Needed a broken spoke replaced on the front wheel of my wifes bike. Spoke was replaced and the wheel trued quickly and at a reasonable price. Great folks and dog friendly.
I hustled and got there 9 minutes before they closed and they were so polite and helpful. They not only fixed my bike, but offered to tune up other areas that needed attention and I really appreciated that. The cost was more than reasonable and I’m overjoyed to be back up and running again.
Very nice staff awesome my new bike store
We bought a Schwinn bike for my husband on March 24 at Port City Bikes. The owners were friendly and very helpful. They gave us options to choose among and selected bikes based on my husbands height so that the bike would be a comfortable fit. It was a great experience. We recommend them highly and will use them again without hesitation.
11/10. Rarely am I this motivated to write a review, but honestly - do not get your bike repaired ANYWHERE ELSE. Port City reigns supreme. My bike hasnt ridden this smoothly EVER. Even when it was brand new. I just had my repairs done and I feel like Im riding a completely different bike, in the best way. I didnt love my bike before because it was just kind of meh, but after having it repaired at Port City, I realized it was meh because I have been getting it repaired at inferior shops. Port City is prompt, friendly, AFFORDABLE, convenient, and an amazing local business to support. If you have any question as to where in Portland, ME you should be getting your bike tuned up/repaired, look no further. Port City, baby!!
Just what it should be, friendly, fair, and fast. Two very nice people taking good care of their community.
Peter and Karen provide a great service. They discuss everything with me before doing any work and respect my input.
Port City Bikes is my go to place for bike maintenance and repairs. Excellent service, fair prices, and great people. Highly recommended!
The owner is so nice
This is what bike shops should look like in a post-capitalist society! The service is useful, honest, and lacks pretension. I will go out of my way to a shop where I can actually have a normal human interaction with the person working there.
Just the nicest people and great bikes!
Even though I didnt find a bike at this store, the owner was still willing to tell me about other stores in the area and even gave me a tip about volunteering for the Great Maine Bike Swap to get a first look at the bikes there. As a result, I was able to get a great deal on a used road bike! The store is somewhat small, but they seem to have everything that you could want packed into it. It makes for a cozy, welcoming atmosphere for anyone interested in bicycles.
Peter and Karyn are great people and their shop is awesome! Great service, bikes, and parts at reasonable prices. This is the place to come to fix up your ride or find a classic steel bike.
Peter is a true bike geek in the best way and focuses on a lot of older more specialized steel and boutique bicycles. He sells used bicycles and can help you find something just right. He can do a quick, inexpensive fix for you and prioritizes those of us that commute by bicycle to get us back on the road quickly. Expect a very casual encounter in this tiny shop and dont hesitate to check back in on their progress or your expected order of some part or another. Very reasonable rates and always good conversation!
Just about the coolest place, Ive ever been. Pete and Karyn know their stuff and have a great sense of humor! Ive bought a few bikes from them and have them tune up my bikes too! Class A act.
Good service, reasonable price.
An example of a great small town business. They stick to what they know and are the best at it. Accurate pricing and good for anyone who is looking for honest hard work put into a good tune-up. Theyll keep your chain turning.
Vast knowledge, connected to the community, enthusiastic about all velocipedian matters, and down to Earth.
Just left Port City Bikes. They were very friendly and helpful. Will be back!
The staff is helpful, knowledgeable and eager to please. They fix bikes and sell new and used. This place reminds me of the set of the 1970s TV show Chico and the Man.
The top notch service at this quality bike shop is only surpassed by the honest and friendly vibes youre welcomed with every time you walk in. If youre looking for your neighborhood bike shop, look no further.
Pretty much what youd want out of a small local business. The owners are clearly knowledgeable, friendly and ready to help out.
Great quality and fast service, affordable, and the nicest people!
Wide selection of old style road bikes. These are very affordable an a place Id recommend to check first before anywhere else.
What nice people! Well definitely go back.
Bought a 90s cannondale 2.8 in great shape at a fair price. very friendly staff that is also knowledgable and helpful. definitely would recommend them
Great service from this shop - we had a bike fall and get damaged while transporting and were very pleased with the service at this shop.
I had a good experience here. They seem very nice and did what they said they would for the price they said they would. I cant ask for anything more. I wont be going anywhere else. I had a very old beat up bike they brought it back to life.
Wonderful people, great customer services, they are open on Sunday and they fixed my bike
Very friendly, bike was tuned up well, and at a reasonable price.
Peter was very knowledgeable and resourceful to fix my late-80s Centurion. Next time I need anything for my bike, I know where Im headed.
Peter at Port City Bikes built a bike for me from a frame I bought on ebay. He is very knowledgeable on what bike parts work best for your needs. Theyll help you out without all the techno-bable.
I sought out Port City Bikes on the advice of many down-to-earth, bike-loving friends. My initial encounter with the owner was great -- he showed me around his shop, took his time and helped me evaluate fit on a bike. I settled on a model that he said needed a few repairs but he could have it done in about 2 weeks, and I should call him then. Thus began the worst game of phone tag ever. I got him on the phone three times, and each time I had to jog his memory with who I was and what I wanted, and he would tell me to call back in another week. Eventually he stopped picking up and I stopped calling. I couldnt figure out why this guy would continually ignore me after I had left him all my contact info and agreed to pay him $200 for a used bike. Completely bizarre, and even if there were circumstances beyond his control it was awful customer service.
Everything a bike shop should be. Nothing it shouldnt.
