This was my 3rd vehicle purchase at the Lubbock Texas store. The first two times it was smooth and quick….this time took 8 hours! It appeared the salesman we were dealing with had no idea what he was doing. If we hadn’t been getting the car for my fiancé I definitely would’ve walked out.
Braxton Reynolds was the person who helped us. He was new but polite and professional. The offer was the middle one we received. The best one expired a few days before when we were taking care of an ill family member. It took about two hours total with an appointment but that’s okay. Life Happens
Purchased a car from this location a couple of weeks later (within the 30 day warranty) it needed service. I was told if I emailed the receipt I would get a refund because it was within the 30 days. I sent the email and they never responded and have been trying to call for a month and they just give me the run around saying that the guy is not in and will give me a call once he gets it, but never calls.
Had an amazing experience. Everything went well and we were in and out in 15 minutes after selling our van for top dollar.

I sold my car to your company 7/29/2021.When I sat down the salesman took my two sets of keys and moved my vehicle to the back lot. He also held my title. I did receive a $17,000 offer by email on 7/29. I made an appointment 7/30, I thought for a final offer after you looked at my car.I will be 77 in a month an I an scared I will be paid nothing for my car.
I showed up early for my appointment to get an appraisal for my car in person since it was a 2021 model. I was given an offer within 90 minutes. The process was so easy and everyone I dealt with was friendly and professional! I highly recommend!

Liam was awesome to work with! The vehicle was not very clean, compared to vehicles we have purchased in the past. Liam and his team tidied up the vehicle while we were working on paper work!
After waiting 21 days for the vehicle to arrive we had to wait an additional four days for Carmax to get a state inspection done. This process in Texas easily only takes up to an hour. And that is if the inspection place is busy. Furthermore, even though Carmax says you can take the vehicle for a 24 hour test drive. What they do not tell you up front is that you need full coverage insurance on a previous vehicle to do so. Once we were finally allowed to test drive the van we found the interior to smell like old food and it had stains over all upholstery and even dried blood or soda on the dash. The manager of the store tried to tell me it was a repair on the dash that they would not clean up. Ill post pics for you if I can. We also found out that the van had undocumented damage once we took it to a mechanic for a prepurchase inspection of our own. I can not stress enough how important one of these are. It ended up saving us an additional $900 repair fee because at least Carmax covered this. As for the cleanliness of the vehicle. I was originally told that they would only reimburse me $30 to clean the interior. After pointing out that they tried to push off cleaning the vehicle multiple times and letting them know they were about to get the van back for a second time. Oh yeah, before we had the van transfered from out of state. It was taken home by a prior buyer who returned it to Carmax for all the above stated reasons. And the fact that it was priced $8000 over fair market value. Told to me by my banks auto loan dept. City Bank of Texas. In the end I finally got a reimbursement of $200 for an interior shampoo job only. There are still crumbs in the cup holders and crayons in some of the storage areas of the van. I did purchase the van in the end. Only because there are no used Nissan passenger vans located where Im at. Plenty of Nissan cargo vans though. Will I purchase another vehicle from Carmax? At this point the answer is no. Really wanted to have a better experience.

We have used Carmax three times. Two of our experiences were great. This last one was pretty terrible. They really struggled to communicate with our lender so our appointment was bumped back a whole week. And then they were scrambling at the last minute to get it all done. They scheduled our appointment for 8:30pm since we had a two hour drive to the lot. When we get there at 8:00, the dealership was closed. The manager they told us to contact wasn’t even there. But KUDOS to the manager that was there. She let us come on in and make our transaction with her employee who went above and beyond to help us. We love the car but bought it with a low back tire. So, overall it turned out fine with the help of the Lubbock dealership. The call center really messed things up, as well as the financial department. Not sure if we’ll use CarMax again.

This was the most horrible buying experience I have ever had. The salesman made several errors on our application which made him have to run our credit 3 more times. And our down payment went up $500 each time he ran it. The management team needs to go back to business 101. They didnt offer any kind of resolution except our bad. I will never purchase a car from them again.
I was a skeptic of purchasing a vehicle online. I quickly became a fan of carmax. Every step was pretty easy and as advertised. It did take a little longer than purchasing a brand new vehicle. Some of the sales personnel were not well informed but Lubbock is a newer store.The finance people were well informed and I ended up financing through my bank, Because of the lack of knowledge of a certain salesman I have to rate this transaction a 4. Overall the staff is very friendly and the store is clean for as busy as it gets. I would and have recommended Carmax to others.

Very pleased with my car shopping experience at CarMax. No high pressure sales people. Everyone was friendly. It took less than 3 hours from the time I decided to purchase the vehicle till I was driving home in my new (to me) Jeep. I like the no haggle prices. I shopped online for several weeks and found they had the best prices on what I was looking for. Im very pleased with my purchase and not one bit of buyers remorse. Above all the vehicle is in excellent condition mechanically and the interior is in like new condition.

I purchased a car from another similar vendor and has a great experience. My experience with CarMax is not the best. I had a vehicle transferred to Lubbock and the car wreaked of cigarette smoke. I do not smoke and cannot stand the smell. I needed a vehicle ASAP and found one I felt good about getting. After a week, I noticed blue smoke coming from the exhaust. I called to have it looked at and was told they could not get me in for two weeks which means that I cannot return the car if it turns out to be a bad deal. I had hoped CarMax took the time to be sure they sell quality vehicles instead of being like every other dealership. I will not recommend them to anyone.

I had the best buying experience through CarMax. From the online search to driving off the lot. I ordered a truck to be delivered to the Lubbock store, I was approved for financing over the phone. I made an appointment to test drive the truck, went in and took my test drive loved the truck and began the purchase process in total it only took less than 2 hours to complete. Dylan my sales person was fabulous and the manager at the time, I don’t remember her name, was very friendly. I would highly recommend CaxMax. Thank you for such a great experience in purchasing a vehicle.
Got our initial appraisal online and set up our appointment not knowing what to expect after reading a few reviews we didn’t get our hopes up. But upon arrival we were greeted by Cayse, who made the entire process so smooth and so simple. We were given more than the online appraisal had offered so I would say it was pretty accurate. I would most definitely go back and do business with them again!
I sold my Jeep to CarMax this week. The offer was higher than others I received, that isnt my complaint. It took my 1.5 hours to do the paperwork for the sale. The person assisting me had no clue what he was doing and no one stepped in to assist him. I asked him to let me know when we were almost finished so the other person on the title could run over from work to sign off on their portion. He told me to go ahead and have that person come, it would be just a few more steps. My person missed a crucial meeting because those few steps took 45 minutes, just to sign 4 papers. The facility is all clean and sparkly, but there is absolutely no privacy and for those of us who are hearing impaired, there is way too much noise to hear what we are being told. I had already had the car appraised at a different appointment and expected this one to take 30 minutes. I am not sure the extra $500 was worth the irritation.
Excellent experience — took the car in, it was examined and an offer was made in less than half an hour. The amount was toward the low end of the Kelley’s Blue Book value, but not unreasonably so. We accepted the offer and were done in another half hour. Everyone was friendly and polite and made for a positive experience.
Not great! the process was long, after about 2 weeks of trying finally got the paperwork done, originally wanted to only sell and bank was not called as said. the car we purchased is already in the shop, has not even been 30 days and the alternator went out, which I understand something happening with a car is unpredictable, but left a message for service and never got a call back. ended up taking to Nissan McGavock where quite honestly is where I should have left my business. Will not return to carmax
Experience was ok still got a car. The car salesman I had could of had a better attitude. If it wasn’t the fact that I got a decent deal with the creditors they had I would have went somewhere else. Car is in pretty good shape too, one star due to the salesman I had at the Lubbock location. Me personally salesmen make a difference. Thanks, to the manager an older lady who gave me my personal paperwork back after he forgot to return the paperwork back to me when the store had already closed and I realized it wasn’t in the folder of signed agreements after I got home.
We had a good experience dealing with the employees and their inventory was great! The only problem we had was we had to have our vehicle worked on right after we got it. But CarMax was true to their word in taking care of the work being done and paying for it! We highly recommend them!

If you are very specific on what you want in a used vehicle Carmax makes it very easy to search vehicles nationwide. We found a Jeep in Pennsylvania that had everything we wanted for a great deal even with the transfer fee. A major dealership here in Lubbock told us what we were looking for was too specific and practically impossible to find especially for that price. When we told the salesman we had found one through Carmax for that vehicle he handed us our keys back and said sorry they couldnt help us haha! Daniel made the process very smooth and helped us trade in our SUV for the new Jeep and answered all of our questions. Ask for Daniel if he is there and you will have a good experience

The staff was really friendly but the ones that I dealt with seem really under experienced. They were always going to someone else to get help. Which took the process longer than it should be. However, my biggest concern was not being informed about where my vehicle was. I was under the impression that I would be kept updated as to when my vehicle was shipped and when it would arrive to the Lubbock store. I had emailed the store 3 times to see where it was and never got any response. I finally went up there in person to find out what was going on. When I did they told me my vehicle was on the lot. When I asked when it had come on I was told it had arrived the day before but no one had contacted me. Then when I went to test dive it I asked again when did it arrive and I was told a week ago. When I researched the vehicle it said it had a smart key. When I asked two different people about it neither one knew. They said it was for opening the back lift door. Which I knew better because I had researched it. Finally the manager came over and said that I was right, it didn’t come with a smart key feature. However, even though it advertised that it came with a smart key they wouldn’t come off the price. A little disappointed but I purchased the vehicle anyway. No one from CM ever got back to me on my review. Sad.

We had been looking at used and new cars and tried on a fair number, enough to know what we wanted. We found one online that looked really good and had a clean history. We asked that the car be transferred to the dealership where we live and we were contacted by a person who was in another state that coordinated the entire process and let us know each step of the way what to expect. We had a mid-afternoon appointment to test drive the vehicle and found it to be consistent with what we saw online. However by the time we had committed to purchasing the car, the bank where we had pre-arranged financing had closed. We made an appointment to complete the deal for Monday, but the salesman we had previously talked with was not in the dealership that day. Another sales associate worked through the documents with us and made sure we were satisfied with the car we were buying. We are quite pleased with both the process and the vehicle. Would I buy another car through CarMax -- yes. With our history of buying cars, it doesnt happen very frequently, so I will just hope CarMax is still in business in about 20 years when I get ready to buy another car.

Well to my surprise this location seems to be extremely busy that they only have one mechanic in this store. Seriously?! So I listened to the gentleman giving me the excuses of this and that and of why.... From out of town and I purchased my vehicle from another location out of state. Have a great warranty but oblivious this location didnt want to help out. Ill be sure not to stop at this location. I say beware especially if its first thing in the morning.

Worst customer service EVER. Back story bought my car in Loveland and am going to be in Texas for a month or more so opted to do coveted repair in Lubbock. I took car in on a Tuesday to have dent taken out. I was told if it involved having to repaint quarter panel it would be early the following week before I got car back. I also was having another concern looked at. I was called on Friday and told they were donee paint and tech would drive and look for my issue Monday. I called Monday -at 2 because I haven’t heard as promised. I was told he just got back from 2nd test drive and couldn’t find issue. Great no issue. I told him I would pick up before close that day. I got to dealership 1/2 before close, both people behind desk were very curt and barely spoke and women had to ask how to handle my paperwork, man who was not visually doing anything briefly told her and I waited. There was no explanation of what was done to my car nor were more than 10 words spoken to me. I went to my car and it hadn’t been washed, so obviously car was not painted pin striping was same as before, aged, my back seats had been put back up, they were laying down at drop off and items in the back of my car had been moved around. They had no reason what so ever to be in the back of my car!!!

Had a vehicle shipped from California for a test drive, the vehicle was very dirty and had a wet dog smell to it. staff is not very helpful and forget trying to call and get any help they never return calls. Taking my business elsewhere

I did 90 percent of my shopping for a car online. I originally went with Carvana but their delivery times were way too long. I decided to check out Carmax due to them having a local inventory. I picked my car online and went to pick it up the next day. When I arrived I was met by Matt. Matt was really nice and made us feel welcomed. Matt brought the car we picked out around and after a test drive we decided we did not like it. Matt helped us find two other vehicles that were in our budget and that would fit our needs. We fell in love with the second car and Matt got us all squared away and gave us all the info we needed and included us in every aspect of purchasing the car. I highly recommend Carmax in Lubbock and as a business in general.

CarMax made buying a car so easy! After much research, I knew their price was fair and it was nice not having to get the run-around from a car salesman. I found my car at a location that wasnt close to me, so it was great that CarMax put the car on hold and transported it to a closer location. I was able to thoroughly look the car over, test drive it, and ask questions before the purchase. I really appreciate their 7 day return policy and the car history report that is provided. I would highly recommend CarMax.

Car was exactly what I was expecting! Transfer time wasn’t bad at all. Only thing I would have liked was to be able to test drive it before purchase! Car got here then took the 2 hr drive to check it out and couldn’t drive it. They failed to mention I needed full coverage insurance. I only carried liability on my others cars as they were old.
Honestly within the first week the car already started having problems it has to get a turbo conditioning they should look at the cars a little bit more and service them correctly but other than that everything else was great

Make sure you bring the original POA or you have to deal with the manager Karen inconveniencing you and your already desperate family when their call center failed to mention they would need the original POA to sell a car to pay bills. Horrible experience all around.
I had a great experience at CarMax and would use again if I ever need another car. I will also recommend them to others looking for a vehicle. The girl who called to set up financing and get my personal info, Lisa, was super-awesome and the girl who actually completed my transaction at the store was very good, too. Very impressed with NO pressure for anything during buying process! So why not 5-stars? I found exactly what I had been looking for, a V6 Rav4. After comparing prices it was somewhat more pricey than other listings considering minimally high miles but it had every option under the sun. So, even though I might have found another similar vehicle for a lower price I don’t feel ripped off and am happy with my purchase. I believe they have quality vehicles, also. Give ‘em a try, bet you’ll be happy!

If I could give this dealership zero stars I would. We bought a car from the Arlington store last year and everything went great. Our experience with the people at the Lubbock store was the polar opposite. First of all the salesman had us call him Chris, but by the time we were dealing with his manager his name changed to Andrew, so right there something is shady. What everyone thinks of used car salesmen...that epitomizes the people at the Lubbock store. If you can go to another Carmax don’t shop at Lubbock. If you have to shop at Lubbock know these are the most crooked people and deal with them accordingly. If you see Chris/Andrew walking toward you run away, don’t walk. Seriously, save yourself and don’t waste time with Chris/Andrew and the Lubbock store.
This is the 3rd vehicle I have purchased from a Carmax in the past 12 years. I was so happy when the facility here in Lubbock opened here.It is so quick and easy, I am surprised not everyone buys preowned vehicles from them.
Misrepresented themselves and lied about being approved by the corporate employee only to be told no by the local store employee saying the bank wouldnt approve even after the application was approved for financing. Warning, dont apply here if you work for a delivery service, they will not approve either!
I have always bought my cars at CarMax and have always loved their customer service. This is my 3rd car from CarMax but my first time buying from CarMax Lubbock. The salesperson was GREAT and I would give 5 stars if I was just rating her. However, when I received my car at the end of the deal, the car was dirty with trash (Straws/ketchup packs/napkins) in the seat pockets, glove Compartment and center console. The cup holders were dirty with spots/stains that I simply cleaned with water. The previous owners info was in the glove compartment with their address and car maintenance info. There was no windshield wiper fluid and I’m taking it in for an oil change as there was very little engine oil - mind you, I just bought the car 2 weeks ago. I don’t know who is supposed to Prep the cars for new owners, but this was a big fail in the maintenance department. I hope if you decide to purchase, that you get an all around great service and not a halfway attempt to make a sale.
Carmax has the worst customer service. I always have trouble getting them on the phone. Then they never have time to help with anything. They sell cars that break down and are way under the value that they ask for.DO NOT BUY FROM CARMAX

We bought a car last year from the Carmax at Arlington and those guys were AWESOME. We tried to deal with Chris/Andrew at the Lubbock store and walked away. He had us call him Chris and then changed his name to Andrew so it’s hard to say who to avoid. Just go to another store. Everything everyone thinks about used car salesmen...that’s Chris/Andrew and the Lubbock store. Go anywhere else.
Every part of this experience went well for me. CarMax even stepped up to get us over the hump of minor challenges. My daughter recently moved from Texas to Chicago. She decided not to take her car, so she asked me to sell Rosie for her. From the moment I walked in the door, the CarMax staff helped make this process work well. The methodology was smooth. The gathered info on the car and sent it into the main office. When the offer came back, it was exactly the amount I was hoping to get for the car. It was a fair price; they will make a profit when they sell this car, but they were also respectful of my need to receive a fair price. I appreciate being treated with respect this way. The problem I mentioned? They needed some papers signed by my daughter in Chicago. They FedEx’ed papers to her overnight and included a return envelope. We ended up having to send things back and forth twice - no problem! Next car buying or selling experience in my future, I’ll be going back to CarMax!
I looked around for a long time for a Toyota 4Runner that would fit my budget and had everything I wanted.I am in the military stationed in new Mexico but had to go to the Lubbock office as it was the closest one.I had the vehicle shipped prior to the pandemic and worked very closely with the Lubbock office to set up a way to trade in my old car to get the 4 runner. Because I am in the military, I have more strict travel guidance to follow and the Lubbock office worked very hard to ensure I’d be able to make my deal happen. Not only did we get an amazing offer on our trade in, but we were able to drive out of CarMax in our new/pre-owned 4 runner. As this seems very normal, the excelent customer service doesn’t stop there. As we fast forward a couple of months, it was quite a wait for a New Mexico DMV appointment we booked it as soon as we could get it was still 2 almost 3 months after we got our vehicle. This appoint did not go well because the motor vehicle department (MVD) in our location was and still is misinterpreting the New Mexico Excise Tax code and wanted to charge an absorbent amount of more money then what the Excise Tax required.I tried to contact many other MVD in New Mexico but no one picked up, I reached out to the Tax office and no help as they said I would have to file a protest.With all my options being exhausted, I reached back to the Lubbock office and spoke with Kyle about my situation. In less than a week he had a solution for me and I am now able to have my vehicle legally registered. The professionalism and customer service driven performance of CarMax will definitely have me come back!! 5 Stars!!

They simplify it for you, yet make certain that all the necessary things are done right, both for you and for CarMax. Once we accepted their offer via email, then we agreed to meet the next day at CarMax. We both showed up and they looked over the vehicle, test drove it around the block, and comfirmed our price again. Then we signed a few papers like for the title transfer, and they gave us the check to buy the vehicle, and we were done and back home - all in a short while. They are who they claim to be - honest, fair, helpful, and knowledgeable.
