Soccer lovers destination. All of the games and fantastic food to go with it. Seats and tvs inside and out with a very steady flow of families, dogs and soccer fans. The food is spot on! Everything from appetizers, salads, burgers and sandwiches. I am so happy chef Matt kept the salmon bacon. Crispy and delicious and works wonderfully on a BLT with the salty, tangy dill mayo. Even my non fish eating child loved it and the Crispy cinnamon dusted sweet potato fries with honey Dijon dipping sauce. Love this place!
Amazing atmosphere in a well curated bottle shop. BSD always has an impressive tap list with local, national, and international options. Zwanze Day went off without a hitch thanks to the staff!
Either location always has the best and freshest selection. Knowledgeable staff enjoy what they do and always have a suggestion on hand for something new. Layla is the real STAR here though!
One of my favorite pre-pandemic hang-outs. Inside is cozy, there are plenty of great beers on tap, and its a killer bottle shop, too! Now that theyve added the Boot Room for tasty eats, you can practically live here. The staff are friendly and helpful and this place added online ordering at the start of the pandemic and took things seriously. They really care about their customers and I will continue to support them for it.
Fantastic beer bar. Hipster quality without the pretentious air. Arcade in the back is cheap and everything works. The selection will satisfy every taste and style. Knowledgeable and friendly staff as well as a great selection of four and six-packs. If your favorite beer isnt in a can or bottle fear not for they will can anything you want so you can take it home and show off your impeccable tastes. Favorite spot it all of Durham.
Good beer selection in a decent environment and location. Dog friendly and family friendly but gets crowded because of limited space and seating. Dog owners feel a bit too comfortable with their dogs in this place so if you don’t like dogs be prepared to be annoyed. Look up menu on your phone because you’ll need a telescope to read the tiny text on their screens behind the bar.
This bottle shop has the friendliest staff. They listen to what you want and make it happen. Their stock of NA beers is amazing and the prices are fantastic!
Very enjoyable spring evening on the outdoor table. The server was very friendly and gave great recommendations for beers.
Fantastic scene. Great selection on tap. Awesome to-go options from local, national, and international breweries. Bar snacks (cheese, crackers, hummus, pretzels, etc...) to nosh on while sipping some tasty beer. Check out the arcade in back. You will definitely find some fun favorites from growing. If youre here during the day, you may catch the brewery at Starpoint working on some great beer. Waft the delicious aromas and bask in awesome company. The bartenders and staff are all amazing.
Great spot! This place is family friendly yet great for young singles as well. Food at the adjecant The Boot Room is excellent and you cant beat the beer. We come often.
Beer Study is a great place to grab a beer. Theyre super friendly, whether youre an expert on all things beer or just browsing for a gift. One of the largest tap lists in the area and a great place to hang out since theres great food across the street and soon to be at Beer Study too!
Tons of choices, great options for shopping online before arrival. Sort of tucked away, but worth the trip for their local and NC brewed selection
Beer Study is awesome!! This was my first time here and I can confidently state that Ill be back here again and again. They have a cool vibe going with great music and awesome beer! The staff is super nice and knowledgeable and will help you out with tastings or a general knowledge dump. They also have a bottle shop where youll find great beers. They allowed you to bring food in from outside which is cool!
Beer on tap. Bottled and canned beer for take out. Craft beer-many varieties. Outdoor seating and T.V. -occasional live entertainment. Masks required. New resteraunt nextdoor. Mostly sandwiches.
I think Beer Study is the place I most miss during the pandemic. Glad they are making it work, and thankful I can still stop by for some cans now and then. Always feels super safe and considerate, and of course friendly.
I wanted to support a local business and get my beer from a local store, instead of going to the grocery store. I learned recently that City of Durham will be shutting down all breweries, etc., and limiting curbside pickup. Let me re-iterate this. I could have gone to the grocery store. I could have gone to the ABC store (which, paradoxically, is deemed essential business). But i chose instead to pay an extra 5 dollars and leave a tip for a local business. I saw an ad that Beer Study is now doing deliveries. Thats awesome! I selected an order, reserved a delivery time. Nowhere on that website does it say i have to be present AND show my ID to the delivery person. I have used other businesses that deliver beer and wine before, in the same state. Not once was I required to be present. Make it clear what delivery means, especially now.
Great prices for good beer! Theres a cool arcade in the back, a nice sized tv to watch games and movies on the front. The scene is very chill with cool artwork along the walls. This evening they a had a DJ that played a pretty dope set. They allow you to bring in food to enjoy with your beer. They also have a great selection of beer to buy and take home if you dont have the time to sit and chill there.
These guys are thinking outside the box. I love Durham, and Im crazy for Beer Study-Durham. We can social distance and socialize! Rent a tent for up to 6 people. You bring the people and food. They will provide the beer and a sanitary environment. Best evening since 3/15/20!! Great way to get out, and be safe! Thank you.
I have been coming to Beer Study consistently for about a year or so for trivia, and when I just want a good brew. The bartenders are always nice and welcoming, and hands down have the best draft beer selection in Durham. I keep telling friends to come here, and will continue to do so myself for a long time!
Excellent selection of the best beer and cider around. Local hangout, great service, and fun outdoor seating!
Excellent beer selection on tap (and retail bottle sales). Comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Very dog friendly!
Awesome place! The beer is amazing! Great selection of bottles to go.
Super solid. Obviously, we love that he allows dogs inside. The game room in the back is great and the its generally good vibes. I appreciate them providing non-alcoholic things and the beer selection (both bottled and draft) is on point.
I live 0.4 mi away and I LOVE Beer Study!! I just moved to Durham last May and this is the perfect location to meet up with new friends or dates.I bring my handsome German Shepard-Chow chow mix, Dean. People always love commenting on his bright blue mat (Im sure the owners know who I am saying that. It is great enrichment for him to meet new dogs & people, and great for me because I dont feel like a bad dog-mom leaving him at home!Any place that has a welcoming atmosphere, great people and dog-friendly deserves 5 stars!
Venue is decent. Seems people love to go here and pay a minimum of $7 for a beer and get spoken condescendingly to by the bartender with a beard that is so long he has to hold it out of your drink while he pours it. I cant complain too much about the beer prices because that seems to be the going trend these days and nobody is willing to refuse to overpay. That dude is probably the least friendly bartender Ive met though. I thought bartenders needed to be nice as a rule?
Super friendly staff that is also very knowledgeable and plugged in, great selection, no pressure sales, and supports local businesses. Would recommend.
Nice varied beer selection. Appeared to be disorganized internally, but will cut them some slack due to the current conditions. Staff not very engaging.
Very service oriented during covid-19. Courteous, follow-up with online ordering issues (product sold out during ordering process) very promptly with other great substitute recommendations.
The beer study is a fantastic place to hang out with friends. They have pinball and air hockey. They have comfortable seating accommodations including, benches, couches and an outdoor area. You can bring your dog. They have a wife variety of beers both on tap and in bottles.
Absolutely love Beer Study. My top beer shop in the area for unique and rare beers, plus they brew their own!
I want to preface this by saying that, Im not a beer enthusiast as much as I am an arcade enthusiast.Ive been here on 2 separate occasions now, both times for play. I found that Beer Study has a selection of Pinball games and so I gave it a shot. My first time there, Ghost Busters pinball had an issue where if you pressed both flipper buttons at the same time, the game shuts off and then reboots. The bartender that day was very helpful and she refunded me my quarters back due to the technical difficulties.A few days ago, on my second visit, I decided to give it another shot. I played 1 game of Guardians of The Galaxy and then hesitantly tried Ghost Busters again. Without realizing it at first before crediting up, while Im the middle of a game, I noticed that the flippers were sagging and thus creating a larger gap for ball losses. Ghost Busters already has an unforgiving gap in between the flippers, as intended. But with both flippers sagging the way they were, it was impossible to land your shots where you need them to go, on top of the larger than intended gap. I brought this up to the next bar tender and expressed my concerns about the game. I was just told theyd make a note of it after determining theres no technicians on site. However, I was not offered my quarters back for the troublesome Ghost Busters experience as I was on my last visit. It was only a dollar loss, but I feel like the technical difficulties are too persistent to feel comfortable returning to play. Ill have the occasional beer, but I dont think coming back to the Beer Study is the place for me. I just wish there was more of an initiative to check in on the games to make sure theyre in working order and contact the proper technicians to fix any issues that might come up.
Best beer selection in Durham. A large ever changing selection on tap and a great selection of beer to go. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
Great spot when theres no COVID-19
This place is fantastic! Baristas really know their beers, and have quite a variety on tap or available. One fun aspect is that the beers on tap change in price/cost as the keg gets closer to empty (which is also displayed on the large TV screens).Fun and open place to hangout with friends. Had no trouble hearing my buddy across the table.
Always a great selection of rotating beers on tap. The arcade is full of classic games that are fun to play. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, and the owner has a pug and thats just makes this place the best
Nice casual place to sample a large variety of craft beers and being pet friendly was an added bonus. Parking is free but slightly limited. I had a dark chocolate Porter that was intense. Lots of great conversations about the beers offered and sampled.
Great service, selection, and atmosphere.
Amazing beer options! Bring your dog on a leash. Charge your phone. Bring your own food. Bring your kids. They have an arcade. They have a bit of everything. Outdoor seating is available, too! Went to meet some friends after a very long meeting. Great place to meet. Good sound system and a brewery, too.
The woman behind the bar was terribly unfriendly, but then maybe shes shy, or was having a bad day?Now that thats been said... Everything else about this place is great. I love all the dogs and that theyre relaxed and sweet. Well definitely bring ours next time. Hell love it!The red-haired gentleman behind the bar was just great - friendly, engaging and super fast.Im not a beer drinker, but they had options for me. The Bone-Dry cider was delicious and they offered a few wines as well.Even the customers were great - super friendly, relaxed and welcoming, as was the overall atmosphere.Well definitely be back. Maybe the next time the woman behind the bar will be having a better day. If not, though, this place is so great, she wont deter us! 😉
Great beer selection and nice staff!
A fun stop to pick up all your local brews or stay and have a pint. Starpoint brewery has fantastic selections and there is a wide variety of other craft beers. Oh, did I mention the full classic arcade in the back? Bring your quarters to play pinball and your favorite classics in the arcade attached to this wonderful establishment.
Cant go wrong. Dogs. Beers. Bring in your food. People watch. Golden Tee. Hmmm... what am I missing?
Cant say enough about this place. They have an excellent, curated selection of packaged beers. There is always something interesting on the rotating taps and there are always good selections from Starpoint. Its a laid back, fun, eclectic atmosphere. Come as you are and leave the attitude at home.
Great draft beer selection that you can check online via the digital pour app, impressive bottle and can options to take home, delicious nearby restaurants if you are hungry. Also dog friendly. The arcade games in back are the cherry on the sundae.
Great tap selection, they also have some of the most fun food events like chili contests or fish fries. Incredible service. Cool atmosphere.
The bartender Adam is a great guy and takes great care of his customers. He is a large part of the reason we enjoy going there.
Good beer, great bartenders, and pinball in the back... Whats not to love? Add in being able to bring the dog and were in love.
HQ of the local Starpoint Brewin and large selection if you are near downtown Durham. Large Events space, and game room space. Expanding currently with a spacious dining area next door and semi acoustic/ performance events space in back. Nanas, Thai cafe, and Wine Cafe, as well as a cool vintage shop all are great neighbors.
Its sad when you have a dishonest bartender stiffing the customers. But I guess when the customers are buzzed, its easier. Lucky for me, I wasnt drinking and called the bearded bartender out. I will never come to this place again.
Awesome beer selection and owner is a disc golfer.
Great place close to home for beer with neighborhood feel. Very laid back. Easy parking. Im not an expert in beer but I enjoyed everything I had (Grimms sour and a blood orange cider). I didnt get to enjoy the arcade but plan on taking my son at some point.
Great prices on bottles to go, good draft selection, amazing pinball machines, comfortable seating, and solid local focused business. Plenty of dogs and small groups frequent this location. They know their beer without obsession or pushing.
Great beer selection. Great video arcade. Fun atmosphere. Parking can be challenging
Fantastic tap list, and you can drink while you shop. They carry a lot of stuff you just cant find elsewhere, even at some of Durhams other top bottle shops. Also a neat arcade in the back, and a comfortable place to hang out with a laptop for a few hours.
Dont count on getting a true beer sample if your melanated. Youll be lucky if you get suds. The bar tenders should work on not making it so obvious.
Great bar with a great tap selection! Bartenders are very friendly.
I love this beer, kid and dog friendly place. Staff is helpful and nice. Great rotating beer taps and Starpoint brewery selections. Nana Taco, the Q Shack, and The Boot are nearby for carry in eating.
Great selection, great prices
This place is really cool! great beer selection. cannot believe it took my 3 years of living in Durham to make it in for a beer
Fantastic local bottle shop. Layla is the best staff member.
Great selection of drafts plus bottles and cans available for purchase. Warm environment in front, arcade games in the back.
The staff were very friendly and knowledge about their products. I enjoyed trying quite a few new beers, many of which I would purchase again. I definitely recommend this establishment.
Great bottle shop! Enjoyed some Our Mutual Friend which was delicious. Nice people, fresh beer!
Bar, arcade, and bottle shop. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, very dog and kid friendly. They always have a great variety of brews on tap and there always seems to be something new Ive never heard of and get to try. :)
Bottle shop + bar + mini arcade. Fun for a group or a quick drink. Great selection of local and international beers. Great prices on the Starpoint brews.
A cool neighborhood place. I do wish the bartenders were a little more helpful and friendly. With such a large menu, its always nice to have a little guidance on what to get. I also wish smoking wasnt allowed on the outdoor patio space. :(
Lots of rotating tap choices: havent shopped for bottles. good indoor space. dog friendly (though i am not a fan of dogs, but i know others are). minimal outdoor seating.
I love Beer Study. Great, friendly, knowledgeable bartenders.A very well curated tap list and bottle selection. Typically about 10 Starpoint beers on tap, brewed in house and an additional 30 beers, all listed on digital screens.Dog and kid friendly space, as well as reasonable closing times makes this a great place to call home. Nice video game/pinball/gathering room in the back. Bring outside food, walk to NanaTaco, Que Shack, Happy China, The Boot, and Thai Cafe. But really, it comes down to the delicious beer and wonderful atmosphere fostered by the amazing staff.
Kid and pet friendly not for me when enjoying good beer
Great selection and friendly staff. I. Like coming here for the atmosphere.
Love this place! Great beer selection and top-of-the-line service. The atmosphere is good for everyone!
Great selection of beer on tap and in bottles/cans. Has a nice arcade area and is dog friendly. Right across the street from Nanataco so its great for a post-taco beer.
Perfect spot for beer drinkers. Only 1 white wine on tap..oh well. Ok for a quick stop after work.
Snazzy little hangout for a brew. The night we attended there was a Wine and Charcuterie tasting offered for $10 and it was WAY worth the price. Kerri is the bomb. 💣💥
One of my favorite places to go for beer. Excellent staff, trivia Tuesdays, small arcade.... Just a good time.
Outstanding draft and bottle selection, knowledgeable staff, perfect for enjoying a pint. During warm weather the garage door doors get rollers up. Bonus points for having Starpoint brewing in the back, plenty of to arcade machines and loads of food options next door/across the street.
The folks are great and really accommodating.
Great hangout spot.Fantastic selection on tap.Inside theres a bottle shop area, an arcade area, and board games.I really like that theyre cool with bringing food over from Q-Shack and Nanataco.
Great staff, laid back atmo, great selection.
I went after work and found it crowded and loud. Not their fault, they have a lot of space, but I might not recommend it for happy hour.Dog friendly indoors and out :)Great selection
Awesome place. They have great beers at decent prices, most pints are $5. Cool place to hang out. And they have a small arcade in the back with some good, oldschool games.
A large, varied tap list, a welcoming environment, arcade games, and racks of bottles to browse and purchase are all great reasons to visit. The draw is not lost on the community, either, as the place became increasingly crowded as the night progressed. Two thumbs up... will return.
My favorite beer spot in the triangle for sure. They always have cool events, good selection, and great beer knowledge.
Best bottle shop close to Downtown Durham after Sams closed in Dec 2018. Great selection, good prices and a cool space. BYO food from close by, dogs allowed and knowledgeable bartenders make this a great spot.
Good little beer store! Good selection. Good prices. Dog friendly.
Poorly laid out interior makes one room very noisy and another feel like an empty storage area
Great place. The best beer in town. Dog friendly. Arcade in the back. It would be 5 stars if they had a kombucha opion.
Good location. Mehh management
Neat place with a good selection!
People friendly. Animal friendly. Toddler friendly... All the friendlies.. . Great beverages. Chilling location for early afternoons. Plus a sweet arcade with top notch pins. And skeeball.
Great place! Especially nice that you can bring in outside food, given the proximity of Q Shack and Nanataco.
They have many different beers on tap but no food. You can go to a restaurant next door and bring it into Beer Study. There is an arcade in the back for kids while parents are studying beer.
Awesome place! The beer is amazing! Great selection of bottles to go.
Go there! Drink good beer! Done!
