I never leave reviews about anyting but this....! I called this coffee shop to get an email address just to send my resume to. The woman who answered was very rude. She said that they werent hiring and I said, thats fine I would still like to submit my resume so you could keep it on file in case anything changes in the future, she shot down my request, said they were a very small shop, said she had a customer and hung up on me. Frankly, Im glad she did that because I wouldnt want to work with someone like that. awful service I give them zero Stars!11/1/21: Well as you can see she has replied and with a vengeance and with a very far fetched recollection of what happened, IN REALITY! Apparently I am lazy (this lady doesnt even know me), she never said a word about Parsleys (liar), I was never told to go to a website- just got a straight shut down when I asked if there was an email I could send a resume to. I dont know what she is talking about in her last insane point that she felt she had to make regarding, such papers? I dont know what that means. I wasnt that persistent, really couldnt be, she was as her reply to this review, mean and nasty. I asked one time (again) after her rejection the first time, but was interrupted and conversation was done. She was just rude. Her whole approach in defending herself says it all. Bottom line is you dont treat people like that, I would hate to work with her. Im not surprised that this was how she handled a bad review, nor do I care. Unprofessional, rude and a little psychotic. I need help? Honey its you that needs the help. LOL

I have never posted a review of anything, but my experience was so poor that I felt the need to warn others. Local Mocha Coffee sits right next to another coffee shop (Madcap Coffee; which I love and would highly recommend). Because of their proximity to each other, both cafes have tables and chairs outside in the exact same area.I had gone downtown to grab some coffee and do homework. At the time I arrived, I sat at an available table which happened to be a Local Mocha Coffee table. I noticed that the other customers around me were sitting at both sets of tables/chairs with coffees/beverages from both establishments, so I honestly did not think much about my seating choice. I did purchase coffee from Madcap and not Local Mocha Coffee. Truthfully, I planned to be there so long that I figured I would purchase drinks from both places to support both local businesses. I just happened to choose Madcap first. I kept to myself as customers would sit, enjoy their beverages, and filter in and out. Eventually, there was a lull in the business of both places and I was the only customer left sitting outside at the time. I was listening to a lecture on my computer when an employee (I assume a manager but I am unsure) approached me from behind, startled me and started speaking to me. Because I was listening to something, I did not hear what he originally said, so I removed my headphones, apologized that I did not initially hear him and asked him to repeat himself. He proceeded to yell at me for sitting at his table with the competitions coffee. I told him that I meant no harm, I hadnt thought anything of it and I apologized profusely. I do not like aggression or confrontation (I avoid it so much in fact that I had received the wrong coffee from Madcap and didnt have the heart to bring it to their attention) and I am known for being relentlessly apologetic. When he continued to yell at me and after I had apologized several times, he moved so close to me, got in my face and tried to intimidate me. I have never felt more unsafe by someone in the restaurant industry before. I told him I would be happy to move to a table designated for Madcap, that I truly meant him no disrespect and that I would move right away. I began packing up my stuff and he stood over me and watched me pack until I had all of my stuff ready to move. I had to move the table I was sitting at away from him just to squeeze past him because he was so close to me.I have previous experience in the restaurant industry and I realize that this circumstance was uncomfortable for him to address. I completely understand how it looked that I was sitting at his establishments table with a competitors product. If it were the other way around, it would bother me as well. However, the employee who harassed and yelled at me (instead of having a mature adult conversation about the circumstance) addressed me in a manner that was completely uncalled for. He could have handled it in almost any other way that would have been better than the confrontation he chose. Please do not support this establishment until they can employ better workers to properly handle uncomfortable situations. I am so disappointed with how this situation was handled and I will be extremely reluctant to ever support this business in the future.

I went with two of my friends to do an adventure challenge (a book of scratch off adventures). We were to order random coffee drinks and try guess which drink they were from the menu. We chose this coffee shop because they had multiple differnt flavored drinks. My friend waited in line while me and our other friend went to find a bathroom. She told the lady making drinks what we were up to and that we would like 3 random drinks. No complicated requests, just whatever she felt like making us. She told my friend that she didnt have time for this. She REFUSED to serve her. It was a very disappointing experience and we cant help but feel it was because our friend was wearing a pride rainbow hat, with the Christian music playing in the background.I sure hope we are wrong in speculating that it was discrimination. But despite the reasoning, why would any business treat someone this way if they want their business to succeed? I hope anyone reading this review will consider not supporting this business. And if this is a Christian business, I hope they take time to consider how they make people feel, because if I wasnt a Christian myself, I would never choose Jesus based on how they represent.

I’ve been staying in town for a couple weeks, visiting. I can’t get enough of this place! It’s been an overall amazing experience each and everytime. The food is delicious. The drinks are made with love! The owners are very kind and beautiful people! I’ve been there every single day for the past 10 days and honestly the highlight of my trip was visiting this local coffee shop. I wish i could give them 10 stars but i guess 5 will do.

Awful, awful experience. Lady from the counter was washing dishes as we walked in and didn’t wash her hands after making our coffee. So I ordered a Chai latte, spices were WAY off, tasted very stale. She pulled it out of a jar, who knows how long the spices have been sitting there. I asked for a different drink and the lady refused to change it. She stated it’s her specialty mix spices, everyone loves it. Well clearly I did not. She didn’t care. Customer service was awful, did not feel welcomed the lady behind us noticed how rude the lady serving us was and ended up leaving. I wouldn’t support this place! Defiantly go nextdoor to Madcap for good Fresh coffee.

Nice little homey spot in downtown. Went in and the person working the cafe was chatting with some obvious regulars, sharing details about family history etc. It was really nice. The coffee was good - lots of options AND they have soy milk and almond milk for non-dairy folks which madcap does not have. I would go back. 4/5 because its a little dark inside and could use a bit of sprucing up, but if youre doing take-out that wont matter.

I had a long day at a festival and it was time to go. I walked down the street a bit to find a business so I could have an address to use when I call to get a cab. I found Local Mocha. I have been there before and I figured that is a good place as any. While I was there I could get a nice treat or maybe some coffee. My plan was get the address and as I waited enjoy a beverage or baked good (maybe both, why not?). I walked into the store and found who I figured was the owner. It was an older man and he was I am guessing washing some dishes. I asked permission to be in the store as I waited for a taxi. He became very rude and asked why I would wait in a business. I was caught off guard. Most businesses welcome people into the store if the person feels it is safer to be in there verses outside. I said it is safer. He snapped at me that there is nothing wrong with the downtown. That is fine if he dont want me to wait in his store but he didnt need to be rude about it. The tone was very unwelcoming and how he worded things were not great either. A simple I rather you not wait here. would be great with a much politer tone.Sir, I will not return to your store again. I saw as I walked down the street another coffee shop I also have been to and I found it to be a nice place. You lost a customer today. I think a person in your store waiting a few moments for a taxi is not a big deal. As stated earlier I was planning on enjoying a product as I waited.

Awful experience when visiting with my girlfriends this afternoon. While waiting for our other friend we went to the seats in the back corner so I could nurse my 2 month old somewhat privately while waiting to order as he was starting to fuss. An older man who we presumed is the owner came out asking us why we were being so rude by sitting there without ordering. We explained we have one more person coming and would like to wait until he got there and he started getting louder about how rude we were being. Then telling us we could not sit there and needed to leave. We were mortified. So disappointing to see a shop owner be so rude, why anyone would want to give any business to such an unwelcoming shop I’ll never know. Sad.

Local Mocha shares a wall with the trendy Madcap coffee. I went the Pepsi Challenge route and I ordered a Mocha Latte from both. Local Mochas coffee is excellent. Comparatively Madcaps Mocha Latte tasted like a lemon tea. I wasnt sure they served me the right drink, I had it swapped for a new one but it had the same sour, hot water taste. If you want COFFEE go to Local Mocha! Their beans are slow roasted, organic, and provided by the local roaster Grand Rapids Coffee Roasters.

They not only have various kinds of coffee drinks, including soy options, but also serve food including breakfast and lunch sandwiches that are delicious! If you have a sweet tooth, try their homemade caramel or homemade chocolate. Itll leave you wanting more, making sure you make return trips to say hi to the owners and their kids.

I went into Local Mocha with the full intention of buying an ice cream, as I had mistakenly believed that they had some flavors listed outside of their shop. Please note, I 1) had an intention of purchasing an item and 2) came directly from Map Cap next door where they had no visible trashcans (I later found out they have a small trashcan within their bathroom, but a very SMALL one clearly for small wastes) 3) the time that passed from when my group of four left Map Cap to entering Local Mocha was perhaps 45 seconds at the most. Upon entering Local Mocha I was immediately uncomfortable as the atmosphere was simply unpleasant. No customers inside and complete silence. My friend and I both threw away our trash as they have a full size trashcan near their counter. I took a look at the menu indoors because I was curious as to the prices but was unsure after taking a look at the menu inside. When it turned out that I was mistaken about the item that I thought they had, I said I was okay and had plans to leave. At that point, we hadnt wasted more than five minutes of our time inside the store, had spoken three or four lines to the woman working but she took it upon herself to be outraged. Berating us for throwing away our trash in her store after we had clearly been to other places that should have had places for us to throw away waste, saying we should have been aware that Grand Rapids downtown has trashcans outside for purposes such as ours. This was only our second visit to Grand Rapids and, as I said above, perhaps 45 seconds had elapsed since we left Mad Cap, not nearly enough time to wander in search for a trash can. My friend (I was traveling in a group of four) has already left reviews but I felt its necessary for more of it to be made clear. Especially as people who have worked in the restaurant industry ourselves, we have an understanding of how customer interaction should work and Local Mocha was clearly inappropriate, over the line, and honestly Im surprised theyre still open as it was completely empty and Ive seen similar negative reviews on Facebook, Yelp, and Google. On another note, their responses to customers online are atrocious as well. If an establishment does something wrong and the customer feels it to be necessary to write a review, the company should apologize and better themselves for the future rather than threatening customers with surveillance camera footage and continuing their rudeness. My friends and I arent sure as to what it means by superior because they look like you but as far as we can understand thats meant to be some sort of racist jab at the fact that we were all Asian? Local Mocha should really not be in business anymore.

Have never had an experience bad enough to compel me to write a review, but this place really shocked me. Came from Madcap, the clearly superior coffee place next door (where I spent $15), but felt like giving this place a fair shot as well. Walked in and felt an ominous ambience; completely empty except the single woman in the store, strangely quiet. Was not aware that she was there for a moment, when she finally spoke she did not seem glad to see us. We mistakenly asked for something not on the menu then decided we no longer wanted to buy anything since it wasn’t available. Instead of simply explaining that it wasn’t an item, she started harassing us about our behavior and the fact that we threw out some trash from another store in her trash can, which is not what they do in the area (apparently). We did not say much in response, just looked confused and smiled politely, but she continued to ramble. I’m not sure what made her think she had the right to say this, and was extremely rude and off putting. Keep in mind that1. We were a group of relatively young people who had clearly spent the entire day out, visiting many shops2. Madcap, the shop we visited before, had no visible trash cans, and we simply threw our trash there because it was the first one we saw3. She only started to harass us after we decided not to purchase anything4. We are not from the area and were not aware of the areas norms5. There was no indication that the trash can was “customers only”She seems to have an affinity for threatening to post surveillance footage, as shown in the responses to other negative reviews. That would be perfectly fine, as the only party she’ll incriminate is herself. Not surprising the store was empty, especially when Madcap was beyond expectations. Do not waste your time and money on this store.

This review is based on my experience from Oct 2016.I had never been here or knew anything about them before I visited for the first time.Atmosphere:Tight and small space for standing with chairs outside. Inside feels dingy and closed in, a place where you might hope to find a gem of a coffee shop. 1.5/5Staff:I walkin and stand in front of the counter for almost 2 min without anyone greeting or noticing me. I say hello?!? and finally an older man came to the counter. He doesnt say hello or greet me in any way, but looks at me bored. I ask the man what would you recommend? and the man points to the menu (which I had been examining) and said look at the menu. I was shocked at such rudeness so I said it looks like you dont want my business very much and walked out. 0/5After talking to some friends who have had similar experiences and read the scathing replies from the owner, I have no idea how they are still in business with such terrible customer service.

He then shortly cut me off saying I hadnt ordered yet. I then ordered a slice of banana bread and he said that wasnt good enough. So I then asked if there was a public restroom and he said there are no public restrooms downtown. I said thanks and started heading back to my hotel so my son could use the restroom hoping he didnt have an accident when I found open public restrooms two blocks away. (Reply to owner response to my previous review)This is the most ridiculous interaction I’ve ever had with an establishment. How do business owners such as yourself not realize how completely unprofessional it is to insult the products of another business? Perhaps it is out of jealousy due to the obvious difference in success between the two? And I would think it’s common sense that passive aggressively (or just aggressively) ridiculing polite potential customers is unprofessional as well, but common sense is not so common nowadays, huh?Not surprising that you remember our interaction from two days ago. I suspect that this is because we were the only customers you had since then? Would not surprise me. And was it truly such an inconvenience for us to throw away our trash in your trash can? Yes, if I had no intention of purchasing anything, I would not have done so, but I fully had the intention of buying something after I threw away my trash. What do you want, for us to dig our trash out of your trash can?“Treat others how you want to be treated” is perhaps the most hypocritical thing you could have said in this situation. When you were younger, did you want older business owners to aggressively harass you for not buying anything from their business?I hope you realize how absurd you sound. Anyone reading this, I hope this exchange made you realize how absolutely ridiculous this store is, avoid at all costs.

After apologizing a second time I finally shouted that yes, I did know how to read, because I was reading a book when he rudely started shouting at me even after I apologized.I sat in the wrong spot, I completely get that, but I apologized and started leaving as soon as he pointed it out.
