Excellent, but small menu. Clean establishment with cute benches outside to sit on. Lady behind the counter knew the menu well enough to suggest we try a sample before ordering the Blueberry Cobbler. The sample was good, but not what we expected.Whole place had a great sense of humor. Would go again.
I went in tonight, for the first time, thinking it was a novelty place so I didnt expect much. What I found was fabulous staff and surprisingly good ice cream. The only downside is its a little pricey but, even so, well worth it. 👏👏👏👏
It seemed they had one person working. Long line because of short staffed. Board and flavors super confusing. We thought we ordered ice creams got ices. Fine. They were prepackaged and were awful... thirty six dollars wasted. I felt bad for the only staff person event after eating money there. I mean how do you buy or mess up ices? I probably would have ordered ice cream if their staff member was not so overwhelmed and if I had understood what was happening upon the time of purchase. I really wanted to like it... My advice stick to the trucks parked around the block.
Delicious ice cream. this is a busy area. it can be very very busy with a slow moving line
My family and I arrived at 10:45pm on 9/5 Sunday night (15 minutes before closing). The 2 girls that were working locked the front door but we knew it was still open so we walked around to the side door, and we asked if they were still open. They said yes, but we close soon so all you can have is plain soft serve, no toppings so we obviously left. Management should know that these two ladies were clearly not working until the very end of their shift and tried to close down early. Extremely unprofessional behavior, my family and I have loved Big Gay for years so this was shocking and really disappointing.
Love the simple ice cream cones here! Awesome 2-5pm weekday $2 mini cones. The swing inside is always fun!
Great place for a sweet treat! Located in a super cute dining area!
It was pretty alright but the name sold it for me no cap
I scream, you scream, we all scream for better service here at Big Gay Ice Cream. While the first advent of this soft serve storefront was heralded with excitement, its FiDi outpost leaves a whole lot to be desired.Upon walking in, theres no sign of organization or proper flow, which shouldnt be too hard given the store is smaller than most studio apartments. The staff is overall apathetic, more interested in chatting with each other or frantically refilling the ice cream machines even though theyve served no soft serve to anyone milling around confusedly. With 3 people behind the counter it would logically make sense to have one or two people churning out the orders with the remaining staff at the register. After waiting at the register for what seemed like 15 minutes, with a line growing longer behind us we were finally able to place our orders and then waited even longer for our soft serve to be served. If we were holding the ice cream this entire time it would have melted all down my arm.At the end of the day, Big Gay Ice Cream serves soft serve that can be found comparably on a Mr Softies truck (or even dare I say at McDonalds)
As a big gay myself, I love it here. I have twin girls who are hard to please...to say the least! They loved every last bite...and thats a feat in itself!!
It’s ok. Just soft serve ice cream. The “sundaes” are still practically the same thing as the regular, just more expensive. Just get a regular cup of ice cream and save the 2-3 bucks. Not a great vibe either, just a ton of people waiting for their ice cream.
Ice cream was good, the price was good but the service was not friendly at all
All hype and no substance. Ice cream tastes bad, ambience is terrible and staff is grumpy.
I sat there waiting patiently for a good 10 min for a dad and his kids to complete their order. During that time another family walks in and another staff member makes eye contact with me knowing I’ve been waiting as she asks to help the incoming family. So I left and went to van Leeuwens.
Ice cream was good. The wait was long. Im not sure if they were short staffed when I went but there was only 1 employee who had to take orders and make the ice cream. Overall was not worth the wait.
Ice cream is delicious but staff is so slow it’s painful. Please hire more people so the experience is more pleasant!
Eh ice cream. Nothing special and no options except vanilla and chocolate. The two people working were sweet and efficient though.
We were disappointed to find only soft serve ice cream with mix-ins available. Decided to go elsewhere.
Delicious real ice cream as once in a time.
Love this place..but wished the hours were later...cant go for ice cream after dinner now that its warmer.
This was on my places to go list in New York .. it didnt disappoint! We got the ferry over to Wall Street pier from Dumbo and waited for opening. Friendly staff who made me a pumpkin sundae. It was delicious ! The face that it was -5 outside did not deter us! The icecream was soft and sweet. The pumpkin butter was insane 😊
Loved the icscream, but it wasnt dulce leche like it said on the menu. I enjoyed it .
Ice cream is horrible, like a frozen soap foam... nice hanging bench inside tho, enjoyed swinging on it.
Reasonable ice cream. Nothing special.
Delicious options and wonderful staff
The best icecream in NYC
The staff was very welcoming and observant. The prices are fair for the quality of food. I can see why they have so many reviews.
Entered near nine, it wasnt busy. Really nothing but great experiences here, so I will be back. The place has a good atmosphere. This place has many reviews for a reason.
Delicious ice cream and great service.
I love this place always quality food & service. Looking forward to returning with my relatives. Prices that are reasonable.
Sooo good
Great ice cream
I love this place and my kids too. Thanks my friend who suggested me here. Lovely staffs and delicious variety of soft creams.
Pricey but great ice cream. I’ll pay all day for this. It’s just super delicious. And the customization process is awesome. If your looking for good ice cream and a little spot to sit and take a break enjoy a lil desert I recommend.
This is my favorite place. This is my favorite ice cream! They have a couple stores now. This is a newer one. If your a visitor for the sake of experience go to the one on houston. The others are equally delicious and comparatively less crowded. So if you have kids. This one and all the others are great because v theres seating available. This particular one has an indoor porch swing. Great service. Yummy ice cream. Theyre only in the city.
Always a favorite!
Yummy ice cream and nice vibes. We enjoyed sitting on the colorful bench and eating ice cream.😁
Only soft serve and nothing truly fabulous or remarkable about it. Definitely overpriced. Mr. Softee hangs around here usually, save a buck and go to them if you want your standard fare soft serve ice cream. For specialty scoops theres much better locations. Also as other posters have mentioned they HIDE their C RATING form the Department of Sanitation. Im grossed out now that I know..
Best ice cream ever. Love this place soo much. I wish I could order and have it shipped. Who do i gotta take care of for some ice cream? ;p
Just a soft-serve ice cream. No big deal. Also, dont bother with peanut butter. They only put a smear in a cone. Cant get it on your ice cream at all.
Love the Dorothy
I don’t understand why people like this chain. Its just a couple basic soft serve ice creams with names that make them sound like more than they are. No real variety in flavors at all. On top of that, it’s slightly overpriced for what it is. When I went in the ice cream was melting when they put it on the cone so they had to dump the cone into a bowl. Just super subpar all around - don’t waste your time.
Great place for ice-cream they added some sort of special sauce to my ice cream was a bit white and clumpywould go again my kids love it.
It was busy but the girls did s great job. ice cream was delicious
Expect long lines and ok service. Place is not that big. $5 minimum on debut/credit cards. Unique ice cream, flavors are ok. Best one is blueberry. Avoid Nutella as its texture is like cold peanut butter spread. Btw...right side of counter is their pastries with great prices. Too bad it was hidden as I would have bought tons!
I’m a regular customer no more. They got really cheap with servings. I was just at the store, paid close to $7 and received a cone of chocolate ice cream, VERY SMALL serving with powdered cookies and cream that used to be a big chunks of cookies. I’m a personal trainer and I’m all about keeping to small/moderate servings, but this was absolutely ridiculous.
Good ice cream, but dwindles in comparison to other ice cream shops in New York. Limited variety of flavours/sizes.
My daughter loves this place.
Unfriendly, boring and unattended employees. The Icecream was good. We would not come back and never recommend the store.
Delicious ice cream, not too expensive, kind staff. It was a fun place!
Absolutely the worst ice cream Ive ever sampled. Tried the cheesecake may as well sell Pepto or use it as a topping. GROSS !
Ice cream was amazing. Cool little spot to cool down this summer.
Its soft serve and barely de rigeur soft serve with fancy little names for sloppily prepared treats. The staff appears as though they were conscripted into the Red Army. The place is all about location location location as it is in South Street Seaport. Save your money and go to Baskin and Robins.
Nice little spot for some delicious sqeets 😊🍦🍨
My kids love this place! Its always cheerful and inviting, the soft serve is delicious, too!
This location has a C sanitation rating and they are trying to hide it!!! For non New Yorkers, C is the literal lowest sanitation rating possible before the department of health will shut down the restaurant. The worst part is that they are trying to cheat and are hiding the sanitation from plain view! This is completely unacceptable behavior and I plan on never consuming anything from this disgusting location.
Ice cream was good but they told my sister to use her hand when they ran out of toilet paper. Kind of explains the C health rating in the window.
If I wanted soft serve ice cream Id go to a mr. softee truck. Walk the extra 30 seconds down the street to Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, their pistachio is life changing.
Delicious Ice Cream
Were closing up almost an hour earlier then we got there. Were extremely rude and said we could only order the premade ice cream sandwiches. The ice cream was decent, but the service was miserable.
Poor customer service, popsicle was freezer damanged and not good, small serving sizes, and overpriced.
Awesome
Good ice cream. Cute decor
I was expecting a shop that specialises in ice cream to have nicer ice cream than what you can buy from a 7/11. I was wrong.
I’m a big milk shake guy and I really enjoyed mine. To the blonde girl who made it, thank you.
Not a bad place for ice cream
Delicious ice cream and sundae combos.
Fabulous service great ice cream
Its got a C rating...didnt know that until after I ordered. The C grade was posted in a hidden spot.
Nice ice cream at a nice location.
Staff is awesome and ice cream is to die for!
Favorite ice cream shop in NYC!
Really tasty icecream
Fun place for ice cream
Employees are unfriendly. Took our order and didn’t get back to us for a few minutes. Waited for us to ask and told us sold out.Horrible service!
Rocky road cone is my fav legit huge helpings!
The service was miserable. They hiding the Grade C
Too expensive...why? No need.
Very hot inside
Hard to find a more apathetic staff.Based on the people behind the counter you would’ve thought I walked into a crematorium. Not helpful just stood around.Won’t be back.
Nice persons, Nice creams.
