Open for indoor dining only this place has an extensive all American dinner menu that will cover a spectrum of culinary needs: meat, vegetarian, healthy, light meals, salads, sweet classics, Italian, American classics and Mexican. Its all there, big portions, prices are as expected in the heart of the upper east side. The air was a bit stuffy for us but the staff were nice and helpful and the food was great. It does get busy here in peak times so come prepared or reserve ahead of time.
Classic diner with a mile long menu. Quick service and big portions.
Santa Fe Salad is the most filling salad Ive ever had. Amazingly fresh ingredients and its huge! π€€
Great food, excellent service, big portions (bring your appetite). We were here for dinner - breakfast is good, too.
The food is ok..The last 3 times Ive been in for breakfast the service has been poor..today I asked for a refill of water (yes, you have to ask, they dont automatically replenish)The waiter got extremely annoyed with me and barked at me because I asked him AGAIN for more water. They lost a good customer..I live in the neighborhhod and tip well..pretty low maintenance customer.. The nastiness of the waiter this morning and on other occasions ruined my experience..I will not return
Food was ok. Lamb burger was slightly overcooked, fries were a bit dry and brussel sprouts were bland. For drinks I had their spritz and that was very good.
Great food, great service nice array of deserts as well. If u dont mind spending a little its a wonderful spot.
Food is good and comes out fast. Staff is friendly. Decent prices for ues.
Good food good service. Huuuge menu
Very good food all around. My friend had the French toast, it was amazing! Roasted chicken was yummy as well. Good service and I feel they did better than most with sanitizing for covid. Would recommend.
Pretty good customer service. Food options and quality are exceptional (Irish breakfast)!! Well be back for more.
Great service! Management and staff treat you like family!
Tasty food and cozy place.
Ordered online and picked up at a certain time. I had my take away at my specified time. So convenient compared to my last visit.
I enjoyed my food here. Typical diner fair and probably will be back just because of convenience. But the service here was TERRIBLE. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and there were not a lot of people in the restaurant.A server came over fairly quickly to take my order for drinks and food, but after that, I never saw him again. He did not come to check on us during our meal. He did not give us any refills. And he also could not be found until we eventually got the check. When we got the check, I finally had the opportunity to ask my server for a refill on my water. But to only get one refill, and to get it as I am receiving my check and preparing to leave, well after my food has been taken away is completely unacceptable. Especially in a nearly empty restaurant.Happy to update my review following an ensuing visit if the service is better. Some other reviews have touted good service here, so maybe it was just an off-day. Will update with any changes.
Nice and casual!
It was quite good for a diner
Very solid diner. Quick efficient and friendly service. I came for breakfast and wasnt too horrified by the price.
I am giving 2 stars because the food is actually really good. However, the service was dreadful! And that is me and my friends being nice. The servers were just rude. Before we sat down they were asking us what we wanted to eat and drink (yes, this is a literal account). Further more, while we still had our forks in our hands a half our meals on our plates, the servers and bus boys asked us if we wanted the check. After shooing them away several times (and within a 12 minute period, yes- I timed it.), they decided they would no longer be subtle and leave the check on the table; proceeding to clean up our dishes while we were still eating and drinking our coffee. From beginning to end we were in the restaurant for 55 minutes. Including our meal time, the countless times we were harassed a few trips to the rest room. I am not expecting them to let us stay all day, but for Petes sakes I expected to be able to drink my coffee without someone pulling it out of my hand. Great food bad service.
Ate there on Christmas day and me and my family enjoyed everything. Service was a little slow but overall place was great. Food excellent and deserts were great. Id definitely go back as a first choice.
Very solid spot. Great food selection for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Service is also fantastic. Definitely the best diner-style restaurant in the area by far.
Great food..always fresh..fast delivery service..Great customer service too!
The absolute best French toast and waffles!! We really enjoyed our Sunday morning breakfast here. The portions are large and the wait staff were friendly and very efficient. I would definitely go again.
Good food, and quick service for Lunch. Not much more you can ask for.Ordered the GK Flat bread and enjoyed it.
Nice clean place. Good food. Staff is very nice.
Great diner! Ive been coming here for years, and they consistently have quick service and good food.
The food is great. Albert who waited on us is the best! So genuinely enthusiastic and friendly. The very embodiment of professionalism.
Had breakfast a couple times here now. Friendly staff, good prices, large portions, and a nice place overall. The food is okay. Whatd you expect for a diner. As good as youd make yourself at home. Please note that this place does not cater to vegans. There is no soy, almond, coconut or rice milk of any kind. Just regular and half and half. And if you fancy a pancake breakfast they have no maple syrup. Just synthetic syrup.
Solid diner food and reasonable prices. Kind and thoughtful serving staff.
Great diner experience. Big menu to choosefrom. Big windows in the front makes it fun to people watch while your scarfing down good food.
Ordered through seamless - was delivered with hair in the food & the restaurant refused to refund. Would not recommend going here.
Love this diner. Its been in the neighborhood forever and has the best window seating and quick service. Everything youd expect from a diner!
Great place i love it! The food is very tasty and the portions very large for the price. Staff is very friendly and helpful so there is not much more to ask for. I totally recommend it.
First time here, good coffee I had a ham and cheese omelet very good and the homefrys are crisp just like I like. My wife had the short stack pancakes and enjoyed them. We will be back.
I love to order-in from GK. Consistently good diner food. Wonderful friendly staff and I like to chat with the cashier lady. Shes super nice.
Food was average at best. Server really seemed bothered by dealing with people, made it difficult to add extra items to our order. We tried to spend about $20 more than we did but gave up as it was to difficult trying to get any help from him. It was busy, but not so busy that they shouldnt have been able to sell food. Real waste of time and money.
Love this place. Have been going here since my teenage years. Always nice people and no frills dishes.
I ordered online on Seamless. My order had food worth up to $50, and one of the items was βPremium Orange Juiceβ this item was offered in two options, small and large. The large was $6.25, and I believed that itβd be a βlargeβ orange juice, but instead I received a regular medium sized plastic cup filled with orange juice. For $6.25? That price is higher than a gallon of orange juice in any store in the entire country, and no high end restaurant charges you that amount in the upper east side - I know because Iβve noticed!I told Seamless and they refunded me, thatβs the least they can do when restaurants in their page donβt deliver what they promote. But unfortunately they cannot make the restaurant change their prices. And this place might be a nice place to sit down and eat - Iβve been there many times. It is not the right place to order online, as it turns out I scrolled down their Seamless page after this incident, and they have more than just one inconcistency with their prices there!
Staff seem irritated when I asked to warm the soup up
Was great in the 70 s.the 80 s the 90 s OMG this place is just not replaceable. ...always getting better..
The food is not organic or locally sourced or anything like that--Green Kitchen is just the name of the place and a color theme in the decor. Its a typical NYC diner as far as the menu. The decor is more pleasant than most diners, high ceilings and lots of windows and light. The food is typical diner fare. The service is much below average. We were there today on Sunday after the lunch rush and the staff wasnt busy at all. I was there to meet two other people and the hostess was not at all helpful although when I asked if I could be seated while I waited she pointed to the nearest table. The bus staff was helpful as far as refilling beverages when asked but the waitress made several errors regarding what was ordered vs. what was served and never once checked on us or offered refills even when it was obvious that our water glasses and coffee mugs were empty. Our order was taken promptly and served promptly but we had to ask for the check and ask for it to be paid. The staff was never friendly and never ever smiled although they were not openly rude, just very, very indifferent. The brunch specials were all egg-based except for the waffles, pancakes, and french toast. The food itself was slightly above average for a diner--the salad, breakfast burrito, and burger we ordered were all tasty and well-prepared. One side dish was omitted, we had to flag down the waitress for condiments, we had to take silverware from a nearby table, and there was a mix-up over the only dessert (included with the brunch special burrito) and the to-go container requested. Fortunately we were able to get the bus staff to refill our beverages or we would have gone thirsty on this hot day. Prices were average to a little bit high and lunch for three with no extras except for a cup of coffee came to over $50.With so many restaurants in the neighborhood, there must be better choices nearby for Sunday brunch.
Good neighborhood diner especially with 3 star diner closing down across the street.
I have visited more than one occasion. The food is always great. π
First, to be clear its a diner not a restaurant. We find the food pretty good -- but the service kind of spotty and the bathrooms kind of bad.In terms of service, you could look around 10 times before catching someones attention. So yes, service is often a problem.Diners are usually pretty well lit. The place itself is clean, although the bathrooms are usually in need of a real cleaning. The bathrooms can be pretty gross. Not much better than Chinatown. Im usually glad to get out of the bathroom. Walking by the kitchen and peeking in is kind of the same feeling. They have seating in a windowed solarium area. All in, its 3-4 stars but its definitely a diner and not a restaurant. They should keep the place cleaner.
The people are super nice and they even will song happy birthday go you! The food is very good!!
This place has great food for great prices. Solid diner place. Clean, food is fresh, lots of options.
Best dinner in NYC highly recommend the lemon Drop Soupβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Very good diner. Been there for a long time now. Legend has it they used to sell bud thatβs why itβs called Green Kitchen, because itβs not because the place is βgreenβ or healthy, but who knows? Could be BS, I heard that in like 10th grade.
Very friendly staff, great food, great ambiance. Just a very nice relaxing place to grab a good quality breakfast
Solid diner food, good service. Price is slightly high, but not out of line for the city. The atmosphere is nicer than most diners. The omelettes are well composed and the potatoes are good. The eggplant parmesan dinner is a great deal considering all the food you get. Its not up to your nonnas standard, but better than most frozen, institutional, or diner.
Great menu selection. They have everything, and prices are fantastic for the amount of food served. We especially enjoyed their mac and cheese.
Polite service and consistently good food over the span of years Ive been going here no matter what time I came.
Green Kitchen is a great spot for basic American food and drinks. Good wait staff and friendly bartenders.
Food good,service ok, prices fair
Good food and good service. Not too crowded at my time. Fair price.
Id give zero stars if it was possible. What is more repulsive than the food at this establishment, is its management, and specifically owner. I placed an order through Seamless for a Grilled Chicken Triple Decker Sandwich, which is described as of the time of this review: Served with avocado, lettuce, and tomato. After waiting an hour (i live 3 minutes away), i received a sandwich with bacon and no avocado. I do not eat bacon, and regardless, it was not what i ordered. I called them up to let them know, and spoke first to the manager and then the owner. They told me i ordered the wrong thing, and they arent going to do anything about it. Ended up throwing it all to the trash, and probably for the best.Terrible front of house in a food establishment most of the time means terrible standards in the back also. I wouldnt want to know what goes on in there. Easily my last time ever ordering from here, and you can bet i am disputing the charge on my card.
I had an appointment in the area where I arrived too early, stopped by this place while waiting to grab a bite and recharge phone.First off, no wall outlets available, at least thats what I was told. Thats ok. I looked through menu and was pleased to see semi healthy options for food.I ordered and energy wrap, egg whites and cheese in a whole wheat wrap and a mop side of brown rice. It was not good at all. Egg looked like ones in McDonalds sandwich, rice was incredibly greasy and not tasty at all. Waiter seemed annoyed and very hard to reach. In the end I just went to the entry desk and took care of check etc myself. Was not a pleasant experience.
Great service, friendly staff. Very clean . Great food.
Went there for happy hour. Perfect place to watch a sporting event and have good bar food. The specials were good prices.
Standard Greek Diner. There are many better choices in the city.
Staff is nice, food is good....Green kitchen is not my first choice but definitely my top 10
Good food. Old school dinner feel.Good service.
Pretty average diner, Im not sure exactly why people go nuts for this place. I had the breakfast tacos which were decent but had gross fake cheese. My husband had the hungryman and the french toast was really tasty and bacon cooked to perfection. Portions were huge
Better than average diner.Colorado omelet very tasty.Room for stroller too.
Very good diner, food & service, reasonable
The food was great the staff was amazing but I cant give it 5 stars cause the waiter slept with my wife.
Open 24 hours in the Upper East Side.Clean bathrooms.Great food.Whats not to like?
Loved it- super delicious food, breakfast all day with unique and delicious options, very clean, sleek design. Certainly a fun little place for a quick bite!
Excellent service and foodπ!
Service was great, but the food didnt merit a higher rating.
I love love love this place! Friendly staff, great service, reasonable prices, and HUGE portions!!
Enjoy the filet sandwich. Fish is delicious. Service is ok. Nothing worth remembering. The patio area is nice, especially in summer.
The best diner on the UES. Reasonable prices, extremely fast service, delicious food, and a clean & comfortable environment.
A decent diner on the UES, with a huge plus for having a larger space than most and big menu. I love going for their breakfast deals where you can get a huge plate of food for very little $!
Green Kitchen is our most favorite diner in the neighborhood! It is a diner, with nice diner-priced menu, BUT - they offer healthier versions of the traditional diner meals, which I totally love!
Wide range of choices in the menu, large portions, quick and nice service. Only tried the waffles though, but they were good!
Great family restaurant. Quick and friendly service. Something for everyone.
Prices are very reasonable but the food quality is what to expect at this price point. As Diners go, this one is reasonable.
Excellent food, generous portions. Always fresh. Great service.
Good food, fast professional service and, reasonable prices for the Upper East Side.
Best diner in new york city!! Whoever said this place is bad has no idea what theyre talking about. Food is amazing, clean, fast, staff is great. Love this place!
Nice menu. Good service.
24 hours, delivery, one of the best diners left. Excellent burgers and omelets. And fries. And panini. And brownies.
A historical location for The Green Kitchen serving delicious breakfast over 20+ years ago and still today!!!Theres even an official cab respite place on 77th aside the diner so cabbies can come in, grab a great meal and get back to work!!
Almost as good as it was 50 years ago - great lentil soup
My go-to spot for breakfast, awesome omelettes and chocolate chip pancakes. super fast service.
Love this Diner food is excellent and staff is great. Love that I can get a good meal at anytime.
Food was mediocre at best but my biggest problem was with the staff. The waiter gave me credit card to another table, who ended up taking my credit card home because they didnt notice. I didnt get an apology when the mistake was noticed - instead he told me to just sit at my table and wait. When confronted, the waiter said it was not his fault but rather the customers fault for taking my credit card - when in reality, the waiter gave the customer my credit card. At this point, I still had not gotten an apology and they told me to just sit and wait until the customer who took my card came back which is actually not a very great solution because there was no reason for the customer to check his wallet for my credit card unless they were making another purchase in the near future. Awful experience.
Wicked fast take out always solid food and friendly staff
Very busy diner. Still great service. Large portions. They also serve alcoholic beverages.
