Ilene helped me. She was very informative and detailed oriented. I dont see too many people that will custom fit and go the extra mile as she did. If you want it dont right, theres no better place to get a hitch and lights done. Its worth the ride to get it done here. Its safe and done correctly. RRR
I booked a unit from this location a month and a half in advance. I received a confirmation and also affirmation that someone would call me to confirm availability. No one called until just a couple of days before the scheduled date for pick up and i was told the unit is not available at this location but my reservation was changed to Arlington Heights location (which is much further from where i need it).I tried calling customer service 3 time: the first time i was disconnected or hung up upon after 26 min. The second time i was given another number to call and that was after 24 min of waiting. The last time I waited for 1 hour and 10 min and i gave up.Extremely Unprofessional, I would not recommend going there.Try any other company but this one. Picture attached.
Made a reservation and paid 3 weeks in advance to get a hitch installed.. showed up day of install to be told they don’t have the hitch.. if I could give them - stars I would. Had great experiences with U-Haul usually with everything else but all they had to do was give us a call a few days before so we could have made other accommodations. I WOULD suggest Master Hitch in palatine. They got me installed and was super professional 2 days later. Slightly more expensive but a much better quality hitch and great communication. Don’t bother getting installed here
We rented Uhall but needed Dollies from this store. The store manager Ilene has been super helpful and enthusiastic in assisting us in times of need. I highly recommended her and Uhall for their customer service here. Thank you, Ilene!
Check the equipment thoroughly because the chances of you being break down are high. I rented a truck with a rusted hand break. Unfortunately, me being safe I applied the hand brake it got stuck. It took 2 hours for them to come and fix it. They overcharged me on my final payment which I had to go to their uhal office and dispute.
I used self pick up. It was really easy and fast. Car was clean enough and I havent gotten any problem during the trip and drop off time. They are using technology which is faster and easier. You can also park your car over there and its free✔ its close to gas station so after your trip you can put the gas easily.
Failure to email receipt to me! Still havent gotten it and cant gett anyone to respond or answer the phone. Set on hold forever until I gave up
Bad interaction. We made a contract for a 20ft truck at the uhaul location 10 minutes from us a month in advance. They confirm and we are all set. Then the day before the move uhaul leaves a voicemail saying the truck pickup spot was moved thirty miles away. Online it still has the original pickup location. Because we are unsure what to do we call uhaul, three calls (two of which uhaul dropped), 90 minutes on the phone later, a representative confirmed the far away location. The rep offered to comp us miles because the new location is outside the contract range, i agreed, and the call dropped again.I wonder if I can return the truck to any uhaul facility within thirty miles of the contracted drop-off. Very frustrating that they changed it on us (didnt make the change online so we might have gone to the wrong place if we had missed the automated voicemail) and we literally cant talk to a person at uhaul without them hanging up on us. Avoid.
As a former employee of this location it’s sad to see this place go even more down the drain. I know exactly how propane works at uhaul and I always get fed some bull when I go in and want to fill my tank to keep my garage warm. It may come as a surprise to people that propane is used for more than just barbecuing, it’s also a excellent and cheap way to warm a work area. I work daily and I need propane daily, as do other people that have left poor reviews with inconsistent availability of propane at this location. It’s a shame as this place has been very convenient for me, but I won’t be returning to this location for propane, seems like they never want to fill my tanks anyway.
Wanted to get a hitch installed. Made an appointment, went to get the hitch installed and told they moved my appointment to another day because the part was not in. No phone call or email. If I can give this place deserves a zero star rating.
I got a hitch installed on my minivan earlier this week. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. Everything went so smooth and the hitch looks great!
Terrible. Terrible communication. I was told my appointment was set up and I would receive a text and email confirmation. Never got those so called back and my appointment was never made, just quoted in their system. This is after I had already had to cancel my first appointment because of poor communication on their part. Steer clear.
Not the way to do business, rented a truck from them for a local move, never had an issue before and had no reason not believe they were doing their part. I rented the truck at 7 am and had it back at 5pm. I retraced the mileage and locations we were at and it cam to 116 miles. Since I brought the truck back at 5 when they where closing I was told just park it there they would deal with it in the morning so I received no paperwork and it was on the Honor system. I never got anything in the mail and or email that showed it closed out or the final bill. 8 days later I get my credit card bill and it was 322.00 for a one day move around town. I called customer service they said it was logged in at 276 miles I said that was physically impossible and she said that there was nothing she could do. My recommendation to anyone is go elsewhere and if you must take pictures before and after to protect yourself from these people as there is no Honor system with them.
Yesterday I went to the Des Plaines U Haul to refill a propane tank. They said “you’re too late we’ve stopped doing propane because we’re closing in half an hour.” I went back today and was told “we cannot do propane because it was raining and thundered.” Nevermind it hadn’t been raining for an hour.I’m done. These guys act like it’s my good fortune to give them money. This place is terrible.
Very helpful staff. Large selection of trucks and vans. I was impressed that the van I rented was a new model and was clean. Very convienent location and hours. Used them last minute on the weekend while moving furniture across town. I highly recommend them.
Ignore the bad reviews at your own risk! We waited a week for todays appointment to install trailer lights on our car. Got a call this morning saying the part has not arrived and told to ask around if other U-Haul locations can do the installation. Our moving day is approaching fast and we wasted one week waiting for this installation only to be told that the part hasnt come - which more likely means that they gave the part to someone else because they had the part in stock when we scheduled the installation. Bad business and bad people, STAY AWAY!!
Rented a small van for a quick local move of a sofa, only took a few minutes with no prior reservation. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Vehicle was cleaned before I got in and again as I was leaving. I only had it for 45 minutes. Highly recommend .
I had a terrible experience with this U-Haul when my U-Box was delivered here. Buckle up, because its a long ride.1. First, no U-Hual representative within the greater Chicago area or nationally could seem to tell me if U-Boxes were allowed to park on Chicago streets (answer: its up to your alderman). Okay, instead of having it delivered to my new address, I would have them bring it to a U-Haul closer to my new apartment and do a self-unload.2. Then, I was informed that my U-Box couldnt be transferred anywhere, because the person (theres only one???) who can drive them wasnt in the office for that week. That means they would have had to reschedule my delivery even if I could have had it dropped directly at my apartment...yet I only found this out during Hour 5 of being on the phone with them. Now the only way to get my U-Box to me on the day Im scheduled to move in is to hire full-service movers. $350 later, fine.3. Moving day arrives, and I get a call from the movers who are at this location to pick up my U-Box. Its been transferred to a new location without them notifying any of us...The very location I was told it was impossible to transfer it to because no driver was available.My movers saved the day, drove an hour to get it, and unpacked it in a flash, but this was the most frustrating part of my moving experience. Ive used U-PACK before, and they were SO MUCH BETTER. Ill never use a U-Box again and will think twice about even renting trucks.
Yes, i know sometimes they have 1 employee working. But the people working here are real helpful. I had drama from my SUV not having proper tailgate wiring. i had rented U-Box from them. Went to other U-haul places. Some of the other locations workers need to learn from these guys on how to address customers. Most managers have that training that i sensed. But, it seemed that this location had more training and had the knowledge to help you out. The manager there, Ed was very accommodating and helpful. Their main concern was alleviating the drama that was given by me on my move, which was outside of their concerns. This was farther to get to than the Palatine and AH on rand location, but it was well worth it to come here. These guys really made a difference.
Hello All,I set up the delivery of my U-Boxes during the week to ship on Friday late in the evening. When I got off the phone with Uhaul I was assured that my delivery would go without a problem, however, hours later I received another call while I was working stating that my address had not been confirmed and that I needed to call Uhaul to confirm my address. Once I was off work I called to confirm and Uhaul once again assured me that my delivery would take place and it would be on time as promised.Finally, today, the date of delivery I received another call and this time it was to notify me that I did not confirm my address and therefore they are not dropping off my boxes as promised. After explaining to the manager that I did in fact contact Uhaul, she gave no sense of remorse and stated that it was my fault not theirs that I was not getting my boxes delivered.The Des Plaines office showed no care to reconcile my situation and still believes that I am the one in the wrong.I am shocked that such a large company would be ran with such poor customer service, needless to say, this was the last time I will be using their services period.I urge everyone to consider alternatives when looking to satisfy your transportation and trucking needs.
Had great service from Billy Amend we had a difficult situation dropping off our truck at at different location and corporate couldn’t even help us.. very thankful for his understanding hreat service!!

I scheduled trailer hitch installation at this location then they said I can have it there I have to go 45 minutes away from my house. I had to call them multiple times to find out where exactly, zero communication. They charge you for service that they can’t provide. When I called the customer service to find out where do I have to go, since they never send me any information, lady was extremely rude did not try to help me at all. I’m done doing any business with U-haul
Never really had a problem at this location and Ive came to this place many times. Usually has the trailers that I need. The employees there are courteous and helpful. Recently, I called in to cancel a reservation on a trailer. The employees name was Jeff. He greeted me, understood that I was canceling the reservation, and was courteous the whole time. Dont be afraid to try this place.
The women who is the manager of this place is very unprofessional, rude, dishonest, ignorant and must have some huge ego issues. For sure she has a problem with different races. Ive got the impression for her by her behavior that she is the owner till o called UHaul and they told me that she is just a manager. Hopefully they will get rid of her ASAP. I rented from this U-Haul location yesterday and had a seamless and easy experience for the most part.I picked up my truck after a short wait around 9am, and Eduardo was very friendly and efficient at getting me going. The truck was in good condition and waiting for me outside the building.Drop-off was easy and trouble free. Reps did a quick damage inspection, reviewed the mileage and gas, and completed the transaction via their mobile device. The charge was as expected, and I was leaving the parking lot in less than 5 minutes.I rented sight unseen, but was surprised to see all the negative reviews. I have had problems with other U-Haul locations, but based on my experience here I would recommend it.
U-Haul Breach of Contract:We had a delivery scheduled of full U-Boxes to our new home on July 26th. Lynetta, a manager, called and left a message saying we needed to call back to confirm. Stated policy is that we needed to confirm the day prior. I tried right after she called and was on hold for 20 minutes. I called again the next day and was told theyd given up our RESERVED spot, and that we could not even pick up the boxes ourselves as theyd OVERBOOKED the covers. No refund, no apology, no making it right. We were given no options and are not able to retrieve our own belongings.
The worth customer service I had ever seen. Rude fat black guy was talking to clients like they own him money. After we asked about our reservation he said to wait... and after long waiting he even did not come back to us. After we asked him again for a status he said to go out to different truck rentals. NEVER USE THIS TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!
So my problem is not with this store. My problem is with the reservations department. I made several reservation near my house. Reservation email states my pick up location. Then when I call the location to confirm they tell me my pick up is somewhere else far from my house. The customer service is rude. Now the rude person I just spoke with just got hung up on. I’ll take my business somewhere else. I’m so agrivated I might just make a bbb report.

Customer parking and entrance is ambiguous and disconnected, try to find customer parking on the west side, or get chewed out. Plenty of new equipment and vehicles. I do not recommend this UHaul at all! They were so rude to my daughter and myself over a hitch to be put on. My daughter has waited 3 weeks for them to find the hitch and place it. This morning she had her 3rd appointment and this time they didnt even call to say they couldnt find it. Good thing she called before going there. Their phone service is really rude and hang up on you as you are talking. Now my daughter has a week to get a hitch put on before moving. Thank goodness shes going to Grand Rapids, MI this weekend where there UHaul has the hitch and can do it in a hour and half as quoted 3 hours here in Des Plaines, IL. I didnt want to even give this company a star it deserves none.

All the reviews saying the employees are rude is entirely true. I just went in there for boxes, and had the most unpleasant customer service that Ive encountered in a very long time. Rude, disrespectful, and comes of as a narcissist that gets off on telling people what to do. I will never return here, and I recommend you all to drive a little further and go to a different location. The terrible employee works at the counter and wears a backwards flat bill sports hat (very very professional I know!!) If I have extra boxes to return, I will definitely go to a further location (and I dont even drive., so that will cost my Lyft payment to be higher. That is how bad it is). I wish reviews had zero or even better, negative stars :/

I almost didnt use this uhaul location because of the Google Maps reviews, but decided to give it a try because of the convenient location. I encountered 3 employees from the reservation, pick-up and drop-of process. All 3 were extremely accommodating and friendly. It reminded me that most people only review bad experiences, not good ones. I would and will recommend this uhaul anytime I have the chance.

Went to pick up a truck for my move, Edoardo the manager was very condenseding. I cancelled my truck despite my need to move. Luckily Enterprise came through with a truck. Sadly I tried to inform Uhal about the poor service, and they sent me a link. The link did not work..The manager at enterprise said he had the same problem with Eduardo two weeks ago..
Great uhaul...its an actual uhaul, not a mom and pop garage that rents them out. You can buy all materials needed to pack here, from tape to boxes to furniture dollys. Go here before trying others even if its a bit out of the way.
Made a reservation to this location however when we got there they told us that they dont have anything available and then sent us to arlington heights only to find out they also dont have anything. So whats the point of a stupid reservation?!? I DO NOT RECOMEND UHAL. Un-organized people and service!

My husband and reserved a 26 foot truck and car tow 2 weeks in advance for a one way trip. It was the day before that we received a text saying we need to pick both up at the 2424 Elston office which is Elston and Halsted way in the city when the Des Plaines office was 5 mins from me. I am moving out of state which is stressful enough and then you guys expect me to go all the way in the city to pu. Apparently the next place that had the truck was Indiana. Anyways their attitude was all we need to do is find you a truck . Now good costumer service would be to go get the truck and have it waiting for us where we originally requested. So now we had to go all the way in the city the night before cause we would not have time in the morning. We get down there. Only one guy working and he was packed. He was walking around swearing at people, driving all the trucks like an idiot and yelling at the poor people that were dropping off their truck. I couldnt believe this man was that rude. When he talked you couldnt understand him . When it was our turn he told me that he did not have car transport. I was furious I went all that way and they dont have what I need ???? I called the scheduling department and she said that they do have the part there. Then he yelled at me cause his boss called him. The only reason i stayed cause they were the only one that had the truck i needed. The scheduling lady heard how this guy was talking to us and tried to call the area manager Jesus who apparently was on vacation and had noone covering for him. So we got nowhere with them. This has been the worst experience i have ever had and i do not recommend using uhaul. It would be nice to speak to someone in management regarding this experience. Im under C. Stapleton on my contract . This review was posted on this stores website because they were the reason I was sent to the hole in the first place !
This place is absolutely horrible. The manager edwardo is so rude and disrespectful. We rented a truck for 24 hours and when we called to add another day on the lady said oh well its already in the computer that its not due until 2 days later and she assured that we would only be paying the one fee of $20.95. So we drop the truck off before the time were supposed to have it back and low and behold I look at my bank statement to find out I have been charged 3 separate times totaling about $130.00 ... I have been trying to get intouch with the higher up manager to get my refund for the past week now and its like going in circles. Ugh! Never rent a truck from this location go to 101 e rand rd. . Ste D in mount prospect... The manager/owner Scott is amazing .. Helpful .. Kind .. Never over charges you for anything and just an all around great guy. The only reason we didnt go thru him because he was out of town for that week we were moving. Hope this helps ...
Waiting in line for atleast an hour just to get the key of the truck because i did checkout online but theres only two person working here. Both of them went outside to help one customer having 12 people waiting for around 10mins then started helping next customer . I already have movers waiting at home and i am paying them 80/hr. Edweirdo this guy is sick of his life and he wants to make everyone around him miserable and hes the manager too go figure, if this is what you call customer service I give you an F as in is failure fired and some other f works that are not so appropriate, okay mind you I have a f350 4 door with a 8 foot bed, as I pull in the parking lot I look along the fence and there nowhere to put this truck so I pull up to the front and didnt really know where to park so I kind of put the truck to the side and came inside as I walked up to the counter Edweirdo starts to tell me that I couldnt park wright there so I apologized and told him would you like me to move the truck he tells me no lets just get you your rental and get out of here I told him okay as hes asked me for my credit card and drivers license he turns around and walks outside and then comes back in and started to yell at me about my truck again, so I got frustrated and told him didnt I just ask you if you wanted me to move my truck and you specifically told me no let me just get you out of here, after I started to argue with him he did not want to rent the trailer to me anymore, whenever he did this I told him that Ill contact corporate and he told me go right ahead aint nothing going to happen, I end up contacting corporate after telling them what happened they assured me that everything was going to be straightened out come to find out a couple of hours later he ends up calling me and leaving me a message like basically see I told you so, if this is what happens whenever you call corporate this company is a joke dont give this location no more money, I promise I work in a heavy industrial area where we rent from them a lot and I promise anybody who says Im going to rent from U-Haul on Mount Prospect and Oakton I will tell him to go elsewhere, I know my company is done with this location your welcome Edweirdo
This place has very rude and unprofessional personel. The folks here are not friendly and do not care about anyone. They wont greet new customers on arrival. They wont verify which credit card a payment should be made on. They are overall a bunch of uneducated folks who dont seem to know what they are doing. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

The worst customer service I had seen. I booked online for a location unfortunately was closed on Sunday afternoon, I called the UHAUL customer service they passed me on to this location for truck pickup. When I went to this store, I was surprised to find out from a guy that they dont have my reservation, very rude guy at the reception was in no mood helping me out and showing no courtesy when I told him about my booking and running around for a truck and cannot issue me a truck without reservation. After we asked for a new reservation of any size truck available he said to go out to different truck rentals location. I have paid twice the amount for the mileage plus rentals

Worst customer service ever!!!!!! Went there on a Saturday morning (the busiest day for moving) to buy moving supplies and return two rolls of tape I purchased from the internet U-Haul website. Gave my reciept/invoice to Ann (at least thats what she said her name was). Ann made a huge deal about returning the tape and said she had to call customer service. Ann told me customer service was closed when it was not. Additionally she was extrermely slow with the customers ahead of me and I was in line for 45 minutes!!! There was only one employee working the front desk!!!! Stay away!!!!!!
I always get great customer service from these employees. Most of the time these employees are over worked and under paid.
Worst experience ever. Rushed me to return the truck in 6 hours instead of the 12 I had a reservation for. When I got there they wanted to charge me 30 $ for being 1/4 gallon short.

The truck I rented was clean and ready at the time I arranged for pickup. Staff answered my questions and I had no issues other than the short wait time, approximately 10 minutes while other customers were being served first, to pickup and return the truck.

I rented a van from this location for 2 days with an estimate of 100mi and they mixed up the rezervation and charged me 530$ for 2000mi. In 2 days. And i drove 57mi.
