We got this as a post dinner desserts, and I go the works with earl grey and cookies n cream. It was honestly probably the BEST cookies n cream that I’ve ever had. Also, the portion of The Works is absolutely HUGE, and easily sharable between 2 or 3 people. The honeycomb candy is honestly quite similar in taste to toffee but a lot sweeter. The storefront itself is cute too!
The ice-cream is so good! I love the oreo, pb and brownie, and pistachio flavors. I’ve been with my vegan friend 3 times and she loves their vegan options. Last time we went, the staff did bend down to pet a dog which I thought was a little unsanitary but hey, as long as they washed their hands after. My new fave ice-cream spot!
V ariety of unique flavorsA bundance of ice cream? YesN ot gonna lie they aint cheapL ife is too short for bad ice cream thoughE arl grey tea flavor is the winnerE verything they make is good, mind you, butU niquely delectable flavor is hard to findW holeheartedly agree they make the great ice creamE ast Village, NoLita, West Village, Upper EastN o shortage of Van Leeuwen in NYC!@thedogtrine
My first time at this place and the ice cream was really good. PLEASE get the cone- it’s sweet like cinnamon. The atmosphere of the place was quite chill- but as one of the other reviewers mentioned- the staff weren’t quite friendly. They were NOT straight up rude either- the experience was just quite meh.
Good quality ice cream 🍦Got the pistachio flavored and it ended up tasting more like coffer with a hint of vanilla. Still good though. The nice touch was the frozen honey comb topping, 😋 Delicious.
I have absolutely come to appreciate and love their French ice cream! Fortunately, I will be able to start eating it at one of their brick and mortar stores soon here in Texas! Keep up the great work, hope to see you in Austin soon.
When I was researching vegan places in NYC, I immediately knew I need to hit up Van Leeuwen after reading reviews about the vegan ice cream. It didnt disappoint, I went for most unique flavor, Planet Earth. An amazing mix of fruity, creamy, and cake-y, it was so delicious that two scoops was almost not enough even with it being 40 degrees outside. Definitely need to try more flavors in the future.
Vegan ice cream was super good! Staff was absolutely horrid. So rude.
I found out about this place through friends who were craving ice cream after we had hot pot down town. This place serves vegan ice cream which was extremely odd to me, didnt even know that existed. I had some sort hibiscus ice cream (2 scoops), it was absolutely delicious, it was smooth, creamy and downright refreshing. I recommend this place to anyone in the neighborhood for some delicious ice cream.
I scream. You scream. We all scream. Whole lotta screaming.
The honey cone was supppper sweet bit delicious and the matacha was bitter sweetDecent overall
Awesome spot for some ice cream crafted with exceptional attention to taste. Card Only, No Cash. Has a large section of traditional and Vegan ice cream options. I had a Vegan cookie dough caramel scoop in a cone and a Vegan Dark Matter milkshake with vegan whipped cream on top. Additionally to cones, cups, and shakes they serve coffee and have pint take away containers available for purchase to bring the ice cream home.
I don’t normally leave bad reviews, but my milkshake was really disappointing. Super liquidy/milky. There was hardly any ice cream in there.
I came here originally for coffee milkshake, they dont have the coffee flavor so I got another flavor I dont remember, besides the flavor, the texture of the shake is a bit disappointing. I believe the manager is training the new guy, dont really like the attitude he is imposing on the new guy 😢
This place is not good. I could get over the overpriced ice cream- if the service was decent. However, they have some stuck up kids working there and they are rude to you when placing your order. The people helping use appeared visibly upset because we wanted to add 2 toppings to our ice cream. Seriously, just trying to spend more money at your place and that makes you upset? Finally, the ice cream flavors are not that strong, kinda weak & bland.2 scoop cone w/ toppings = $13+
Ice cream was good, but paying $6 for one scoop of ice cream that isnt even packed into the cone is absurd. Literally just a ball of ice cream sitting on top of the cone. Pathetic
Loved having vegan options. Getting it there with toppings and enough to take home was great. Recommend.
We ordered 7 ice cream cones, they were all stale. We ordered several different flavors. An awful end to a great day!
It was my first time going to Van Leeuwen but I’ve tried their honeycomb flavor in the pints they sell at the supermarket before. This location was so cute and not many people on a Tuesday at 5:30pm. I decided to get an affogato with a scoop of honeycomb and it was delicious . The perfect bitterness of the espresso and the sweetness of the “dulce de leche” flavor was amazing. The girl on staff wasn’t very friendly though and seemed annoyed upon asking to try flavors. She didn’t smile and was not welcoming. If it wasn’t for this customer service experience, definitely 5 stars!
This ice cream is so gas. Worth the price and more. Flavors are great, and texture is rich smooth creamy and heavenly.
Really good options, interesting flavors. But charging more for an iced drink, when you get less of the drink when it is iced…unnecessary.
They offer a very limited ice cream varieties. Vanilla flavor is bland. Choclate was bitter. Try other ice cream shops..
Flavors are great, and texture is rich smooth creamy and heavenly.
Van Leeuwens ice cream made the perfect post-dinner dessert. Some of the creamiest, more flavorful ice cream Ive ever had and they offer some very cool mix-ins and flavors. Id highly recommend the mini-chocolate lovers sundae.
I used to love this place but the new changes made me look for other ice cream alternatives. Since they started expanding so quickly they have been trying to push you to buy the pints. In order to do that they no longer serve the salted caramel ice cream pr other favorites by the scoop. If you want that you’ll have to buy the pint. The pint is sold at $10 here + tip. But if you wanted that you’d be better off going to Key Food a couple pf blocks away for $6.99 or even Whole Foods $7.99. Really annoying strategy; probably more profitable after they did some AB testing, but annoying for existing customers. Definitely made me look for other alternatives such as St Ambroeus, Morgenstern, Mo, etc. I’m still trying to find one as good as Van Leuwen used to be but I’m positive I will.
Ordered one scoop of pistachio and one of Earl Grey; got two of Earl Grey, which was very good.
Ive been a fan of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream for 3 years and they continue to satisfy my sweet cravings.
Had salted caramel and pistachio in a sugar cone and it was undoubtedly delicious! I especially liked the salted caramel one, the pistachio one tasted more like sugar than pistachio. But the texture of the ice cream was so creamy and soft that I still liked it. A double flavor at $7-8 was so expensive though
Serious question: why does your pistachio taste like coffee. Or was my order wrong?
Lot of good vegan flavors. Also have Sundaes
My first time trying Van Leeuwen Icecream! Can I say Amazing?!!! I ordered Brooklyn Brown Sugar a Cookies cream, oh man I am ready to return back to get more. Yes, their prices are expensive but it was worth it. I dont mind paying extra money for good icecream. This icecream is art with a unique flavor. I highly recommend Van Leeuwen ice cream!
I remember getting ice cream from the truck that was parked by the High Line years ago. Glad to see that Van Leeuwen has continued to flourish! Though pricier than the average ice cream, the ice cream here is anything but average. Made locally, the flavors are unique and the space here is great to hang with friends or if solo, cozy up on a stool facing out to the street.
Creamy ice cream but Im kind of a soft serve guy.
A little pricy but great selection of vegan ice creams! I got the mint chocolate chip and it was great. A little goes a long way, I say go for 1 scoop as 2 was too much haha.
Great ice cream. Fresh waffle cones.
Earl grey was phenomenal, some of the best ice cream ive ever had
This place is amazing!! I live right nearby and I love it. So does my dog Rufus who always wants to run over there—he’s become a bit of a celebrity. The workers are super nice as well—to both Rufus and me. People complain that the ice cream is overpriced but they are always extremely generous with the servings!!How about some dog ice cream though? Just a thought!
A variety of flavors to choose from with an affordable price tag. The two scoops of ice cream ( pistachio and mocha ) is rich in flavor and is very enjoyable. Id wish I had time to savor it instead of eating it quickly in the rain : (
I cant say enough about this ice cream. Quality small shop with vegan options. My personal favorite is vegan cookie dough. They offer samples and the staff is very friendly and cheerful. I often pick up a pint and enjoy it all week. One drawback, if you consider it a drawback, they only accept card. No cash accepted. Stop by and try for yourself.
Got there about two, it was not packed. The staff was very friendly and kind. The prices are fair for the quality of food. They have so many great reviews for a reason.
The best ice-cream in NYC!
Good ice cream, not so great service. Rude blonde girl. I understand businesses are operating differently now during the pandemic, but how you deliver your rules is everything. She was super rude when we asked if they have cones, and if we can eat the ice cream inside. We had to eat our ice cream outside even though it was pouring. After finishing our ice cream we figured we would stay to inside to wait until our UBER arrived and got yelled at. “ SIR YOU CAN’T STAY IN HERE WE DONT HAVE THE LICENSE NY REQUIRES TO HAVE PEOPLE STAY INSIDE.”We weren’t the only people who were yelled at. Take your business elsewhere if you can. And to the owners, pay the money for whatever license you need and hire friendlier employees.
What I find the best is the dark/white chocolate topping. This was best ice cream ever. You should definitely try it. Very nice waiter. Good position in city.
Van Leeuwen has a great selection of ice cream to choose from. Especially for vegan. Their coffee are good too but definitely the ice cream outshine it. the staff that serve me was friendly but not well-trained. She made a mistake on my order twice. But overall, the ice cream was soooo good and nothing else matter ❤️
Usually I love Van Leeuwen, but this store in particular was not great. The ice cream still tasted good, but the staff. my god. I saw a lot of reviews that say their friendly, so maybe they usually are, but they def were not the nicest to me. It kind of just dampened the whole experience. Still good ice cream tho
We tried pistachio, vanilla, cheese cake ice creams. All were very nice that it was difficult to choose the best amongst them. The ice cream is very delicious and creamy. Plenty of choice.
The vegan icecream tastes just like the real thing
Ice cream here is relatively good. We have tried several flavors, they tend to be good but very sweet. Pricing is also up as location is in NYC. Good overall.
The vegan ice-cream here brings light to your day like nothing else.
The pumpkin cheesecake ice cream is a must-try. Definitely my new favorite flavor. It’s seasonal so get it while you can.
There are plenty of flavours to choose from. Prices are the best and moreover you get an extra cookie and chocolate topping (white or black) in the same price.
Ice cream here is relatively good. We have tried several flavors, they tend to be good but very sweet. Pricing is also up as location is in NYC. Good overall.
Is ice cream what can I say you cant go wrong Ive never gotten bad ice cream and the staff is pleasant and is quick and convenient Price is Right
Their earl grey ice cream is so good! The texture is nice and creamy, its not overly sweet and with 1 scoop you feel satisfied. Everyone I see whos gotten ice cream from here has been happy. The one downside can be the price - one scoop is just $5.50 but if you share it with another person (which can be the perfect amount after a meal) its worth it!
Great ice cream, always here to get the pistachio scoop when in the area
So different than ordinary icecream. After this i only want selfmade icecream. Large selection, varied and interesting flavors, one word delicious.....friendly and kind staff :)
Best ice cream in town, great service, lot of flavours for everyone something, and the price is cheap for what you get!
Loved having vegan options.
