Independent shop that is easy and pleasant to work with and has fair prices. I’ve been going to them for just over a year for regular maintenance and I will stick with them. They focus on what I ask for and need and haven’t pushed any upsells, which I appreciate! I also like that they email quotes and records right away.

I have been a customer for two years with two different vehicles (BMW X5 & Mercedes Sprinter) and the service is always exceptional and timely. They keep you up to speed with everything and send all of the details over via email for review before proceeding. The work is always thorough and the staff is extremely knowledgeable!

I brought my Jaguar XJL in and they did a fantastic job on fixing it. They diagnosed the problem so fast and had my car ready the next day. Compared to the dealership prices, these are the best prices around if u have a foreign vehicle. I look forward to doing business with this company. I recently had my 2012 Mini Cooper towed to DJ Foreign Auto Care because of some issues I was having with the engine overheating and stalling when idle. I wanted to find a repair shop that had expertise in working on Minis, so I chose DJ based on positive reviews over another mechanic that had already told me that it would cost $565 to replace the thermostat (no charge for inspection). Darwin let me know beforehand that it would be $150 to inspect my car and find out what was wrong and I agreed. I let him know that I was already told that I had a coolant leak. When I got the invoice, I was surprised to see 2 $150 charges for the inspection, with his rationale being that the thermostat inspection is an additional charge. I was never informed of this beforehand and had no choice but to accept it. The inspection was thorough and although I wasn’t happy about the extra charge, his estimate to repair the thermostat was lower so I rationalized it would about even out in the end and I was in more competent hands. I got a call the next day saying that the entire thermostat had to be replaced instead of repaired, which would be additional $180+. I already racked up $300 for the inspection(s) and wasn’t in a position to decline service at this point (bait & switch). My car was towed there, and I needed it to be driveable. I told them to go ahead and do it, but declined the replacement of my spark plugs and coils which would have been another $800+ because they charged double for labor on the plugs and coils when it takes the same amount of time to change both. I ended up watching a YouTube video and doing that repair myself with OEM parts for less than $130 total. In the end, my bill was $995 for a thermostat repair that would have cost me less than $600 at a local large competitor. I made a big mistake. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.EDIT** they did NOT get my approval for the double inspection cost. The told me it was going to be $150 and got my approval for 1 inspection at that rate. Total authorized was $150 as shown in photos.

Darwin was absolutely fantastic and patient while working out the repairs required for my Land Rover. Very upfront with pricing estimates and ended up coming in below the estimate due to used part availability. 5/5 cannot recommend enough to come here! Having previously tried another foreign shop closer to my location south, they cannot compare to DJ’s and well worth the additional drive time!

These guys are awesome! They’ve been taking care of my 2008 Smart Car for over 10 years and always let me know if there are any issues with it that I didn’t notice. There aren’t a whole lot of Smart Cars around anymore (indeed, they told me they only have one other customer who owns one!) so I’m thankful they know what they’re doing. They are personable, competent and prompt. If you own a foreign car, be sure to give these guys a shot. You WON’T be disappointed!

My car was completely misdiagnosed by this shop - so it was a total waste of $150. I had an ABC check light on and they said it was bad air bladder bags, which would have been something around $1,000 to change out. Took it to Mercedes afterwards to get a second opinion and it was clearly leaking lines that needed to be replaced, not the air bladders which run and work fine. Had I went with this place - I would have wasted who knows how many thousands of dollars.

Had a great experience with DJ Foreign Auto Care! Called in the late afternoon to inquire about a door actuator repair for my BMW, they provided a great rate, warranty and said they could do it the next morning and have it back to me by midday. I dropped it off the next morning, was given a complimentary ride home while they repaired it, then when it was time for pickup, they called and offered a complimentary ride there. Service was great, timely, and the repair was fixed! Thank you!

Brought a non Starting BMW X1 here to service.Their initial diagnosis called for a starter replacement (quoted at about $1,100) including their diagnostic fee. Work was authorized. After the starter replacement they realized that the ground strap to the engine was bad (and quoted an additional $200 for its replacement). After I highlighted (and they confirmed) that a starter cannot run without a good ground strap and they had possibly replaced a starter that did not require replacement the issues began. They never admitted any wrongdoing or offered any real alternative to fixing their error. I proposed that since the new starter had been installed they cover the labor for its installation and I pay for the part, but this was refused. Furthermore expect prices for parts that are marked up close to 2x Online Prices for OEM BMW parts. My starter listed at $350 Online was price at over $600 by the shop.EDIT POST after Your Reply:The Ground strap is not a secondary Issue, It was the primary issue! As you stated in your correspondence a starter does not run with a bad ground strap. You diagnosed this backwards, which disregards your obligation to minimizing costs for your customers. You jumped to the conclusion that the starter needed replacing without checking the basics first. Maybe the starter was bad, but your lack of a proper diagnosis has eliminated my trust in your enterprise.Also yesterday you stated you used Original BMW Parts, here you state OEM parts, only difference they do not carry the manufacturers logo. So which is it OEM or BMW Parts? There is a significant pricing difference. How much did you pay for the starter I was charged $622.22? Post an invoice here with your actual cost and If it matches this amount, I will take this review down.

Never under any circumstances use DJs. Darwin is horribly un-professional and took 4 trips to solve an issue that Discount Tire was able to resolve. Cannot recommend!

I had to have my transmission replaced in a 2006 Jaguar XJ8 L. I was very pleased with the service being on a budget and all. I was in Mpls visiting my motherwho transitioned while I was there . After some issues with some work I had done on the brakes of my 2010 Bmw 328i, I was contacted by the shop after leaving a review and received an apology and the word of the shop owner that he would do the job right and then some with no charge. I was also given a ride home from the shop and picked up at home to return to the shop which was very convenient. The driver was nice and my brakes feel great. This shop seems dedicated to keeping their customers returning when they need work on their cars which means a lot to me. The ability to admit mistakes and then go out of the way and beyond to fix them is a token of professionalism, quality of care, and dedication to the craft. In the end, they made sure I got the service I wanted and with the extra services they added on to ensure my satisfaction I feel very good about the work I had done at DJs.

As an owner of a Land Rover, you come to learn that you can/will only take your vehicle to certain mechanics who actually know what they are doing. Since I moved I still drive 2.5 hours to DJ. They are simply the best. Tackling difficult electrical issues and problems that many others could not find. They are very up front about price and stand behind their work. I would not hesitate ever to take my vehicle to DJ...they are the best!

Few years ago had valve cover gasket replaced. In process they broke a plastic vent that I got to pay for. Recently had a full brake kit installed. During that they stripped one of the caliper brackets so I got to pay an extra $170 for that to be replaced. (How do you strip a forged bracket?) Then to really make my day, when I went to pick it up, I had slotted rotors and they had the rear rotors on the wrong side. I shopped for price... you get what you pay for.

Work was done promptly. Cost was actually slightly less than quoted!

This Auto chair shop does not want to work on your vehicle if you have ignition interlock. They discriminate against you. I would recommend against using them.

I had already gotten another estimate from a shop to solve my overheating issue in an older BMW. The folks at DJ diagnosed the problem more accurately, gave me full color pictures with their inspection, and took the time to explain the issue to me. Turn around was incredibly fast, especially for the age of the vehicle. Highly recommended.

My Rover became disabled while I was in Minneapolis. From a distance JB assisted with getting it brought to their location, got it running and got to the bottom of the problem. Their estimate was thorough and accurate. They also provided an inspection which they E-mailed me. They procured the necessary part and completed the work on a timely basis.Even though they are located 4 1/2 hours away I will return to use them. I have confidence in their capability to solve tough issues. Justin is very thorough and explains things well.

Great experience at DJ Foreign Auto! They are always so friendly and thorough. They tell me what needs to be done and when and what it will cost. My car is old, so I realize parts wear out, but it certainly is less than car payments. I appreciate their honesty and know when I leave I can be confident my car will perform well.

I see all these five start reviews but my experience wasnt that great at all. I brought my car in two or three times telling them I had just purchased it and really didnt know what was wrong with it. First off, the bash mini coopers like your always going to have problems. Fair enough they fixes an issue with my serpentine pulley system which was tearing up, but there were screws missing from a couple of key places on the top of the motors. The air-filter housing, all the screws were stripped, letting air get in from everywhere. They did not fill or top-off or even warn that fluids were not filled and were very low, leading to a thermostat issue . No break fluid, nothing topped off. All in all I spent about $1,600.00 there and one bill was for them look at my timing chain because I thought the car was loud. Came back to say it looked fine. So, I then took my car to Wilsons off highway 8. They charged me like $450.00 to get the car where it is now, running in tip top shape. Fuel filter replaced, relay that was making the car hard to start replaced. Fuel Pump replaced. They did a ton of diagnostics and were quick and friendly. The mechanics their care. I first went to Wilsons when the Thermostat was replaced. I called DJ Foreign Auto, even took it down there and they had no clue why the car was running the way it was. Went to Wilsons, he didnt even charge me, he hooked up a diagnostic, cleared the error codes and everything returned back to normal, just by resetting the computer. I called DJ Foreign Auto to update Darwin, cause I like him. But the guy who answered the phone was like Oh thats Wonderful!!! in a sarcastic and really rude way. Save your money, go somewhere else. Besides, all they really want to do is break, engine, and coolant flushes.

Always a great experience from the front office to the mechanics. Took my BMW 550i in for what I thought was a transmission issue which turned out to be a tire issue. They took the time to look through all the potential issues over a couple days, all for the diagnosis price they quoted me. I recently took my car to this garage for a diagnostic test, and found that the service was extremely poor. Agents appeared to be more interested in money than the service. They were not like that about three years ago. Things have definitely changed. They pretended to have done the test, but not sure whether they really did, and collected about $143.00 from me. They wound up telling me to make a second visit for another diagnostic test for which I was to pay. Greed and unscrupulousness was all over the place in the way they conducted business with me.I do not recommend them to anyone. Although, I do not intend to use their services in the future, I hope they read this review, and change their poor service quality.The public deserves way better.

They fixed my problem but...They took 24 hours longer than their estimated time of completionThey forgot to put a piece back on the car and had me waiting longer than expectedThey had me come in a day after my appointment because they didnt have time to look at my carThese guys do okay/good work and I would trust them with my car again but they need to be more realistic about their time management and they need to do a more thorough job and not forgot to put the car back together just as they took it apart.Sidenote: my friend went here a few years ago and they took 3+ months for an engine swap when they estimated 3 weeks. So just by the pattern here you should take their estimated date of completion with a grain of salt.All that aside, my car is running wonderfully.

Here’s the thing. Getting car repairs are not fun under any circumstance. Even more so when you get the estimate. These guys are going to charge a little more because they use OEM parts, have a skilled labor force and stand behind their work with a limited warranty. You get what you pay for.I had my valve cover gasket on my VW replaced by them and I noticed it was leaking months later. I stopped by and Justin took a look at it, cleaned up the area and then had me stop back later. So, I did. He told me he just needed to put it on the lift. And then called to confirm it was the valve cover gasket and said they’d take care of it because of the warranty.They didnt blame it on something else, they didn’t fight it, they just made it right. I highly recommend these guys. And I highly recommend Justin for being a fantastic human being and prompt with every communication. Would rate 6/5 if I could. Thanks, y’all!

My first experience at DJ was an interesting one. I accidentally dropped my BMW X5 off at a different shop in South Minneapolis. Darwin insisted it was no problem and went and got the truck. I was certain that it needed the front ball joint replaced. When it was on the lift, Darwin found out that the control arm was the culprit. Its now 2pm, and I asked if he could get a control arm and install it by days end... no problem he insisted. When I returned to the truck by 5:30pm, the new parts were already installed in the truck. Darwin kept me up to date with multiple phone calls throughout the process.I have since been back to DJ twice. Both times on Friday afternoons. Both times, Darwin kept the shop open an extra hour in order to complete my jobs. His techs are knowledgeable and no-nonsense.Finding an honest, reliable and price competitive shop is becoming increasingly difficult. Ive used many of the European shops in the Twin Cities and suburbs. I now trust DJ exclusively to take care of both of my BMWs.

We live on the NE side of town and going to either BMW dealer for service is inconvenient. After searching for a centrally-located option, we found DJ Foreign Auto Care. They have helped us with both of our cars on several occasions, and we have found them to be skilled, honest and responsive. Would recommend without any reservations.

I recently went to DJ Foreign auto care because my car was having some issues with the transmission. After a quick inspection they determined the problem and also knew there was an extended warranty from the dealer. I took my car the the dealer and long story short the check engine light needed to be on for the warranty to take effect. Since it wasnt on the dealer gave me some BS repairs that they said would fix the issue. The dealer quoted me about $1300 for all the repairs. Before I did anything a quick call back to DJ Foreign auto care to fill them in they saw right through the BS. They had me bring the car back to re-inspected it to make sure they didnt miss something the dealer claimed. (the dealer said I was low on transmission fluid and had leaking lines and thats why the transmission was having issues. When DJ Foreign auto care looked, the fluid was at normal levels and there were no leaks. A call to the dealer confirmed they didnt put any new fluid in). DJ Foreign auto care helped me avoid unnecessary repairs and took the time to educate me on what was happening with my car so I could make an educated decision on what to do. The entire staff is well trained and truly care about their clients best interests.

As the out-of-town parent of 2 college kids, I often felt helpless when the kids would call about a car issue. You never know of its serious or an easy fix. Ive owned foreign cars nearly all my adult life, and finding a mechanic who specializes in imports is tough. Thats until I met Darwin. My friend who owns a BMW told me about them and I trusted his word and have been happy ever since. I have owned 2 Hondas, a Toyota, Nissan, Jaguar, Mitsubishi and now a Suzuki. Its nice not having to think where I should bring my car anymore. Brought a used 2006 BMW 330ci in yesterday for a pre-purchase inspection, and this shop blew my mind.The inspection was VERY thorough at 3 hours, and the emailed report included photos of the areas the technician thought service was needed on, as well as price estimates for those recommended services! All the guys in the shop treated me with respect and were very kind and helpful.The waiting room was nice and cozy and I had a lovely chat with the guys at the front desk and also another waiting customer while I was there. It definitely had a family-run, familiar and low-key atmosphere.I also thought the inspection was a steal of a deal for how thoroughly my car was looked at. I wasnt pressured to add any other services, though I will definitely be bringing all of our cars back here for any work they may need.If you have an import and are looking for a thorough and trustworthy place to work on it, definitely bring your business to this independent shop. They are amazing.

These guys have been great! They not only saved me from a dealer rip-off quote but also took care of many small fixes that might become significant. Great service and people to work with.

I am a big fan of this shop. It is one of the few places I have found that will give me an opinion on my car other than what the computer tells them. They also go above and beyond to provide excellent service. When I needed to find a body part for my vehicle they volunteered to call the salvage yards and track down the part for me.

Ive been to DJ twice in the last month and they have exceeded my expectations by a long-shot. They are honest and will not jerk you around on anything, theyre one of the only places I trust to work on my vehicles. I will definitely be back again!

Not even 2 days later code for cylinder 7 misfire reappeared. $150 for what equates to just a blinker bulb. Not happy. 2001 Land Rover Discovery 2UPDATE: I appreciate the phone call, thats very personable of you. I did not however appreciate being treated as if I dont know my truck. Dropped 1 star.

They were able to get my range rover in and get fix for less of the price of the dealer.

Went by this shop and I dont live in this area as I was visiting family members.My cousin has a BMW which needed some work on brakes,This guys really know what they are doing and I saw many other foreign vehicles in there shop.There shop was very nice and so where the guys.Recommend to anyone who needs work on there foreign cars .
