Great work, my trans on my 2014 Ford Escape was toast after only 103k . Ford wouldn’t do anything . So I took it to Cottman in Durham. They were very patient with me, and helped me get it back on the road. I have been very pleased so far, and will def use them for future service to my trans. I highly recommend them!

At the recommendation of my usual auto maintenance shop, I had my 2006 Lexus LX 470 towed here because I thought I had a transmission problem. Jody and his team diagnosed that the problem was not a transmission issue. He tried to locate the correct part for me at a reasonable cost. Turns out, such parts arent available. I took my ‘95 Chevy truck here expecting to find a big transmission issue. They called back the same day to say that it was actually a different problem and referred me back to my regular mechanic to fix it which saved me money. They were honest and helpful. I contacted Cottman while on a road trip from VA to NC. The dashboard notification came on and stated “transmission service”, needless to say we were concerned, driving in my mothers vehicle and in a state we were unfamiliar with…a long way from home in NJ. I spoke with Jodie and explained our situation. He was upfront and stated that they were booked but that he would see what he could do for us since we were just passing by. He told us to stop in and speak with Taylor and he would be able to diagnose the problem, either a serious transmission issue or a minimal problem that could possibly get us to our destination. We were pleasantly surprised that the diagnose was even better than expected, a dashboard update that could only be done at the dealership and that we had nothing to worry about. He even went on to explain the reasoning for why the vehicles indicate an issue when there technically isn’t one. He was genuinely nice and the type of person that exemplifies true customer service. A++++ service and if we are ever passing through and happen to need their service (I hope not) I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I was having what I assumed was a transmission issue. I called Cottman of Durham, spoke to Jody, and informed him that I needed a diagnostics check per my extended warranty. Jody proceeded to explain the warranty process better than the company rep who sold me the coverage. He informed me that because of the warranty process, I might be without my vehicle for a little while. When I arrived to drop off my car, I was told they would get to my vehicle next day. I left it there confident that the staff knew what they were doing. True to his word, I got a phone call from Jody (before 24hrs had passed) telling me what the issue was and how they resolved it. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for quality service from knowledgeable people. A BIG thank you to Jody and staff. Definitely gained a repeat customer!

They professionally checked my transmission at no cost. They honestly diagnosed my drive train issues as shaft related and fixed it at a very reasonable cost. Went to a mechanic after hearing a loud bang with a subsequent grinding noise in my suv. They gave me a list of issues that needed fixing regarding the transmission and I decided to bring it to Cottman for a second opinion. They reassured me that it wasnt the transmission but simply a part that broke loose and was rubbing while I drove. They fixed it free of charge and wouldnt let me pay them for their time. I appreciate the honesty and would definitely be back in the future.

What a rare and wonderful experience we had with Cottman transmission. After calling around town to price check a transmission replacement, we chose Cottman because their receptionist was kind and patient and explained everything to me in terms I understood. They offer a free check to make sure that what you think is wrong is actually wrong. We dropped off our car to two very friendly and knowledgeable gentleman and in less than 24 hours they had called us back with the results. Turns out we don’t need an expensive transmission rebuild - it was something smaller. And not only did they honestly diagnose and communicate that message, but they took it one step further and helped connect me with a mechanic in town who could help. They called three places to see who could fit us in and explain exactly what was wrong. AND THEN they offered to drive our car to the mechanic for us so we we wouldn’t have to drive out. They treated us exceptionally well and we will definitely be back if need be. Please bring your business to Cottman. You will not be disappointed.

We were stumped when we took our car to Cottman. We came on a referral from NTB in Durham because they were their transmission guys and could help us diagnose why our engine was randomly dropping RPMs while driving. They took the car, test drove it, called another shop for advice, and finally got us answers!! The folks here are timely, dedicated to finding answers, and mindful to keep the customers cost as low as possible. Would definitely recommend these guys for your car troubles!

My entire experience with Cottman was awesome. I originally went to Carmedix in Durham and they stated I needed roughly $9,000 worth of work including a new transmission, transfer case and other components. I got a second opinion from Cottman and they saved me from replacing parts that I didnt need to replace and spending almost 2x as much on my repairs.From the time I called I was treated with a high level of service, everyone was kind and friendly, professional, and they are highly knowledgeable when it comes to transmissions. From the front desk, technicians and the general manger Jody, they are top notch people and professionals. Cottman is our new go to for transmissions and future auto repairs.

Our 2013 Subaru forester had multiple check engine lights on and was shifting roughly.Two staff Read our check engine lights with their advanced equipment and found that the car actually was 4 quarts low for transmission fluid and replaced the needed 4 quarts of transmission fluid for a total of only $40 instead of the hundred dollar diagnostic fee we had been quoted at other places and the possibility someone would have tried to sell us a new multiple thousand dollar transmission. Safe to say we are super thrilled with their honesty and workmanship and highly recommend them

My experience with this business was outstanding. My car was experiencing some unusual noises and I called the shop: Jodie, the owner, answered the phone and probably spent ten minutes of his time helping me determine what could be the problem. Ultimately, I brought the car by their place, where they disassembled it to an amount they determined they could reassemble. Within the day, they gave me an official diagnosis with options and the pricing— and an honest opinion that it’d be in my best interest to get something else. All of this? $0.00. I would give them 10 stars if possible. We were bracing for a transmission replacement after we dropped our van off for diagnosis. The van was test driven by 3 separate mechanics. The consensuses was that it wasnt the transmission, the trouble was on the engine side. An ignition coil replacement was suggested as it is a problems with our make and model van. Handy hubby bought one for $59 and replaced the coil. That was the fix. We could have been told that we needed a transmission replacement and wed never know the difference. The honesty and ethics of this business are stellar!

I received excellent service from Cottman’s today6/15/21. The owner took time to explain everything in detail to me. This was especially important to me being a woman. It’s hard to trust mechanic shops because they try to get over but at Cottman’s this was not the case at all. They fixed the problem with my transmission.Very trust worth company, fast, efficient, great customer service, and they know what they doing. Very grateful for this company. You will not be disappointed in this company so don’t hesitate to take your car in.

I contacted them by phone concerning a possible service request and the staff I spoke with were knowledgeable about the possibility of the service not being needed. They encouraged me to come by for a free service check. Once I arrived, the staff did the service check and turned out what I needed wasn’t what I thought. Everyone I spoke with knew their stuff and I felt very comfortable they would treat my car right. I would recommend them highly.

Check engine light popped on and I stopped in to get it checked out. There were cars everywhere, place was packed. Despite all of that, took time out immediately to go and check it out. Transmission was slipping while driving and leak was coming from underneath. While I was there at least 2 more customers and a car got towed in. Left the car there with the expectation that I would be without my car for a while and gonna to cost me a bundle. Received a call at 530 on the same day to see if I could get there by six. Turned out that it was a easy fix and very inexpensive. Point being is these guys went out of their way to make sure my car got the best service while being absolutely slammed. On top of that, they were great at explaining step by step what they were doing and why. I cannot recommend them more and I promise they have gained a customer for life. Great job all around.

If you want outstanding services without overpaying, this is your go-to.Before even touching on the car issues, I have to highlight the remarkable customer experience Jodi and Taylor surprised me with. Upon my arrival, I was instantly greeted with the warmest welcome and was taken care of in no time. And as any other car owner probably knows, auto shops typically try to get you in and out, without involving you in much of whats happening with your vehicle. However, both of them explained EXACTLY whats going on with my truck, showed me where the issue is, and Jodi even took time to draw a picture depicting all the faults in the malfunctioning parts.I have now been to this location four times for various issues, and each of my visits contributed to reassuring me that not all mechanics are crooks. Not only was I charged a fair price, but I was given warranties on all of the parts that were installed. One thing that totally took me by surprise, is that they had several opportunities to overcharge me for an entire part, but instead they pinpointed the exact flaw WITHIN the part and made repairs there rather than carelessly sucking my wallet dry.This was the first time I left an auto shop without feeling like a victim of a daylight robbery, and it was a stress-free experience, to say the least. If only I could get ALL of my car shenanigans taken care of here, I would not go anywhere else at all.DO NOT WASTE TIME AT OTHER AUTO SHOPS! There customer service is on another level. My transmission needed a fluid change. It was done with such personal and professional care, I was blown away. My truck lost 3rd/4th gear while driving and needing to be rebuilt or replaced. After calling around, this Cottman Transmission location did rebuilds in house, with upgraded parts where applicable, was knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. They completed the rebuild within the time frame originally promised, within the price range originally quoted, and the rebuilt transmission works great. Have had multiple long trips across states, driving in the mountains, using 4 wheel low, etc and 0 issues. Transmission is shifting like it was in 97 when it rolled off the assembly line.Highly recommend, honest quality work.Since Google doesnt appear to let me create a 2nd review, for my 2nd visit to this location, I am editing my original post. I took my truck back for AC issues. Cottman spent a ton of time tracing the entire system, wiring harness, up to the control unit in the dash. The final result was a low pressure sure and control unit being faulty. Now a years old intermittent AC issue is gone, AC is working like it is 1997 again, and once again the cost was very reasonable.Still highly recommend!

I love the atmosphere there they gave me good service and they took care of my car and show me what the problem was I just felt real good if anything was to happen to my transmission anytime I will go back to see them. I am a mail carrier and was in need of transmission work fast. Cottman Transmission did an excellent job getting me back on the road even after i still had a problem and my warranty was gone, they saved me a lot of money because they actually fixed it twice and didnt charge me. This place is awesome. They seem very committed to providing honest service and doing the job right the first time. I had an issue with my clutch sticking intermittently, and before they could get my car into the garage, they found that my (brake/clutch) shared reservoir was low and explained to me why this could cause issues. Long story short, it was a fix so simple they didnt even charge me. This is my new go-to for transmission related issues.

Had specific up to date knowledge on my transmission that has been in circulation less than a year. My vehicle was well taken care of and was brought out to me.

My experience with Cottman Transmission was just wonderful! Initially the thought of having a problem with my car’s transmission was worrisome but as soon as Taylor started asking questions and letting me know all the possible reasons my car ‘wouldn’t drive forward’ I started to feel like I’d picked the right place and people to check this problem out. Since I had AAA, the towing was free. Taylor communicated with me consistently and let me know what was going on. He even asked to keep the car one more day to make sure it doesn’t act up again. He didn’t want me to get stuck somewhere! They checked everything and when they couldn’t find a problem, I was given the green light and no charge! The problem was that I had to jump start the car but I was using too low a voltage and this caused the problem in the first place. Since working from home, I haven’t driven the car much and the battery drained. I couldn’t believe how pleasant, knowledgeable and professional this place and the people were to me. Highly recommend!!

I called Cottmans about adding a transmission fluid cooler to my 2020 Canyon; they ordered the part and scheduled the install for the next business day. After lifting the vehicle, the installer discovered a fluid cooler installed from the factory. Who knew?! The folks at Cottmans were gracious and professional about the good news (for me) and refused any payment for their time. Should I ever have transmission issues in the future, Cottmans will be my go to repair shop.

Where part came from (Gboro) they sent wrong part which cause Betty (My truck name) to have to sit over weekend. It was fine tho... Book them if you having transmission issues. The man at the front desk was nice, they answered my questions and got to work on my car quickly. When they realized the issue they spoke with my usual mechanic about it and had me all set to go. Usually people try and scam me into spending money but they didnt do that just did the job, let me know what it was and were nice and had great customer service the whole time. This was by far the best car repair experience I’ve ever had. Extremely welcoming and professional. I dropped my car off this morning thinking there was something going on with my transmission. Jodi did a fantastic job keeping me up-to date and explaining what was going on. Turns out there was nothing wrong with my transmission, instead it was in my axel. Jodi explained this and told me how much it would be. We agreed to get it fixed. After hanging up I thought it may be worth calling back and asking if It was something that needed to get fixed immediately or not, as I needed to save money in the short term. Jodi picked up and quickly explained that this was something that did not require to be fixed immediately and assured me that it would not cause further damage.This kind of honesty and customer service is extremely hard to find in the auto repair world and in general. Taylor and the Cottman transmission team are absolute life savers!! I visited this shop yesterday after several days of transmission problems in my 2016 Honda. Because my car has never had any issues, I was pretty anxious about price. I was extra anxious considering I have an upcoming 15 hour road trip. Taylor greeted me with professionalism and empathy. He assured me that he would fix my car up. And he met and exceeded those promises. My car was fixed and out of the shop in less than 4 hours — and it drives better than ever. The best part?? The repairs cost me under 100$. Other estimates were ranging 300-500$. Needless to say, this is the place to go if you want COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL, AFFORDABLE, TRUSTWORTHY, and KIND service. I thought I had transmission issue. They give a free inspection and took time to go over what they found. some people would have taken you for a ride. Ended up being spark plug issue. I replaced the spark plugs myself and my issue was resolved. Very nice guys. Thankful I did not have the issues I thought I had.

My dads older Buick had a transmission failure and these guys took it in for repair. The estimated range for the cost of repair was accurate. They kept in touch along the way and delivered the car just as promised. Hopefully the transmission will work as well as their customer service. Taylor and Jody were both really helpful.

I came to Cottman with a friend whom thought he was having quiet a few problems. Which in fact he was only having minor problems. Long story short they took it upon themselves to fix the car!!!! The friend couldnt afford to pay for the repairs so they offered to let him make payments... In the midst of him trying to figure out whether he would be able to make a payment today Two workers told him they change their mind they didnt want his money he can just take the car because they truly Care about their customers... We had to have a transmission repaired out of town. One of the CV axles was replaced at the same time. On our way back we experienced some bad shimmy/wiggle/vibration. We took the car to Cottman because the warranty required an ATRA shop to perform the repairs. They identified the problem as the new axle and filed for payment under the warranty. Fast and efficient! I wish that all companies would learn from Cottman. The bar is set pretty high by these guys!

Not Good! I spent $1100,00 because they told me I didnt need a new computer. So I get my van back drive it down to Charlotte and it breaks down again, so I have it towed back only for Cottman to call me and now say I will need another Transmission and pay an additional 2700.00 or 3500.00

A week ago my jetta wouldn’t go in first or reverse gear, after a couple of days of searching on possible problems, I gave up and decided to try Cottman. I have never been to a shop where the owner/operator puts customers needs above profit.Its Very rare indeed especially in the auto mechanic trade world to get a 100% honesty and great work with a guarantee, I have found such a place in Cottmans transmission and auto repair I recommend this shop to everyone!...just ask for Jody..cant go wrong 👌

They went above and beyond for my car, and definitely had the opportunity to rip me off and they did not take it. I am definitely grateful to have found a mechanic I can trust. So, Ive never written a proper review of any organization/business until this one, but I felt it was necessary given my experience with these folks.I called Cottman after my car began to shift erratically and began to feel like it was slipping. I called several places around the Durham/Chapel Hill area and was immediately told that I would need a new transmission or, at the very least, a partial/complete rebuild, running over $3,000. After reading their positive reviews, I called up Cottman as a last-ditch effort to get a different opinion or, hopefully, some explanation as to what was going on with my car. I spoke with Jody (or Jodie? Sorry for the butchered spelling) on the phone and he was incredibly thorough in his explanation of their process and how they approached situations like this. He suggested that I tow my car in to avoid damaging the transmission and that they would perform their free total transmission inspection on my car. After leaving my car with them, they informed me that my transmission was perfectly fine and was shifting at the ideal points and the issue was coming from the sensors controlling the shifting. Somewhere up the line, my car was detecting a heavy engine load and was telling my transmission to stay in a lower gear, which caused the slipping sensation that I was feeling. Since Cottman specializes in transmissions, they recommended me to visit another mechanic to have the car checked out and thoroughly inspected for any problems that could be causing the engine to feel the strain it was under. Sure enough, my secondary catalytic converter was clogged and, after replacing it, the shifting was as smooth as it was before. Their tow cost me around $80-90, and their inspection was free, but their input, willingness to work with my schedule, and priority of making sure the customer is happy and educated was priceless. Having said all of this, I havent had any major repairs done here, but I can assure you, if I ever need to, I will not hesitate to go here or recommend them to anyone else.

I was having a leak from my transmission so I decided to take it by a shop that does transmission work . My car stayed over night I got a call the next morning telling me I was gonna have a pay 1500 dollars for a new transmission so I heard about this great place called Cottman transmission and decided to go there for a second opinion. I’m happy I did because they didn’t find anything wrong with my transmission that was worth 1500 he fixed my car and didn’t charge me anything that was a blessing and I pray that you guys have much success in the future!!!!

Great experience with this shop. Took my truck in with what I was pretty confident was a slipping transmission and let them check it out. They connected diagnosis equipment and discovered that I was having engine misfires, not transmission issues. They then found that my spark plug wires were crossed and that was likely the issue. I was glad to hear that because changing spark plugs and wires is a whole lot cheaper than a transmission. Pleasant experience from start to finish with office employees as well as the mechanic who is very friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you!

Gave Cottman a call based on their excellent google reviews and they did not disappoint. I had a fairly newer car with a transmission that went completely out on me. Jody and Taylor were able to keep me informed on what the problem was and got me to the best resolution at a very reasonable price. I was back up and going very quickly. For anyone with transmission needs, you’re in good hands here!

Jodie helped solve my AC problem in no time and free of charge. He was able to tell me which parted I needed and I was able to assemble it on my own. Super grateful especially since North Carolina summers can be so hot!

Cottman Transmission gave a creditable, trust worthy impression from the first time I called through the next day when my vehicle was ready for pickup! I really thought my Infiniti G25X had several issues and need a new transmission, but after a day and a half Jody gave me piece of mind without breaking the bank.I’m extremely grateful for Cottman’s service team, they were able to diagnose and resolve the issue in a cost efficient and timely manner. Without doubt they treated my vehicle as if it were their own.

This is one of the Best shops Ive ever been to. They got the job done and went above and beyond to accommodate me. I couldnt be more happy. So fast forward till today and my transmission is going out after spending over 2500 to have transportation for my kids its only been 4 months and Im back where I started. Phenomenal. I took my 2004 Ford F250 into the shop to have it looked at due to jerkiness when shifting in between gears. I asked Jody, the owner, about it and he told me a plethora of information. He was very knowledgeable and willing to share his knowledge. I left my truck with him and his crew and they took good care of it and gave me updates while working on it. I only needed a sensor instead of replacing the entire transmission. Wonderful place to work with and would highly recommend people going there if they need transmission work done. I will definitely be returning if I have transmission work that needs to be done in the future. Two thumbs up!!!

I came here and from the first person I spoke to were very helpful and informative. I told these guys my concerns and could of gave me any excuse to work on the car but told it wasnt needed at the time. I drove all the way from Texas and wasnt very familiar with the area and they took great care of my experience. With the free diagnostic I paid nothing and had a professional look at it. I have taken 2 vehicles to cottman in the last 7 years. the price and service is great. I looked at several transmission shops in the area and cottman was the best price. when I got my truck back it shifted better than when it was new. these guys really know transmissions and the polite service was great. The guys at Cottman transmission were honest with me about my car and did everything possible to fix my car and work with me seeing as I knew nothing about cars. Awesome. Highly recommend.

My regular mechanic at Konrad had to replace the front axles on my car because of the vibration while driving. After the axles were replaced, he wasnt completely sure whether the problem was completely gone and he suspected the front differential might be the cause of some tiny vibrations still remaining. He recommended Cottman Transmission. I called them and scheduled an appointment the next day in the morning. The guys did a free diagnostic and told me there is absolutely nothing wrong with a differential or transmission or for that matter with the car. They explained to me that its just a little vibration from the small engine in a quite big car (1.6l engine) and that it is totally normal. I really respect their honesty and professionalism. They didnt try and sell me some work that didnt need to be done and they didnt charge me for the diagnosis either. If I ever have an actual problem with the car, Ill definitely take it to them. Great guys and great service.
