Great food, rooted in deep local history and a great cup of coffee. Been going there from 1971.
Very nice steak. Good service. Will go again.
I really wanted to like this place, but my food was not good. I ordered the corned beef hash and it had too much rosemary in it. The potatoes were burnt and nothing had salt. The only thing that was good was the toast, I guess? For breakfast, the price was not reasonable- even considering we’re in Tribeca. At least the service was great!
Authentic diner in the middle of the big apple. A great place to have breakfast, the coffee is good and the menu offers everything you can expect from an old style diner, plenty of options. The waiters are neighborly and don’t leave you waiting, very good at their jobs.Overall the place is cozy and quiet, you can read the news while you sip a cup of coffee(that they always make sure it’s never empty).
Finally reopened! With the added bonus of a new menu design and they finally take credit cards. One of my favorite places to go with my wife in the morning.
Stepped in here to have a coffee and a cheese and ham omelette at the counter. The guy in charge was friendly, but - again somehow authentically - brusque as well. Coffee was great, ambiance incredible. I wish they had these places everywhere. The omelette was OK, perhaps slightly pricey. The one thing is did HATE is that you can’t pay by card. I get the whole authentic thing, heck it’s why I came there in the first place, but only accepting cash payments is utterly annoying and stubborn.
Good breakfast. Very good service. Very clean.
Nice service, clean place.
Great coffee, great service, very quaint!
The nostalgia at the Square Diner is worth the visit and we are reminded by the staff t-shirts that it has been around over 100 years. The cosy space is decorated with advertisements for products from a forgotten era which add to the allure. Unfortunately, the food has not kept up with the times... The syrup is 100% high fructose corn syrup, margarine passed off as butter. This is to be expected in most diners, but not those with $18 plates. Another upgrade that is desperately needed in 2019... a credit card terminal.
Good food and drink
It was so tasty. Had a friend come into town and she asked me to take her here again. Prices were decent. Menu is like a cafe in Boston I loved.
Good Morning breakfast
Love this place so much, cant wait for them to reopen (please survive this economic down turn.) Every meal too drink has always been great and great staff to match. Atmosphere is always pleasant and definitely worth take out as well.
Only diner open at 9am today. Fantastic service!
Very expensive for a diner and service was okay.
Cozy place. Delicious food. STOPPED BY ON A WALK WHEN WE WERE IN Lower Manhattan.
Very good food at a good price. Coffee was fine. Fast service
Iconic and delicious
Felt like stepping into one of my favourite “American Road Trip” movies. A classic diner with seating in booths or at the bar like counter. My two visits didn’t disappoint, the food is tasty and served in ample portions. Staff are really friendly polite and happy to chat and the atmosphere has a good buzz with local radio playing subtly in the background. If you visit New York this is a great diner which shouldn’t be missed.
Good food but the prices are outrageous. 20 dollars for a tuna melt?
I had a pulled pork sandwich that was excellent. Street side dining on a beautiful autumn afternoon.
A staple of Tribeca, great burgers and just as good breakfast.
Very good food at a good price. Coffee was fine. Fast service
Its decent. Nothing amazing but a nice decor and easy going vibe. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Food is standard NY diner stuff.
Well if you come here for that authentic dinner experience you wont be disappointed. Great selection of breakfast choices and a friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.
I always come to this place when Im in Tribeca
Amazing place. 100 year old iconic joint. a must go! Pricey, but worth it. High quality food
In an old subway truck, this place is brilliant. We shared a breakfast which was plenty and the service was incredible. The waiter made sure we felt comfortable and made us laugh the whole time! Would highly recommend.
Good old school diner. Authentic is every way possible. Great food delivered rapidly and affordable.
One of my favorite spots in the City. The corned beef has is scratch-made and excellent. I recommend it with the egg over easy as it is drier than your typical hash. There are very few better ways to spend a morning than sitting in a quiet booth by the windows, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of lower Manhattan.
First time at this place, and I love its authenticity. I had the turkey meatloaf special... It was okay. Could have used seasoning all around. Corn and potatoes were bland, and the meatloaf was dry. The server was very nice, and he was hustling too. Ill give it another shot and maybe try something more mainstream like their burger or club sandwich.
A little service-deficient when busy, unless the girl with the pink hair is there. Shes wicked awesome. Good food, good price! Cute place. Definitely recommend for the Tribeca area!
Lovely little diner with a good range of food and drink options. Friendly service. Would recommend.
Amazing people and delicious food. We were met with circumstances out of our control that led us to not be able to pay for a full family meal. Not only did a patron assist us financially but the diner owner made sure we left with enough food to feed my children for the next two days. Love lives here. Thank you for your kindness!Casey
I love this spot. I eat breakfast here 1-2x week and it’s the right kinda joint for a nice meal. Pancakes, eggs, sausage and coffee—Winner! Fernando at the counter is 10/10 in service and charm. Outdoor seating also a bonus.
Stopped by for lunch. The Cuban was not what I expected. However the pulled pork sandwich is one of the best weve had. The bread on both sandwiches was out of this world fresh and delicious. The waiter was also very nice. Id definitely for back. They have very nice and plentiful outdoor seating on Tribeca Square and it is shady. 😎
Great diner. Fair prices, relaxed atmosphere, and I love the chicken sandwich. The staff is friendly and on top of it. One night I went by as they were closing and they offered to seat me and feed me. I didnt want to impose so I declined and they were closing in 20 minutes but they seemed genuine in their offer. Great spot in TriBeCa are for a casual bite.
Relax yourself girl, please settle down! The diner where A Tribe Called Quest filmed their music video for “Electric Relaxation” in 1993. Wish I had been to it when I visited New York last week. I will definitely make a note to go the next time I’m there.
Strolling around NYC. Stopped at Square Diner for lunch. What an wonderful experience. Food is not cheap but excellent, staff is friendly. I will go back!!!!!!!!
Pastrami was a little saltier then it should have been. But over all not too bad. Wife said the gyro was decent. Service was good!
Quaint little diner. Parents with their kids adds to the 50s hometown atmosphere. I had a good cheeseburger this time, and a prior visit a nice French Toast breakfast. Plan to return for another meal soon.
Great staff, great food. I used to eat here in the 90s and I love that an old school NY diner still exists in TriBeCa.
Was very nice. Feels like youre inside of a boat. Loved it
Quaint diner that is an old train car . This place is everything you think of when you hear diner my daughter and I visited NY and had breakfast and it was delicious! One of the best eggs Benedict! Fairly priced I suppose compared to every other place we are at in NY
Cute place. Quintessential diner, serves breakfast all day. Nice staff. Only reason they dont get all 5 stars is because they dont take credit cards, but its worth the extra trouble for this place, which is as cozy on the inside as it looks on the outside.
Nice diner in new york. Friendly stuff.
Great place with very friendly staff. Ordered the omelette and was pleasantly surprised when it came with fries and two pieces of toast. Top value for money
Nice location and friendly staff, but eggs were a little dry and potatoes and toast were burned. Prices are higher than on the menu shown here on Google Maps. Window tables can become cramped as the construction below the tabletop makes it hard to find room if you have longer legs.
Great look and vibe, but food is meh. Disappointing experience after a great first impression.
Good, cheap and very pleasant staff. Very well located.
My favorite diner in the city. Food is fantastic, great location, waiters are total bros. Best of all, a scene from Netflix Daredevil was shot here!
Authentic (as far as I believe) old style diner ...great friendly service. I had breakfast. .2 eggs with their home made corn beef hash. Quick on coffee refills. All Id hoped for in a New York diner experience. Recommended
Really worth a visit if you’re staying Downtown. Delicious menu with good selection and lots of personality from the staff for an authentic experience.
Very old school small diner that is hard to come by especially in a city like New York I had the lunch special which was soup and choice of sandwich. The clam chowder soup was phenomenally good. And the chicken parmesan sandwich was much larger than I expected for the special and the price definitely on my favorite save list when Im down in this area
Really very boring food. I had the cheeseburger and fries and dont remember the taste. Atmosphere is nice, so its not a completely worthless experience, but I would recommend somewhere else for sure.
A decent diner squeezed in to the corner. They got all of your basics, except for grilled cheese. Why dont they have grilled cheese? Regardless I go there for soups on cold winter afternoons and get a side of mash potatoes or something. The Decor inside maintains old school diner legacy which I suppose means slightly stiff foamed bench seating with limited leg room but thats all fine, its New York!
Good service, excellent food. This is a vintage diner experience. Only complaint is that they dont take cards but they have an ATM. They should be able to take cards since they use computers to put in the orders.
Good food, great staff. Only 4 stars because its cash only. Otherwise a great place for a quick, large meal that also tastes good.
Its a diner..and its fantastic!
A great diner experience right in TriBeCa. They always have the best breakfast food and sitting inside the old-school diner cart makes is something not to miss! Come here the morning after a night on the town and you will not be disappointed.
Called in for lunch . Very busy but managed to get a table . Both our meals were excellent . Will return when back in the area.
Lovely bit of Old Tribeca...before the money peopleruined everything. This is like eating in someones home, with a warmth and old fashioned simplicity that is not easy to find in Lower Manhattan anymore. Basic buttermilk pancakes with real butter, cooked on a griddle and coming to the table steaming hot, dripping in butter, fluffy and full of that homemade flavor (I think they stole moms recipe! ;-)
I live in this area and always have nice hearty meals here. Wonderful retro atmosphere
Visited today for lunch. The place was more quiet than I expected on a sunny day. Besides some people outside and 1 table inside, we were the only ones. Missed chance Id say!Charming place with a cool train-style interior and friendly staff.I was in doubt about what to choose and the guy told me to try the Cuban sandwich. Definitely a good option!Fun fact: the place is actually a triangle instead of a square :)
This place is a classic train car style diner. Its one of less than a dozen like it in all of lower Manhattan. Not sure if its Greek owned but they do have at least one Greek dish on the menu. I very much recommend
The best diner in New York, beautiful place, breakfast is delicious, waitress very nice. However, the price for a breakfast was too much expensive (65$ for 2 people, 2 scrambled eggs and only 1wafle)
Was delicious. I had a guacamole burger. It was so good I forgot to take a picture of it.
Good food. Friendly staff. Unassuming location for a diner but adds a old school look to a under construction area.
