One of my favorite places to get coffee. They import coffee from select growers and roast it in-house. They have a great selection of drinks and you can purchase bags of coffee to make at home. They deliver and you can purchase from their website. No dine-in seating buy outdoor tables are available. Staff is very friendly and helpful. There is no parking lot but theres is plenty of street parking.
¿Que es un Cafe de Leche? Not too many people know the story behind this cafe. The story behind this originated from Mama Rosa who every time she has breakfast she would ask her kids to pass her coffee and hence the name of this coffee shop. This coffee shop is family owned and operated. They have other location in Altadena. I have lived in HP and this small, cute coffee shop is very popular among locals. Interior vibe was very relaxing and chill. Decor was cute. I ordered their hibiscus lemonade (16 oz) and it’s was refreshing and fruity. And I like it! Staff was friendly and welcoming. Street parking only. Overall, I had a good order experience. I highly recommend this local coffee shop.
My sister and I like to try new coffee locations and this place was definitely a place we would definitely go back to. Employees here are welcoming and friendly.
You are the best among the rest! What I like about this coffee shop is that they really got my taste when it comes to coffee and pastries. It is not that sweet, and that is perfect. You deserve to be known by many! Expect me to recommend your service to all my colleagues and went here once again. Thank you!
The entire visit to this coffee shop was excellent! The service was amazing and my waiter was very accommodating to the language barrier. He recommended the amazing burger salad and of course dessert was perfect. The atmosphere is elegant and inviting. I honestly cant think of a single negative. I will definitely recommend this coffee shop to all coffee lovers!
Just great foods with great people! I love everything here in this cafeteria, foods, desserts, beverages, you named it, they have it all. Also, the service was really extraordinary, and I would like to commend their staff for making it happen. These guys truly are the best because of its amazing foods and service. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!
I had a great time! The coffee was excellent, as was the service and atmosphere. The artwork and scenery were lovely, and my hot coffee was just what I needed for the evening! I intend to return frequently!
Pretty good crossaints and very tasty coffee, although the plain brew was naturally sweet and not very bitter so it depends on what you fancy.
I was feeling delighted when I came here yesterday. I like your staves because they were so accommodating and courteous. For me, you are the best coffee shop here in our place. You keep up the excellent and fast service, guys! Thank you so much! Cheers for more clients!
I love this little cafe! I grab coffee and pastry on my way to work 2 or 3 times a week. The staff are always really kind and quick, its the perfect place to start the day.
One of the first on york, themed and unique coffees if that is to your liking
The shop is more than just a coffee shop. It has good coffee and pastries. The staff, the food, the place are all first class. Prices are reasonable as well. They offer a variety of delicious drinks on top of an already satisfying menu. The atmosphere is light and very conducive for productive tasks. Highly recommended!
Cafe de Leche is well-located on York St. with an upbeat vibe, friendly staff, and great coffee drink options. My favorite espresso cocktail is the cortado, so upon moving-in down the street I immediately put theirs to the test. Not only is it delicious, it’s far from the most delicious espresso item on the menu! Cafe de Leche also has their own bean roasting program which they share with Rock Coffee in nearby Eagle Rock. Thus, it’s no wonder Highland Park locals and visitors alike flock here to enjoy a warm cup, lively conversation, and exciting people watching ;)
Yesterday, my boyfriend and I went to this coffee shop to catch up sometime, and we just love the taste of their coffee. It was freshly brewed. The barista was so energetic and know everything that hes doing. Also, the place was so relaxing and quiet. We will surely recommend this coffee shop to everyone.
Great little spot. Very small with limited seating and tables. Otherwise, super chill and cozy spot. Good music plays at a reasonable volume. The staff is very friendly and helpful. A bit pricey for coffee and small bites, but worth it since I can walk here from where I live. So glad this place opened up in this area. Will definitely be a regular!!
The place was so nice and relaxing. I tried black coffee and bread. The coffee was great. The bread is soft and fluffy kind, and theres also toasted and flaky type bread, but its still tasty. I highly recommend this place.
This coffee shop really has the best coffee thats best for me! Every time I come around here, the staffs are very polite and even greeted me enthusiastically. The coffee was good, and thanks to this barista, who does it very well. For me, this would be the best coffee shop ever. Strongly recommended!
I havent waited over 10mins at a boba joint since forever ago but for this place I would. The drive-thru is faster than going in but I went in to wait anyways (line was out the door). Ive been multiple times by now & have NOT been disappointed by their drinks.
Cute little coffee shop.
A very pretty coffee shop in downtown! This coffee shop has been in this area for a quiet long time. The locals love their coffees, pies, and cakes. They had also brunch in which tastes so good. The place has a great ambiance. It was so relaxing and calming. The barista was so polite and pleasant to talk with.
Love the agave latte! Im an early bird though and wish they opened earlier, hence I dont go much! 🐦🌅
We just moved to the area and have been scouting coffee spots to make our daily morning stop. As with most trendy spots in LA, there’s a new coffee shop popping up every few weeks. But this place is one you shouldn’t miss! The coffee is amazing, and their food items are a quality add. They offer alternative milk options at no extra cost, and have a full lineup of options aside from the typical coffee house staples.Needless to say, this is now our daily stop, and I strongly recommend to others to make it theirs as well.
Excellent house roasted coffee, skilfully prepared by good people in a nice setting. Seriously, who could want more than that? I think I spend more money here than on groceries
Great coffee and a popular place to meet with friends for a quick drink.
Please coffee shop.
We are from the Seattle area and Cafe de Leche has some of the best coffee and food in Los Angeles. We came here for the first time three years ago and made it our favorite breakfast spot in the area. The folks that run it and their staff are wonderful, and their espresso roast from Peerless coffee is some of the best espresso I have ever had and I have had espresso in a bunch of cities and countries.
Neighborhood pioneer still going strong. I have been a loyal customer since it opened and always go there first after a long time away. Stumptown coffee perfect and the almond lattes are actually hot. Music good and staff better.
Its a small cafe close to Occidental College. Lot of customers are from the college. Some are neighbors. Good environment in general! I love their pastries and tea. They are different to someone whos used to big chain store. One of the stuff recommended local honey when I felt like dying from seasonal allergies. It worked magically! So Im grateful forever to her.
Now I normally make fun of the hipster spend all day at cafes sipping coffee and working on my laptop scene, but this cafe makes me understand why they like it. I havent had the coffee but am told its good, I can recommend the ice tea and lemonades. The have a variety of pastries and bagels that come with vegan cream cheese which are quite tasty. Its a little pricey so I wouldnt visit every day but going once in awhile to chat with some friends is quite nice.
The dirty chai chata is delicious!! (not sure thats the correct name)
VERY good 👌 I had the chai chata with almond milk
Matt is a scholar and a gentleman and gave me the time to explain the process of coffee roasting. I never drink black coffee and actually didnt need cream or sugar. Incredible coffee and service. Come here for coffee the way it was meant to be brewed.
Really great coffee if you want a good cup of coffee go to this place
I like their online ordering.
Unusually friendly barista service and an excellent variety of coffee styles are the main reasons I recommend this coffee shop.
Cool spot to get a good cup of coffee, great customer service.
Matcha latte with hemp milk. Hemp milk was good but lots of matcha unmixed in bottom
A big Thank you Cafe de Leche, for so much help and attentive. I recommend them as a really friendly and helpful cafe, also as an artist venue.Colin who works there was super nice and was very helpful and I sure appreciated his help.My art will be up for a month, please drop by to see it and have a cup of coffee.
Awesome local coffee shop, great place to hang out and get some work done, although there are not many seats. The Horchata Latté is exceptional. There is not a huge selection of things to eat, fret not, because this is a great place to stop in for a great drink and there are many great local eateries around. Be sure to check out this great coffee shop and neighborhood before its fully gentrified!
Been here twice....1st time the girl behind the counter acted like she hated working there....no customer service skills at all....so I figuered maybe she was having a bad day....went a second time...different girl...same thing...acted as if she was doing me a favor for serving me....will never go back...bagel was fair..
I went to this cafe because they have hemp milk (very rare in coffee shops) and their drinks exceeded my expectations by a long shot! The flavors in their lattes are so delicious and even though they used dairy-free (vegan) milk in my drink it was really frothy and creamy. Ive been craving a latte from them ever since!
The neighborhood coffeeshop and roaster thats been around for over a decade. Not only that but coffee they source is based on relationships and you can tell they care about their customers too. Looking forward to making this our neighborhood coffeeshop!
Stopped in because we were touring film locations and the outside of this shop was used in the filming of Reservoir Dogs. We got a couple of iced coffees and they were quite watery. The place was busy midday on a Wednesday with all the seats taken. They do have a cute little play area for kids.
Get the horchata late its very tasty!
The place is great and all. The people there are nice and the servers are fast. But i just dont like the coffee.
Best coffee shop on York. Consistently good. Can sometimes take a bit but Ive never gotten frustrated. Really nice team of baristas. Only downside is other people know its good too so it can get crowded. I dont need you and your annoying children smh. Anyway great coffee.
Coffee was good, pastries were good, service was quick. I had a 5 star experience with the cafe, but I was rather surprised at how rude many other customers were to both the staff and each other. Didnt particularly make me want to come back.
Excellent coffee and tea, comfortable atmosphere, interesting music that didnt intrude on conversation. The young woman who waited on us was helpful above and beyond expectations.
Good coffee, and for those lactose intolerant people, free almond milk!! Although there are plenty of seats, this place gets pretty packed. Learn to make new friends and join a table with random coffee drinkers!
I tried their popular horchata espresso, which was good. However, it just tasted like a very good iced cappuccino. The horchata taste doesnt stand out entirely to make this drink unique or worth $4.50.The art displayed inside was really great, however. I enjoyed the current artist being displayed (I came in this past weekend for your reference).
Great neighborhood coffee place, fits just right in Highland Park, this part of town is changing very rapidly due to gentrification, but Cafe De Leche is still the same, so glad about that...
Worst coffee shop ever, regular coffee taste horrible, wifi doesnt work either. Thisbis my first and last time to visited this place.
This place has lost a lot of what made it special. Afternoon baristas seem like they dont want to be there, drink quality is inconsistent, and the physical cafe seems darker than what I remember. Still would go there for the fact that they serve Stumptown coffee.
Great space for getting work done -- lots of small tables, and built-in outlets in the bench seating (BRILLIANT!).
I love their horchata latte. The breads are good too but a bit pricey. I will continue to support this local businesd
I used to live down the street and miss my morning walks to this little coffee shop....love their coffee!
Best coffee in Los Angeles, quiet atmosphere. Waiter was very polite to us.
Great coffee and pastries. Staff is always friendly. Clean bathrooms, plenty of seating.
My daughter loves the oat chocolate milk...
Bare bones establishment, but the coffee is off the charts AWESOME!
Chill spot. Good coffee and pastries. Free WiFi and its galore.
Aesthetically pleasing decor. Simplistic menu, literally right on the counter. Gender-neutral, clean, stocked restroom. Live succulents line the outside windowsill. High ceilings add to the size of the coffee shop.I ordered their popular item Horchata con Expresso w/ hemp milk (because Hipsterville) & a slice of banana bread. My drink was hot & newly made, just how I like it, banana bread was kept at room temperature which was perfect. It was also soft, moist, I could tell it was also prepared quite fresh. Music was okay. Crowd was mostly locals: some parents with 2 year olds (even the kiddos were little mini hipsters!), exercising early birds, or maybe latenight owls that have sort of carried over to say hi to the morning autumn sun. Service was quick, considering it was only two lady staff members who were manning the shop. #Goodstuff
Best iced chai Ive ever had and super nice staff
Good local coffee shop, the horchata con espresso is a good option. Only complaint is that they close pretty early, and do a lot of filming there (Maria Bamford and Marc Maron).
Great coffee spot on York. This place is one of my go tos for coffee on the weekend.
Great coffee and pastries in my favorite part of the town.
Always great to find a local roaster 👍♨
Its good, but its usually full and kinda pricey.
Very comfortable space, warm friendly staff, art exhibition space & cafe
Its a quiet place where to spend some time speaking, reading... the coffee is in my opinion not good.
This place is like a get-together for hipsters. Anytime of day youll see them sitting down with their macs and vintage clothing taking up tables and leaving you to sit outside.Since I dont dress that way I feel like im given subpar service. Also the drinks are inconsistent with quality and taste. One day itll be strong, the next itll be bitter or too sweet. I avoid this place but since its so close to the York Park where I take my kid, sometimes I settle. Also, why do they close so early? York Blvd is alive well after 7PM, but there are other coffee shops in the area, so im not losing much.
Super cute spot, the agave late is perfect
The atmosphere is usually calm here; friendly baristas, the music that plays depends on the baristas so its nice to hear new different tracks. Expect people to stay for long periods of time working on their laptops, so you might wanna save a seat before you order because i can get full in no time. Free wifi, hence the laptops (except on no wifi weekends).FYIThere are no blended Frappuccino styled beverages. If thats what youre looking for on those hot sweet-tooth craving days. They have the standard coffee drinks but are well known for specialty drinks such as the infamous Horchata con espresso, Agave Latte, Mexican Mocha Latte, as well as a few others. Drinks dont take that long to prepare unless theres a rush. The prices are reasonable and surprisingly not as expensive as other hip coffee shops around.
Coffee did not wow me and the service was ok. However, if I am around there again I will give them another shot.
Wow. Who are writing these reviews? Hipsters from Silverlake? Stuck up Oxy students? I dont know, but I love this place. I have lived in Highland Park for almost 10 years. We never used to have ANY coffee shops. This place is a god send. They bring in fresh Portos pastries every morning, so delicious! Their coffee is good. I admit sometimes they can be a bit slow, but its not Starbucks, chill out people. This is a great little local place. I love walking my dogs here on the weekends, sitting outside and enjoying a delicious spinach and cheese croissant and coffee. Ive met the owners and they are super nice. They let people in the community put out their flyers or posters on the window. They are such an asset to the neighborhood. Haters gonna hate, this place is great ;-)
Nice place but no Wi-Fi Sat/Sun.
Highland Parks cafesitos best.
It ist set and tables enough the customer to stay all day there because of wi-Fi
Their coffee is good ☕️👍🏻
Cafe De Leche is my life. Best coffee ever. Tons of fun people to talk to. Baller baristas and everything else you could want at a coffee shop. If you have never been to Cafe de Leche you are not living your life properly.
The name of this coffee shop appeals to mexicans and spanish culture yet once you step inside, its the complete opposite. This place feels so unwelcoming and Ive lived up the street in Highland Park for 18 years. I went in for an Horchata, it wasnt good. Went back to give it a second chance for ice coffee, it was horrible. Nice and cute place to sit down but Ill never go back there.Id rather go down next door to Highland Park Cafe where the food is overpriced but at least it feels welcoming.
Would get the 5th star if they had decaf espresso in stock. Otherwise, amazing latte, friendly people and good location.
I dont know if its a new thing or not, but they no longer offer wifi on the weekends. They put a cute, 12 sandwich board on the counter announcing that theyre trying to conserve space on the weekends. The sign should be on the front door, because the only reason I was going in there today was to work on some stuff; and yes, that includes Facebooking. Dont you judge me! Also, they serve no real food. They do have a sandwich shop owned by the same people a block away, and allow patrons to buy a sandwich and bring it to the cafe. So, thats what I did: I bought a Cobb salad at the corner, and took it to De Leche, and THATS when I found out they dont have wifi on the weekends. What the sign on the counter offers as alternative is small talk. How cute. This policy might be working for their business, but for me, it was frustrating enough that I wont be back. Im posting this review so you dont waste your time going in there on the weekend, unless you like small talk with baristas, who, if they have time for small talk, are proving how the policy is NOT working. The reason Im giving them a Poor-Fair for food is because the turkey and ham in my salad was cheap, low quality, discount grocery meat. It was slimy and overly chewy, and made the experience that much more frustrating.Ahhhhhhhh! I feel better. You dont know me, but this is serious growth. I didnt type a single swear word or dirty name. The fact that Im writing this instead of yelling it at the baristas, who are only doing what theyre told, is a sign that the meds are working. So. this is as much a positive review for my antidepressants as it is a negative review for Cafe De Leche.
So heres the deal, ignore all the negative comments youre reading on here because they have no idea what theyre talking about and are probably some angsty hipsters who want all the baristas and waiters of the world to treat them like the kings and queens they are definitely not. This place is a good coffee shop, and is a much better choice than the starbucks down the street. The baristas are friendly enough, and if for some reason theyre not with you, so what, you only have to deal with them for 20 seconds. This is a cool place to chill and have a drink while reading or doing some work. The horchata with espresso and the abuelitas mocha are pretty damn good and something you wont find in most other coffee places. If youre in the hood and hankerin for some coffee, go here.
Try the flat bread with feta and dill...so good!
Forget this lame hipster coffe shop bunch of discriminative anglos they give bad service to hispanics and CHICANOS
Solid coffee shop. No frills, good coffee, good space.
Good cap; ok muffin
Laid-back neighborhood spot.
Love the cold brew and horchata.
