I have great things to say about the service i received at emerald auto. I called on Tuesday morning and got their voicemail they called me back later that day and had me an appointment for 8am the next morning. My brakes were starting to grind on the rotors and were in a bad way so I needed the first slot that they had. I talked with the service writer Gary who was great. He didnt try to upsell me like so many other service writers do. I dropped my truck off at 8 and they had it ready by 2pm. They changed out the front rotors and brakes and all for a great price. I think Ive found my new Go-to garage. I highly recommend this place.

Cant recommend the work of Gary enough! Hes very open and honest about your car needs and always hits deadlines. Ive had numerous things taken care of here over the years - most recently brakes, tire rotation, and and oil change. Gary often throws in some free items - like fixing nail punctures in tires. They get busy - so call ahead to get an appointment. I havent had to wait more than a couple days - well worth the wait.Cant put a price on an honest and reliable repair shop!

Gary is great. Always got my F-150 oil changed here. One time, I parked my truck on a downhill and the tank was a lot lower than I thought it was. The gas wouldnt pump to the engine when I tried to start it. Gary loaned me a gas can and a funnel so I could get to the gas station and refill my truck. A hectic morning, but Gary helped me get my truck started. Im moving to Oakland now and I will miss having Gary as a reliable neighborhood mechanic.

I had a great experience at Emerald Auto & Brake. They fixed what needed to be fixed and unlike other shops, they did not charge me for unnecessary services. They also have a very nice staff!!

Amazing repair shop. My wife broke down on Geary with a dead battery, AAA tow to Emerald mid day Thurs. They were able to squeeze in and diagnose and replace battery as a drop in. In and out in 1.5 hrs is amazing. Would highly recommend as most shops would ask to leave car for couple days and force to have a rental car. Fair pricing for SF. Can not thank this shop enough as my wife works at a hospital and didnt have to call out of work.

Great auto shop. Needed a mirror replaced called 4 different shops all said 150-250 and 1-2 hours. I decided to check out this shop down the street and they got it done in 30 minutes for 40 bucks.Super easy and well done!

Called during the Covid 19 times to make sure theyre were open, because I discovered a screw in one of my tires; and the person in the other end of the line picked up in two rings; and told me to bring it right in Got there and my car was worked on right away. I was outta there in 10 mins tops. Fast prompt excellent service. Cant ask a shop to do anything else.

Gary is great and they always have a quick turnaround time. You have to make an appointment in advance but they usually complete a small repair within the same day. Very affordable service and easily accessible for public transportation using the N Judah.

Gary is amazing! You almost dont want people to find out about it, but its also really difficult to find an amazing mechanic that you trust with your car.He has the best Auto Shop Ive ever been to, and the most fair prices. He never suggests doing anything unless its necessary and his costs are MUCH cheaper than any dealership.Hes usually really busy and is shuffling cars ( imagine owning an auto shop with no parking in SF) but hes always listening and keeping all his cars taken care of at all times.Im so lucky I found this place ( and its 3 blocks from my house)

Absolutely trustworthy. Fair prices for both quick and simple services as well as more involved repairs. Garry’s family’s been here for generations and it’s simply the only shop into which I’ll take my two cars.

The best place to go to get youre car serviced. I took my car to get rotors and break pads installed all around and even though they already had a few cars they were working on they were able to finish my car in 1 hour and they charged me $180 for installation while other places were charging 4x times the amount. If you want fast and affordable service I strongly recommend this place.

The service ara really bad he changed my break pads and it was a different size now I have to pay to fix my car really bad i when back and he told me it’s normal but I when to other place and they explain me the problem

Emerald Auto Repair is located in the Inner Sunset and conveniently located to where I live. Shortly after moving to the city two and a half years ago, I began going to Emerald and had always received fair, honest and timely work done to my vehicle. That is why Ive chosen to give 3 stars. However, I stopped going about six to eight months ago due to the customer service. The owner Gary is hard to communicate with and gives little input or feedback regarding the services... he is often short with you and irritable as he is short staffed and backed up with work and it shows in his demeanor towards the customer.Often times Ive even waited unattended in the shop lobby for as many as 15-20 minutes before being greeted or helped. As a business owner myself, I believe customer service and satisfaction is the number one priority.Feeling little appreciation for my business here, Ive decided to go to Daly City Auto Repair where Ive been more than satisfied and have been happy to be a repeat customer. If your looking to take your car in to Emerald, come for the vehicle service, not the customer service.

So glad I was recommended to this place. They got me on the list within a day and fixed my car in a couple of hours. I even got a discount for paying my cash. Definitely my new go-to place for car maintenance and repair!

Garry is a man of few words, which can be frustrating if you want to know more about what went wrong or needs repair... but these guys are the most honest mechanics out there in SF that have quoted us less work and a lower price than any other garage weve gotten estimates from.If it aint broke, dont pay someone to replace it.The perfect garage for a car in its later years.

I would not take my cars to any other mechanic in the city. In fact I drive across town to have access to Gary’s services. He not only does great work but he’s above board honest and very reasonable prices.

I moved here in Spring of 1972, and began using the Gavney familys Emerald Arco, as it was called, then...... Garrys dad was the operator, and Garry and his brother were little kids, hanging around... Time passes. My family of 4 has 4 cars and a pick up truck.. Garry services them all, impeccably. No one that I have ever used comes close, in skill. He is scrupulously honest....How many businesses are in the same family and location for about 50 years, and going strong...? Only Emerald Auto, far as I know. He could be elected Mayor of the Inner Sunset, if there was such an office.

Gary is the best ! Bar none.My older Honda had a problem w/ overheating - I feared the worst and put off repairing for fear of what I thought was wrong. Finally had to take in.Next day when I picked it up, he explained he did some adjustmentsand it wasnt overheating anymore !!! Blew me away. didnt cost a 10th of what I thought it might!Honest, Explains, and very Knowledgeable ! Doesnt get better!

Left my car at the shop over night because my brakes were out and couldn’t drive it.Came back the next morning to the guy trying to tow my car!I told him my situation and he told me to leave. What I thought it was a heaven send turned into a nightmare of an experience.I went right down the street.

Been going to Gary for many years. No bs mechanic. Will never tell you that you need to fix something thats not broken. Brought my mother-in-laws car not to long ago. She was quoted over $1k by some one else, Gary replaced a hose for about $100 and the car is still running strong.

Until I moved to the Inner Sunset all my experiences with auto shops were nasty.....greasy guys who Im sure have experience with arson...dirty shops with feral cats & dogs...and an air of macho felon that gave weight to any conversation.Seriously, every time I took a car to a mechanic for a splinter I would hear sorry dude....bad news....need a new blah, blah, blah... or you really ought to replace blah, blah, blah... or the classic Did you know that...blah, blah, blah...Surrounded by exhaust fumes and cigarette exhales all I could hear was If you dont spend the money and fix this very unnecessary repair you will find yourself careening off a highway killing yourself and everyone you love in the car!So in the end I would get ripped off, pay a high price for service that was not needed and would suspect as I was handing over my credit card that I was indeed getting screwed with no dinner, flowers or promises.This does not happen at Emerald.If you want one thing from your mechanic besides his bank account its honesty. You get it.Ive got two cars and each of them has had issues but Emerald does what you expect: they fix what is wrong with your car...they actually tell you what is wrong and they fix it.....and quickly.No BS, no sales pitch and you wont be thinking: I just got had.Gary is the best - fast, speaks English - not car-jibberish and is.....honest.This review is one of those things when one doesnt want to spread the word about a good thing and create customer competition. But I think integrity needs to be lauded.Emerald is awesome

No BS here. I have been bringing my cars here for a decade and they have never done me wrong. These guys fix cars well and dont rip you off, but if youre the kind of person that needs to be coddled with corporate style, saccharine sweetness, go elsewhere. this is a small business and they are busy.

Gary and his team give fair service and can fix almost any car problem at a reasonable cost. I went there about one year ago when the transmission on my car had died. I thought I was going to have to get a new car or pay a big bill but Gary actually found a used replacement transmission that extended the life of the car for another year.
