Have one word...YUMMMMMM. a little pricey but for a treat once in a while why not? This place was delicious and the stuffed fish word out of this world. If you decide to take some home, warning, they do get a little soggy. If you have a toaster oven put them in there for a minute or two and it toast them right up and they are perfect. Im sure that the oven would do the same thing on broil. Next time Im bringing more home!
I’ve been here a few times and love it. The soft serve and waffle fish are delicious and everything always tastes so good and the waffle fish are always fresh. This was my first time getting the strawberry milk and it was so cute and refreshing. I’ve been here a few times and love the environment. Somi somi makes for a great treat with friends or family!
If you have not already, go run -don’t walk- and try this place! It is incredibly unique and delicious. I had never been here before and didn’t know what to expect. I got the Milk/Ube swirl, along with the Ah-Boong (their waffle cone shaped like a fish), with Nutella filling - and I got it “upside down”. For toppings, I got cotton candy and rainbow sprinkles. Here’s what all that means: They put the soft serve Milk/Ube swirl in a cup, then they ask what toppings you want. After they put on the toppings, they put the cone filling inside the waffle cone so that it’s lining the inside. Then, they put the cone on top upside down, so that it looks like the fish is eating the soft serve. The soft serve is creamy and delicious, and the cotton candy toppings for this flavor is a must-have. The waffle cone on top is warm, soft, and flavorful. I was skeptical about putting Nutella inside, but it really brought all of the flavors together and was an important part.Highly recommend. Exceeded my expectations. 5 stars.
I live for somisomi! The ice cream is similar to Cauldron as far the smoothness and thickness, but they obviously have there own unique flavors. Its a Korean dessert and its delicious! The stye is so fun and creative! They also have other dessert options like Taiyaki! Nutella and cheese are my favs! It was a big hit with my family as well! Also, you get to add filling like Nutella, which make it even more tasty! I also ordered 50 one night, I believe its the location in Irvine. The servers were so professional and fast. They were able to handle everyone else and still get my order out in a timely matter. All with great customer service during a rush!
Didnt get to have any ice cream tonight. We were in line outside... social distancing. An employee came out and said they were closing at 10pm. They told the people directly in front of us that they would be the last ones served. What? The sign says it closed at 11pm!The one in San Diego gets 5 stars with great employees and customer service. Not Irvine.
Awesome take on ice cream! Ive always wanted to try this fish ice cream and Im glad I did. Im not huge on Ice Cream but they had fish shaped pancakes that were filled with your choice of fillings. I got Taro and Nutella and they didnt disappoint! My wife got the upsidedown ice cream with the fish cone on top and with fruity pebbles sprinkled on top. Delicious! I highly recommend going to this place and trying it out. Be forwarned they have a limited selection of ice cream flavors that arent of the usual chocolate, vanilla, strawberry variety. They have flavors like Machta, Ube and Milk tea. So as long as that doesnt frighten you then try it out, i promise it wont disappoint!
Im docking a star because my Taiyaki came out overdone and a little too crisp. The cheddar filling is my favorite.
I had a lovely experience here!! There was only one employee working and he was so attentive and kind. Great customer service!! I believe his name was John but i didnt get a good look at his name tag. He was working on 6/17 around 1pm. I appreciate his hard work esspecially being the only one in store. I also really like how they have us wait outside for our order. I still like to be very cautious about Covid so its nice to see shops are still following saftey procedures even after the restrictions were lifted. And the treat was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend the Nutella or the Red Bean one. Its affordable and yummy!!
The ice cream taiyaki was very good! I got the mango boysenberry swirl one and that was very nice, though it gets really messy when you get towards the end of the cone. Both me and my friend who got one ended up accidentally spilling some of it. I wish they had a couple more topping options, and the presentation could be a little cuter, but taste-wise it was very nice.
Their fish dessert is really good. A little too sweet for my taste, But the texture was perfect.
Soft serve ice cream in a waffle cone. Japanese inspired flavors. I had the mango flavor. Very good.
Its so good and soft serve you can fill it with Nutella and more it comes with a fish filled with Nutella they put on ice cream its so good you need to try it
Soft serve is super creamy and flavorful! I think the taiyakis are the stars of Somi Somi though. When theyre warm, the crunchiness of the shell and the softness of the inside pair for a wonderful experience for the palate.
Employees have zero people skills, only responces are Anything Else!? And Ok.Aside from that, SomiSomi is the definition of incredible soft serve. I am more than satisfied everytime. So yummy!
Good covid precautions. Tasty dessert.
Taiyaki plus soft serve ice cream, turns out its a great match. you can get freshly made taiyaki with a bunch of different fillings, or you can get ice cream. or, you can get a taiyaki with filling *and* ice cream!
Really good! Super busy though. 20 min wait for taiyaki. But about 5 min for ice cream. Ube with red bean paste was pretty good.
Matcha green tea was so good! I wish their pastry machine was working but technical issues prevented the icing on the top for this order.
I’m a matcha ice cream girl that I fall in love with this place right on my first visit. Locating in one of the most crowded food complex in Irvine, Somisomi becomes very popular when its first opening. The 2 standout ice cream flavors:1. Ube & Black Sesame Swirl with Oreo Crumbs2. Matcha Ice CreamGet the ice cream filled in the fish cone with Nutella inside, I guarantee you would love it.
Took half an hour for them to get me my 2 taiyaki. I watched like 25 other people get their orders and leave before me. Finally got it and it was kinda burnt too... Not a great experience.
Definitely worth trying and will go back some day. The ice cream flavours is limited but sufficient and all mix well with each other, including the taiyaki(a Japanese pastry) filling. I chose macha ice cream with taro filling. It wouldve been better if my taiyaki was still warm but it didnt bother me.
Always super busy but they always seem to get the order out timely (5-10 mins). Definitely worth the drive from San Bernardino to out here.
Delicious! One is definitely shareable. Recommend the matcha with oreo crumbs on top and fish cone witb Nutella filling ❤
Located close to the movie theater at the Irvine spectrum Somi-somi soft serve serves the newest California craze; Asian/Japanese inspired soft serve ice cream.Flavors: Ube(taro), Matcha (green tea), Cream (milk), and Sesame (black colored sesame flavored ice cream). Plus, pretty much any mixed version of those flavors. Plus they come in a really cool goldfish cone.I ended up ordering the Ube/sesame mixed flavors. I personally really enjoy taro flavors and sesame flavors, so why not mix them up? However in disappoinment, therw were no hints of either flavor. Matcha green tea actually tastes like Matcha, and the Cream flavor, well that tastes like ice cream.I mean, soft serve ice cream is good no matter what, but the Ube really didnt taste like Ube and black sesame didnt taste as it should either. Maybe they just need to add more of those ingredients to their soft serve at the next go around. If youre in the area you should give them a go and see what you think.
Fun place for fun ice cream!
Fantastic and unique soft serve. The kids will love it.
Finally got to try Somi Somi in Irvine with my partner! They had horchata flavor which isnt in any of the bay area locations weve been to. Their red bean also has a great mouth-feel, would recommend 😏
They have their original somisomi location in los angeles and I don’t know why but the one in LA is much better for some reason. I tried both and I understand it is the same company but not sure why maybe the proportions are better?? I definitely think that the fish cone itself is definitely better in LA though. But if you do not have the luxury to go to LA this is the best/only taiyaki place in the OC to go to
This place Was good! Tried this with my wife and friends it was fun! Soft serve was delicious! Be quick though melts fast! Lol
Well deserve 5 stars !! Somi Somi finally came into OC. I used to drive all the way to Korea town for the amazing not that sweet but sweet enough creamy soft serve ice cream in a crispy fish shaped Japanese style waffle / Taiyaki. They serve Milk, Ube, Matcha and Black Sesame flavors and mixes that are not typical flavors we are used to and they are so creamy with free anything you want toppings. I tried every one of the flavors and they are great. They opened 2 weeks ago and they are still not so perfectly organized and messy of bread crumbs all over but who cares and I understand, why? because there is a line out the door all the time people ordering the ice cream and Taiyaki constantly. The line moves quickly but time to time the line get slows down because of the people who never heard of this ice cream keep asking for samples of this and that. Well, I am sure they will come and order much quickly the next time. The people behind the counter are not so professional but they are friendly and very attentive. If you never tried this creamy soft serve ice cream and Taiyaki, you must come and try, you will not regret it.
Different than usual !
Awesome Japanese softserve ice cream with fish shaped waffles with filling. Six stars.
Great icream.
Was really good
I wanted to share a dessert with my boyfriend after some Christmas shopping and Somisomi hit the spot! They elevate soft-serve-- it aint no Yogurtland, thats for sure!We ordered the ube and milk blend with graham cracker topping, a macaroon, and a Nutella-filled fish cone. 5/5! The ube/milk flavor was light and balanced. The Nutella fish cone was not only delicious, but so fun to eat! I could see kids really enjoying digging into the cone/soft-serve combo. The gentleman who helped us had great customer service skills- he walked me through the process (pick your flavor, pick the cone with the filling, pick the toppings) and made great suggestions. Oreo and matcha are also extremely popular. I cant wait to come back and try the other flavors! Also, COVID pre-cautions were top notch:They provided hand sanitizer at front door, plexiglass screens between patrons and employees, contactless placement, social distancing stickers, and kept the doors open for air flow.
The fish cone here is reallly good and fresh. We tried the ube flavor and it was sweet but not too sweet. I would definitely recommend it. I love that you get toppings with it too and don’t have to pay extra!
Had the ube and taro soft serve sooooo gooood! The fish waffle was yummy with the ice cream!
Decent ice cream. Ive had better. 6.4
Soft waffle ice cream is the new thing now I believe this will be a trend that will last for a while
If youre looking for a creative ice cream shop, look no more. Somisomi combines ice cream with a renowned dessert from the Japanese tradition, taiyaki 鯛焼き (crisp and chewy bread shaped like koi, with red bean or other fillings, also known as Ah-Boong in Korea).First timers should try the matcha flavor, with toppings of your choice (cereal, cookie, strawberry, macaroon). You will be amazed by the combination soft serve with the chewy taiyaki, with a filling of your choice. Traditional matcha goes well with the red bean filling, but the custard and Nutella are also worth trying.Perhaps more than the flavor and creativity, the presentation of each ice cream item is extremely appealing aesthetically. People now have a need to showcase what they eat in online platforms, and Somis excellent presentation is feeding into that need. The menu is very simple. You can choose between a taiyaki and ice cream combination, or the traditional taiyaki. An interesting feature is Somisomis forecast screen which informs customers different swirls (combination of two ice creams in one) for next week. The only downside is the wait time, but given the novelty of this shop, long lines are expected. Somisomi is sure to develop loyal customers if they maintain the quality of their products. A customer loyalty stamp card would be good too, to generate even more regulars.
Somi somi have very yummy soft serve especially their matcha! The fish are very fun to eat and I definitely recommend getting the nutella one 🥰
Yummy soft serve
If this was closer to me I would go here everyday! SOOOO good.
Yummy😋
Being totally genuine my first visit to this place was exceptional, good atmosphere, good vibes, amazing smell, and the food was tasty with nice vibrant colors. But my 2nd trip was just a joke, they gave me the exact opposite of my order and I only got to choose my toppings everything else I said was irrelevant. Not the best experience. Plus if you plan on coming here, expect a wait.
So Yummy 😋 !
Dig the Matcha ice cream and fish things.
Good taste they put 2 thing together too make this food taste better than before
I like this place. The soft serve is very soft but not that melty. Flavors are mild. Very Asian. The fish are tasty too. Like a soft cone! Nice addition to Irvine Spectrum.
Best ice cream
Love the taiyaki there! Really crispy! I would recommend the custard one for sweeter flavoring the goes well with the breading. Red bean is not as sweet compared to the custard. There are seating outside and plenty of parking in the structure.
The icecream is way way way way too sweet after the first bite I was done. I was actually super excited to try out because of all the reviews and the fact that I love soft serve but I was very disappointed the cookies and cream tasted like sweet mud but nothing like cookies. I would not recommend it. Their target market is teenagers and little kids
Sooo good 😍 and bonus points for being extra sanitary during COVID
The place is really nice.. Though hidden in a corner. The staff is also friendly. This is first time I tried teriyakis.. they were really good. I wish they had one only with red beans. But it is small and sweet.
Dont let the line out the door deter you from ordering one of these very unique and tasty treats. There are lots of unusual base flavors to choose from and they will definitely let you sample them first. Service was friendly even while tending to the crowds.
The young girl at the counter was just rude as can be I also work in food service and hospitality, it wasn’t appreciated since it was my first time there it was 5:48pm on a Sunday mostly families .. I wonder how many others felt this way ...I left a pretty nice gratuity regardless since I appreciate the other employees making my ice cream, other employees were very nice and the matcha ice cream was to die for!!! But she should have been way more friendlier! I will return just for the product..maybe it was just me?
Great place for fun soft serve, I never knew how badly I needed Milk Tea soft serve in my life!
Great dessert spot at Spectrum. All of the ice cream flavors are great. Would definitely recommend the Taiyaki as well!
You can always get your order within 5 min and they provide the best services I have ever received among most ice cream shop. Plus the Ube&milktea swirling is really tasty!
This is place is a must!!! My favorite flavor is taro because you can actually taste the taro flavor, unlike other places. Ive been to similar places that make ice cream with nitrogen but the consistency of the ice cream isnt as creamy and smooth like the one here. It is pricey for ice cream, but definitely well worth it.
Really busy ...🙄
Its good, kinda unique, but be aware that melting happens... quickly with soft serve frozen desserts. So no matter what you order, get a cup too and napkins. Oh, and the Nutella fish is ++ but as a cone, its soggy and Id pass.
So tasty! The flavors are great, love all of the options. The staff are super friendly and quick. Such a great treat.
Most disappointing service, they made me wait in the parking and then they deliver the order wrongly. After claimed it, they made me do line in the drive thru (almost an hour). I will never come back again...!!!
Hard to not like this place, fun looking food goes well with ice cream. Would be nice if they added coffee flavor too
