professional staff and reasonable prices, this is a great neighborhood restaurant.
Great fast service. My go to away from home.
Best Greek salad Ive had in my life. Try it, itll make you a better person.
-If you want to surround yourself with negative energy through uneducated stuff..-If you want to eat piece of garbic..-If you want to over pay.. then yes you may try..All the workers are so rude and without respect. BE AWARE AND STAY AWAY HERE
Good fresh food, large portions. Expensive for a diner. Old fashioned waiters---nice & efficient but a little brusque & busy! (But, have to say, quick with infinite coffee refills.)
I have been coming here for years. Good food and large portions. I stick with the basics, burgers, fries, soup. For breakfast, Pancakes or eggs with all the sides included. I live across the street and delivery is within 5 minutes usually.
Turkey sandwich was dry old and unedible. Poor treatment in customer service. 24/7 joint that does not get cleaned properly. Left not feeling good at all.
Great service. Food good and fresh.
Terrific NYC coffee shop that Ive been having breakfast at for years. I can speak for cheese omelet and side of bacon. Very good. Service sort of designed by Woody Allen
Food and service very good. A bit pricey.
What a great place! Delicious reasonably priced meals; well maybe...will be going back if around the area.
Had lunch here twice and both meals were enjoyable. Service is good, too.
The staff is very friendly and the food was great
Great neighborhood diner - coffee comes quickly (as does a glass of water for the hangover) and breakfast plates are great standby faves. Not epic dining, but hey youve got to take a break from Daniel and Jojo every so often, right?
Expensive diner. Ordered eggs benedict, got 2 eggs over easy on an English muffin with cheese sauce poured all over. They didnt even poach the egg or provide hollandaise sauce.
Great place. Delishous food.
Good service. Good food. Reasonable price.
Classic diner vibez. Was there later in the evening, it was pretty dead. Service was friendly and our food came quick. The reuben was very big/filling. Everything seemed decently priced.
For breakfast. Excellent. Great service. Food was good and reasonably priced.
Service was great, food came out very quickly. Besides that, my Greek salad was pretty bland, overpriced, and didnt even come with Greek dressing. Its a pretty standard diner.
Large corner diner on Second Avenue. Extensive Menu. But no oatmeal? Nice omelets and coffee.
It was a pleasant place to eat. The waiter was also courteous and attentive.
Ate several meals here, all were great and very reasonable prices
First time there and had a nice breakfast
Amazing food service and drinks,Ladies room needs a little TLC
Food is always great and the service is excellent thats when me and the wife always go there
Friendly,attentive staff,good food,drinksGreat get-together diner
I Love this place and the people who work here. The food is even better!
Great place for a filling meal and people watching
Amazing staff. The time table for your food is amazingly fast.
Great dinner, great food open 7days 24 hours a day
Waiters were nice with the everyday stuff, but being a tourist and not understanding how payment and tipping works, they seemed to lose themselves. So i had to wait at least 5 minutes to pay, they were more or less rude, plus the pancakes werent good at all. Its how boredom probably tastes.
Solid diner, and fast refills on coffee!
Wonderful diner, great food, great feel. Enjoyable atmosphere.
Ive been a few times now, while at MSK and the food is good. The service is prompt. Great for brunch or lunch.
Solid diner food and nice service. I wasnt expecting a lengthwise cut sausage on my sausage egg and cheese sandwich, but it worked. Yeah, it worked.
FOOD IS OK BUT OVERPRICED
Good service good prices
I am a very picky eater but the stuffed filet with crabmeat is to die for!!!! Its well seasoned with perfection!!! For desert I had the strawberry cheese cake which was really good also!! thumbs up!!!!
Great food. Very reasonable. Too bad its no longer 24/7.
I don’t mind paying for good food. I wound up paying, but not for good food.
Great Grilled Chicken Caesar wrap in whole wheat wrap with lettuce and tomato served warm with French fries. Good size portion-couldnt finish.
Quiet, great service, food perfect.
Solid NYC dinner. Quality ingredients. Some things average, some very good. Service generally very good, but staff can get rushed at mealtime rush hours.
Beyond expensive for mediocre food. 19.20 for egg white, Swiss, avocado omelette with a tiny fruit salad. Hmm.
Good food and good service even though it was very busy Sunday noon with lots of families.
Prices are typical for NYC diners, which means expensive relative to the rest of the country. The food was a little cold, the service was a bit slow.
Excellent place.big .very comfortable good price for very good food
Silverwzre not ckean very slow on a slow nite
Huge portions. great food and waitstaff. would definitely go back
You can sit for hours and not be bothered....better than average diner fare.
Amazing desserts
Super expensive and not worth it at all. They give you a basket of plain non toasted loaf bread with butter packets and sesame sticks when you first sit down, nice gesture but im not sure what im supposed to do with that. I ordered a 19 DOLLAR PANINI that was supposed to be spicy cajun chicken and it was not the least bit spicy or seasoned at all for that matter. Highly disappointed.
