Philadelphia is a breakfast city and one of the best can be found at the unassuming and homey Sams Morning Glory. Their delicious offerings such as sausage gravy and corned beef hash are made even better by Sams signature square tall biscuit. Be sure to try the house made catsup even if you dont THINK you like that condiment. Make sure to keep at least a corner of your biscuit to try their scrumptious berry and apricot preserves.
The food was so good, and well priced especially because the portion sizes match! The potatoes were bomb (you gotta ask for them with onions it’s even better). The entire ambiance was very wholesome and family friendly, a great place to catch up with friends over brunch. Our server Cotton was super nice, accommodating, funny, and friendly. Will definitely be recommending to others and coming back in the future.
As a New Yorker visiting Philly, I was extremely impressed with the selection on the menu. Cotton warmly and cheerfully greeted us as we entered and was just such a delight. We ordered a couple things and I have to say the homemade jam, the mac and cheese and the monkey French toast are INCREDIBLE. Highly recommend this home style breakfast spot and Cotton honestly cheers the whole place up!
Not a bad experience. The food is pretty good, and the coffee exceptional, but there is room for improvement. The breakfast potatoes were undercooked and the garnishment was a bit overwhelming. The diner could also use some updating. Even so, the pricing and the service were exceptional and I would definitely go back for a bite if ever in the neighborhood.
Great service! The wait staff was delightful, and the food was delicious. You could really tell that everything was made with care, right down to the whipped cream. I am also really happy with how the business is visibly supportive of reproductive rights. Your voice is power, and I am happy to support a business that isnt afraid to use its voice to support us.
Their breakfast is always excellent. The homemade whipped cream is to die for and they have several unique specials every month.
The service was good. However the food needs to be upgraded. The biscuit needs more moisture and flavor. The grits were bland.
The staff was friendly, the cooks are great and they make their own ketchup! (a little spicy but good)
The food here was disgusting, ordered the sausage and gravy and it was hideous.1: The gravy was salty, lumpy and must have been out all day because it had hard dried out chunks of gravy. This happens when it sits, drys and gets mixed up.2: The sausage was dry, hard and vile.3: The biscuits were salty, and with the already salty beyond disgusting gravy it was horrid. And to top it off the potatoes had more salt than all over it combined. The food here is slop, and not made for human consumption.
My partner and I ordered takeout from this establishment earlier this morning. Customer service was great and the food was hot and fresh. In terms of flavor, the food was just okay. Both of our orders (veggie frittata with potatoes and biscuit, albacore tuna sandwich) were bland and could have used some more salt. Whether you like the food is really based on your seasoning preferences, I think.
Food and service were fantastic. I wish I got the name of the young man that helped us. He was incredibly friendly ans always wore a smile. Not crazy about the political rhetoric hanging in the window. When I go out to eat, I like to be imursed in the experience. Politics do not need to be everywhere, But it is a free country and I celebrate the restaurants right to do so.
Home made corned beef hash is sooooo good! The biscuits are amazing with the berry jam! The home made ketchup should be bottled and sold! ILL BE BACK!
This place is the best breakfast joint in philly. their rye bread is to die for… literally if i was on death row and they asked for my final meal i would request their rye bread with the homemade jam. 10/10 would recommend!
Terrific atmosphere, great food and wonderfully friendly service! Will be back!
Its not what it used to be. The quality isnt the same. Looking back I am a bit disappointed though I wanted to be fair in the case the restrictions took part in that. The menu is cringe if youre looking for a meal without politics in it. I want to give the benefit of doubt for I gave 4 stars but honestly I am not sure if Id go so far out of my way with no parking to try them again. *Seeing as they are okay serving overpriced trash quality pancakes to people on benches next to smelly overflowing garbage cans I dont see a point in giving them more credit than they have earned. The food isnt the same quality it was. If you have any questions about whats in the food or where something is from you get an awkward head shake and I dont know. The coffee is watery like the grounds were reused and the cringe of the menu comes form naming a pancake There was no January 5th, only January 6th! So much edge, so woke. As a registered Democrat in a democrat run city Im telling you your politics aint covering up for the fact you stopped caring about the food quality so find a better excuse. No one is going to go that far out of their way to eat something that expensive in this economy for a mediocre experience when theres a bunch of places with organic, gluten free, and vegan options and the staff know where theyre food is from. Thats the last time I give extra stars in a pity review for the sake of trying to promote locals.
Timing is everything in this place. If you dont get there at the right time you may be waiting quite a while. Interesting food combinations excellent overall. Little pricey for breakfast but basically worth it average 20 bucks ahead
Best breakfast i think Ive ever had. I even saved some just to eat for later. Would recommend 100%. The homemade ketchup is fantastic!
Hard to imagine a more satisfying breakfast, or better service. Everything is as I wish it might be. Delicious Mediterranean egg scramble, French toast, pancakes, buttermilk biscuits, ever-full coffee cup. Slight above average prices for a premium dining experience. Also, very kid-friendly with a 2 year old at the table. The homemade ketchup is like Heinz with some zing.
This was my go-to breakfast place when i lived in Philadelphia and always return when in town. The biscuits are amazing and they have meals to satisfy both the sweet and savory breakfast lovers. Be prepared to wait outside. If going on a weekend, go early to avoid longer waits.
Was great, owner Carol was very friendly and service was excellent. Great place to go with family.
I liked the restaurant, the food was good, quick, and reasonably priced. It was very warm the particular day I went and I hope they solve their cooling situation with the summer months approaching. Opening windows with the stove in the main dining area did not do anything.
I had the French toast and dear Lord it was incredible. Homemade whipped cream, super friendly staff, what more could you ask for?
Very quaint, friendly diner. Great service. Loved the names given to the menu items. My husband and I shared the This Aint IHOP Breakfast Platter and it was very filling, not sure how one person eats the whole thing. Cash only currently.
This place was great, loved the staff, and the atmosphere was unique. This place is small but its worth the wait. This is a cash only place but if you forget there is an ATM on the inside. They have outdoor seating in the Spring and Summer but not in the colder months. There is a breakfast bar but Im not sure if you have to put you name on the waitlist to be seated there. As for the food, it was really good and they have vegan options.
Breakfast was perfect. Cozy place with friendly staff, our order was made quickly, our coffee never ran dry! Parking is a little challenging given the location but worth the meal! I will visit again!
Awesome server, food was fresh and expertly prepared. Very generous servings. Highly recommend.
Stopped in on Friday and the food is beyond disgusting. Flavorless pancakes, dry and overcooked, the burrito had withered greens on the plate and was also disgusting. Got a side of fruit, the blueberries werent washed and still had stems in them. Mangoes were not fresh, slimmy and the bananas were like a week to ripe.Who walks out of this place satisfied, and who actually leaves positive reviews?
We’ve been waiting to visit this ridiculously good diner! And we’ve come a long way for it! (The Netherlands)Extremely friendly staff, fast service, coffee refills made my heart race! And the food!! Everything super fresh and taste on point!Would highly recommend this diner!Ps. Love the morning glory specials menu items! 😂
The patio dining was lovely. The Scramble was delicious and the house sauce was something else in the best ways. I loved how tongue and cheek the menu was with the theme.I ate and had fun; what more can you get out of a dining experience?
My personal favorite in Philly. Always fantastic specials. Top notch taste and flavor combinations. Always something exciting.
Fantastic brunch! Delicious, fresh, not greasy (but very indulgent) food. Quick friendly service, and a nice setting. We ordered of the special menu and got three items, each one exceeded expectations. We did have to put our names down as we arrived at peak time but the turnover was fast and well worth the wait.
AMAZING quality. Everything made from scratch, including the awesome ketchup. 1000% worth the wait
To be fair it was a busy day( 4th July holiday weekend). That been said, I have the following observations:1. Coffee was warm, not Hot.2. My steak was well done (I requested it medium well)3. Heads up, The potatoes are spiced with a herb, we think might be thyme or rosemary, which adds a very particular taste. I didnt like it.4. The time we had to wait between ordering and the actual food coming to our table was about 40 minutos.
Have not been to this place in years...the food was good, love the coffee in the tin mugs.....just one complaint, my potatoes and sausage could have been much hotter, they were warm, like they had been sitting for a while, my eggs were nice and hot...i would recommend it...
Absolutely wonderful breakfast. Great service too. I’m really really full🤓
The food was very good and the atmosphere and ambiance was pleasant. The coffee was amazing, and so too was the service.
Everything is always great. Best coffee around!
Expensive for the food quality. The eggs in the burrito were raw and gross, the onions were also not cooked, it was literally the worse breakfast burrito Ive had. The potatoes were not cooked either, but the spice was burned. This place wasnt worth the money or the time. 3/10 at best. Price was above advantage.
We go to Philly for their pancakes, usually 1-3 times a year. Why? They have the most delicious banana and chocolate chip pancakes in the world! They serve them to you with hot maple syrup and whipped cream! If you add sausage or bacon on the side, please know they are locally sourced and amazing!Below are pictures of their veggie frittata, homemade biscuits, and all the works. They also make their own jam and ketchup! Yum!
Was great, food was perfectly packed & really good. Staff was friendly at pick up.
Based on other Google reviews, I was very excited to enjoy a traditional diner experience at the Morning Glory Diner. Unfortunately that didn’t happen.1) it’s really not an actual ‘diner’2) the food was meh and overpriced. I had high hopes for the focaccia breakfast sandwich and was very underwhelmed. The grits were the only redeeming feature.3) the service was probably the worst part of it. Waiter seemingly forgot to actually put our order in so many tables came after us and received their food before us. We had to wait a long time for dishes that are very quick to prepare.I will not be returning. There are so many other great breakfast spots / diners in Philly to choose from - no reason to come back here.
I thought the food here was quite good, and I love their progressive politics. I didnt think the service was very attentive, but I didnt consider that too significant a problem.
This place is insanely expensive for how disasatisfying the food is. The potatoes were undercooked, the eggs Benedict was over cooked with no hollandaise sauce. The tea was over 4 bucks for a bag of tea and hot water. We spent over 80 bucks for 3 people and none of us were happy with our food.
Very fresh food. Homey atmosphere. A Philly tradition
Stopped for breakfast. Huge portions and great food.
I am not from Philly but come here enough to say the following, The Morning Glory Diner is where the locals eat. I have been here half a dozen times or so and have never once had a meal that was not spectacular. Now the inside is small and they can get busy, but it is well worth the wait. I suggest the stuff pancakes.
The BEST breakfast I have ever had in my life. The waiters were so incredibly kind and friendly. The whole place is just so filled with love and the most delicious food you’ll ever have. They make their own homemade ketchup for God’s sake, what more can I say? They’re the BEST.
The service is first class and the food is plentiful and scrumptious....we love the breakfast which is available all day....they offer homemade ketchup and jam...they have indoor and outside seating...cash only....but atm is inside...
Best diner in town. The vibes are always so good, food is top notch, and the homemade ketchup is next level.
Friendly staff, great food. I usually hate ketchup but their homemade ketchup is next level. From The breakfast burrito to their classics, this place is fire 🔥🔥🔥
Today was off, I dont know what happened today. The pancakes were raw inside and burned on the outside, eggs were over cooked and brown and potatoes were under cooked.Ive been coming here for about a year, almost every Saturday now. Weve had issues with eggs in the past but today everything was dry and over cooked all but the potatoes that were undercooked.
Nice place. It feels like a family restaurant. Food is great
One of the best focaccia bread sandwiches Ive had. The staff is extremely nice. Note: this place is cash only!
Horrible. The French Toast was raw on the inside, very mushy and unpleasant, outside was burned and just not good. My friends potatoes were over seasoned and under cooked.Came here because of Google ratings and it wasnt worth the trip, next Friday well visit Fitzwater Cafe.
Service was amazing, food was great. I had the Cinnamon Crunch French Toast with strawberry sauce and sausage taste homemade, and eggs nice and fluffy. Wait was worth it.
Best breakfast weve had in a long time! The portions were massive and everything was packed with flavor! 100% recommend!
The food was good and the staff friendly. What more could one ask?
Absolutely love this place! Such good food and cute atmosphere. We had Cotton as a server and he was incredibly helpful and nice.
This review is long overdue. Morning Glory has been a favorite of mine for over 20 years. For vegans: the tofu scramble with home fries is excellent. The homemade ketchup is great. There are tons of vegetarian options. The coffee is great. And, the people who work at MG are relaxed and attentive.Absolute 10.
The food is good but unfortunately they are right next to Hawthornes do I might just be spoiled. Their biscuits with berries was tasty and I enjoyed their breakfast burrito but it needed some more seasoning and flavor in my opinion, or maybe just more of the tasty sauce they top it with. The workers are so sweet and the outdoor area is pleasant. Keep in mind that this place does not take cash. We didnt know that going in and the only headache was trying to pay the bill. Their ATM wasnt working so we did the run around trying to get cash. Seems their venmo has been hacked so they currently arent taking any kind of electronic payment.
This place could of been so much more, unfortunately it’s overcrowded, overwhelmed at times and the food was under cooked. 😞
Their lemon poppy pancakes were the first pancakes Ive had out and been happy with the experience. pretty speedy service (right at opening on a weekday morning)
We were going to eat breakfast here, but when we pulled up, they had ANTI-TRUMP signage in the windows. Skip eating at this establishment that is ANTI-AMERICAN. They are hate spreaders.
The nicest breakfast dinner I have ever been too. Food was delicious and employees were super nice and courteous.
Best breakfast in Philly, absolutely incredible. Must try!!!!
I Love there food! The young guy at the hostess stand however needs More customer service Training.. You can not tell patrons 5 minutes they wait patiently for 30 minutes and when they ask how long ink for the 2nd time you blow them off and say “5 minutes maybe I don’t know”
The food was great! Huge portions! Service was very personable also. Would definitely eat here again!
Great service and food. Well worth the wait and BYOB for mimosas. Loved it. Get the chorizo frittata with hot sauce😀
I loved the food it was tasty! The server left a lot to be desired, I had to ask for things multiple times. He came to check on us but didnt bring anything back!?! He forgot the syrup and my potatoes so it made it hard to enjoy my food.He was nice and sweet but his service was 6/10.
Definitely worth every penny. Will be back, many times
Fun was incredible and delicious....most do if in Philly #NUFFSAID
I’ve been coming here for about 15yrs now they’ve always been my favorite breakfast place unfortunately I feel like they been letting me down I got the bacon waffle and it was literally a plain waffle maybe with a sprinkle of bacon bits in it the potatoes had no seasoning and were barely cooked morning glory you let me down
Very çute diner with an outside patioThere are murals, flags, banners and signs. The Morning Glory Diner is socially conscious and the help are very friendly and nice. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The only drawback is the lack of parking. Yet, its worth going back. Leashed dogs are welcome out on the patio.
First time trying Sam’s and we absolutely loved it. The service, atmosphere and of course the food were all outstanding. Large breakfast and lunch menu with generous portions served all day. First come/first serve. No reservations. Cash and Venmo only. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Definitely at the top for me now for a great, relaxing brunch! And please ignore the trash posts. Yes, Morning Glory is not afraid to show their opinion on certain topics of the day just as any other establishment anywhere else can voice theirs. Fact is the food and service are tops and I’ll keep going back for more!
With the prominent gun-free zone sign in the window, I feel so safe eating my gluten free, organic, vegan, fair trade, scrapple tendies. They have free wi-fi, which is great for a broke student like me. I am able to work on my gender studies dissertation without having to worry about any cis-white males accosting me with their patriarchal conservative agenda. The wait staff was happy to use my preferred non-binary gender neutral pronouns of xe/xem/xyrs. Unfortunately, they are not accepting bitcoin as a form of payment so I have to give them 1 star.
As usual, great food, and great politics. The tofu scramble rocks!
The lemon blueberry waffles alone are worth the trip!
Loved the homemade style food and atmosphere.
