I live in Chula Vista and will drive this far to get the service I can get from Black Mountain Bicycles. I bought my Roubaix Comp here and Ive already suggested to a few friends to buy their bike here. One of them also bought a Roubaix and super happy with their purchase. Heres my suggestion in regards to a good process to buy your bike. 1st work with JD to get a bike fit. Then you can be confident that your bike will work with you and not against you!The staff is is awesome!! Ive worked with a few of them already since my wife also bought a bike and had her fitting here. I cant recommend this place enough.

Be really carful about to make a deal with this guys!I was trying to find a bicycle for my wife’s birthday and after these guys assured me that the bicycle was going to arrive before her birthday, I decided to buy that from they.Actually I bought 2 bicycles at the same time.After a little bit more than one month’s I heard about them that the bicycle was arrived and ready to pickup.So I did run there to pickup the bicycle because my was so anxiety about that.When I arrived to pickup that I was surprised from them, because they were asking me usd 100.00 more and giving me a bicycle assembled with a different components that was suppose to be.After I tried to solve the problem with them I decided to ask for my money back and I will try to solve de situation from another way. Because I don’t think that this is a fair way to run a business. Deceiving costumers.

Took my bike (2020 full suspension mountain bike) in for a tuneup and to look into a creaking/grinding sound. They take appointments, so I said, great! 6 weeks later, I take it in, show the mechanic a video of the sound and ask him to look into it and go home. 3 days later I get a call that my bike done and go pick it up. I ask the cashier if they diagnosed/fixed the creaking and was told yes. I paid the $140 (tune up + diagnostics) and go home. I look at the receipt when I get home and it says “creaking sound appears to be coming from the bottom bracket.” I hit the trail 2 days later and it’s still creaking. I just paid $140 for a tune up I probably could’ve done myself and no call from the shop to discuss how to fix the issue, just a call stating that they’re all done. Pretty poor if you ask me. On the bright side, they had some nice bikes in stock.-edit-Increasing my review to 3 stars as the manager did reach out to me offering to rectify the issue. He seemed sincere and was very apologetic for the service I received. Unfortunately i already had my bike at a different shop being repaired.

Excellent bike buying experience in spite of the crowds there Saturday. Our sales person Mikeala was cool calm and helpful.Picked up a new bike that day and have been out on the trails ever since!

Not as knowledgeable as I expected when it comes to Bike fitting. I didnt feel confident in their ability. I also asked for refund I didnt get it but owner would give me credit toward higher end bike fit. I declined his offer. Do your research before you spend your hard earned money.

This review is primarily directed to JD who works in the bike fitting department. Background, I started cycling over 7 years ago and it has become a passion since. However, throughout, I suffered major back and hip pain as a result. So much so, I considered that my riding career would have to end because the pain was too much. To address this, I went to a major bike retailer in San Diego and they led me to believe that I was getting an actual bike fitting(by the owner). I later came to realize that was NOT an actual fitting, it was just a contraption to sell me a bike but it didnt address my pain at all and so I continued to ride through the pain thinking I had actually been properly fitted. I feel it was completely misleading to claim that what they were doing was a fitting.I then went to two other professional fitters here in SD and NONE fixed the problem and we are talking HUNDREDS of dollars later. I was at a point where I could barely ride 20 miles, 2 days a week. I was determined but literally at the end of any hope that the problem could be fixed. I figured Id take ONE MORE shot and reached out to JD at Black Mt. Bicycles but really didnt have any expectations. I just told him, If you can fix my issue, you will essentially be my hero. Well, I just went back for my second fitting with JD and for the first time ever, I rode without ANY pain. Finally I felt what it was like to actually ride without pain!!! DUDE YOU ARE A LIFE CHANGER! I am definitely going to be buying a bike from them. He gave me some great advice regarding gravel bikes which I will be getting when the next years models come out.I cant thank JD enough. I had NO expectation that my problem that I had been dealing with for 7 YEARS would ever go away. Im honestly shocked. Bro, THANK YOU. You honestly changed my life...

What a great Bicycle Shop. Customer Service is above and beyond what you could ask. They really go out if their way to make you feel great about your selection from bike to parts to accessories. Go see Connor. This young man knows his bikes and how to treat his customers. As long as this guy is around Ill be making my purchases here.

Fantastic service!!!!! I called on the phone and they answered my basic questions (bicycle accessory). I did a little more research via their website before visiting the store. They listened to what I wanted to accomplish and helped figure out the best product.

Went there yesterday (Monday) after checking their website to determine what time they opened. There is a paper note on the door with their updated hours. Closed on Monday. I guess it was too much trouble to post the updated hours on their website. Funny, now they have those hours on the website.

Needed a noise diagnosed they took my bike back to the back figured out it was a loose cassette gave me my bike back in 5 minutes and then proceeded to charge me since when do you get charged without being informed theres a costUpdate: I get your busy and that things like transparency can fall through the cracks but I left your store with a bad feeling and as a customer I did not enjoy my time thereAll the mechanic did was tighten my cassette I believe a good bike shop would have done that no cost and educated the customer on how to maintain your bike not charge them and leave them feeling bad

Bryan has been great and helpful. I got the whole family bikes here over the last few months and we love them. Has been great to get out and ride almost every day.

The service dept. is great. I have been helped with some tricky fixes multiple times here. I have sent several friends, neighbors, and coworkers in and they have also had very positive experiences either getting repairs or new bikes. If you have any new bike questions, talk to Michaela (spelling?) or ANY of the service team (Matt, Chris, etc). Keep up the good work BMB!!!

I havent been to this bike shop in years since now I do maintenance on my bike at home, but from the few times I have walked through the doors, it is a great place. Nowadays its easy to find LBSs that overcharge you for a lot of things and generally arent that helpful a lot of the time. Black Mountain Bicycles is not this. They have great staff and great service. The staff are here to help you, not leech off of you. You can come in here and expect nothing but great stuff.

I just stopped by for some new rubber for my MTB. I already knew what I wanted and asked if they price matched. Since I am not from the area, they only price matched locally. Lucky for me, they still hooked me up for just coming in! Customer service was great and I was in and out in a matter of minutes! Not only that, the safety protocols were excellent. Definitely will add them to my go to places for my bike and will be back!

I have been shopping at this store (and its old location) since 2005. Everyone is great, starting by Brian (the boss) and Matt (the other boss). Mechanics are on top (Matt, Chris Elli and many others that I forgot).Now my two boys spend all my money there as well. But its worth every penny. Great people, great service and great bikes and parts selections.

I just purchased my first e-bike, a Specialized Turbo Levo SL, at Black Mountain Bicycles and I am absolutely delighted with the shops service and selection. I live in the upper Mojave Desert so I had many bike shops to choose from since the purchase was going to involve a long drive anyway.Mikaela at Black Mountain answered all my questions over the phone and the shop was able to build the bike I wanted - which was still in a box - by the next day, remarkably. When we came to pick it up, she spent lots of time going over every detail of the bike - she really knows her stuff! We took it for a brief ride and determined the seat post was a bit short for me. We returned to the shop and Quinten lined up a mechanic on the spot to swap to a 125 mm post. We then took a longer (fantastic!) ride and came back just to rave about the bike. Owner Brian was happy to hear that and said that with Covid requiring masks he misses seeing that first Turbo smile!In summary, terrific staff that are knowledgeable and friendly, and willing to go above and beyond with service to their clients.

Great service backed by a solid selection. when I was shopping this is one of the few bike shops I visited that had a fairly large selection of bikes. I didnt feel like ordering a bike. I was able to buy a nice carbon fiber specialized bike here and start riding it right away.

The staff all seem to have bad attitudes at this shop. After 45 minutes waiting outside, they let the guy behind us in. We called ahead and said we were coming after the first time we stood outside waiting we were rudely told to come back another time. Will never give them any business as they don’t deserve it. Maybe staff should take some courtesy or friendliness lessons. I think Specialized needs to find a new dealer.

Due to quarantine restrictions, it was a 25 minute wait to go in for sales info. Once in, however, I was attended to professionally and helpfully. No complaints.

This place is top notch. Kirby was terrific helping me pick out some new road shoes, as well as a new pedal system. He doesnt even normally help with sales, but the store was real busy and he didnt hesitate to step in. Great guy, great store. Highly recommend!

This is by far the best bike shop around. They really take care of you, i had an incident with my Specialized stumpjumper just shortly after buying it which long story short led to the whole rear end being replaced. Chris in the service department is a stellar employee and person, i introduced myself once and from then on he memorized my name, having hundreds of customers that is no easy thing to do. And he really bent over backwards to make sure that specialized covered the failure and had everything replaced for me at almost no charge (normally it would be a $700 repair!) cant recommend these guys enough!

Not sure if these guys are dumb or...? They call me in to try a different type of bike before I commit to buying from UC Cyclery, but when I get all the way to Black Mountain Bikes, I’m told that they’re not allowing customers to test ride prior to buying a bike. So you expect me to buy a $5,600 bicycle without even a test ride? Or why did you invite me to your shop? Needless to say I bought my bike from UC Cyclery, very happy customer.

Repaired a flat tire in ten minutes. Very friendly and attentive staff. Very fair repair service prices. This is now my go-to bike repair.

Cool shop with great customer service! My chain broke right at the beginning of my ride a few days ago, I popped in here and they were really helpful at getting me back on the trail. They even gave me a really tasty roll. My local shop has occasionally made me feel awkward because I come in for little parts to help me work on my own bike. Even though this place is an extra 25 min away, guess where Im going to go next time I do need bigger work done?

I had the same experience as April P. I have been a loyal customer of Black Mountain and Specialized. I went to Black Mountain Bikes to purchase my 8th Specialized bike and was treated poorly. I walked away. A friend recommended UC Cycles. Night & day difference in the way UC treated me! Unfortunately, UC didn’t have the size frame I need but I am willing to wait. Jose at UC Cycles is a joy to deal with and is a very knowledgeable guy. Specialized should definitely be made aware of Black Mountain Bikes treating loyal customers with little to no respect.

Black mountain pricing on bikes are competitive, but not the lowest. Their pricing on road cycling shorts, jerseys, bike apparel in general is on the high end.Their service department on the other hand is always top notch. They are always helpful, friendly, and go the extra mile. I cracked a carbon fiber frame a couple of years ago and they replaced it with a new one, with absolutely no hassle. All in all, Black Mountain is more expensive but they always stand behind their products and their work. I would recommend this shop to a friend.

Service team is amazingly helpful...I flew into town Fri night with my bike only to discover right shifter had broken in transit. Kirby in the shop spent a couple hours getting me fixed up before closing, so I could get my rides in this wkend. Life saver!! Hugely appreciative of the awesome service

Have bought bikes and bike service at Black Mountain Bicycles for 35 years, long before BMB had the beautiful new store. Tony and his wife have always seen to it that my family got good bikes for us and our children. Tony would often throw in (too much) free stuff with our purchases; know his wife got on him from time to time about it. Highly recommended for sales and service.

Some of the other reviews I read were so picky, that I felt compelled to set the record straight (even though I never write reviews). Brian and Paul were great-they really know their stuff. There was no pressure, and they wanted to be sure you had the right size and product. I would highly recommend the shop!

I have gone to these folks since they were in the small store in Mira Mesa ~1980. I count on them for maintenance that I cant do, and I can do a lot. I recently had a front derailleur problem - modern derailleur mounted on 1980 road bike. [Yeah, I do strange things with bikes.] After going to local bike shop who blew me off (derailleur is mounted on something it shouldnt be), I went to Black Mountain. The young guy I have dealt with several times in the past fixed in 5 minutes. Price was great, too. 👍👍👍👍👍

I’m in the market for a set of aero bars. Found what I wanted and saw that they were “in stock” on their website. Just to be sure I called to see if they were in stock. Mike said they were not in stock but they could be ordered. I asked if I could do the order on the phone, but he said it would be easier to do it in the store. Went to the store later in the day, only to be told (by Mike) that their supplier no longer carries the model I wanted. That’s an hour wasted. Won’t be shopping there anymore.

Service is great! I asked a person at the place a bunch of problems on my mtb and he checked and helped me prevent them. I learned a bunch new things and they were super helpful. There are everything you need in there and I will totally recommend going there! Thank you!

Great bike shop, service was outstanding. I had a difficult problem and they persisted and fixed it. Not sure what the one star guys gripe is but there but my experience has been great on numerous occasions.

I cant even count how many times I been to BMB, nor do I have the time to write about all the things theyve done for me. Theyve gone out of their way for me multiple times. They even stayed open past closing time to give me a chance to come pick up my bike from shop. The mechanics are awesome and the sales guys arent pushy at all. I recommend them, all day, every day.

I brought in a couple of my bikes that were completely thrashed. I mean neglected, rusted, rotten tires from sitting outside for two years. Complete beaters. The guy in the back was named Matt and he reassured me that he could get the bikes in working order for a decent price. While the bikes were mountain bikes, I just used them to ride around the local streets and beach. When I picked them up, they had new tires, gears, brake wires, seats and grips. I was amazed and totally frightened at what the cost might be. To my surprise, the price for both bikes was beyond reasonable and they knocked out the workin just a couples days. Huge respect to the techs who made the experience a great one. HIGHLY recommend this shop and especially Matt in service.

This is now my go to shop for parts and service. The mechanics really know what they are doing and turn around time is always reasonable given the volume of bikes they work on. They treat every bike with the same level of attention to detail, old or new.

I would suggest you use these folks as a resource because they are knowledgeable and somewhat helpful, but when you do decide to buy your bicycle, find either a TREK or Specialized store and buy it from there.What turns me off about these guys is that they will nickel and dime you to death coupled with a you-will-be-back; take-it-or-leave-it attitude.Most stores will bend over backwards to move bikes that are older, but these guys will treat a bike that has been out on the floor for two years, like it was just assembled and put in the showroom today. Their reasoning is such that these bikes dont go through a style change year to year so they dont depreciate in value. This statement is quite erroneous.Yes, they are a small business and yes, they are situated in an affluent area so their clientele is rather muted from price elasticity, but if you care about saving some cash and dont fall for the lifetime tune-ups and service with a smile offering, drive a few more miles and move on to another store.

They hook it up like a real bike shop should. The guys in service really know what theyre doing and are very flexible to get what you need done when you need it. Definitely my favorite and most trusted bike shop in the San Diego area

Black Mountain bikes has been my main LBS for several years. Their products are of decent quality. They have decent prices only when they have bikes on sale. Half the times when I walk into the store, I dont get a greeting or help at all, the employees are just standing around or walking around the store. At times, I actually have to call someone over for help. The manager and the woman with the British accent are nice though.If you are coming in for tools, MAKE SURE you do your research first before coming in. Ive had two experiences where after telling the employee which tool I needed and all the specs of my bike, they handed me the wrong tool. First was the wrong cassette lock ring tool and the second was the wrong bottom bracket tool. The manager was nice enough to give me a discount on the correct bottom bracket tool to compensate though.If youre going into the service department, try avoiding Chris ( tech). Hes extremely rude and condescending at times. If youre not completely experienced in bike parts or if youre unsure of what you need done on your bike, hes really impatient and he speaks like hes yelling at you. He also rushes you when youre trying to make up your mind about a decision. Not sure what his problem is. If you can, try getting help from Matt( tech). Hes a nice guy and really helpful. Hes pretty patient and never actually raises his voice at customers. Hes happy to help you and answer any questions you have about your bike.Overall, this bike shop needs to work on their customer service. Other than that, its a decent shop.

Only 2 things I didnt like, parking and no military discount. Other than that, they have the BEST of all mountain bikes! Mike sold me a sick Santa Cruz, and I am happy!

The techs and sales people here are knowledgable, patient, honest and helpful. They have taught me a lot on some finer points of the available bikes and components in terms technology, quality, and price, and they let me test ride several bikes out back. I ultimately bought used but i always go here for the low down on diy maintenance procedures and to buy necessary tools, parts, and accessories. Inventory is extensive and prices are decent and coming here for me is always worth the trip.

One of the very best shops around. Go in, talk to the employees, ask questions, and develop a relationship with them. You will be glad you did. They will take care of you very well once you do.

Service department has always been very good to me. I didnt purchase my bike here, but they have been extremely helpful servicing my bike and even fixing a component under warranty. I once brought in an abused wheel with two broken spokes. I asked the tech to true the wheel after repairing the broken spokes. The wheel was pretty bad when I brought it in, and I thought they did a good job getting it back in shape. However, he couldnt get it perfect so he refused to charge me for the truing service.

Bad service, brought my bike in early and was promised it later that day. Didnt get it until the next day almost 24 hours after I was told to pick it up. Not only that, but they overcharged me, treated me very badly, and the employees were cussing very frequently. I would drive to a bike shop 100 miles away than go to this one. Absolutely horrible.

The service guy was very friendly and when he looked at my bike was honest enough to tell me my bike was in great shape and i didnt need to spend the money. He took it in anyway to do a check up and if anything needs fixed he will fix it. And if he hits $40.00 he will stop. The next review will be about the results

Great knowledge, great service

I read several reviews and have several friends who have purchased bikes in the tens of thousands of dollars from BMB. I have a 2012 Kona Sitori and I am a big rider. I was having trouble climbing several mountains in San Diego and asked their staff if gearing might be the answer. We discussed it for a while and they came up with a solution.Every one of the other stores and bike techs I spoke with wanted to sell me a new bike. I loved the bike I had. We went from the original crankset to a new crankset wth a 22 tooth and a 34 tooth gear. That was the solution. I say we because it was their suggestion and it was the solution. I can now climb anything within reason and now enjoy climbing more than the hell I was experiencing. Thanks BMB.

BMB is easily the best bike shop in San Diego. While one or two employees may be less friendly then anticipated, the majority are above and beyond what any customer should expect. Not the cheapest on small products like tubes or tires, but only a couple bucks more than competitors, and its definitely worth it for the extra customer service, guidance and support for the local bike shop. They have the best service department in town, in reference to both price and customer service. Theyre not only the most knowledgeable mechanics Ive dealt with, but the friendliest. They will never make you feel stupid for not knowing something about a service. MATT is the BEST mechanic you will ever find in southern california, guaranteed. Never had a service he couldnt get done (and quickly), and not to mention hes the most professional and helpful person Ive ever had the pleasure of dealing with. 5/5 everytime.

Thanks to JD and Brian for getting me into a 2019 Specialized e-bike. We had to work through a few challenges related to the new model, but both Black Mountain and Specialized stepped up and solved the problems.
