Experience was wonderful. Right when I walked into the office. By far the most theroux eye exam I have had since I left the East coast. I have such piece of mind. All my questions were answered, and explained. There was no rush. I felt like I was the only patient in the office.
I brought my son in for his first eye exam, and I couldn’t be happier that I chose Primary Eye Care of Ahwatukee. . Staff is wonderful, and Dr. Jenna is amazing! She was very thorough, and explained everything to me. I would definitely recommend, and wouldn’t go anywhere else for my son’s eye care!
Great customer service! Very kind and helpful associates. Cassie helped me pick out my new glasses, and I love them. She really took her time with me and I really appreciated that. This is a new Dr for me and she was wonderful. I’m very happy I chose this office.
Im not a patient here yet, but the care I just received over the phone was phenomenal! I had an outstanding circumstance that needed quick attention, and the receptionist was willing to go out of her way to get me what I needed. Will 100% be switching to Primary Eye Care going forward!
My glasses were broken, and I wasn’t expecting them to be able to be fixed, but I came in, and they did it for me!! Incredible service.
Cute little office. Has both a professional yet homey environment to it. Loved all the different choice in glasses I could choose from. That Piper girl is such a darling. She really made everything painless after I got my eyes dilated.
I have been a patient for more than 8 years and have nothing but praise for Dr. DeRubis. He is very knowledgeable, kind and caring. I have Macular Degeneration and he sent me to a specialist for this and he to is excellent. You cant go wrong with seeing him.
Great 👍
Glad they were open on Saturday for urgent care due to abrasion *** No masks on staff, including the doctor! Uncomfortable listening to everyones diagnosis relayed to all in the waiting area after each exam. I was tempted to intervene during the slick heavy upsell pressure for those getting gouged buying glasses. Not for me.
Dr. DeRubeis is the best! We wouldn’t trust anyone else with our eyes!
Dr. De Rubeis is nice and seems thorough. The exam seemed very comprehensive. The prices are not competitive at all (i paid 700+ dollars so i expected better service / quality etc which i did not receive). They never called me when my glasses were ready i had to keep calling them. I asked for an itemized receipt for my insurance and they gave me some sort of ledger that doesnt even qualify as a receipt and i think they ran out of ink so the numbers arent even legible. I would think for a medical office they would know what an itemized receipt is. Staff is rude! (not all but some are). Got my sunglasses today (because i called them ) regular glasses still on back order. My exam was two weeks ago and no one bothered to tell me my glasses were on back order. I regret going to Primary eye care center of Ahwatukee for my eye care needs. I uploaded a picture of my sunglasses so you can judge the quality for yourself
Service is good but frame selection is limited and prices are not competitive. For some reason they would not fit my wife for contacts quoting that she had a slight astigmatism and was not a candidate for contacts. Another optometrist right down the street couldnt understand this. They had tons of contacts options for her to try and ordered several different ones to see which she liked the best.I was initially pleased but after seeing what other local optometrists had to offer I will probably not go back.
Ive been a patient of Dr. DeRubis for over 10 years. Very complete and professional.
I have been a patient of Dr. DeRubeis for the past 8 years along with my entire family. He continues to give us the best eye exams we have ever had. It is obvious that he cares deeply about all of our eyes and our health. His staff has always been very nice and courteous and helpful. The quality of lenses they use in their eyeglasses are the best and we have had great service with both glasses and contact lenses. Cant recommend his and his office enough!
Thank you so much for seeing my husband yesterday, they squeezed him in because he had metal that was rusting in his eye. We appreciate you and your care. I will be recommending your practice. Thank you Debbie for working with us.
Very disappointed with this place. They are not accommodating to their customers. My wife has contacts and ran out before her year was up. she asked for the prescription to get contacts to cover her until her next appt which was about a month away. They would not accommodate as they wanted to wait until her next eye exam. She then asked for a couple of sample pairs she could use to get by until then. they gave her one pair (to last a month) and it was not even her prescription, as they said to me when i picked them up for her it is close to her prescription, but she should be okay. The day of my wifes yearly appt. she goes in and they wont see her b/c they cannot figure out if she is due for appt. Her last appt was 10/12/18, today was 10/14/18, over one year so she is eligible. In addition to not being able to figure out if she is eligible they tell her it will be a $140 fitting fee. All my wife needs is an updated prescription so she can order contacts. Eventually my wife is fed up and tells them we will find a new eye Dr and walks out.We make some calls to other local Ahwatukee Eye doctors, we have an appt for her the same day at 5 pm. They were able to verify immediately over the phone that she was eligible for yearly exam and our cost will just be our co-pay.
The doctor doesnt wash his hands before he touches your eye lids. They also dont wipe down the chin table for the examination. Dont even get me started on the weird emo chick who has a wrist brace and comes in all creepy without saying anything.. Paid my co-pay. Fine. Got prescribed $50 eye drops not covered by my insurance for a bacterial infection. Went back for a follow up a week later for this guy to tell me oh! You can stop taking the drops, its a viral infection now so theres nothing you can really do. Intake more vitamin C. Heres some samples of over the counter eye drops and it even has a coupon. Are you serious? wow! I still had to pay for an office visit. They werent there to help me get better, they were there to make money. Such a greedy company. I will never step foot in there again.
Great experience and most thorough eye exam of my life. We recently moved to the valley and I was referred to Dr. Derubeis from a friend. Very happy with the service and the staff was very informative and helpful. My whole family will be back!
My husband had been wearing contact lenses for 15 years at least from different eyes doctors and didn’t realize how bad his contact lens were until he went to see Dr. DeRubis...My husband was so happy and he can see much better and also so clear..highly recommended...
OVOID AT ALL COST!! YOUR EYE HEALTH IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN HIS POCKET BOOK.I was a patient of Dr Rubeis for over 14 years...this included my wife and 3 children. In the beginning he was an outstanding eye care provider. Service was excellent and prices were reasonable. They worked hard to maximize my insurance benefits. However, after they moved offices to the new location everything changed. Service is horrible and the office staff is rude at times...not always, but your mileage may vary.Worst of it came this past year after I got my yearly examination and went to select my new glasses. I wear progressive bifocals and have outstanding (Cadillac) insurance. The office manager tried to insist my cost for the lenses was $349 when the insurance company told me $129. Thats a big price gouge. Needless to say...I went elsewhere and purchased the same frames and lenses for the proper price after insurance deductibles.Worst part come 2 months later when I noticed everything was getting cloudy. Made an appointment with the doctor to get it checked. Arrived at their offices and the manager insisted that it was not a follow-up to a two month old script and I needed to pay $100 for another full exam. Mind you, the year had rolled over and my exams are free yearly. They didnt care...even after talking to my insurance company. I left.Went to a new eye doctor and found out I had advanced cataracts. Theyve been there for years and this idiot just wrote a new script each year to make a buck. I had to have both of my lenses replaced by an eye surgeon. This a-hole was more interested in making a dollar off me then my optical health.
I cant say thanks enough about Dr. DeRubeis and his dedicated staff.I recently saw flashes of light on a weekend and called his office. They got me in immediately on a Saturday even though they were fully booked. The doctor was great and he found that I had a partially detached retina that was close to causing me to lose my vision permanently. All of the retinal surgeons offices were closed, but Dr. D. kept calling the surgeon on his personal cell phone and finally arraigned for me to be seen that afternoon. I had surgery within a few hours and the surgeon told me I was very lucky because I would have been blind by the next day if Dr. DeRubeis had not been so persistent to get me in to the surgeon.I owe my vision and my ability to do my job to him and his staff. Very professional and obviously cares deeply about his patients. Cannot recommend him enough!
Our entire family used to go to Primary Eye Care Center. I still think he is a very good doctor but cant continue to go there due to his open disregard for his patients time. Today, my wife went there and arrived a little before her scheduled appointment. After waiting for more than a half-hour, she asked one of the staff how much longer it would be before she saw the doctor. She was told that there were three people ahead of her that had not been seen. She cancelled her appointment and left. Several months ago, I had a similar experience and asked the doctor why there was always such a long wait. His response was that he intentionally overbooked due to some patients not showing for their appointments. The end result is that this policy results in patients who respect their scheduled appointment time get penalized because of people who dont. He has lost four long-term patients who will never return. Perhaps he has a never-ending supply of new patients so he can continue to show disrespect for his patients time.
Beware! I went in for routine eye exam and new glasses. Picked out three pair valued for a total of over $3000. Good quality frames, top of the line lenses – should have been easy peasy, right? After not finding “frameless” frames that fit, staff insisted they could adjust to fit anything I picked out. So I picked out a frame and lenses I liked. After several adjustments that didn’t get the glasses to fit, then finally ordering the same frame as my “old” glasses, and then getting lenses sized properly - the glasses fit. I work, I have stuff to do. I don’t want to spend my time running back and forth getting my glasses to fit. When I went to pick them up staff were so rude! Not a “really sorry for all this trouble,” nope. They just handed me the glasses and didn’t even pretend that they were going to sit down to see if they fit. And my sunglasses? I’ve been wearing polarized prescription sunglasses for years. I happen to know a lot of other people who do as well. I’ve never had an issue with them. My sunglasses arrived with the edges and far into the middle of the lenses blotchy and streaked. They remade them. Although not as bad as the first pair, the newly made pair were still blotchy and streaked on the edges. Staff said my only option was to remove the Polaroid film. Would they refund what I paid for the fancy Polaroid film? Nope, because they’d already remade them once. Like it was my fault. Staff said lots of polarized glasses are streaky around the edges but I must be “sensitive” to it. What I’m sensitive to is paying for something I don’t get or have to fight to get. Oh, and the third pair? My computer glasses were great, no problem. The doctor seemed fine and the actual prescriptions were fine. But the expensive genetic test to determine treatment options for macular degeneration? It’s been two months and no one from the office has even bothered to give me the results. There are other lots of other options in this market and I see I should have read their reviews before dropping such a chunk of change down here. Steer clear!
Ok ✅
Extremely friendly and helpful!
I have been a customer for about 10 years to the tune of about $1000 a year. NO MORE. Recently, I spent over $800 on frames/lenses that were never correct. The office kept insisting I give them a try and get used to them. Dr. De Rubeis saw they were not placed correctly to my retinas, but I still could not see through them. They kept telling me to try, and not to worry, they would make them right. I told the office specifically I would try them, but did not want to keep getting pushed past a warranty. I was assured that would not happen. After headaches and nausea, and lost work productivity, I decided I had enough. I returned wanting a refund. The office manager did not even look at my file and said I was past the warranty. EXACTLY what I was worried about. After insisting they remake the glasses that are still not right, I discovered I was NOT over the warranty. The office manager just did not want to lose any money. I purchased nicer frames/lenses at a higher quality at a competitor and they fit perfectly, not a single adjustment. I can see clearly. Even after repeated requests, Dr. De Rubeis never had the professional courtesy to even call me to discuss. I guess keeping $800 means more than a longstanding customer/patient. BEWARE.
My wife and I have been patients of Dr. De Rubeis for several years. We like the doctor a lot but the front office staff is terrible. Also, every time we go in, they have all new people working up there.Last May, we had exams and bought new frames and lenses to the tune of about $1000. My wife almost immediately began having problems with scratching on her lenses (they were scratch-resistant and she only used the cleaner and cloth provided by the office). The office said they would order replacement lenses under warranty and let us know when to bring in the frames. Weeks go by, no word. She called again, office said they would take care of it. More weeks go by, no word. She called again ... you get the picture. This went on for at least a couple months. We finally got busy with other things and forgot to follow up for the umpteenth time.Today, we went in for CONTACT exams. After the exams, she asked about the lens issue from previously and, of course, nobody knew anything about it (they are all new). and she was told they are out of warranty now anyway. Ok, fine. She asked about getting the contact prescription so we could just mail order the contacts and was told by a lady that you didnt have a contact exam. My wife told her she informed them when she made the appointment. The lady looked at her paperwork and said, oh yeah, I see it on here, but you should have told him when you went in. I can see my wife becoming irritated. She asked again about the prescription and was told she couldnt have it until they ordered trial lenses and test fitted them (another fee, of course) before the prescription would be released. When asked why this was the first time my wife was hearing about this, the lady had no answer. My wife is about to go in for surgery and wont be able to come back for a while, so knowing this ahead of time was very important. She also started to have an attitude with my wife which, trust me, is a VERY BAD IDEA. My wife told them that their front office service has gone to hell, and we left.Very disappointing. We will not be back. We have contacted our insurance company.
The other people leaving a review here have left it in the wrong place. This review is for Primary EYE CARE center of Ahwahtukee, where Dr. DeRubeis is the Optometrist.I came in for my first eye check up and got so much more. I never understood the importance of having an eye exam until I saw Dr. DeRubeis. He took his time with me, explained everything that had to do with my eyes in detail, and thoughtfully answered my questions. I wish all Doctors were as thorough as him!The staff there were really nice too. I felt welcomed and they were really informative about the products they offer. I got top of the line glasses from a top of the line eye care business! Youre in good hands here!
Poor customer service
Not a fan...
