One of the problems with working on the Columbia Presbyterian Campus at 168th Street and Haven Avenue had been the absence of being able to get a great cup of coffee or being able to browse at a great bookstore on a cold or rainy day! This problem was eliminated about five years ago when ColumbiaUniversity opened a Starbucks- Barnes & Nobles cafe and bookstore on Haven Avenue directly across from the entrance to the New York Psychiatric Institute. Contrary to a few of the other reviewers, I think the staff does a great job both at the cafe and in the campus store. It’s a great place to shop for gifts, buy a Columbia University sweatshirts or best selling books.
Good:Great collection of medical reference books, textbooks, and USMLE study books. I enjoyed being able to look in all of the books and was able to get a book that I needed immediately. There is a section of popular non fiction books by Columbia authors. Many of them medically focused.Bad:Every book that I looked at was significantly less expensive online (not just a small difference).
Really enjoy this cafe. There’s plenty of room to plug in your laptop to work/study. The coffee is starbucks and the food is actually pretty good. They also have clean bathrooms and an extremely nice staff. I’ve come here a lot throughout my med school years.
Have a wheel chair access
Awesome, well rounded school. Excellent education. One of the best in the world.
Ok I will admit o work on capus
Small but nice, customer friendly service. Also has a cafe right next to it which to my knowledge always has seating.
Books.Coffee Wi-Fi 2 Bathrooms. Its a place.
Dont buy a chai tea latte in the Starbucks Café on Haven Avenue. It does not taste the same as the one from the actual Starbucks store and they fill it with foam even when you request for them to remove the foam. The counter is full of workers who know nothing about customer service. Very disappointing.
