I celebrated my dear friends birthday yesterday & I couldnt have picked a better spot to meet my bakery needs! Im a huge fan of buttercup bakeshop from their cupcakes to their cookies, this company has always had an imprint in my heart. A couple days prior to the birthday, I sent in an image with the design I wanted and these guys did not disappoint! Even though theyre often really busy, because of course everyone wants of piece of them!, they are ALWAYS paying attention to detail when it comes to their clients & their needs. I am really happy with my purchase. Thank you so much!!!!!P.s If you want some top recommendations from my opinion look into the brownies (break it up) & combine it with the banana pudding, grab a Campfire bar if you want to lift up your mood, the THALY cupcakes are to die for with all its chocolatey raspberry goodness!!! & lastly dont you dare walk out without trying the cookies, you wont regret it!!!!

Came to pick up some gluten free cupcakes and they were so wonderful. Customer service was amazing because they explicitly told me they would change their gloves so nothing that had gluten would touch the gluten free stuff. Thank you for the wonderful service.

In the morning, you will get still-warm creme sticks and various other freshly baked bread. I was too amazed by each taste. It was all so yummy and buttery. I highly recommend this place.

Its probably not a good thing but this has become a weekly staple for me. The quality here is fantastic and very consistent. They have some gluten free options too which is amazing. I walked in and had a cake decorated within 4 minutes for my grandmas birthday. Really glad to have them so close to me...friendly staff and delicious baked goods!

Had the best cheesecake Ive ever had, hands down! Was so light and refreshing, i couldnt get enough! The Devil Dog chocolate cupcakes are also so delicious and not overwhelming...I would recommend this place to any person visiting New York or is in need of a sweet treat late at night.

Yummm! Loved their red velvet cheesecake cupcake and their strawberry cake slice. The latter was massive, had it been shaped differently it could have passed off for a small whole cake. All of it was packed perfectly - no spills/smudges on anything.

WoW!!!A place of business for sure due to the constant pods of people anxiously awaiting their turn to order, pay, and enjoy their desired delight. So many wonderful delights to choose from; the product in demand to the various tunes playing to cordial conversation. I allowed my curiosity to get the best of me and tasted the “Sweet corn” flavored ice cream, and I must shout “IT WAS THE BEST EVER!” Thank you “Buttercup Bakeshop” for being consistent with your remarkable business.

Rude staff. Went into store to buy something was told they were not open yet (funny because I was standing in there store) was forced to stand outside for 20 min until they flipped the closed sign around. Then was harassed about wearing a mask even though I am fully vaccinated and presented my vaccination card to them, I was told I would have to stand out in the street until somebody came outside to take my order. Business lost sight of how a paying customer should be treated. Been buying cakes and desserts from them almost 20 years but it looks like I will be shopping around for a new bakery.

This location is too cute. Nice bakery that offers grabbing last minute gifts for your coworkers easier. And they provide single candles for purchased baked goods. Never too crowded and offers good coffee. Customer service is always great.

Terrible terrible banana pudding- just skip that altogether. But their Hummingbird cupcake is incredible!!

I love this bakery. I ordered a n ube cake for my daughters 10th birthday. Now normally when I go to the bakery to get a slice of cake they give you a Healthy looking 3 layer slice but when I received my cake yesterday it was a 3 layer but half that size...the cake was tilted it looked like something I just made at home. We order cakes from bakeries because we want our cakes to look beautiful not homemade which was quite embarrassing since I had a party for her and my guess could not believe I didnt make the cake. I will still continue to go buy cupcake and slices of cakes but I will never order w whole cake. So thanks for ruining that part of my daughters birthday.

First off — workers are so kind! They make you want to buy things because they’re so helpful and speedy. I love it, makes you feel right at home lol. I’ve never been to the other locations but I really like this one. Anyway, Really yummy cupcakes. I had the chocolate with vanilla buttercream and the ube cupcake. Both were exceptional. I was scared to try ube cupcake because I’ve never had this flavour before but it was yummy. I also had their ice cream which was so good. Next time, I would like to try out other cupcake flavours since everything seems good. I have no qualms or negatives about this place.

I wish I’ve taken better picture, this was what I showed to my sisters.The vanilla cheesecake was so good, a little small though, for $7. And I really like it without the frosting.The red velvet cake was also good, and such a hugeeeee slice for $6. So worth it and such a contrast. And the frosting is a bit too little for my liking.But between the two, I think the cheesecake was better. And I removed the frosting from the cheesecake, which I didn’t like on the cheesecake anyway, and had it with the red velvet cake. Really like desserts lately, but because the red velvet cake was huge, I couldn’t finish it after 2 days. Normally I could have a cake a day, if I want to :p

Buttercup is absolutely amazing. I moved out of NYC to Florida two years ago, and I constantly check google to make sure Buttercup has not closed due to covid (I would be devastated if they did). As soon as it is safe to travel again, this will be my first stop when I visit Manhattan. This place is amazing!!! Miss you buttercup!

Buttercup has really unique flavors that you can’t find elsewhere. Highly recommend getting the ube and buko pandan cupcakes! Both are delicious and not too sweet. I stop by every time I’m in the neighborhood to grab a few.

Ordered from Buttercup via Ubereats for the first time today. The order came quickly, neatly and nicely packed. All items were delicious! Highly recommend the chocolate cake and carrot cake.Also, the staff felt the chocolate cake slice was small, so sent a chocolate cupcake complentarily, along with a cutely written hand-written note, explaining that the chocolate cake slice seemed small!! Lol! I appreciated the extra effort! Good service, good quality fresh & tasty desert, considerate staff. Highly recommend!

Friendly staff. Gave us samples. The pastries are all amazing! The cake! I didnt even take a picture because it was gone. The cake is so moist! I had the maple cake. I would go all the way back just for that. Yes, a slice is $6. But that slice wil last you 3 days because its huge! Everyone I was with was pleased with their pastry.

Had a idea for my grand daughters 4 the birthday cake took the idea here and the design team helped me along the way and I must say I loved the cake and after two days of the last piece sitting in the fridge it was still moist and delicious.i will be back soon

I stopped in after a few years away (not often down 2nd Ave these days) and got the BEST piece of Strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting. Even better was the understanding service from Farrah, who didnt bat an eyelash when I asked for a slice from the side with the most frosting. Yes, Im one of those people :) She was the best and communicated an understanding of the needs of cake fanatics. I neednt have been concerned as when I got home it was a HUGE slice relative to Magnolia Bakery and the service was just nicer. I called to apologize for having to jump on my phone while checking out...and to get Farrahs name because thats the least I can do for GREAT hospitality and service in the face of we frazzled 2020 survivors. Cake helps !!

I have purchased many red velvet cakes from buttercup and never had anything but great things to say about them. I placed an order for a carrot cake for my mom’s 60th birthday with no issues. Fast forward to the day of my mom’s birthday when it’s time to cut the cake. As I was slicing the cake, I came across a large piece of unbaked flour embedded in the cake. It was coated but when I broke into it, it was indeed flour. Was definitely surprised and disappointed. I instantly emailed the store and a gentleman reached out for pictures so that he could pass it on to the director of operations (which I promptly sent back). I never heard back from anyone so unfortunately I don’t think I will be shopping here for cakes anymore. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of one is because of the gentleman that replied to my email.

Great coffee! The gooey chocolate chip brownie thing was top notch. The staff was pleasant and helpful with our decision making. Would absolutely visit again soon nice place to sit and relax with your coffee and dessert.

Talk about delicious. Cupcakes were just the right consistency and the flavor was on point. Dulce de leche is missing from picture because I couldn’t wait to eat it. Staff was also kind and friendly.

The super sweet, pastel frostings with white or colored sprinkles look and taste like those at Magnolia, made famous for its appearance in an episode of Sex and the City. Skip Magnolias tourist-flooded line and head over to Buttercup for a sugar dose without the wait.

Buttercup Bake Shop is probably my favorite cake shop in New York. They are great for pre-ordered special occasions as well as drop in cake-by-the-slice. Their cakes do tend to be sweet, but their vanilla buttercream is reminiscent of childhood holiday cookie frosting and has been a hit with everyone I’ve shared it with. This location has a lot of interesting flavors to try including PB&J and Ube. Cake slices are on par for Manhattan $5+, but they are massive and can be shared or split in to multiple meals.

Had a cake made for my sons first birthday cake smash and it came out so super cute! Friendly and professional customer service. Cake was made on time and it was beyond delicious!!!

Small location but staff has a big heart! fairly busy during my visit but the staff made me and every other guest feel ike they were the only patron.As this is a chain, cake sizes are uniform and prices are high, as with everything in Midtown.I purchased a Buttercup Golden cake and cake to frosting ratio was perfect.

I wanted to send multiple delivery of cupcakes as a part of virtual birthday party. I am very happy how they delivered everything on time and all the kids really enjoyed the treat. A BIG THANK YOU to the team fo making birthday so special during these uncertain times.

I placed a catering order for a holiday party via the online ordering system. I was really excited for myself and the organization members to try the desserts as I received good recommendations from others on the quality of their desserts.However, when my order was delivered it was incomplete and I was missing two dozen desserts. This caused members, guests and myself to not receive any desserts at the end of the evening due to the catering order not being complete. I took pictures of what was received and immediately called the bakeshop. They informed me to email operations and they would look into this issue. I waited two days and I did not hear a response. I followed up and they said they would get back to me within a week due to the holidays. I still have not heard from the bakeshop and feel like my order has been overlooked and forgotten.I don’t recommend placing large catering orders with them. They charge you if you request a specific time or one hour window outside of their three hour time window. Catering is supposed to be for a specific time not just for whenever they get around to you or your event on that day. Extremely dissatisfied with their customer service and operations as I have consistently made contact with them about my order but I have not heard anything from them to amend my incomplete delivery order.

This is the place to go when you are graving something sweet or just in general love sweets. They have so many different types of desserts, especially different kinds of puddings. There banana pudding is delicious and i would highly recommend trying it.

Always enjoy their offerings. Cake slices have incredible sponge and the icing distribution is so generous. Cant go wrong here.

I am super surprised by the reviews on this place. My friends and I are from Memphis, so perhaps our tastes are just different. That being said, we got the lemon bar, salted caramel cupcake, vanilla bean cheesecake, chocolate chip cookie, and campfire bar. The campfire bar was great, the cookies were okay, but the rest was kind of awful....to us, anyhow. But, everyone else seems to like it, so maybe its just us.

Nice small bakery, I like how there is also ice cream, and surprisingly their sweet corn ice cream was superb very unique and tasty. Pastry’s are pretty delicious too and they make cakes on site. It’s really good.

The cake slices are SO good. They are huge and delicious, and a cut above their other baked goods. I love the red velvet in particular!

I custom ordered a Mother’s Day cake and when I went in for pick up I picked up 6 cupcakes and another small cake everything was stale, we had to throw everything away. I traveled an hour for this bakery where their cakes are usually good but never again. I was so embarrassed with my guests. Stay away.

Amazing. Kareem sent me a bundt cake to die for from NY to Florida. It looked beautiful. But the taste was far better than the looks. Best cake I’ve ever had. AMAZING!!! Thanks Kareem. You rock. I’ll be ordering more soon.

This place does a lot of custom cakes and cupcakes. The dessert options range from tarts, cakes all the way to pies and even mousses. I have really enjoyed each dessert I’ve gotten here. I believe they have a gluten free option as well, but my heavy weight hasn’t tried it yet! 5 out of 5

The best cake in the city, so delicious and fresh. I had Magnolia’s cake the other day and it was awful compared to Buttercup. Please if you’re visiting NYC, get their cake it’s good, freshly made and perfect.

Terrible. I would not recommend. The cake was dry, and looked like it was decorated in a rush. The “cream cheese icing” was not even cream cheese. I am absolutely disappointed that i wasted my money.

Very very nice Bakery and cupcake shop midtown east. Got to try some of the cupcakes and really enjoyed them. Bought a slice of the cake and looking forward to trying that later. Small seating area if you want to eat there but most people seem to take out. Recommended.

This was my first time here and it may be the best carrot cake Ive ever had. 1st off the serving size is INSANE! $6 for a massive slice...Im sold. The actual cake itself is really good, quite spiced which is great. The frosting is not a super thick cream cheese like other places but it still has the same taste. Extremely pleased!

Horrible tasting cheesecake it was frozen and the red velvet cheesecake tasted sour and acidic meaning it’s been there for a while. The most horrible 25$ wasted in their. Including their coffee.

We popped in this cute little bakery after dinner one night. The staff was very attentive and nice. The goodies were bought were delicious and we will be going back for me before we leave town and will be coming back each time we are in town. The vanilla buttercream cake was delicious!!!

I just picked up a cake and but am little concerned after checking their food grade rating and seeing they have 33 points for violations. Their grade is now pending but they certainly wouldn’t get an A with that many violations.

I cant get enough of this place. If I am any where near this place its a must I stop by. They should just make an all you can eat buffet.

I was trying to order a cake for a birthday celebration, at least a month before the celebration. It was very hard to get a response via email and the store staff was even worse. None of the staff knew the pricing of any cakes when I stopped in. Directed me back to the email. When I called the store because I was not getting any responses back from my email (and follow up emails) they told me to just wait for an email response. Now the event is a few days away, and I would have been screwed if I relied on them for my cake. Your cupcakes may be good, but your customer service is atrocious.

Be cautious if ordering here for a special occasion! Im a long time customer and ordered my daughters birthday cake from Buttercup. I ordered it online a week before and the store was CLOSED when I went to pick it up at my designated time. FYI - the hours on Google places is WRONG - Sunday 9am to 9pm. The website states that they are open @ 11am on Sunday - no one was there at 11:30am. No phone call. No email. No communication. What is perhaps the most disappointing was the tone of the manager - she blamed me for ordering at the wrong time on the website. I ended up buying four cakes from Fairway - it caused a lot of unnecessary stress and commotion on an already busy day. Never again.

They have, hands down, the BEST vanilla cupcakes. Their version of the twinkie is worth the trip too.Edit 11/11/17: I had a slice of their vanilla and buttercream cake in October and Im still thinking about it a month later. This bakery does vanilla very very well.Edit 07/14/18: Im still thinking about that vanilla cake almost a year later. It was really good. Im going back soon, and Im tempted to get a whole cake.

Was just walking by and decided to go in with a coworker... this place has personality and the cakes are beyond delicious. I’ve tasted a lot of cakes and a lot of delicious cakes... but,,, this took my tastebuds to whole new level!!! I normally wouldn’t write a review about cake because cake is cake. However, I am making an exception here because I was literally blown away... the service by the team was impeccable as well... friendly smiles and wonderful personalities... one of the staff members, Pamela, super sweet and super accommodating. I had the carrot cake, while eating we noticed a cupcake with a pretty lavender color icing and we were trying to figure out how to pronounce the name of it. The name of it was Ube,... we asked Pamela and she explained how it’s made and told us it’s pronounced Ubay, with the U taking on the sound of two O’s like oohbay...( I tried my best, lol) anyway, she explained that it was made using purple yams from the Philippines. She explained that the sweetness and the purple color come from the ube. She gave us a sample and.... words can’t really describe some things... this was one of those things... I can’t relate in words how good it was... wow... well I think I’ve written a short novel at this point so I’ll stop... but thank you Pamela and the rest of the team there at Buttercup Bake Shop! This will definitely be my new go to whenever I need a cake or want a sweet treat...

We stumbled into this place looking for something sweet after a big salty bowl of ramen. The cupcakes are really good, the frosting is like eating a stick of butter and I mean that in the best possible way.

Because someone I was with insulted the manager (unbeknownst to me) apparently months prior, I was told I can only order if that person I was with left the store. The employee Michelle eventually let me purchase my dessert after questioning how that affected me as a new, paying customer. I was shocked and embarrassed at how unprofessional the manager Natalie was. Needless to say, I wont be going there again for my sweet cravings and I would Never recommend this place to anyone, let alone family and friends that visit. With attitudes like that, they wont be in business long.
