Up to now I’ve been purchasing my vehicles the old fashioned way. Sitting at a dealership knowing that you’re going to give up a full day working out a purchase. Truth is, the hardest part of my purchase was waiting the sixteen days for the delivery, but it was worth the wait. When my vehicle made it to the Santa Fe, NM location, the Manager took full control of the situation and had my vehicle all prepped and waiting for me at the entrance of their building the next day. It was awesome feeling see it there waiting for me when I pulled up in the CarMax parking lot. It took some getting use to, but overall, a good experience and would recommend.
I found unreported body damage, and had to replace 2 tires that were both under 30% tread AND would not hold recommended pressure... overall I wish that CarMAX had a better procedure for checking vehicles like this one, and ANY sort of remediation (they dont).Car is fine now that Ive spend another thousand on it post purchase :/
They will sell a car out from under you without hesitation. Holds or purchase agreements mean nothing to them. Worst experience ever. We had an agreement and a hold in place too but a car, we took 3 days getting our own financing, come back to make final payment and they’d already had it on its way to California. Manager did nothing to correct the problem.
Every single CarMax employee I dealt with possessed top notch customer service skills. The whole car selling experience was smooth, easy, convenient, and fast. I would definitely do business with CarMax again. To the Santa Fe crew, y’all are amazing.

In the 3 days it took me to get financing in place with my Credit Union, they sold the car out from under me, or rather were shipping it to california for anther interested party, stuck me with nothing after signing a purchase agreement and putting hold on the vehicle. so unethical. now I understand why used car salesman have such a bad reputation.
Customer service was excellent, prompt. Every part of the process was well explained. Car was as advertised, clean, and, again, explained as to what was done to prepare for customer. After test drive time allowed for any questions about vehicle. I was asked if I wanted to trade my old vehicle and was given a fair trade in price. I was satisfied with every step of the process.CarMax was recommended by someone who has bought all vehicles from CarMax and said never had a problem, and I have already recommended CarMax to someone I know is looking for another vehicle
The process was quick and easy. There are 2 reasons I didn’t give you full 5 star rating. First is I got my car appraised and offered $7100 for my car, the car I was going to purchase was in transit and took an extra week to arrive at the dealership I was dealing with, therefore my initial appraisal expired. 3 weeks later I was ready to sell my car and got another appraisal and it went down $600 to $6500 which was very disappointing for it only being a couple weeks. The 2nd reason for the lower rating is that none of the sales people knew how to drive a manual transmission, you guys sell cars and none of your people know how to properly operate a specific vehicle. I know that manual transmissions are getting phased out but it might be good for your staff to know how to operate any vehicle.
The buying and selling process was easy. I’m happy with my car. The only thing that was disappointing is they didn’t detail it. I told them not to wash it because it was raining, but they didn’t even vacuum/ dust the inside or clean the windows.

We were able to get the issue resolved in a matter of just a few days and are back on the road in time to make it to a family event in Texas. First time car buying experience here at car max... I shopped online for the car I liked. I applied over the phone it took about 30 minutes and I had an instant decision from getting my phone approval for financing through car max, I took all the documents they requested to the dealership signed my paper work. And within 2 hours I was driving away in my new car. Way way better then going and sitting at a dealership all day long haggling with people. I’ll never buy a car another way.

Completed the online info to request a quote to sell my car, but was instructed to go to the store, got to the store and they reminded me I could have done it online...Store duplicated the work I had to do to online.Online they give you a link to Kelly Bluebook price then make an offer 40 percent less on a perfectly clean super low mile 4 year old vehicle.No thanks.

Pros:+ No pressure, no BS sales cycle.+ Card was delivered to the Santa Fe location from ABQ quickly and I was kept in the loop on when it would arrive.+ Employees on-site were great to work with, friendly and efficient.Cons:- After the test drive, it was difficult to get back in contact w/ someone at the Santa Fe location. Business cards had the general customer service number which is located in ABQ. Sending emails was like shouting into a void.- There was a communication gap between customer service and the Santa Fe office around making down-payments. When in doubt, go with what they say at the sales location.
CarMax is amazing, each representative trained in the entire process, appraisal, offer, buy, and sell. I received a generous appraisal and offer on my 2015 Ram Laramie and accepted their price. I ordered another vehicle and changed my mind and they treated me fairly and generously, going above what I expected. I will deal with them again and again. They take the angst out of buying and selling a vehicle. Kudos Karmax.
CarMax in Santa Fe was fantastic! Thank you Tina and crew. We wanted a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon two-door, and we shipped them in to the store until we had a match to our needs. It was the third jeep that we purchased, and there was never any question by the store of waiting until we had the right vehicle. Zero pressure. Always there for us. It really is the way car buying should be. Our lightly used jeep was pre-owned as a dealer only vehicle, and we could not be happier.
After a quick photo session CarMax sent me an offer for the purchase of my vehicle, this was good for 7-days. On day 7 I took the vehicle in and once again after a quick inspection they processed the purchase and gave me a check. The speed of this operation was impressive. CarMax took care of all the paperwork in a very efficient manner. the quality of their personnel was also impressive.

My experience purchasing a car at CarMax was truly a walk in the park; no bartering, no hassle, no one asking you to dish out another $1000 every 30 minutes...I was literally in and out in less than 2.5 hours. When I returned home, I was utterly amazed as to how easy the purchase was but more importantly, I was happy, not totally stressed out! The joy wasn’t sucked out of me, waiting 6-8 hours+ to purchase a car as in the past at other car dealerships. Plus, I actually saved $5000 at CarMax, on the price of the car verses from multiple car dealerships plus I was offered over $2000 more than the blue book offer on my trade in. Yes, I’m very happy! I rated my experience a 4 because after the purchase, I requested some information that on my paperwork stated CarMax would supply to me if requested, from my sales person. Instead of him sending me the information he told me to contact the dealership for my brand of car in town to get the information. I was disappointed in his offering of service.
Really wanted to give my experience a far better rating, but in all honesty, I cannot. After reviewing Porsche Cayennes for almost 3 weeks, I fell in love with a 2017 that was sitting in Colorado. Two weeks went by and I received the email that the car had arrived in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Unfortunately the car had a small ding from the transport and they needed 5 days in order to have someone fix the ding. Finally Im there picking up the car the following Thursday. Paperwork went fine and off I drove into the sunset. . . well not really. Tire indicator light went on, then the oil light. I took it to my Porsche mechanic and had an extensive look over. Each one of the tires had a different air pressure in them, and the oil level was way over the indicated line. He emptied out a full cup, and added/subtracted the air pressure for the tires. Two days later the oil light came on again. Back to my mechanic and he again removed 1/2 cup.I still didnt give up on this car. Now Im in week #2 and with a warm weather spell I turned on the air conditioning. There was no cold air coming from the vents so this time it went back to Carmax. They recharged the freon and I was out the door in one hour. Im a bit perplexed with this car. I love it. Its my 3rd Porsche and my first one going thru Carmax. Im hesitant to keep it but am treading carefully in my acceptance of it.

When I took the plate off in the front of my new jeep. There were several holes made into bumper. When I emailed sergio about it he said that it was because in other states they have license plate in the front. I did send him a picture of it and showed how awful it looks. But didnt want to make it right for me.not happy with this as it is very sloppy and unprofessional in his part to not want to make it right. Just slap on another license to hide the holes. ☹️☹️
Needed to sell a 3rd car because we sold our second home and I didnt want to sell it outright with the COVID-19 health concerns. We went online on Edmunds (I believe) to find out the value and we were provided a firm offer from CarMax at $2,500 less than private party estimated sale price. We made an appointment, took our title and drivers licenses, and it was an easy process. We were apprehensive that, once we got to the appointment, CarMax would pay us less than its offer, but they did not. They can make about $5,000 on the sell but, for us during this time, it was a great option to sell the car with no hassles of strangers coming to our home and test driving and then worrying about if their checks were good, etc.
Tina runs this store amazingly. Anthony, Amber are amazing sales people.They are fast. Good problem solvers and extremely customer centric. Carmax is a good company overall but they meet and exceed good customer service expectations.

Bought a truck from them that subsequently had mechanical issues. CarMax handled the issues promptly and professionally and completely honored their 90 day, 7000 mile warranty. Bottom line, they kept their word without any typical used car dealer bob and weave! I would recommend them without hesitation and will buy my next car from them.

I got pre approved online we went in picked a car that was priced higher than what I was pre approved for. So we put my babe on the application this time.we got approved but were told what we brought wouldnt work as verification of address.they told us to bring utility Bills that show our address.we did that now theyre saying that wont work cause the zip code isnt on the service address on the bill.i have over 2 years of utility Bills in both our names but they supposedly cant use them.the Bills clearly show we live at that address. But for some reason the manager keeps adding new reasons why they cant continue with the rest of the process.another reason is the mobile home space isnt on 1 of the bills.complete waste of time.
CarMax is the first no pressure car buying experience we have ever had. That with the quality used cars they have made for a great experience. If they dont have what you want & you find it at another CarMax anywhere in the US, they can have it shipped in for you. Their staff were all very cordial & helpful during each visit we made to their dealership. Definitely a 5-star experience.
Every aspect of buying a car from them was difficult except the pricing of the car. Staff was polite and courteous but ultimately unhelpful. I arranged for a local transfer from ABQ only to be called a few days later and told the car was sold in ABQ, so I arranged one to come in from further away it took repeated phone calls to track down where this vehicle I paid to transfer was, no one could give me a straight or apparently accurate answer.They are operating by appointments, and when the car finally showed up (more than a month later than promised) they scheduled my appointment incorrectly and didnt know I was coming despite my asking for verification when making the appointment. Finally, because I wasnt financing through them the process of taking payment was needlessly complicated requiring a second trip to the dealership to finalize the purchase. On this second trip the paint damage I noted on the first visit and was told would be fixed had not been addressed.I am unlikely to shop here again, nor will I recommend the experience to anyone.

I purchased a vehicle from a CarMax store in another state agreeing to pay the transfer fee.After a lack of communication and my vehicle not arriving on the agreed upon date CarMax refunded the transfer fee no hassle required, a few weeks later I noticed some loose/broken clips on body panels on the interior/exterior of the rear hatch, rear wing and the rear left wheel well trim looked like a dog had chewed on it.After making an appointment to fix these issues that I found two weeks after I drove off the lot all repairs were made at no charge to me thanks to the three month warranty.This was my second CarMax purchase and I will definitely be back.
Everyone else will have a decent experience. The only easy part was handing over my down payment. As far as making the appointment and being told that I wasn’t in the system, they couldn’t find my car, found it, brought up the wrong one then 4 hrs later I got to drive away. Hassle free wasn’t the motto that day. But regardless still got a car.
I was recommended from a friend here. They had recently got a jeep here.. We had gotten a vehicle from carmax about a month ago. It was a Hyundai sonata. Within the week of us having the vehicle the car was turning off on me.. we decided to take it back and get another vehicle there which was a very big mistake. Within 3 weeks the car lost power on the highway. It went from 80 to 50 within a couple of seconds. When we got home and did a turn the steering wheel moved.. it does not lock so its moving while you are driving. I called carmax and explained to him what was going on.. The man in service told me I would have to take it in to Nissan because they had nothing at carmax to fix a transmission. I spoke to Sam. He got me a rental set up. I am happy they are going to fix the car but if there are already 2 things wrong with this car. Who knows what else will be wrong with this vehicle. Do they not check their cars before putting them out. This has been such a hassle and I will never go through carmax again. I do not recommend anybody to go here. I will be trading in the vehicle once it is fixed and will take my chances on having a higher payment somewhere else. I will also be calling the corporate office. I also forgot to mention my friend that got her jeep here is also having problems with hers. She is going through the same process. I am not a very happy customer.

The truck I bought is great, however........I paid to have it transferred to Santa Fe from Iowa. After a wait of over a month, and some ridiculous excuses from the local CarMax manager, I called CarMax corporate offices. Only then did I discover that the truck had been delivered to the wrong city and was just sitting, apparently undetected, on their lot. I will say that CarMax refunded my transfer fee for the inconvenience.CarMax sent in the title and registration info to Motor Vehicle. They said they would call me when it came in and I could pick them up. That call never came. When my temp tag was almost expired, I called. They said that they tried to call me and when they couldnt get me, they mailed it. It did come in the mail, finally.Also, they told me that when the truck shipped from Iowa, I would get an email. That email never came either.Everyone was friendly, and the truck is great now that its finally here, but the customer service/business end of the operation is, in my case, terrible.
This was my fourth car purchase and first one using CarMax. It was everything that I was led to believe it would be: absolutely haggle-free with excellent customer service from start to finish. I am unlikely to ever purchase a car anywhere else!

Thats not usually done there, but they were just so understanding and kind.

This totally upends the standard way of buying a car. No price haggling or salesperson pressure. We got pre-approved for a loan amount, walked the lot with the sales associate, looking at cars in our price range, checked the national inventory on a computer in the store, and ended up having a car shipped to us from another state. After it arrived and we took it for a test drive then we finalized. Painless and fast. A great experience overall!

Herman at CarMax made it easy to arrange transport of the car to Santa Fe with no obligation on my part other than to pay for the transport. I had been working with Herman and he made sure all the documentation was correct. Needless to say, I purchased the car with minimum hasstle and he even took care of the registration for my vehicle.The service they provided at CarMax was very thorough and professional. I bought a car and after taking it home we realised that it was not the right fit for our family. Three days later we returned it and got another vehicle that we absolutely love. I purchased a vehicle from them and I love it, but unfortunately they did the VIN inspection after I bought it and didnt do a thorough inspection as well. They sold me a car with a battery that was dead a seatbelt that didnt retract. Once the issue was addressed they fixed it at zero cost, which I am very grateful for.

Honest service work at a reasonable price. The service rep took the time to explain the faulty GM part, what purpose they serve, how they tested them, and also replaced them. He also let me know how many miles/how much time I had left on my warranty.
My father was told the truck he wanted to purchase would arrive on three days. 4 days pass we call and they say it wont arrive for 3 WEEKS. we call the dealer it was coming from in AZ they said there was no reason it should take this long. We relay this to sf carmax they said a manager would call us by the end of TUESDAY business day still NO CALL BACK. keep the shipping money well find another vehicle. I was about to buy a car there too but after this experience Ill stay clear
Everything went great. sales person was great until the very end. About three papers before being done signing I was told that the car had overspray on it from being repainted. Then after I got home, I noticed when I opened the passenger side door there were dents on the same side where you get into the car. so apparently the car has been in some kind of an accident that I wasn’t told about. The engine doesn’t seem to sound all that great when idling either. It is what it is.
