If youre searching for a fun, unique, and tasty group experience, look no further than Laughing Gull Chocolates! We had a fairly large virtual event for our company (90 people), and thanks to Allison and Lindsay it was one of our most successful events ever! Everyone had such a great time tasting and learning all about chocolate - Lindsay was so knowledgeable, answered everyones questions and kept us entertained from start to finish. We also had a last-minute time change due to a mix-up on our end, but Allison and Lindsay were able to accommodate us on very short notice so everything went off without a hitch, which was truly amazing. And of course, the chocolate was delicious! This is a great event idea for groups of any age or size. Highly recommend!

My husband and I did a virtual chocolate and wine pairing for Valentine’s Day with Laughing Gull and Living Roots. It was our first time having Laughing Gull chocolates and we loved them all! You can really tell they use quality ingredients and put a lot of thought and care into their creations. Allison was great walking us all through tasting the chocolates and they paired so well with the wines. We can’t wait to visit the shop and try more! Would highly recommend!

I’ve now done THREE virtual events with Lindsay at Laughing Gull! I was an attendee at the first one through work, then organized two personal events. Lindsay and co were a pleasure to work with, hence why they became my go-to zoom activity for business, family and friends in Dec and Jan!Lindsay personalized each truffle making and chocolate tasting event for each group’s dietary restrictions and general preferences. Not only was each event super fun, but the chocolates were delicious. I loved that all the products are unique and ethically made. I learned a lot, tried a bunch of delicious chocolates, and now know how easy making truffles are! Thanks Laughing Gull!

I am SO GLAD I found this place! I had to set up a virtual team event and the amazing women at Laughing Gull worked with me to plan the perfect event for my team. We did a chocolate tasting with an overview of the history of chocolate and also made truffles! What a blast! Everyone had a great time. We had seasoned cooks as well as people who dont cook or bake at all - everyone loved it and had fabulous truffles to give as gifts and/or eat - as well as the knowledge of how to recreate them in the future! I am definitely telling all the event planners at work to check these folks out. I could not be happier!

The women behind Laughing Gull Chocolates are AMAZING, and they are on a mission to SAVE the WORLD one Truffle at a time. Not only do they have AMAZING truffles, they have seasonal truffles that keep me coming back for more. Any Truffle can become a hot chocolate. They pivoted for Covid and set up curb side pick up and online ordering for delivery. Pre-Covid (to return post-Covid) they have an amazing Family centered space where children are welcome to play while adults catch up over Chai and Hot Chocolates. They partner with local businesses and artists. I cannot say enough GOOD things about this business. Hands down, my favorite Chocolate Shop in Rochester.

Laughing Gull did gift baskets for our clients last year and we received such good feedback that we knew we had to get them again for our clients this year! Lindsay, Karla and Allison put together another beautiful basket for us at a very affordable price point. We love that we can get an assortment of locally source gourmet goodies and expose our clients to all the wonderful small business we have in our area. Their service is top notch and we are excited for our clients to enjoy some flour city pasta, guglielmo sauce, chai guy chai tea kit, laughing gulls bark & chocolate covered potato chips! My daughter had her 11th birthday party today at Laughing Gull Chocolates and it was an absolute hit! It was a perfect mix of fun and informative. The kids were able to make their own chocolate bark from start to finish. They were able to add their own toppings and learn so many fun facts about chocolate from the very personable host/co-owner/presenter. There was time at the end to enjoy cake and presents. My daughter said it was one of her best birthdays ever! I also may have enjoyed it even more than her! ❤

I dont know where to begin! How have I missed this gem of a business for so long?! Lindsay and Allison are both remarkable women with friendly and welcoming personalitys. My friends and I had a private Truffle making party for a friends birthday yesterday and we had the best time. Lindsays passion for chocolate and pride in her ethical business shined through her presentation as we enjoyed hearing the background of our favorite treat. We got to choose what kind of truffle to make and even made our own flavored hot chocolate that the Aztecs drank. The ladies truly go above and beyond and we cant wait to go back.

After a long day you can come and relax with your friends while your kids are in an area surrounded by toys, and other kids. The ladies who run it are extremely nice and give great customer service, as well as explaining to you their story about the business. Also the chocolate that is served is amazing, especially the truffles, which they wrap up in a cute little box for you. This is now my go to place for chocolates in the Rochester area.

I’ll start with how all the ladies that work there are super sweet, but I did not have a good time at the truffle making class. I felt like I was taking a college class, 90% of the workshop is them talking on and on about the history about chocolate. Some of it was cool, but to sit there for an hour listening to it was terribly boring. It was cool to learn how to actually make it like one part chocolate and one part heavy cream or whatever, but I truly think they should just have it ready and already made for the class. I was also very disappointed that it was ALL dark chocolate, which I don’t like. And the worst part is you don’t get to finish the truffle it’s only the filling in the middle. So I basically paid $40 for 6 unfinished truffles. She explained that the reason why is because it takes too long to make. Which I understand, but again they should have it ready and already premade for the class. And if infact they can’t do that then they should give the class gift bags of fully made truffles from their display cabinet. And the last thing that annoyed me is one of the people in the class was allergic to dairy so they made him a special batch just for him, so this kid got to make 20 truffles while the rest of us made 5-6. It is an hour and a half that could truly be done in 30-45 minutes if they were better prepared. I don’t recommend wasting your money.

Attended truffle class. I spent over $240 on 6 family embers to attend. I expected much more. The class was 90 minutes long and only the last 15 minutes was spent making truffles. This consisted off forming a ball and rolling in cinnamon and some other very simple items. At beginning of class they stared warming milk to pour into the chocolate and make ganache. Only 1 class member did this and consisted of just combining the two ingredients in a bowl. This was then taken to the fridge to cool. We also had samples of a few different types of chocolate to taste. These samples were miniscule. The other 75 minutes was talking about their personal experience with chocolate which was one afternoon at a chocolate farm. save your money and go buy chocolate truffles or buy some chocolate chips, microwave them, cool and roll in whatever you want. This class is definitely on the cheap.

I’ll start off by saying the owners were very friendly and welcoming. When it comes to the class, it was labeled and sold as a “truffle making” class but for the first hour one of the owners just gave the history and background of the chocolates and how they were created. The last 1/2 hour we just rolled (pre made) ganache in some toppings. From the way the online description was and expecting to make truffles rather than just roll them, it was rather disappointing.

After stopping by Laughing Gull Chocolate with my kids and tasting the wonderful hot chocolate and yummy truffles, I decided to do one of the chocolate making workshops with all of my co-workers at Laughing Gull Chocolate’s new location on East Main Street. It was awesome! Lindsay is so passionate about chocolate and while we were making delicious truffles she taught us about where chocolate comes from, how it is made, some history of chocolate and even about the morality of chocolate. We learned about fair and direct trade chocolate, got to taste chocolate in many different forms, see beautiful photos of Cacoa trees and even play with a Cacao pod full of seeds (cocoa beans), and made lots of heavenly truffles that we could take home to share with our families (or just eat all ourselves) We all had a great time and such a fun night. This was a great opportunity to do and learn something different and I would highly recommend taking the classes (or just stopping by for a treat.)UPDATE: They also host lots of baby/toddler meetups which are awesome if you have a young one at home and now serve yummy ice cream!

This is a review for truffle making class. Overall this was an ok class. I went in thinking I would learn a lot about how to make truffles (technical aspects, troubleshooting etc) but it turned out to be more of a lecture-style on the history of chocolate. The lecture part lasted approx 45 minutes and making chocolate The last 15 min. It was slightly uncomfortable listening to the lecture--- the owner is knowledgeable about the history of chocolate -- but I think bringing in the political aspect is a bit much for an hour long class and she ended up glossing over an obviously complicated subject matter. She briefly touched on chocolate history in Latin America and mentioned Europeans coming to America in order to proselytize and also mentioned chocolate slavery in Western Africa. However, she spent most of the time talking about her honeymoon is SE Asia. I think with some tweaks the class could be a lot better - 1) shorten the lecture aspect to fifteen min tops (or let the customers be doing things like sampling the chocolates or rolling truffles WHILE we learn about a LIMITED history 2) talk more about the technicality of truffles (the only thing I learned was that you mix cream with chocolate to make ganache -- not the ratio or temperature or how to mix in flavors or how to temper chocolate) 3) consider investing in better looking tables / chairs / bowls (the bowls with chocolate were an eclectic mix of bad looking plastic Tupperware) 4) save the part about the honeymoon for a friends night not for customers 5) have ganache already made so we dont have to wait 45 min for it to be frozen and ready (after they told us it should be refrigerated but they were taking a short cut by putting it in freezer). In an ideal class it would be great for each customer to be hands on with making the ganache so we can see and feel how it should look. The class should be focused on makingtruffles not history. This could be a good class it just needs some work first before I would consider paying forty dollars again.

WARNING! Do Not take chocolate making classes here! They are not as advertised! I took my whole family to a chocolate making class as an 80th birthday present for my Grandma and it was awful. First of all, the store front is in an old dirty building that stinks when you walk in the door. It also looks like it doubles as a daycare because there are mats and children’s toys everywhere. I tried to keep an open mind at this point and was still excited for the class. The owner led the class and began by having us make some ganache. This seemed like it would be fun, but all we did was scoop a few chocolate chunks into rusty bowls that looked like they came from Goodwill. We added some cream to the bowls and then she disappeared into the back to make it. When she came back out she proceeded to drone on for an hour about how chocolate companies are evil and that children in Africa work on cocoa farms. She clearly studied abroad for half a second in college and now feels the need to shove her views in everyone’s face and tell them they are ignorant for eating chocolate. How dare we?! When that torture was finally over, she brought back the half frozen ganache that she made for us earlier and we got to roll it into balls to take home. The chocolate wasn’t even good. I paid $35 per person for a horrible evening and messy chocolate balls that were mediocre at best. I should have asked for a refund.
