Decent coffee nothing fancy but still good. Not a lot of food options
Im never Grumpy after a cappuccino here! Seriously, if you want strong Italian coffees to kickstart your day, this is the place.Quite a hidden gem!
Really cute little place! Staff was very nice and the cold brew is great.
Perfect Iced Latte! It is a small place, part of Grand Central & entrance on the street, too. If you are looking for a big interaction and conversation, probably not the place. But if you want a delicious pick-me-up that isnt Starbucks (they are everywhere!), then try Cafe Grumpy!
Really lives up to its name. I walked in and exclaimed, I heard you guys have coffee!, to which I received a numbing and awkward silence, and an unenthusiastic what can I get you. The coffee was pretty good! Tip your barista (which I did)!
I’ve worked in coffee for years and normally I’m a big fan of Grumpy (hence 3 stars instead of less) but they were uncharacteristically rude at this location. I asked why they were charging me the same for an iced cortado as an iced latte ($6.75 with oat!!!)—despite their hot counterparts having such a large price difference due to the different quantities of milk—and both employees gave me an exceedingly unfriendly retort about the “drink not even being on their menu,” so they were “just charging me for an iced latte and putting in less milk” ….yes, so an iced cortado..
Love the place. looks like. they hit a bump during the pandemic. hopefully they can get back.
Good but not up to the price:The place is small but easy to navigate as the sitting place is along a glass iverlooking one entrance of Grand Central. The macchiato is strong as it should be but a bit bitter and the milk was added before being “foamed”.The decoration is simple but nice and the music is good
Always impressed with the coffee options at this place. Delicious coffees!
Excellent coffee, diverse, and nice eclectic surroundings! Just a good varied mix from mellow jazz, the sixties to good modern. A little bit of everything. The food, the atmosphere, and the waitress are completely lovely, and the place is so cool and perfect to work. I will recommend this to anyone who loves coffee!
Very disrespectful staff, they tried to kick me out while I was waiting for my coworker that went to use the bathroom.I was there for less than 5 minutes. I was wearing my mask and I wasn’t eating or drinking anything, they tried to kick me out of the store and called their management to get me out in front of other customers. I explained the reason why I was waiting and I was also carrying a lot of things ( mines and my co workers) but they were Very inconsiderate and rude. I will never come back to this place.
I enjoyed my visit to this coffee shop! I thought the atmosphere and the environment were inviting, warm, and fun, and I loved the variety of seating that was available. I also really appreciated the separate space that was available for groups to reserve. It seemed to me that this coffee shop is a coffeehouse that caters to guests who are trying to get work done, which I thought was worthy.
Only decent coffeeshop open on sunday afternoon
Cute! Good coffee
Great coffeeexcellent cruise!!!
Friendly baristas, tasty pastries, colorful interior, and good internet connection. It was such a perfect place to chill and to grab a good coffee. I like how calming the ambiance of this place. The coffees and teas that they serve were so good. Also, they had a breakfast menu if you want to grab breakfast.
I was happy to discover a new cafe inside Grand Central Terminal. The cappuccino was delicious, and the two employees were very professional and polite. However, it looks like because of the covid19 situation, they are only serving coffee and tea, and no food items, such as pastries. Also, right now, they are completely cashless, so if you go, make sure you bring a credit card or debit card. Maybe the next time I visit they shall have a food item or two.
A friend from the university recommended this coffee shop. We are so glad that he did. Each of us enjoyed a specialty coffee and either biscotti or a cookie. We are astonished by how their order pickup process and not much waiting room work well, but the crowdedness is a sign of their growing business. We will certainly return here!
An amazing staff who will make youre experience better, if you are near to grand central you must go there for a latte, an americano, or a capuchino. You can drink special coffee too, in a Chemex, buy good.coffee, and also you can get water to your bottle, without buying a new one, even they will give you ice.The coffe is from Ethiopia, Honduras and Guatemala. Excellent coffe.
Coffee was super bad and I commented and barista offered milk. I took a sip and still undrinkable. I said I was leavingNo offer to replace or give something elseI had paid. No way to keep a customerAvoid if you drink brewed coffee
One of the worst a chai lattes Ive ever had.
Great coffee selection
If youre in the area around Grand Central and are looking for a coffee fix this is THE place to go. The coffee is excellent, the staff are so pleasant, and they have a wide selection of milks including skimmed, soy and almond. I was feeling festive and recently tried the cookie butter latte which was beyond delicious, but the regular coffee is just as good. Its a pretty small shop, so probably best to be getting it to go.
I like their coffee, it has a strong taste. Also highly recommend the chive cheddar biscuit. Just with the prices were not so high but it is in a very busy and probably expensive location.
Roasted in Brooklyn- fresh, delicious and gives a huge boost to your day. The espresso here is on a completely different level than what you would normally see at larger chains. Make sure to put your seatbelt on before taking your first sip.
Great place for coffee. Always go here when in NYC, rich tasting and satisfying, yeh it’s just under $5 for latte etc but you get what you pay for!Can get busy at certain times but service is always friendly. Would’ve loved to have bought a mug to take home but $12 a mug is a bit steep tbh!
Really lovely baked goods - the chocolate chip cookies and scones are delightful. Excellent coffee. Good service. Prices are what can be expected in midtown Manhattan
They really know their coffee and do fabulous espresso drinks. This place is the highlight of every Metro North journey I take. Great people, tasty pastries, and the best coffee you’ll get in and around GCT.
Please go here if you want to be ignored... want to wait... and want to have them “forget” your drink. Had this happen several times. Their general manager... who I spoke to on the phone twice... promised me a coupon. Never showed up. “We’ve had some problems with that location” was all he could explain. The place is a dump and many other places eager for your business. Go elsewhere.
Service is usually good but the americanos & drip coffees are not worth the amount they charge. Expresso may be good but for their black coffees are just vile- bitter like a punch in your chest. I’ve had a lot of good coffee from Italy and theirs don’t compare. I don’t see why people line up for this.
Fast efficient friendly train station fancy pants coffee. Best nitro cold brew in the city if you like it foamy and grassy though a bit absurdly expensive (6.25!!!)
This is a relatively small location inside Grand Central. The coffee quality here is excellent.I recently went a couple of times and got cold brew and there were some minor issues, hence the four stars instead of five. First off, they only sell medium size. I want a large coffee in the morning to start my day. It is a big downside that I can only get a medium iced coffee if I come here, and prevents me from coming more often. Second, they do not put the proper amount of ice in the cup. The ice melted and the coffee warmed before I finished it, and I drank it pretty quickly. They need to put slightly more ice in the cups. Lastly, they did not fill the cup to the brim. Considering I am paying $4+ for less than 12 ounces of coffee, the cup should be filled to the top. Especially for cold brew, which is very often not combined with milk.Another minor issue- the cashier stamped my punch card for one coffee even though I bought two. When I asked for the other punch he had a bit of an attitude. However, he did punch the other hole. This is really minor, but does affect the experience. This only happened once though.
Mild tasting espresso which was the first for me— and it’s actually delicious. I wish I tried oat milk to my drink (I got soy). I got a refreshing and light tasting iced mocha. A bit on the pricier side especially with the alternative milk.Staff are friendly and the space was small but clean with a few spots to sit if you wanted to dine in for a bit.
Dont let the name fool you. You wont be grumpy after you come here. Coffee is strong, baristas are friendly and the music is great. A good boost to your morning routine. A fan of orange merchandise and we have a couple of those in our office.
I had a great experience at the Grand Central location last week. I dropped in on a crazy hot afternoon for an ice latte. The Barista was so into it, friendly and my drink was GOOD. I went home and kept thinking about how delicious it was, ended up buying a pound of Grumpy coffee at Whole Foods (I live in CT) and was also impressed. Thank you for a highlight to my city day.
Simple, cramped, fast paced coffee shop. I got an iced cortado with oat milk. Highly recommended. The espresso was very different than what Im used too. It was a little bright and extremely mild. I encourage anyone in the area to stop by, especially if youre staying in the Grand Hyatt.
Enjoyed my cappuccino. The restaurant has an adorable theme and interesting culture among the employees that is noticeable as a consumer. There is a small area for seating, which was appropriate for a quick break. Conveniently located in Grand Central, and good deviation from the usual Starbucks without needing to go too far. May come back again while in the area.
I love this place! It is a bit small and gets very busy but the coffee is well worth it! I like to stop whenever Im nearby and grab something. They even have yummy seasonal drinks to mix things up.
If you like a solid cup of coffee, go here. Solid: strong but not overly toasted, average price, amenable service. Their mugs for sale are the classic Grumpy image. You know, a millenium coffee bar.
Amazing coffee!! One of the best Ive had in NYC good service :)

Great coffee as long as the lines arent too long. Grand central is convenient except for the massive drones of people everywhere.
Perfect balance of flavor in the lattes, well-brewed espresso, and amazing foam. I dont even like oat milk, but I loved the oat milk latte
Excellent Coffee! Limited seating and limited food options. They don’t seem Grumpy at all though. An excellent choice for a take out coffee
Great coffee. I like it so much I buy their beans for my home-use pour over coffee.
Nice to see they have the new Square point-of-sale, but it doesnt help them miss a few orders every now and then. Coffee is good, though, just stay alert in case they skip your turn.
The staff are very friendly and always good services. I love my almond latte is rich and creamy. They make it with love. Excelente.
Really amazing coffee here. I havent been to a coffee spot in NYC where I was disappointed, and Cafe Grumpy is no exception!I love their coffee cups, their design is subtle and cute. I was very tempted to save my cup.The baristas here are very friendly and cheerful people; I enjoyed my visit mainly because of the service!
The best espresso I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to a lot of different coffee shops. I go out of my way to visit there.
Latte was excellent. Offers some gluten free and vegan pastries too!
Really good coffee and vegan desserts. Great location in Grand Central Station...come off the train, grab some your coffee and head to work...the staff are well organized and friendly - despite the name!
Cafe Grumpy does great coffee the way we Australians like it, which is really the Italian style that established itself in the inner city cafes of Melbourne generations ago. Starbucks never flourished here the way it did in the USA. Starbucks began to invade Melbourne some years ago believing that the coffee nazis would embrace their style, but they lost and had to shut down half their stores. We like the coffee to be made from roasted ground beans expressed under pressure from a big espresso machine. Then steam and froth the milk. This is what you will get at Cafe Grumpy and they also have a range of milk too. Its a life saver in New York.
Great espresso. Easy in and out service. Friendly staff. Small, but comfortable setting to get your quick caffeine fix. What more can you ask for?
Very kind staff, good matcha latte. Their pastries are okay, nothing too special to me. I would’ve opted for some other pastries if you have time and you’re at grand central terminal.
I love coffee. So I am always excited to get some iced coffee to jump start my day, unfortunately once I received my iced coffee (I asked for it in mocha flavor) it tasted like chocolate milk. There was no trace of any coffee whats so ever. I am very disappointed. This was my first time coming here and I will not be coming back. Plus the workers were a bit rude to me. The only positive thing about this experience is that they were very efficient in taking orders and having the drinks ready in a short time.
I visited this location because I had a meeting with a friend. The cafe was fine, I was pouring out my coffee in the trash because I didnt know if there was a place to pour it somewhere.. one employee comes to me and starts to almost yell saying sir, we dont do that here I said sorry and he keeps going on about how we dont do this at home, honestly this is too much for paying for a expensive coffee and being treated like some kid, its just a cafe..
Amazing drip coffee! First time trying Grumpys. Stopped by after 6pm to get an iced coffee, and not only was it freshly made, it was the best drip coffee I have ever tried -- great deep flavor but not bitter (this was with milk and simple syrup added). Wonderful customer service, the barista who made the drink was very pleasant and friendly. The store itself is very clean (so important for a location in a train station). I highly recommend this location. If youre trying to locate it, the easiest way is from Lexington Ave (its the first store on the right in the Lexington Passage, aka the hallway just south of the Grand Central Market).
Dont come here if youre going to order a mocha choca latte with extra foam and some sprinkles on top. Thats not what Cafe Grumpy - or any coffee shop that takes its coffee seriously - is about. The staff are super efficient here, real friendly and engaging - bloody good at their job when it comes to speedy service without slacking on quality. They kept me fuelled for the long days and nights I spent in NYC. I miss them already.
Four stars for a tasty, strong, more-than-just-foamy-milk cappuccino, and one more star for serving it in a ceramic cup and saucer. Add in nice clerks, glasses and water on the counter, no crowd on Saturday afternoon, and a soundtrack curated by a knowledgeable rock fan and youve got a new regular customer.
Wonderful drinks and friendly service. Delicious turmeric ginger latte.
Friendly, quick service. Good coffee.
Maybe it was just a bad day but I got a drip coffee that had a thick layer of coffee grounds on the bottom. I havent had issues at other locations so Ill be staying away from this one
Great stop for a quick coffee in the busy terminal
Came in for a coffee buzz before work. They have simple, true black coffee at a reasonable price. Great atmosphere!
My favorite ice latte in NY! Great coffee quality, (no sugars or other stuff mixed). Love it
If u guys r not willing to call customers name when coffee is ready, why u bother to ask when we place the order??? Is that NY style?? I dont get it.
Best cafe in NYC (Ive tried their Cappuccino with vegan milk, which was great!) and they also have delicious vegan pastries.
One of the best coffee shops in the city. Can’t go wrong with a cappuccino from grumpy
Always have solid single origins available. Morning rush makes for a long line in a pretty cramped space. Lots of menu options, quality beans, good coffee.
Very good coffee. Orignial taste
Stop here most morning I pass through Grand Central. Usually a long line that moves very fast. Great cold brew
Excellent coffee with polite entertaining staff. It is fun watching them do all these coffees and dance and call you when it is ready.
Good coffee, great but very pricey specialty coffee/tea latte-ish drinks. Efficient but not cozy space, and sadly is nearly always out of Oatly oat milk, which is a huge draw for me.
They aren’t really grumpy but it’s pretty straightforward no syrupy flavors. I recommend the cortado.
Workers need to wear gloves. When they pick up cup to write your name their hands touch the lip of the cup and it makes me upset.
Nice coffee and a nice break on our self guided tour
Good coffee and service and you bring your cup and get a discount
When it comes to whole bean coffee, while expensive, the beans here are great! This is a super tiny little place and they have no wifi, bit the coffee is very good
