Louella is truly a neighborhood establishment. They have a small and kind staff. After a few visits they will know you like an old friend. It’s a homey and warm environment with an incredible selection of wine, a very good selection of beers and a few fun options of spritz, sangria and sake.Their weekly free tastings are such a great way to learn about new varietals and regions of with wine world.Recently they added boxed cheese and charcuterie plates, which is literally a perfect date night addition!If you live in or are visiting Durham, Louella is a must!

My two best friends, my 89 year old mother, and I were in Durham this past weekend to house and dog sit for one of my friend’s nieces and her partner. One of the ways they showed us their spirit of generosity was to leave their Aunt Tam a gift card to LouElla. What an experience! We tasted a little wine, visited and laughed with the owner, and enjoyed a light snack. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we had white glove service from (forgive me if I have his name wrong), Sergio when he helped us choose our purchases . We had a fabulous time and came home with a variety of wines to try and to gift to others. All the while, we were learning a little from our guide. We cannot wait to come back to Durham, and revisit this sweet little wine shop, its knowledgeable staff, and of course, Aunt Tam’s family! Thanks, Emily and Ashley! My only regret is not coming here sooner. Interesting, varied menu of “by the glass” wines. The selection feels crafted by wine people, for wine people— and yet it’s accessible to the more-casual enthusiast with zero snobbery in sight. I love that the bottle selection is heavy on $20ish picks, thoughtfully curated so that you could pretty much grab any bottle in the store and be confident that a) it’s reasonably priced and b) will be delicious. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and glad to chat, if you want to chat. I love LouElla. It’s the best wine shop in town and quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Durham.

Newly opened wine/beer bar and bottle shop in the quickly developing Geer St. row that includes boxcar, Hutchins garage, choice tattoo etc. (they’ve coined the phrase, “ink and drink” but never the other way round).Daily drink specials in a bright, open space with lots of natural wood. Both wine and beer on tap with plans for small plate offerings to follow.

Recently visited on a lazy weekday afternoon and had a very nice experience. LouElla is a bar and a wine shop with some outdoor seating. Their selection and knowledge of wine (and beer; draft, bottle and can) is top notch. The staff was very friendly and helpful with some great suggestions. Got to meet the owner as well who was also very nice. The shop and bar space is open and relaxed.

I cant speak for the drink-in experience since I only knew of Louella after the pandemic started. I emailed to ask for some recommendations on Riesling and stopped by later to grab a few bottles. Cam was very helpful and I didnt feel overwhelmed/ confused given Im a wine noob. Bought three bottles based on their recommendations, the first one I tried was fantastic. I cant wait to try the other two and definitely will come back!

What a Great place. Very classy. We ordered two bottles of wine one to share and one to take home. They have a great selection and do wine tastings frequently. Highly recommend this place to gather with friends and family.

This place is so fun! Very spacious and classy, lots of options to buy to-go or stay and hang. You can bring your own food in which is a huge plus! The service is fast and the staff are very nice. Plus it’s so beautifully clean and well-kept. An excellent addition to the downtown durham scene!

Great little spot. Stopped in for a bottle of wine to take home but couldn’t resist the charm so my husband and I also had two glasses at the bar. The bar tender and owner(?) made great suggestions. We took a bottle of German Riesling home. Great selection - it was hard to choose! We really enjoyed the laid back environment. Would definitely recommend!

A nice change from the many great options for beer or fancy cocktails. Solid selection of drafts, wine by the glass, sherry, vermouth and Madeira. Warm vibe, and some unusual and tasty looking wine selections at a variety of price points.

Great selection of wines (particularly very fun French and Italian ones for special occasions), friendly and knowledgeable staff, and to top it off a pleasant atmosphere where you can spend hours conversing and enjoying fine wine and snacks. Love coming here.

If you like wine, this is a great spot. Also has interesting beer and cider options. Its a little Spartan but theres a feel theyre still growing into the space.
