Awesome family owned and run jerky joint. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Spice Moo and Sweet Oinky are top sellers. Family is nice and freindly. Sells quick so get here early then go across the street to Columbus Park and enjoy. Soft, chewy, thin slices of cured meat. Grab a black milk tea and your set.
I always love their prok and beef jerky. They are the best in Chinatown. However, they are not always available. Its better to call them before you visit them ask what they have. But they dont always answer your call neither. Terrible service. I still go there for the jerky until i find something better. Ha
Both the spicy pork and spicy beef jerky are very tasty, and the person working there was so helpful and nice!
After I was introduced to this place, I had to go back! It was so delicious and I just couldn’t stop snacking on them! They sell different flavors whether you like it sweet or spicy, beef or pork. I stayed with the sweet pork, but I’m sure you can’t go wrong with any of the other selections. The items are sold by weight, so you can get as much as you want to buy. The jerky was juicy and warm when I got it, and within a short time the whole bag was eaten. Just pace yourself because it’s so good and before you know it, you’ll want more. This is the best place I’ve found so far, so I will definitely be going back for more, much more!
I have been coming here since I emigrated from Hong Kong at 4 years of age. I am 66 now. The dried beef has not changed in this family owned business in over 60 years. Beef is now $30 per pound. It is worth every cent. I bought 4 lbs this weekend. Unique product that cannot be beat. I have tried every style of jerky available. This is simply, the best.
This is officially known as Jungs Dried Beef, at least thats whats on their business cards. This is not a place I would typically pop into on my own, as all signage is in Chinese, but I am so glad I had the opportunity to taste the deliciousness they call dried pork. Its anything but dry, in fact, its sweet, sticky and warm! Its as if they took the best part of a pork bun (the pork) and captured it in a dried fashion.Deliciously BBQ-like smell inside but be prepared to order by the pound, not piece and may I suggest a few pounds!
My friend talked me into going to this store. The woman behind the counter was extremely friendly and helpful. I bought the sweet beef. She said it was a very popular dish. I was going to try the hot pork but I was too full from eating too many steamed pork buns. The beef was delicious. Not hard like jerky. It is freshly made every day. You could buy the jerky in quarter pound increments. Not expensive at all. About $5 for a quarter of a pound. There are other flavors like angry pork, angry pork jr, sweet beef, hot beef, and a few more. Go to this shop early because they sell out fast.
Passing by this old looking store front, I was told by friend that they sell the best tasting beef Jerky in NYC.I finally got the chance to walk into this no frills establishment on Sunday at 1:30pm. The place seemed very cluttered with random stuff. It reminded me of an episode from the TV show HOARDERS, but I didnt come here for the environment, I came for some beef jerky. When I walked in, all I saw were empty jars in the front. I thought maybe the guy was supposed to get the jerky from the back. But upon asking for some meat, the guy said sold out...come back later. WTF? Damn, I thought to myself...thats how good this jerky is?After walking around, I managed to walk back here at 4:00pm the same day and he had 2 jars filled with jerky. Asked for 1/2 lbs of the spicy beef for $12.Right when I exited, I took a strip, shoved it in my mouth and tried it. Tasted really good! It was spicy but not too overwhelming to take over the natural beef flavor. It does not compare to the beef jerky you buy in grocery stores. The consistency of it was very soft and a little moist from the spicy glaze/flavoring that coated the jerky. Best jerky I ever had.
The jerky is in the $22 range per lb. which sounds on the steep side but I dont know any other place that makes their own jerky and tastes this terrific.WARNING - depending on the day you go there could be ALL jerky available or absolutely none. I suppose this is the downside of being a side family business. You never know what youre going to expect. Also, you never really know what kind of service you will get. The man who greeted us was in happy spirits and definitely helpful. Ive heard other stories not so wonderful. I guess all I can say is GOOD LUCK! haha.On this lucky day of ours they didnt have any of the sweet jerky but they still had some of the HAPPY PORK and ANGRY PORK. We got 3 lbs of the happy pork and 1/2 lb of the angry pork and both are absolutely DELICIOUS. Its well marinated on every piece, perfectly chewy and made to perfection. I really have nothing to complain about the quality of the food.
I really love this place. Ive never had a jerky spot before so I cant say Ive had a ton of fresh, home made jerky, which could sway my opinion. Jung, the owner, is a really nice guy and the jerky is good as well. I agree with some other reviews that the sweet can be a bit too sweet but I think the spicy is perfect, although not very spicy. I usually opt for the jr versions as theyre more chunky and less flat than the originals. Either way definitely worth taking a trip here to stock up on jerky.
This is the best beef jerky I have ever had. The meat is tender and has a much higher moister content than your typical dried beef. Spiced to perfection and deliciously salty.
Such a unique NYC place. Looks like its his home, but the jerky runs out almost daily. Very good jerky.
The last remaining traditional village style preparation of pork sausage, seasoned bacon and duck. The beef jerky in fruit flavor or oyster sauce flavor are excellent but at $30.00 a pound. The beef jerky was addictive, the pound of jerky went out fast.As of 07/20/2019, price per pound for beef jerky was $32.00.
Sweet pork jerky is not the sort of snack I would have voluntarily sought out... until I actually tried some. The jerky here is tender, fresh, and has a great balance of sweet and savory. Next time you are in Chinatown, be sure to seek this place out (the sign on the door says Jungs).
MEAT SHEETS HERE! Come here and fill your bag up with these thin meat squares. Nosh with your friends or just hog em by yourself. You could have em sweet or you can have em spicy. Either way, you wont lose cause youre hold a bag full of win.
I dont normally do jerky, but this spot made me change my mind! I love the sweet pork jerky, is is mouth watering good. A great snack or appetizer for your next soiree. Stop by the NYC institution!
Large jars of jerky, smells wonderful. Dont come in thinking youll buy a couple of pieces, its sold by the weight so you better know how much you want. Its prepared in the traditional way and you may be surprised that the jerky is warm and a bit more tender than you expect. But its delicious, especially the pork jerky which has a sweet savoriness to it.
Straight up hole in the wall. At $22/pound, it could be one of the most expensive beef and pork jerkys ever! But you cant get better than made fresh daily and sold until they sell out. The entrance is a screen door and the goods are kept in glass jars but for some reason it just works! Though it may seem like youll need to speak Chinese to buy anything here, the owner/worker definitely understood some of the English I spoke to him.
Best jerky I’ve ever had. I recommend the spicy.
Finally I found a beef jerky place in New York that reminds me of home in Taiwan. This beef jerky place is a hole in the wall but it is worth every penny. The store is very simple and outdated but it has probably the best jerky I have had outside of Asia.Get the sticky pork jerky because it is warm, moist and flavorful and you cant stop eating it!
Okay beef and pork jerky, but you can find better in Chinatown.
It was only after noticing all the jerky shops in NYC that I realized Ive never even thought to look for these places in SF, having been spoiled by the jerky fare back in Taiwan. But, since I was exploring, and these came up, I thought, why not!Having run out of the spicy beef jerky, I opted for a mixed bag of his spicy pork and sweet pork jerkies, both of which ended up being pretty average: great texture, being just about the right chewiness, but average flavor. I do tend to find that most sweet pork jerkies end up being a little too sweet; on the flip-side, the spicy pork jerky wasnt very spicy at all.Three stars if you live in the area, two stars if youre visiting (aka: not really worth going out of your way for).***Accessibility Info***Venue - Just, very, very barely accessible. Theres a ramp to get in, and just enough space for a regularly sized sports wheelchair to fit through to get to the register. But without enough space to turn inside, your only option is to back out. So, accessible, but difficult. Youre better off asking at the door for what you want.Bathroom - Pretty sure there wasnt one.
I went with high hopes but was disappointed. I would have been more impressed were I not a regular at Malaysia Beef Jerky. Both currently score 25 on Zagat but I would choose the latter any time. MBJ sports two styles of jerky, both to my mind tastier than Pings, and three different meats, and they are 25% less expensive to boot.Id be happy to hear from someone who has tried both and prefers Pings. De gustibus non est disputandum.
Delicious jerky, especially if its just made. Should call ahead of time if you want a big order.
I like their jerky, but it feels odd every time I come in. They dont feel like a a place that sells food. Kind of a cross between a flower shop and general goods store.
Tasty jerky, smells quite interesting inside.
Unparalleled flavor and texture.
The best dried meats
