The honey oak latte will make anyone feeling grumpy smile. The sweetness is just about right and the baristas do a credible job with their artistry in the cup. One feature I really like is that you can get a real cup over paper waste if you are there to stay. Atmosphere is pleasant and this is a good stopping place.

I went to pick up the coffee beans I ordered yesterday. And I was so excited to try it as soon as I get back to airbnb.I use the hand grinder I carry it around when I am traveling. And do the dripping instead of syphon when I was in Taiwan. And the color is so beautiful, and it has lots of fruit acidity. I love it so much. 😀🤞

Moved to the city a few weeks ago from London, and this has become my go-to spot for feeding my caffeine addiction. The coffee is good and strong, the staff is friendly and chill, the space feels well-ventilated. I like that there is no internet! Better energy. My one suggestion for improvement is that the menu would benefit from some savory / cooked options. But it’s a coffee shop, and they do coffee well, so that’s five stars. ☕️

When I was 7, I got lost while on a family trip. The world was huge and scary. I was cold, surrounded by strangers and unsure where to go.Then I saw my father. He picked me up, hugged me and I felt warm, welcomed, and comfortable. This coffee shop gives that same feeling, but with excellent coffee, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. They have no Wi-Fi or power plugs and it’s still my favorite place to work outside of home.Check it out, and get the breve latte. It’s delicious!

Its one of my favorite spots in Manhattan. Yes, they do have another amazing Grompy cafes but this is my most favorite. Very comfortable, good location, good place to chat over coffee with your friends and relax. Its been almost 10 years since Im back from US but i still miss this place, and next time when Ill be back in NYC, of course i would love to come back there and even suggest my friends to go there ;9 I love this place a lot. I took my mom there once too and she loved it there and misses there, too! (Im originaly from Japan and used to be in US 5 times for home stay and more)

I loved the café, it was super cute and cozy. On the other hand, the food and drinks weren’t too great. Coffee was over roasted and not pleasant at all, and the hibiscus fruit punch tea was bland and unsweetened. The biscuit and croissant I ordered sat in its container all day, and they weren’t warmed up. Will not be going there again.

Sustainability: Some compostable plastics, others no. Heavy plastic waste but they do have a discount for bringing in your own cup and can do hot and cold drinks in glass/ceramic to stay. They try, and with some tweaks could become more sustainable. Would like to see more organic/fair trade products. Overall ok but still a work in progress to eliminate as much waste as possible.Service: Friendly and quick.Drinks: Very good drinks. Flavorful. I enjoyed the vanilla latte and the honey and oat iced latte.Ambiance: Simple ambiance, back room is very Spartanly decorated.Value: One of the most expensive coffee shops I’ve been to. $5.50-6.50 is pricey for a drink, even for a sustainably sourced and iced one in Manhattan.Would come back overall.

A comfy cafe with plenty seats, a cute backyard, friendly staff, many hipsters, but with mediocre pastries and subpar maintenance. Butter croissant has good buttery aroma but is too dry and chewy. Not a well maintained place. Surprised to see a chipped mug which can be easily contaminated with bacteria is still in use in store. Many plants look very dehydrated in the back room.

When I checked the nearest coffee shop, I found this with good review. I know that they have seasons of the month menu so I asked for it. I chose Honey Oat Latte and it is not disappointing at all. The taste and smell of honey and oat are strong, I like it. This is the best coffee I tasted so far in my entire life. My friend likes it too but she prefers a stronger coffee taste and less honey taste. Well... it is a preference.

It’s nice to see people enjoy their coffee and TALK to each other, rather than hog up space for hours on end with their laptops. I’m glad the shop has a strict no laptop zone. A cafe of former glory, in need of a little love.Grumpy pioneered great coffee in NYC. Howard Schultz, the former Starbucks CEO, had a cup of Clover coffee here after walking past and seeing the buzz. He then acquired Clover in 2008.However, while the coffee is still decent, the interior could use a bit of updating. Its well worn, a little dirty seeming in places, and the outdoor furniture could use a refresh. The pastry selection seems to have gotten pretty small.

Super cute location with a good amount of seating compared to a lot of tiny cafes in NYC.Theres seating in the front, back and also their little back yard which is outdoors!! Such a nice space to be outdoors and enjoy coffee when it is nice out. Nice peaceful area that removes your from the hustle and bustle and you dont feel like youre in NYC! They have the usual espresso drink menu and also some teas. Great variety of non dairy milks including oat milk which is the best kind of non dairy milk for espresso drinks imo!! Loved my oat milk latte. Small selection of pastries including gluten free and vegan options (if available at the time).

I feel like a complete hipster writing this, but Café Grumpy is pretty great. I had an excellent flat white here (English expats or people whove spent a large amount of time in London - this is just as good as what you get over there), and the seating space is pleasant, if a little cramped. The no laptops policy gives it a more vibrant feeling, because people are sitting and talking, not glaring at others while attempting to work. Also, Im always a little nervous with the tons of hot drinks + laptops equation. Its a great place to go with a friend, but not one for quiet contemplation.

A reliable spot, spent a lot of time here as its conveniently placed for meetings, mostly good availability for seating (check the Google popularity chart before you schedule your get together) - and the coffee is by and large at grumpy standards. I love the interior space and atmosphere here, but the service has recently been lacking. I’m not going to place blame on the baristas because it seems they are understaffed. Best coffee in Manhattan, though they do enforce a strict no laptop policy. They want to keep it a more casual conversational place, but if its not your cup of tea (or coffee!), then I guess skip it. The best part of the aroma though, it doesnt matter if you get latte or cappuccino, you can always smell the roasted bean.

It can be hard to find places to do deep work in NYC. Some cafes are too crowded, others are distracting by design, and some are too trendy so the foot traffic can get in the way. Cafe Grumpy is nondescript but powerful in its seating, and is much bigger than you might assume. Add to that a friendly staff and a solid menu, and you’ve got a perfect place to crank out those deadlines you are behind on.
