We got an online offer for our vehicle and went in person to have it appraised. After they appraised it - maybe twenty minutes if that - they confirmed our online offer with no issues. It was much more than any dealer offered us and we didnt have time to sell it privately, so we were extremely happy CarMax offered us so much. The whole process was pretty simple and the employees were pleasant.My only recommendation is go at a time when your lender is still open if youre still financing your vehicle since CarMax has to call them and always make an appointment if you can, especially if you need to come back on a different day.

Great experience! Had the vehicle shipped from another location. Showed up earlier than anticipated. Took the 24 hour test drive and found 1 issue. The issue was repaired by CarMax at their expense. Definitely suggest utilizing the 24 Test Drive and the extended warranty they offer for a piece of mind.

DON’T Do It !!!! Beware I’ve had a bad experience since I bought my car…. First off I got my credit ran multiple times telling the salesman Not to do it because I already had a pre approved !!! We’ll minutes later I get a notification saying I have 9 new inquiries!!!Next I’ve had multiple issues with my car and they half way fix it and now 4 months in I have a oil leak that I had to take to a different dealership to find out about!!!! Which to come to find out was that way when I bought it !!!!which mind you my car has been at the service department multiple times since then for different issues. Just be aware before you buy a car from Carmax you will be sorry/ regret it .. Make sure when you test drive your car take it to the nearest mechanic to be check out it will save you a lot of headache in the long run …cars are overpriced anyway ..look on the dealer rate website it will tell to you beware of this place if they can’t stand behind a car but 3 months that should be the first sign not to buy !!!If the service department would take there time and work on the vehicles like they suppose to instead of being back there looking in the dealership gossiping about the customers Jason maybe you could do you job !!!!

The car we chose was at another Carmax location, and we had it transferred to our local dealership. There were a few unforeseeable glitches that made the transaction take longer than usual. But Ray, our Carmax associate, was awesome and kept us well informed throughout the process. We could not be more happy with our van, and we feel we got a great price.

They dont do all they advertise.I requested the inside of the vehicle be cleaned especially the seats and it was not done. The vehicle was not cleaned in the inside at all. They lost my profile. They gave me 30 day tags which I requested a year tag. Then they said they didnt know why it was done because they didnt off 30 day and charged me another $130... I am going to leave it at this but not happy with service. Make sure you check everything Good.

Getting a car was super easy. Had my 2019 Kia Soul+ shipped to the store. Had a fairly new guy working with me but he was extremely knowledgeable. The experience was great. Only reason its not a 5 star is because my trunk currently wont open but with the warranty, it shouldnt be a huge hassle to fix, just time spent.

Fairly easy and professional process. They were certainly customer oriented. My problem came in because we added an additional accessory/add on to the car. We are buying the car for our daughter and really wanted the blind sensor. We paid to have it added on to the car. We came home and went to the registration site that day and requested an appointment for a 3rd party vendor to install. We were told we would hear back with an appointment time, and have yet to hear back. We have called CarMax twice for help and we have been told someone will call us back, but no one has. We cannot get anyone to take an interest in this and ensure we receive the added feature for which we paid. This is a problem. Either remove the option to buy added feature or follow through.

This was our third purchase of a CarMax vehicle (2018 Ford Ecosport) over an eight year period. The experience with vehicle selection, sales, and processing was simple and very efficient.Service, however, is another thought - more along the two star range. While satisfied with the overall outcome, getting there was a real challenge. Inefficient management of time and the number of vehicles needing attention seemed to be very overwhelming for the CM staff. Over several days, communication was nearly non-existent, unless I initiated such. Waiting to hear an update on parts ordered, or CMs use of an off-site exhaust repair shop, which greatly delayed repair time, was extremely frustrating! Having to call daily with no real progressive info really created some distrust and lack of confidence in their service team and its supervision. Due to unexpected delays, I was able to obtain a loaner car. That helped, but seemed to take away the sense of urgency with the work being performed.While particular appointment was part of the CM free service (a couple of items needed attention following purchase), it does make me feel that any service needs will be handled in a similar way in the future. The Lynchburg, VA location will have to work very hard to earn back my trust and confidence in their service team. We will see what the future holds.

This CarMax is the worst!!! The car I was originally suppose to get was somehow misplaced and was given to another customer. I found another car that was decent. I was told that the things that I needed brought it all in and they still wouldn’t accept it and had to wait 3.5 hours to get an approval. After previously running my credit prior to ensure I was able to afford it. Well once I arrived they proceeded to run my credit again because they couldn’t find the original offer. After the dispute regarding phone verifying they ran my credit again for the 3rd time. At the end of the visit I did walk away with my car but it was such a headache. Not to mention my kids were also tired and hungry. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

Efficiency experts. The purchase itself couldnt be easier. All paperwork flies by on the computer, sign, and done. Bonus for the license plate distribution on site and ready to go with the car! HOWEVER, you will likely be paying a premium price for your choice. If its a unique item that youre searching for, the internet is of course the best way to go. Just be prepared that your ease of searching and buying will cost you a few extra bucks.

My experience with carmax over the phone was great. The salesman was very helpful and efficient. The day I was told to come pick up my car I was assured I would be in and out. I explained that I had an event I had to be at by 4pm and we live an hour and a half from carmax. They said no problem, just need my I.D. proof of employment and insurance verification. There was one thing after another including them telling me my pay stub I had printed out at work was not good enough, had to logon to my payroll account at the dealership and let them print it out. I was 3 hrs late for my event. The tires were dry rotted and was assured they would call me in a few days with a date to come back and get new tires. I still havent heard from anyone.

This would absolutely be zero stars if was allowed. My wife had Honda Fit reserved at this location. Apparently carmax “accidentally” canceled it. New to the area and were about to drop 10K on a car. The associates were zero help with no resolution presented. This was our first experience with CarMax and I’m sure it will be our last. Getting a rental because CarMax dropped the ball in a truly terrible manor. Zero respect for our time, money, or our situation. So many zeros on their side, this would definitely be a zero stars from me! Buyer beware!Reserved a car at 38 K miles. Was told that car was still available but not at the price or the location it was originally reserved at. Asked if we could get that car at the original price we reserved it at to be told “we don’t haggle over the price “. IT ISN’T HAGGLING IF THAT IS THE PRICE ORIGINALLY QOUTED! Was directed to another car in another state with 140K miles. This is an absolute case of bait and switch and is completely illegal!

Both guys I worked with at Carmax were really eager and willing to help me make a decision about buying a car. They worked hard to find me the perfect fit. The car I bought had a few scratches on it and had it newly painted within a week. They made sure I was satisfied with my car, even called me a few days later to make sure I was still happy. They are awesome and I highly recommend you buy a car with them!

Experience was quick and easy. Ive never had a car buying experience go so smooth. There was no pressure from any of the sales associates, at anytime. Sold my old car to them as well, and they gave me well above what I thought they would. They have my business from now on.

Everybody was very nice and made things happen to get us preapproved and moved things along once we arrived and test drove the car. There were two negatives; CarMax was not willing to transfer the car, so my wife and I had to drive 2 hours each way (Richmond to Lynchburg) to see and purchase the car, and the electronic document signing app did not work properly, so after 3 attempts to sign electronically, we ended up having to wait for the forms to be printed so that we could sign them manually. These 2 issues created a very late night for us. But to reiterate, everyone we worked with; Sarah in the Customer Service Center, and Ray at the Lynchburg location were wonderful to work with.

My experience at CarMax of Lynchburg Va was amazing! I dreaded the car buying venture due to pushy sales reps, but at CarMax there was no pressure to buy. Our sales rep Caleb was amazing! He gave me and my husband time to discuss without being there at all times he gave us our space. That is one of the big reasons why I bought through them also I love my new car! The representatives that I worked were with kind and knowledgeable. Carmax offered me more then any other company for my vehicle and they gave me the same amount as what they had offered online. They were not pushy in any way. I had a wonderful experience selling my car with Carmax until.....It was time for me to actually receive the payment. Carmax does not mention anywhere on their sites or while speaking with them that they do not pay you with a regular, cashable check. They pay with a Bank Draft. You are only able to deposit it into your own bank account and the banks are required to put a hold on Car Maxs bank drafts for 5 days. I do not have a traditional bank account. I have spent 5 days now already trying to receive my payment. I have even gone to Wells Fargo were the Bank Draft is drawn off of and had to spend more money to open an account with them just to deposit the Bank Draft and they have to hold it for 5 additional days before they can release the money. Wells Fargo said that is the agreement that they have with Carmax.

Service is a little slow and not very personal, but they are usually busy. Its a good place to buy a car if its your first time buying a used car or not really searching for the deal. The staff are well trained and seem to enjoy their work. A pretty safe place to buy a used car with a good selection.

I ordered and paid shipping for a vehicle to be transferred to my local Carmax. Prior to ordering, I asked the Carmax associate to ask some questions to the sending Carmax about the vehicle’s condition. He did and received responses that did not highlight any problems.Two weeks later when the vehicle arrived and was prepped and inspected, I went to pick it up.Now I have purchased two cars previously from Carmax (not this location) and they were in great condition, detailed, and looked like new. Carmax is not the least expensive used car retailer, but I was always willing to pay more for the service and excellent vehicle condition. This car looked like I bought it at the local “buy here, pay here” dog show. The vehicle I ordered was dirty inside and out, low on coolant, had minor scratches on the body, and most noticeably, the wheels had significant curb damage.When I spoke with the manager, he came out, looked at the car and agreed it was below Carmax’s standard. He promised to take care of everything and gave me a loaner vehicle until the car was ready. Two weeks later, it was. Everything was taken care of and I was pleased.Although this should have never happened in the first place, I credit the store manager for making it right.

I have purchased 3 cars from CarMax in the last 3 years. Never again. First cars navigation system was toast when I drove it off the lot. I had never had navigation so I didnt know what to check. Thankfully the extended warranty as the replacement part was $3,500.Second car was fine mechanically just needed all tires replaced within the year because of dry rot! My son says the car is still running great.I bought 3rd car in January 2020, not because I wanted a new car but because of my husbands health issues getting him in and out of my car. Once the weather turned warm, we discovered that the AC was not working, all the freon was gone. I now have to have another expensive repair (only $1,800) this time. Luckily we purchased the extended warranty.Now, lets talk about MaxCare. Both times Ive had to use this, my mechanic has had to fight to get them to authorize the repair. If its covered under the warranty, you should not have to fight to get it paid.Beware people! If its an expensive repair, they wont fix it before they put it out on the lot.

The process took too long. I completed all my info over the phone and then when the car arrived, I had to do it all over again. My financing options also changed after I got there. Payments were higher. I got there at 5:15 and it was after 9:30 when I left.

Finding and purchasing my car through CarMax was as easy as it gets. They even run the VIN for any recalls before you finalize purchase. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable in getting the vehicle transferred, having my test drive and explaining everything. Lowest stress vehicle purchase in over 40 years. Very pleased with the price, the sales process, the staff. Everything was done and I drove away in my Subaru! I recommend and would definitely go through them again.
