This bookstore is a swell place for getting university school books, notebooks, and lots and lots of Columbia University swag. The connection between the school and the bookstore is probably the biggest super power of this place. While you can get the books on Amazon or other locations, the bookstore is the most up to date. And they can get books that are backorder or otherwise difficult to locate. They even have used books. It is located subterranean ly right on the edge of campus. There is an escalator down and also stairs. The place can get pretty busy at times, and its packed during parents weekends abs other such events.
Great bookstore with lots of Columbia clothing! Clothing cost ranges from $10-$60. I found exactly what I wanted at a reasonable price!
Loved it. It was exciting to see it again after 20 years. Great memories. Tradition appreciated.
Ok...the BEST fabric/material for awesome T-shirts to PROUDLY & COMFORTABLY wear....COLUMBIA ROCKS!!
The bookstore at Columbia University is allright, but it used to be so much better! Now it has basic stuff like most chain stores, but very little outside the middle of the road. Almost half of the store is clothing and Columbia University merchandise. For a university bookstore, this doesnt really meet the needs.
Merch is too expensive but the selection is decent. Sometimes low on small-medium sizes. Sweatshirts are very high q though and staff is friendly :)
I never thought that I would be treated so badly in this bookstore of this famous university. I am an English student at this university and I personally went to buy a book. I asked a guy with no hair who works there about a book I needed to study English and his treatment to me was super impolite and rude. I went back with him to ask him if by any chance they had a damaged or used version of the book and his answer was worse. Extremely unpleasant and disappointing to be treated like this at this book sale. If you decide to buy a book here, stay away from this guy.
Super helpful staff. The hours are incredibly limited and nearly eliminates any working persons average weekday opportunity. The store is also hard to reach via the phone.
Beautiful campus, definitely have to visit especially if you or have kids that are looking to attend.
Friendly and helpful staff. Quick and checkout.
I have left several messages for service and they have not returned my calls. Therefore, I will never order another thing from them again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice.......................
Everything is so expensive. Convenient to get to.
Great bookstore with exceptionally helpful staff. Also appreciate their adherence to covid safety protocols.
Jim went above and beyond assisting me in procuring a receipt for a purchase I made months ago. Looks like I’m coming here more often instead of Amazon!!
School of Engineering is very underrepresented within its apparel catalog. Only XXL avail for SEAS shirts
The worst bookstore in this universe, I am proud to be a Lion but I feel sick the bookstore is a mess!🤮 They lost my 300$ package and I can’t contact them through phone or email, been 2 weeks and still no reply. Columbia University should deserve a way better admin at bookstore instead of hurting their alumni and visitors.🤢
Pretty ridiculous - can never get hold of anyone regarding my order. Mailbox to leave a message is full, no response to email - its been 3 days. Got hold of two people on the phone and they put you on hold and never get back to you. In-person maybe different, but customers are customers whether in-person or on phone.
Completely agree with many other reviews. The bald guy at the textbook counter is extremely rude and got a really bad attitude. No willingness to do his job properly and help students look for textbooks they need. The bigger problem is other staff at the textbook counter learn from him and mimic his attitude. Something needs to be done seriously.
It was so cool! You should go
Really wish I had read these reviews before purchasing anything online. I can confirm the poor customer service and inability to get a hold of anyone. The phone line rings endlessly until you are disconnected. I arrived to my package emptied of over $100 worth of apparel. UPS has decided the package is not eligible for a claim, and Columbia wont answer. Its really sad that students unable to physically be on campus to purchase apparel cannot have something to celebrate the accomplishment of attending the school. If you purchase anything online be aware the odds of you getting what you paid for are low to none.
Nice University Bookstore, expensive but as I expected.
Im touched that the staff is so kind. She is looking good and smile and I wanted to refund and exchange.. she did it all for me with her smile. I cant forget it. Thanks.
Bookstore is in a basement. They have a lot of items (like water bottles, school supplies, ear buds, caps, sweaters, pants, etc.), but like all other university bookstores, everything is expensive.
All the Columbia U gear you need and all you dont need too. 🤣
Good product portfolio.
Love this place 🥰
Fun place!
Diane is a Rockstar! She really helped me with a customer service issue and was lovely to speak with! :)
Just a heads up for non-university customers there medical book section is very small.
A large college bookstore, reminiscent of a Barnes and Noble, but with a lot of Columbia paraphernalia to boot. While it is nice, you are probably not going to go in here unless you are a student, visiting, or work at the college. As visitors, however, we enjoyed it.
Nice staff, order online and pick up
Young lady at cash register, friendly & helpful, smiling!!
Poor customer service by the guy at the text books counter. Seemed very unwilling to answer a customers simple question. The store otherwise has a good collection but is overpriced.
DO NOT PLACE ONLINE ORDERS.
Columbia goods!
Wrong item received and no responseUpdated 7/6/1/20 3:30 pm- After sending message from their contact link on the website, Abby reached out to me. She is sending a new sweatshirt and has provided a new tracking number.I ordered a Columbia sweatshirt on June 6th. I received a Reolink solar panel on June 26th. I sent an email right after opening the package and finding the wrong item. I received an automatic reply email so I called the store manager, Tom Spalango, listed in the auto reply email. The message on the voicemail stated the box was full and I was unable to leave a voicemail. I called the listed store number. Ive not gotten any response and still do not have the sweatshirt.I sent another email stating I would be more than happy to return the solar panel so that I could receive the item that I ordered, which costed more than the mini solar panel (as advertised on amazon). Its now July 6th and still have not heard from the store and still do no have the sweatshirt. I would definitely avoid ordering anything online from this store.
Great service :D
I love this bookstore. They offer some really neat apparel and campus gear. 5 stars all around! Go Lions!
Its hardly a bookstore. Three fifths of the store is filled with rack upon rack of sweaters, t-shirts, shorts, socks, and caps with COLUMBIA emblazoned upon them. I dont think the store sells magazines anymore, not even the serious ones every bright student should be reading.
Nice, lots of different varieties of clothes and things. Helpful and friendly staff. Didnt have my size.
Quite a nice collection overall - if you look around, it possible to find some really good deals on collector editions here. Also there’s a section with gilded books that’re very reasonably priced and make great gifts! Also good for Columbia University merch.
I love getting books on sale . Many cool things hear to buy or to look at:)
One of the reputational universities. there was a bookstore and I bought a hoody. thats all
Clean, well organized display, you can use Barnes and Noble gift cards and downloading their app will give you discount off one item. Typical college gear in addition to whimsical ones.
Love it
I ordered a used book to rent. It took them 4 days to confirm, that the book is on the way. I kept getting this very same email (stating, the book is on the way) everyday for 3 more days. I called and was promised the book for the next day (8 days after order). It was not there, furthermore I was told, used rental is not available. Thanks for telling me after 8 days of waiting. The one star goes to one very nice employee at the store actually trying to help me.
Not the most impressive or useful college campus store I’ve seen. To be fair it’s in New York so it couldn’t be too large I presume, but always lacks something in all department- clothing / stationary / etc. they should work on a more thoughtful selection of products to compete with nearby stores that do better and cheaper.
Hard to find things but there are some good sales sometimes.
You just want to buy everything in this store. You suddenly learn you always wanted a pen/notebook/shirt/coffee mug/baseball cap with Columbias logo on it. Nothing is very cheap and the service is just ok, though.
The bookstore offers anything a college student would need and be too lazy to go out an buy, including room supplies and stationary, books, clothing, and some food. However, because of the convenience, it is overpriced and appeals more to tourists than students themselves. Their towels are horrible quality, but the sweaters are comfy and soft, and most other things are good. If youre a visiting prospective student, its worth checking out, but dont expect to find normal students shopping there. In the end, youre better off buying Columbia apparel there, but not much else. Its layout is like a typical Barnes and Noble.
You do not have to be a Columbia student to shop here! They carry a selection of fiction, non-fiction and travel books. Additionally, they offer a wide selection of school/organizational supplies.
No one answers the phone, it just rings. I am highly annoyed that I purchased well over 200 in merchandise today and when I returned home to Nj I am missing one of the more expensive items a sweat shirt for my child. Now I have been calling for the last 20 mins before the store closes and no one answers. As an alumni I am highly disappointed and frustrated with this major inconvenience.. smh 🤦♀️
Great store for a school needs. One star off because it doesnt have to be B&N and carry kids toys for every theme.
Large with decent selections for students and pleasure readers alike.
I love this store...it is the perfect place for a student
Staff has always been pleasant and helpful, especially when I needed books that were not ordered by professors.
Columbia book store was great, I loved looking as all the items they had for sale, the items were expensive, but considering it Columbia University I guess its OK.
The bookstore was easy-to-navigate although pretty pricey for closing.
All student bookstore that I have went to are pretty expensive so lets just keep that in mind with this post. The book stores very friendly. The staff is more than welcome meme and have a pleasant demeanor when answering even the silliest of questions. They have a large selection of clothing, but nothing that passes 2XL. Ive heard that you could email and request larger sizes, but they rarely respond. Theres a lovely little lounging area in the book part of the store that is great to sit and chill in. This location does not require a key card to get to but if you want to get into the rest of Lerner you will need to get your key card or go around to the other side of the Lerner entrance. Theres also an elevator to this location.
Nice...but pricey...liked it well for getting mementos.
The supervisor at the register was amazing! I really wish I can remember her name😔
I like bookstores in general and this one has some nice things ...butbe aware, it is overpriced! So unless you are a Columbia University staff member (they get 10% discount), you can probably find cheaper options in other stores.
So far the biggest bookstore of all different campuses Ive visited through the US. It has a large variety of books (of course) for students or visitors. But most of it you can find an humongous variety of Columbia clothing for sports activities : hoodies, basketball, running, lacrosse, ...If you like this kind of clothing it might be hard to enter this place without purchasing at least a couple of items :)
Amazing choice. If you r reading & love read this store for you
Smaller than average Barnes and Noble bookstore with Columbia University gear. Service is normally fast and friendly. Oddly enough, they usually only have 75% of the textbooks I need.
Like most universities/colleges, the price of items are steep. No worries I still purchased a $30 water bottle for my kid. 😁
There’re more books than I expected. The souvenir section also has many options including cups, T-shirts, bathing towels etc. You could also find exam prep materials for GRE, GMAT, AP, etc. here.
Best library
Nice bookstore located just outside Columbia. They have a great collection of columbia branded items, however this place is overpriced AF.
Clerks are nice and helpful. Bought a T-shirt with special price during the discount hours.
Everyone was helpful, lots of different products.
A nice enough bookstore, well-stocked and tidy. Wish it had a cafe or coffee shop, however.
Great place. Love the cosy couch and reading section!
We stocked with Columbia paraphernalia, but somewhat above average in prices
Love this place! Naturally, the prices are high, but the items are official and made really well.
Purchased a pair of Skullcandy Bluetooth wireless earbuds from Colmbia University Bookstore, my music skipped every time my iPod was in my pocket. I went back to the bookstore to try a second pair, same issue. Walked back to the bookstore a third time to return the earbuds and request a refund. I had no trouble with customer service.
Good selection of Columbia stuff, but really rude service.
Employees always happy to help. Good selection
Extremely rude and apathetic staff. Youd get better customer service from drug dealers
Walk down the hallowed aisle of this bookstore gives me goosebumps.
Found the CU branded masks I was looking for
The worst bookstore imaginable. After waiting 2 weeks still no books. Use Amazon, it is definitely more responsive, helpful and properly stocked.
Your smaller than average Barnes and Noble bookstore with Columbia University gear. Service is normally fast and friendly. Oddly enough, they usually only have 75% of the textbooks I need.
Its a bookstore. They carry all the clothing, trinkets and things you might need with Columbia logos... Oh and they also have books.
Very friendly staff.
I always enjoy reading and catching up on the latest at this bookstore.
Overpriced Columbia-branded gear. If cost of tuition doesnt scratch that spending itch, this is the perfect place to be.
Good selection, you can get everything ine needs for school. Maybe a wee bit expensive
I was not at all impressed with the selection of Columbia gear here. They didnt have a great selection of lanyards and of course had the obligatory ties and that kind of garbage. Its mostly just sweatshirts. This is a pretty mundane book store and I wish Columbia didnt outsource it. They could have done a much more spirited job.
Extremely expensive, even for a Barnes & Noble in the city. Definitely Columbia charging a mark-up for the location. With a gift card I got to it, the only things I could afford were car decals.
I dont get how one of the premier Ivy League universities can host such an awful University book store. Glad this is what our 8 billion dollar endowment is going toward.
