I purchased a set of wheels from Sugar Wheel Works in summer of 2020. I am a big rider at 67 and 285 lbs. I kept on breaking all my spokes. I have had my wheels from SWW for over a year now and I havent had any issues with breaking spokes or any other worries. 10/10 I would recommend.

Bought a new set of hoops for my Steel Hampsten a few months ago. Alex was awesome and quite patient helping me discover what would work the best....he thought of clearance issues that I never considered and had I purchased what I originally wanted It would not have been optimal, if it had worked at all. The Wheels are sublime and portray a smoothness and solidity that is quite discernible compared to my older DT Swiss build .....which was a high bar...until I rode my Sugars. Wheels matter, Materials matter....but how they are built (and who builds them) is a tangible nuance that is worth discovering and experiencing. Thanks again Sugar! I plan on being back on my next build. Cheers!

So far so good! Im looking for new wheels and to possibly take the sugar wheel works wheel building class. I spoke to Alex on the phone and he was by far the most helpful bike industry type person I have spoken to in a very long time. Super refreshing to speak to someone who seems to care about your customer experience. I will buy wheel here. Peace

Great customer experience, this shop is the place to go for anything wheel related when it comes to bikes. Jude and Nick were really knowledgeable and built me a new set of HED wheels for my commuter bike. There was a delay in getting the original rims I ordered, I showed up to pick up my bike and Jude informed me that they upgraded my rims at no cost so I could get back on the road. Also, really nice shop dog, Ozzie. Thanks Sugar Wheel Works!

Purchase a new rear wheel June 2013. Great service and very competitive pricing. In two months of hard hiding, no loose spokes and wheel has stayed true. When I purchased this wheel, I visited a lot of other bike shops before heading to Sugar Wheel Works as it was a little bit out of my way. Next time I need a wheel or wheel servicing Ill save myself the time and go straight to Sugar Wheel Works.Highly Recommended.

I had Jude build me a wheel set five years ago, and was blown away by how they transformed my ride. Simply the best, she and her team are true wheel artisans. Had her build a second set a couple of years later and both are still running true. Dont buy factory wheels, get yourself true hand-built wheel set and youll never go back.

Great customer service. I do not live in the Portland area, but knew about Sugars great reputation. I was able to email them and got a response back within the same day. After providing them with some basic riding info Jason was able to suggest a build with every piece of the build specd for my type of riding, terrain and my size. Clear rationale was given for the choices as well – pro all the way, and turnaround time was great.Cant wait to order my next set of wheels from them.

Well, how about an owner who is friendly, knowledgeable, supportive, inspiring, and makes you feel special. Late in the day I walked in to the shop and received some of the best customer service Ive experienced.I had a wheel start failing on my on my ride home and luckily was right next to the shop.I spoke with Jude and Jason and they came up with a great build plan to get me back on the road using my existing hubs, but with a rim and spoke set up that met my needs. I was given a couple of options and while we worked through those and decided on a build they were able to help get me back on the road that evening while my rims were being built.

I needed some spare spokes for my HED wheels for a 2 week bike tour in the Washington Cascades. After trying a couple of bike shops, one suggested Sugar Wheel Works. They were great, measuring and getting the right spokes, of which the wheels used 3 different varieties. Terrific service. Now I just hope I dont have to use them on the tour.

I have worked with Jude on sever custom wheel builds over the past several years. Each time, Jude has provided both excellent customer service and an outstanding final product. This has been true for both the $500 touring wheelset I needed in a hurry and the $2500 racing wheelset that I designed for a friend. Jude has also done repair and service work on my wheels; her estimates are accurate and her turn-around is speedy.I can not recommend Jude and Sugar Wheel Works highly enough! If you need wheels or wheel service, this is the place to go!

I recently acquired a beach cruiser style bike and while the frame and fenders were great the wheelset was definitely sub standard. They were ok but the Chinese no name coaster brake rattled noisily when coasting the the rims only supported a low pressure inflation. So after searching around I found Sugar wheel builders right in Portland. I live in Central Oregon. I was not sure looking at the site that they could build me a set of 29 wheels for 2.125 in tires and a coaster brake setup. After a few email exchanges Jude told me they could accommodate me. I was stunned at the quality of the wheels and rims they chose and the Shimano Coaster brake hub. The are super smooth riding and absolutely quiet when coasting. Wow what a difference. They shipped them to me in their special boxes and arrived undamaged and I quickly assembled my wheels and got them on the bike and had a super ride.

She tried to hustle me (rip me off) That`s like stealing right? She wanted to charge me 5 bucks a spoke, 50.00 for ten spokes! When just earlier Universal Cycles sold me the same spoke for 3.00 a spoke. I left her shop I went to Cyclepath and they custom cut and threaded and sold me the same spokes for 3.00 a spoke. Indulge your inner mad scientist yeah right, just more people that want to shatter hopes and dreams. Don`t go to Sugar Wheel Works, go to Cyclepath or Universal Sugar = Shady

If there is a better wheel builder in Portland, I dont know them. Customer service and knowledge is outstanding. Value is excellent.I went in with a rear wheel that another shop had built for me and that was falling apart after only 650 miles. My objective was to have them do a TandT on it and make it right. Jason was very patient, asked all the right questions, and even some that I had not thought about. This wheel was for my rain bike/touring/CX/commuter and I told them I had to have it back ASAP. Jason said he would get it done by their closing time. Super accommodating.About an hour later, Jason called me with the news that my hoop had cracks at the spoke holes and that it was never going to be right. Over the phone, he walked through my options and we settled on a HplusSons Archetype hoop, butted spokes and my existing White Bros CX-11 disc hub in a 3x pattern. Even discussed appearance - all black. And the kicker - he wouldhave it built and ready for pickup that afternoon so I could ride the following day. And, the price was very good. Picked it up and found they had actually removed the old spokes (not cut them!) and had them and the old hoop bundled for me. Attention to detail, customer service. And a really good looking wheel.I refitted the wheel and immediately noticed the difference in performance - stiff, solid, and fast, even for a touring setup on a laden bike. Im a happy customer. I wish all good things to the folks in this great shop.If you want great wheels on your bike, put some Sugar on it.
